Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/9

Good evening ladies!

This morning was FT Bootcamp and tonight was a Bellicon bounce. Total workout time 74 mins / 562 cal.

Judy...I agree with Barre and it helping to strengthen your lower back. I feel my back is really strong due to barre the past few years and have noticed the difference is certain weight moves, especially deadlifts. Great workout combination today. Yes take the rotation 1 week at a time. I am in week 2 and think I will be fine continuing to the end with no boredom. SB will be starting with a new rotation next week. I really like following them and will fit them in with the FT Rotation.

Diane Sue...funny how we do not like a workout one day then pick it up and love it! Glad you liked the ReboundFit workout. I loved the music too! I continue to bounce when she is inbetween songs explaining the moves. Wow you are brave starting with 2lb weights. I was perfectly fine with 1lb. I looked into their streaming site but they are on hold for a bit. I may try it out for a month at a later date when I am done with the Bellicon subscription. I have 4 sites now that I have an annual subscription too and not going to add another.

Valerie...that is really expensive for dumbbells. Have you tried Walmart or Amazon? I bought most of my dumbbells from both of these places at reasonable costs. Unless they have skyrocketed in years. I have had mine for a while. Hoping you can find a good price. My heavy weights I prefer non coated but 5lb and under I like the coated. Not sure why I have this preference.

Caitlin....good that you are staying with weights and I hope the HRT helps control your symptons.

Deb...I can't believe someone took your planter!! That is terrible. I am looking forward to the Live travel workout tomorrow. Been a couple of months since I have done this so it will be fresh. Hoping class with Kylee went well.

My husband has now lost 60lbs. He is looking so slim. I could not be happier for him. He was in disbelief that he needed to lose that much weight and has now promised to lead a healthier lifestyle. He broke his ankle a few years ago, then quite smoking and then changed his job to a more sedentary one. No wonder the weight just crept up. He is pretty much at his goal weight so now it is my job to help him maintain. :)

Have a great night all.

Diane Sue...I just saw that Amy Bento posted a couple more short rebounding workouts. She has a rebounder with the coils. Guess she gave up on the JumpSport. That issue can not be helping their PR at all.

Lori. I saw those workouts too. Well to be honest, after your experience and me seeing that first video I am a bit afraid of the Jump Sport. I guess if you go for the larger one it is okay? I had one in my Amazon Cart for awhile , but took it out. I wish the Bellicon was not so expensive. I don't jump on my Urban rebounder without shoes. I am afraid I might injure a foot on the springs. I noticed Suzanne Bowen without shoes and Amy. Amy doesn't wear shoes in some of her kettlbell workouts either. That your husband has lost all of that weight. Mine lost over 70# and now has added weight lifting with the tread climber and is watching what he eats. I keep lots of chopped up watermelon , grapes and a fruit bowl just for easy grabbing and try to not bake goodies very often, only for family and friend visits. I think that the barre work probably really strengthens the whole posterior chain which helps strengthen the back and hip area.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Band & Body Weight Travel. 59 minutes 322 calories. This one was really tough! It is a lot harder than the Travel Fit DVD.

Carolyn, I found with the old Tower that the holes are so close together ( there are 17 instead of 10 like the new one has)..that if I am off a number or so, it doesn't make that much of a difference. Also, I use your trick with Pledge to make the bar move up and down easier. :).

Diane Sue, a really fun week with the grandkids! I did the same with Slow & Heavy...I purchased the VHS version way back when, hated it, and sold them on Ebay. A few years later when I was really into weight work, I bought the DVD's and loved them. So funny how our likes and dislikes change.

Valerie, I have all metal dumbbells, some are just silver and I have a set that is black. I never noticed a smell of any kind. So far it looks like Walmart might be your best place, unless there is a sale at a Dick's nearby. Is there a Walmart near your new home? How did you get those chairs back? Did you confront the people that took them? I posted on our neighborhood website and someone replied that if I had a picture I should post it, and they would be on the look out for it...:). Not sure If I could accuse someone of stealing it...maybe I would just take it back...LOL. What makes me really mad is now I am afraid to do another one like it, so they can steal that one and have a matching pair?

Lori, that is so great about Bob and his new mindset about a healthy lifestyle. Let me know what you think of the Live Travel workout....it was exhausting for me. I did not do all the "swimmers" or whatever that move is called at the end. I just sat up and stared at the screen...hoping it was time for the cool down...LOL...:)

Have a great day!

Lori and Diane sue congrats to your hubbies. that is an incredible life change!

Deb we came back to our reserved spot around dinner. we were storming around because the chairs weren't there. most campgrounds put a paper reservation sticker on the post at the site. Not always current or very visible so most people who paid for the night leave something bIgger and more obvious. we saw a guy bringing chairs back. Said he thought we "forgot " them. So not as bad a thief as your planter box but we doubt we would have gotten them back if we'd been a little later because he left Shortly after lost the level ers A couple nights before so we were not real pleased!

Hooked up the tv and DVD yesterday and got them working Getting internet hookup this morning
My 12 lbs dumbbells are old metal that makes your hands smell funny I cover the handle with duct tape. Used to have a whole set but DH gave it away to a nephew because he was not thinking.
We are not sure how much weight work we'll be doing here so wWanted minimal. I don't shop at Walmart due to their politics so will try amazon , dicks ,and play it again sports after we drive gnome

Today I did a timesaver premix from Total Body Giant Sets that omits round 5. Total time was 60 minutes and 239 calories burned. Average heart rate was 104 and maximum heart rate was 135.

Valerie, I ordered my dumbbells from Amazon but I have had them for several years. They are metal with black rubber ends. They don't have a smell, but I think the rubber did smell for a couple of weeks after I got them. It was never a problem for me because the smell was faint.

Lori, that is an incredible weight loss for your husband and it sounds like he is on the path of good health. It is sometimes hard for men to make the lifestyle changes necessary for weight loss and maintenance. There are a couple of guys in my WW group that are doing very well.

Diane Sue, I try to keep fruit around for my husband's sweet tooth and to limit the sweets that I make. It's definitely better to wait until there are others here to avoid having leftovers!

Deb, I didn't think of using pledge on the turbo tower. I will try that soon.

Hi to Judy and Caitlin.

Today I put in Kelly's Body Design thinking I would stop when I had had enough and ended up doing the entire dvd, 92 minutes, 543 calories, heart rate 119 average 170 max. Plateau Buster is out in my mail box. I just got the Amazon message. I will do that one Friday. I used 3's for the weighted kickboxing, 5's for the light weight cardio sculpting,, lower body strength 15's and 20's, 5# ankle weights for the chair work , upper body strength 15,20,and 30#.

Deb, I need to try the pledge on my Fit Tower. The bar does not always move easily. It will stick and Cathe already has her in place. So, I guess it just goes with the new one as well as the original one.

Valerie, glad that you got your chairs back. I hope that you find what you want for dumbbells. My Bowflex weights have plastic handles. That is why I mentioned one of those sets. I believe they make sets that don't go that high in weight. Maybe up to 15 or 20 lb. They may be rather costly though. There are other brands than Bowflex.

Carolyn, sometimes I do end up with left overs and I run it to the garage and stick it in the freezer. Sort of out of sight out of mind.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was a SB Total Body workout followed up with her HipHop bounce. Tonight was Cathe's Live Travel workout. Total workout time was 90 mins / 538 cal.

Yes I m very proud of Bob. He really has worked so hard and feels great.

Diane Sue...I can understand your hesitation with the jumpsport. I would feel the same. But I will have to say they really stood by their product and made it right for me. I have had no issues since the new matt and I am in love with it again. Also, I have not read anyone still having this issue. Perhaps they worked it out. That is why I was very surprised to see Amy's coming off. In her Class workout she is using a jumpsport. Don't you love when you finish a workout and only started it with the intent to do a shprten version. Awesome workout!

Carolyn...yes Bob did have a hard time at first. He tried so many times but was not able to stick with it. Then one day he just had enough and made up his mind.

Deb...funny doing the travel workout I did not even do the supermans at all. I felt I was worked enough and thought of you staring at he screen with the swimmers!! That was funny by the way. I do like supermans alot but just was not feeling it with this workout. Thinking it was overkill a bit. I agree it is a lot harder than Travel Fit. Brilliant to use pledge. The other day for some reason my bar stuck a bit and not sure what I did but ended up with a blood blister on the inside of both thumbs. They really hurt too when it happened, pinched me hard on both hands.

Valerie...wish you luck finding weights. Amazon is a good choice. Wow! Glad you got your chairs back!!!

Have a great night all!

Lori, you had great workouts today as well. Nice calorie burn. I do wonder why Amy is using that rebounder. The other woman is not using one that is coming apart. Maybe they fixed the ones that they still had in stock so the problem is not there with all of that model. I would be afraid to purchase one from somewhere like Amazon for fear that I would end up with the ones that have a problem.

I did high reps upper body and core with only the five pounders so not really adequate but made do with what I have. I did more reps on several but still just "ok" May end up ordering from amazonbut would not want them shipped here so will wait til we are back in wa. We got some furniture and our internet hookup today and got started marking out the location for our snow fence. Learning about them to see if we can keep our driveway from drifting shut Very strong winds here and we get a drift that builds up even if nom serious snow anywhere else

Good morning,

I took a rest day yesterday.

Valerie, that is horrible that people that are camping etc would steal from each other....there is no one you can trust today. Would love to see some pictures of the new house.

Carolyn, any reason why you did a premix that eliminates round 5? It still seemed like your premix was extra long. I only know that because I would stay away from premixes that are an hour! :) LOL.

Diane Sue, wow...the whole DVD? that was some workout! I had the same problem with the bar sticking and Cathe already starting the exercise. I now keep a rag and Pledge right with my weights...

Lori, that is so awesome about Bob starting a healthier lifestyle. I wish I could get John to do the same. I know he would feel so much better. He is tired all the time. Cannot take credit for the Pledge idea...I believe it was Carolyn that first mentioned it.

Not sure what is up for today...I did not sleep well. Kylee is having some problems, does not want to stay upstairs in her crate, she won't settle down, whines, and paws at the crate for no reason. Needless to say, I am waking up several times to tell her to settle down...

Take care,

Valerie any weights is still getting something in. The snow fence sounds like a good idea. I remember them in high driftvareas in Nebraska.

Deb, i was thinking even some wax paper sheets might help with the Fitbtower. I wndered if maybevat times the baris sliding up at a slight angle since it does not stick every time. I am sorry you are notbgetting enough sleep. I am wearinf down from all the sctivity this week. I get home late and it takes a couple of hours to get things finished up and to bed. I never go right to sleep lately, wake up after about 90 monutes. I lose on average at least an hour if not more sleep. My husbands alarm wentboff before mine this morning so i was up earlier than i wanted. Grandson will be here soon. I am tired.

This mornings workout was Ripped With Hiit Low Impact Hiit both workouts extreme mix, 51 minutes, 335 calories, heart rate 136 avg. / 173 max. I also did Fit Tower bonus abs 12 minutes, 38 calories. Total time 63 minutes, 373 calories, 4,646 steps, i need to take my grandson and get lunch and gas so i can get back and thow some chili in the crockpot for this evening.

Today I did FT Legs, Glutes and Core. I like this one better each time that I do it. I modified the flutter kicks a bit by not trying to hold the barre. It was better for me that way.

Deb, I did a timesaver premix because I needed to be finished by a certain time. The premix was about 44 minutes. My weight workouts always take longer than the actual time because I stop to record weights used and to make equipment adjustments. I would not choose a premix that was an hour long either!!

Diane Sue, you really are busy this week. It's good that you can still fit in your workouts.

Hello to everyone.

Deb did john ever get into using the exercise bike? Not thinking this is anything you can influence much except by setting s good example. Hope kylee settles down. You need your rest.
We have been vandalized and ripped off several times. Somebody sawed thru the gasoline of my Subaru when it was new trying to steal gas. Parked at a trailhead. Most people are decent but there is that nagging small per cent who cause a lot of grief. I've tried to post pics but they are too large and won't "go"

We did a hike this morning uphill to 8500 feet. About 1300 feet gain which is not bad for a hike but it was over 90 degrees.
5 miles. It was extremely hot and buggy but flowers were lovely and scenery great. No one else on the trail! So much better than Washington! Forecast is to stay hot so we might head back tomorrow. we got all done that we planned and will come back in a month or six weeks.
Hard to imagine snow when. 90 degrees. A spot on our driveway drifts in and blocks it. Don't know if a fence will help but we will try but too hot to do that kind of work now.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, will get back to it today.

Diane Sue, the wax paper might work too. I think it also could be the humidity...and agree, like you said, the bar is sometimes not perfectly aligned and sticks because of that. Sorry about your loss of sleep too. I bought the tea that you have, but only tried it once, and still had a bad night. I don't think that was a good enough test....will try it again.

Carolyn, that makes sense, did not think about recording weights etc. I used to do that faithfully, but have not in a while. I just kind of mentally keep track of what I use and try to gauge it against Cathe's weight.

Valerie, no, as I expected, the stationary bike was used for a while, not any longer. It sounds like you will really enjoy the area that you have the new house in for hiking etc.

Anyone have any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb that is too bad he didn't like the bike. I like switching between activities to keep it from being tedious but with the dvds and weights you have there's no reason for him not to use them too. My DH uses cathe spin and sts but doesn't care about metabolic workouts. Hard to motivate someone else! I think a lot of men are afraid of "looking silly or ridiculous or don't want to face how out of shape they are. . There is a break in factor on most activities
though. Have you used your road bikes?
We are heading home today going to be too hot

The only big problem we have is all the hard surfaces have created an echo effect . We need to get some area rugs we think the sofa will help too but it is a significant problem especially with the tv. Ideas anyone?

Today I did Kelly Coffey's Plateau Buster both workouts combined mix, 49 minutes, 300 calories, heart rate 120 average/ 150 max. I wanted to check out what the bonus buster was on the premixes so did it too, 22 minutes(this includes the warm up again and a nice stretch) 102 calories, 108/150 heart rate. I really like this and wrote down the premixes as she did not have them listed on her website for this one. I could have done the workouts with the bonus buster in them but would have had to do one then do the other, I think. Total time 71 minutes, 402 calories, 4161 steps.

Carolyn, I did the same thing with the flutter kicks and took my hands off the bar. It was really uncomfortable with my arms in that position while doing that portion of the core work.

Deb, I kept reading people saying that collagen helped them sleep. I switched it to evenings since I felt that is when the body is doing most of it's repair. Oddly, I have noticed more REM sleep and deep sleep and a slightly lower resting heart rate when I look at my data. I think this week has me so keyed up and I also am contemplating taking a job that was offered to me at our churches school doing the lunches and cafeteria. Mainly just keeping tract of lunch orders and handing them out and sort of a concession for beverages and chips etc.. It would only be 2 and a half hours. I just need to make up my mind. School starts next month. This is all keeping me from falling asleep and then when I do, I wake back up and the same thoughts pop right back up. That tea really does help. I generally steep 2 tea bags in half a cup of water for awhile. I drink it 30 minutes before bed. The whole week has been less and less sleep and I got up at 5 this morning when my husbands alarm went off.

Valerie, I must have missed something and need to go back and read. Why does the sofa affect the tv? It has been getting up to around a hundred here. Way too hot for outside activities. I have been coming home at 9:30 and running out front with buckets of water to put on my hibiscus which is dropping it's flowers and my camelia. I just need to go buy a hose. I have 100 foot hoses but they are too long to store on the side of the house that faces the street and I don't need that much hose. I couldn't imagine hiking and biking in the high heat.

I don't know what it is with my older Windows 7 computer. I updated yesterday and now when I try to get on Cathe's forums from IE it wont work. I finally had to switch to Chrome to get it to work. It would pull up workout manager but not the forums.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I took Chris for his colonoscopy. He ended up having 2 polyps removed. This was the first time he had polyps. He has to start getting a colonoscopy every 3 years. The sedation they gave him this time was so strong that he was out of it and slept almost all day. I'm glad I convinced him to take today off work. He is still a little groggy.

My back is feeling much better. Yesterday afternoon I did an ICE Rock'm Sock'm premix with Icy Core 1. I think I will do an ICE/Fit Tower combo workout this afternoon.

Deb-I don't think we have any special plans this weekend. I should get caught up on laundry and housecleaning. We do have to go to a visitation on Sunday afternoon. A family friend of Chris's lost her daughter to breast cancer :(

Diane Sue-Great job with Plateau Buster. I don't think I've done the bonus buster on that one. Awesome that your husband lost 70 lbs!

Valerie-Great hike! It sounds like you are going to be very happy with your new home and location.

Carolyn-My workouts always take longer too. I can very rarely make it through a Cathe workout without having to pause to change a weight or record weights.

Lori-That is so awesome that Bob has lost 60 lbs! Congratulations to him! Yes, I will be doing more barre work and trying not to injure my low back again.

Caitlin-I think some women do have a harder time keeping weight on after menopause. While I am happy with my weight, I would like to put on a little more muscle and am finding it almost impossible. Maybe dropping cardio down to a minimum and keeping up the weight work is the best thing. I'm not ready to give up my spinning, but I have cut back.

Judy
