Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/17

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I had a nice lunch with my friend from work.

Judy, it's the same here...humid, hot and pollen everywhere. I don't have allergies, and I find myself sneezing every day. I bet you will be doing 5k runs way before the actual race, since you have run in the past and have been doing so much spinning.

Valerie, great that you can save some time and $$ by being married to a doctor! I forget about that sometimes...:). I hope it feels better quickly using the brace. I am like you...I love any squash, and sweet potatoes without anything on them, also corn on the cob...no butter or salt for me. I really do not like Starbucks coffee, but I know if it was all I had, or I drank it for a few days, I would get used to it and like it. I like coffee on the stronger side.

Lynda, I remember you breaking your elbow! Was it really 8 years ago? wow....I sure hope the tech guy can figure out your streaming problem. Like Lori said, it would be a shame to have to give up the Live workouts. Speaking of that, I just got a new tubing with handles etc....trying to find a favorite Live where Cathe uses them so I can try them out. I sold my P-57 too.

Lori, Happy Anniversary! How many years? Thanks so much for offering the DVD's from the Tower package! I will take them if you are really sure....you could sell them on Ebay and get your money+ back! Or buy just the Tower?

Diane Sue, that sounds like a good dog food....I signed up for emails from that guy Abel James, some interesting info and recipes etc. Thanks for the info.

Josie, hope your Mom is doing well...

Caitlin, ready for the move?

What is everyone doing this weekend?

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did the first day of the C25K program. It was 30 minutes total, 90 seconds walking/60 seconds running. I did it early, but it was still so hot. I've never had any problem with heat, and was always able to train in high temps, but I'm being more careful now that I am older. With the walking breaks it was fine, but I would not have wanted to have done much more than 30 minutes. I do think I will be able to get up to the 5k distance without much difficulty, especially doing this way.

Lori-Happy Anniversary! I haven't done SB Strong Back, but I put it in my favorites and will try it soon.

Deb-We'll be travelling this weekend and will be back Sunday evening. I'm going to use the weekend as rest from training so I don't have any workouts planned.

Hi to Valerie, Lynda, Diane Sue & Caitlin!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Judy

Hi Ladies,

I ran on Tuesday and Karina came over, no workout on Wednesday and I did bodypump on Thursday morning and Karina came over. I was supposed to run this morning, but my lower back on the right side has been bothering me. I think that is a combination of stress and driving back and forward to visit my DM. It is 112 miles round trip. I just took some Advil and applied heat and will be stretching later.

My DM will be needing dialysis but first they have to get approval from her cardiologist. We will know today when she visits him. My poor dad looks so tired and worried. My troublesome brother is still an idiot and thinks he knows it all :(.

Valerie, that fall sounds painful. I've been there.

Judy, hope your allergies go ways soon.

Diane Sue, my DH also lost 20 pounds by eating healthy and he has been up for trying new things. That makes it easy for me while planning meals.

Hi to Lori and Garance!

Josie

I am very busy packing, and I called my lovely daughter and I left her a message to get her brother to help. I have no time to work out, though. Thank God,I bought that portable light air conditioner.

Today was legs. I did Ice Chiseled Lower Body again but as is no premixes, 49 minutes, 272 calories and using heavier weights. I then did Great Glutes premix standing only, compound, firewalker, and chair segments. I went a little heavier and picked up a heavier weight for the calf raises. This was 46 minutes and calories burned 178. Total time was 95 minutes.
I have a lot to get done today for the trip. I got up at 5:30 this morning so got an early start.
I will come back and read posts. I need to get out for a couple of errands.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE Bootcamp with MM biceps (approx. 60 min.). Good burn on the bis.

It's really fine for me to be doing the ICE workouts with the premixes. I barely used them when I was doing live workouts so they feel pretty fresh to me, especially the premixes.

Happy Anniversary, Lori! Good food is a great way to celebrate. Any favorite cocktail? Josie and I like our Manhattans, although sometimes during the summer I shift to a vodka gimlet icy cold.

Ahh, Valerie, tennis elbow. I have definitely heard of that.

Deb, I am guesstimating, but yes, I think it was 8 years ago. I think our check-in is 10 or 11 years old now. Pretty amazing!

Judy, sorry to hear about your allergies. This has been an awful season for those who suffer from them.

Caitlin, good luck on your move!

Josie, yes, all that driving would definitely take its toll. Kim has back issues when he has that long drive, and I do mean Loooooog, drive to R.I. for his chickens.

I think I may go see the new Ghostbusters film this weekend. Other than that, enjoy the visit of my younger son.

I'm a margarita fan, on the rocks. don't care for the blender ones.
Elbow feels OK today, but raining this morning so no ride. wearing the brace most of the time just to remind me to be careful. never did get a bruise anywhere. hiking poles really activate that outer elbow area too so no hiking for another day or two. same with weights. doing core 1 last night, I got to the plank at the end and felt discomfort when I put my hand flat. making a fist, I was able to finish it without a problem. Lynda, you must have had a long healing period with your elbow. how did you manage? was it your dominant arm?

I spent a lot of my adult life driving, being an outside sales/technical person. my lower back and hip used to get sore. in my opinion, car seats drop your behind into a depression, almost like an Adirondack chair. if the seat bottom doesn't raise up to more level, I sit on something about the size of a telephone book. something less hard and square worked better. just a thought.
ETA I think if you get fatigued / sore driving, look carefully at the seat position and make it similar to the seat position you find comfortable. I do a lot of adjustments and for me, a more square, upright position is best.

Deb, I like Able James. He has a really healthy plan and the recipes are good. There is a lot of good information there as well.

Lori, I hope your birthday was a fun one.

Judy, I would not want to run in the heat. I turn the air up at night for the upstairs unit since no one is up there. It is set to cut on about an hour before I generally workout. I got up early this morning and it was 84 up there. I waited awhile to go workout. I guess early is better outside though because you don't have so much sun overhead and sometimes there is a bit of a breeze.

Josie, those long drives can wear on you. I used to have to do that to come to Oklahoma City for appointments and family and friends. I am glad that right now I am close. Right now I share some of the meals with my husband other than adding more spices to mine sometimes.

Caitlin, my son got a portable air conditioner for his garage and it is really nice. I do not enjoy packing at all and we have way too much stuff even after getting rid of a lot.

Lynda, I really enjoy using the premixes on the Ice workouts. I was hoping for a bit of soreness from the weight increase on biceps yesterday and the addition to triceps but it did not happen. I would like to see the Ghostbusters movie. I think my husband has a Star Trek or something that he is wanting to see.

Valerie, I always feel like I am tucked low in the seat of cars and the upper part of the seat pushes my upper body forward and my head forward. I am always tilting the seat for some relief.

Good evening ladies,

I did not work this morning. Too many cocktails last night! :). I did workout tonight though. Did the two targets SB had scheduled for today. A pretzel target then a bridge target. I then followed up with her Lower Body Sculpting Circuit. Great workouts! The ankle weights adds so much intensity. Addicted to the burn I get!

Margarita girl here on the rocks with extra salt! Or red wine, preferably a cab. I do like a hot and spicey bloody mary from time to time too. I usually limit my alcohol when at a restaurant due to all the sugar. When I serve margaritas at home it is always a sugar free one. Even my guest will get one. Everyone loves them. I use the Jose Cuervo lite mix that is sugar free and calorie free, add tequila then add Vitamin Water Zero usually the Acai flavor or Sobe Blood Orange Mango depending on my mood. This way the only calories are in the tequila.

Caitlin...good luck on the move! We have a portable A/C in our bedroom and love it!

Josie...those long drives will certainly strain your back muscles. Advil and stretching sounds really good to do. Good you are keeping up with your workouts. Helps aleviate the stress. Your brother sounds like a jerk if you do not mind me saying so.

Deb... Meant to ask how you liked the Compound Giant Sets. Going to try and fit this one in over the weekend. Want to do her most recent leg one too. This one looks really good. We have been married 9 years. Went by so quickly. My pleasure to give you the DVD's. You could not buy the tower alone so I had no choice to get them. I know I could sell them but so are many others. I am anticipating an influx of these on Amazon / EBay. After all the fees sometimes it just is not worth it to me. Plus it gives me pleasure to give them to you! :)

Lynda...I also feel I have completely neglected the ICE dvds. When I recently did one of the blizzard blast I even told myself I really should do these more. Let us know your thoughts on the Ghostbuster movie.

Valerie...oh the benefits of being married to a doctor! Glad elbow is ok. you would think you would have ended up with a nasty bruise. Yet nothing! I do not bruise easy but when I do they stay forever.

Judy...I think you would enjoy the Strong Back workout. Let me know either way. I hate working out outside in the heat. I like my nice cool basement. Heat drains me. When I visit Madeline in Charlotte I always make sure I get my workout in first thing otherwise it does not happen.

Diane Sue..must be hard but yet enjoyable to try and get ready with your 5year old grandson there! When do you leave? What do you do for workouts when you travel? You do not sound like someone that would not workout while they vacation. My friends crack up when I tell them I usually workout everyday when we go to Mexico. I can always find something to do. Kickboxing workouts are great travel workouts.

Have a great night all!

Lorie, it sounds like you had a fine time on your birthday :) I am not sure if I will workout or not. I have taken workouts like Travel Fit or the Piyo but I think there is going to be plenty of walking. My son rented a boat and got a tube to go tubing but you won't find me out there in the water. Maybe in the hot tub ;) Also there will be games and there is a ping pong table. We leave tomorrow and will be back on Monday afternoon so I would be missing Monday morning's workout really. I will workout tomorrow before we leave and Sunday is generally my day off anyway. I will probably need some stretching or movement though just because of sitting in the car for over 4 hours. I have Ripped with Hiit Low Impact downloaded to my tablet just in case.

Diane sue have a good trip. a day off doing something different, or nothing at all, is a good thing. relax and enjoy.

Lori, so funny, I use a Master Mix margarita blend ...zero calories. some artificial sweetener in there but that's the only place I get any so I don't worry about it. it makes it a fairly low cal drink and very tasty. I want to thank you for the cetaphil shampoo idea. I had my hair colored Tuesday and no problems. I am washing my hair on the shower floor...oh, it must look ridiculous!... but the itching is way WAY less. I may never be sure what was causing this but the shampoo is pleasant. my head doesn't itch, so find it hard to believe my hair color doesn't bother my head but bothers my back. shampoo is looking more like the culprit but why didn't my head itch? I may never know for sure. I took pics of the ingredients in both the temp hair color and the permanent color for future reference.

Josie sorry to hear about dialysis. Is this a temporary thing to stabilize her and get her back to baseline? Hope it is because long term dialysis is not a convenient thing at all. but sometimes the only choice. people don't understand about T2 diabetes sometimes and think the long term effects won't happen to them. maybe your brother was in that group and didn't take it seriously because it didn't look like anything was going wrong, until it did. the side effects can build up slowly and suddenly blindside someone.

I did 20 on the treadmill and 20 on the elliptical. the elliptical was 200 calories according to the readout. I also feel I neglected the ICE workouts because I didn't like the music. I've found I like them just fine with voice only. a huge number of choices in there, never have to do the same mix twice if you don't want to.

Judy I forgot to look up that allergy med! will try to remember tomorrow.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Cardio Circuit Mash Up...45 minutes, 284 calories. I liked this one, except that every cardio part had to be modified. Most were easily modified, but there was one that I could not do, so just did low impact jacks. For me, it would be a 4 star rating because of the modifying needed.

Judy, I give you a lot of credit for running in this heat, even with walking breaks! Safe travels.

Josie, hope your back is better soon. It does sound like it could be from stress and the car rides. Glad your Mom is doing better.

Caitlin, happy moving! Hope you get some help.

Lynda, wow, 10-11 years? I didn't realize it was that long. Iced tea is my favorite summer drink.

Valerie, good that you are being very careful with your elbow. I think my car has the ability to raise the seat...I may try that to see if it is more comfortable. Good that you are having less itching, and that it was probably the shampoo..

Diane Sue, great workouts! Did you purchase the 30 day program that Abel James has? Have fun camping! When do you leave? oh..I see you are leaving today...I think you can take a break from regular workouts, it sounds like you will be doing a lot of outside fun stuff instead.

Lori, good recipe for margaritas! Thanks again for the DVD's...I will definitely pay for the shipping...maybe starting at that really beginner level will help me like barre more. ..I really think it is good for lower body, and want to do those, but jumping into the Cathe ones, or SB's have a huge dread factor for me because I find I cannot do the leg exercises. Compound Giant Sets was great! Another 5 star rating. :). I want to do the one from June 30th....Total Body Giant Sets....that one looks good too.

Agility class this morning...not sure what else...

Take care,

Deb, a lot depends on what "trim" package you got. we didn't get a fancy one on the Outback. the drivers seat is a lot more flexible than the front passenger seat. On our truck, both seats are very flexible. I sit higher, more level, it's comfortable. I sit very low in the Outback and when I drive it, I need to spend 10 minutes adjusting things up and forward and then fixing the mirrors. it's easy to get the seat too far forward and then the seat belt is on my neck. DH drives it most of the time, and he gets annoyed that he has to move everything back again. in the passenger seat, I'm so low I can't even see the top of the hood. He has a longer torso and short legs. hard to get the seat to fit us both without lots of tweaking.
I really don't like barre work. I don't hate it quite as much as step, but it's the last thing I would stick in the player.

Judy I use the generic form of Claritin. Rite aid brand of Loratadine, 24 hr allergy relief, non drowsy antihistamine. I'm sure most pharmacies have their own "house brand". it's not expensive and works well for me. I get sleepy with Benadry so don't like to use it. I've never needed to use it for long.

we are lucky for a few more days, it's been cool and pleasant. will heat up here next week. I really appreciate our basement when it's hot. I can still work out comfortably.

Today was Amy Bento Ross Kickbox Surge, 73 minutes, 493 calories. I then abs from 2 other Amy workouts, Hi/Lo Knockout, 10 minutes, 35 calories, and Kettlebell Dynamics abs and stretch 13 minutes, 47 calories. Kickbox surge used an 8# med ball throughout, I forgot how hard those roll back and stand moves are with the med ball. Hi/Lo Knockout used 8's I used 10's, and Kettlebell Dynamics was a 20# kettlebell. Total time was 96 minutes and calories burned 587. I need to go get ready and load the car. Have a nice weekend. I may pop in once in awhile.
I think I got in a good workout today and had fun doing it. I had a bit more time since we are waiting till my grandson 18 gets off of work so he can go with us this afternoon. We hated seeing him take that 4 hour trip by himself.

Valerie, I think I worked hard enough today to relax :)

Debbie, I have not joined Abel James group but have thought about it. He sometimes has special deals and freebies when you join the tribe.
