Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/29

We have had internet outages all day yesterday. It will be a busy day today and lots of running. Helping daughter move some things later we have doors to stain in our church gym/school and husband is doing repairs for them before school starts. This is volunteer, and on my husbands off time. One car leaves me trying to fit in getting to the bank and store. We bought the alternator and belt at Auto Zone which was lower cost than the auto shop. They will install it. They arent open till Monday to take it over there. I swear parts for the Range Rover are double what American parts cost!
Internet is finally up this morning. Itvwent out when I was trying to do financial stuff and look for the alternator. I will try to check back later.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Skipping agility class today too, for a couple reasons; my hip hurt too much after Wednesday night's class, and my cousin is returning today from a 500 mile bike ride from NYC to Buffalo this week. This was sponsored by our local cancer research hospital and she dedicate the ride to my friend that passed away. I want to be at the finish line when she arrives. For all that remember "Josie" this is similar to the ride she used to do from San Francisco to Los Angeles that she did for Aids.

Judy, nice combination of workouts! I didn't realize Cathe had a Live workout that used the high step. Not something I can do now with my hip, but will keep it in mind for the future. Is Core Max a separate DVD/ I did get a response from MFP tech support. They said that they are aware of the issue and are working on it....Sounds like a canned answer to anything they get.

Lori, (Hugs)...I am so sorry about Madeline. I see you are keeping Cathe Live?

Diane Sue, sorry to hear you are having problems with the
Range Rover again. :(. Although I mentioned Bursitis to the nurse and the DR, he kind of ignored it. I don't think they like patients that come in with their own diagnosis. I am hoping the physical therapist will be more open minded.

Carolyn, good workouts! We leave on Thursday 8/9, return on Tuesday 8/14. Lots of family stuff planned...also staying at a resort in Bellingham that looks really nice.

Valerie, I remember when restaurants had those "smoking sections" which were a joke. That didn;t last long, I was so glad when they went to all "No Smoking".

Have a great weekend!

Deb-That's awesome that your cousin is doing that ride and dedicating it to your friend. I would want to be at the finish line too. Core Max is a separate DVD with 3 - 20 minute segments and 3 premixes. It's part of the HardCore series from 2005.

Deb, sorry you are still hurting. I remember Josie and her 100 mile rides for AIDS. I don't think calling it bursitis is overly presumptuous... you have to call the discomfort something.

there was an awkward long transition period when smoking got gradually zoned out of public places. different states and companies had different attitudes depending on who smoked. I traveled a lot during that time, and it was inconsistent and uneven in how laws were applied. you used to need to "demand" a non smoking motel room, and then check the room air to make sure it smelled OK. slowly it shifted to where I don't think anyone allows smoking in any hotel rooms or bars, restaurants at all. restaurants with "smoking" and " no smoking" sections were such a joke. as much as I dislike smoking and want it discouraged, it would be a big mistake to make it illegal. I have no problem with taxing smokers and making them struggle to find places to indulge. maybe those butts out the window on the highway ... smokers revenge? since it became illegal to use phones while driving, I've looked at other drivers more and I still see plenty of cell phone use and also a lot of smoking. I know one person now who smokes. only one. he is older and probably will never quit.
have not done a workout. just garden work yesterday. need to get one done today.

This morning I did Pyramid Lower Body, the up-only premix. That was 45 minutes and 147 calories burned. My average heart rate was 104 and maximum heart rate was 155. I went to the farmers market to get some farm fresh vegetables. I was hoping to find local figs, but I was unsuccessful. We had a fig tree in our yard when I was growing up and I love them. I want to make fig preserves if I can find enough.

Deb, that’s wonderful that your cousin is doing the bike ride. I would want to meet her at the finish line too.

Hello to everyone and have a great day

Today I did Cathe Live Warrior Boot camp, this was listed under low impact, but is definitely not low impact, there are jacks, jump turns, etc. , Cathe shows a lower impact version in a couple of spots. Workout was 49 minutes, 2,182 steps, heart rate average 111, max 143, met 5.8, 318 calories.

Deb, that is great that you will be there for the ride in New York. I remember Josie's rides and pictures. I saw the high step live workout, but I don't think that my knee is read for that. I stopped for a moment and almost didn't do the Warrior Boot camp this morning when I saw that they were using the step with 3 risers and near the start she picked up 15# for some up on the step leg lifts. I wasn't sure my knee would tolerate it. I went back and looked and they have this under low impact so I went back and did it anyway. I just modified a bit. As stated above, it is not really low impact. I checked for Kelly's new Tabata she filmed, but didn't see it up yet.
I don't think most doctors are real happy with patients that research a lot. It seems I can see the look cross their face like, "great, another one that thinks they know things". Also I know my daughter has said she wished her patients didn't go to the internet to try to figure out what is wrong. She has had some that tried to use essential oils to heal what is a skin cancer and then she had to cut it out and tell them it may have been too late because they didn't listen. Still, I like to know what they are talking about when I get there. I think some places are more accurate places to look than others. If there is a pill or device or something being sold at the bottom of the page, I instantly mark them as more into what they are saying just to make money.
It seems they could have at least told you if they thought there was a possibility that it was bursitis. Maybe the physical therapist can address that a bit?

Judy, I used to do all three core max ab workout at one time :) For some reason, I have no desire to do that anymore .

Valerie, I remember getting the non smoking area of a hotel and someone would have guests in their rooms next to us smoking anyway. We had friends that used to take an ionic breeze to their hotel rooms to help clear the air. I think if we worked on good health choices insurance would not have to be so high. Everything seems to have some sort of domino effect. People will pay the high price for the cigarettes and tax before they will put good food on the table for their kids. Or use beg for funds for family stuff and buy their cigarettes. It is ridiculous. Yes, I would like to see them taxed right out of business. I see people all of the time with their cell phones still using them when driving. I have seen them with a phone to their ear and a cigarette in the other hand driving.

Carolyn, I have not done the Pyramid workouts in a long time. I love figs too. My parents had a fig tree at one of their houses. I use them in some of the paleo recipes that I make as a sweetener. Most of the time I get Turkish figs from Sprouts, I don't like them as well as regular ones though. I think it is the texture.

Madeline passed today. I have been preparing myself for this for such a long time, but that makes no difference. Hurts just as much. Thank you all so much for your kind words the past 3 years. Not sure when the arrangements will be. Thinking mid week.

I'm very sorry for your loss Lori. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers (Hugs)

Lori, I am sorry, I know how much it must hurt. Sending prayers your way and for her family.
