Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/1

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I may do something upper body today.

Judy, great workouts! The bathroom looks really nice. Yes, I am pretty sure it is bursitis. I looked up the symptoms again and it fits perfectly. I should be resting and icing, and stretching. The worst is going up or down stairs, and they say not to do anything like stair climber, ( of course not!) and anything on an incline. Also mentions losing weight, which I believe is why it came back.

Valerie, it sounds like maybe the "explosions" are finished for your neighborhood. Yes, we are very lucky with these 2 dogs. I have had dogs in the past that were terrified of fireworks, pacing, panting whining the whole time. It was awful for them. There is really not much you can do either. I guess the pharmacies will take insurance for the vaccine? I saw that Walgreen's here is advertising that they have the "new shingles vaccine".

Carolyn, great workout, I may do that one today. Yes, stretching helps for a little while afterwards. All it takes to hurt is going up stairs. Did you sign up for the KCM streaming?

Diane Sue, poor Gertie! I think our Medicare part D or whichever it is may cover the shot, but I would have to call and ask.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Good morning all,

Having a nice time. July 4th was low key. We had a BBQ here at Madelines and a few family and friends came over. She pretty much stays in bed most of the day unless she has an event like this. It takes so much out of her to get ready and absolutely needs a wheelchair. All things considered she looks good but noticably a little more confused. We were all talking how in the past 3 years there were so many times where she bounced back when we thought this was it. We are all so happy we have her once again for the annual 4th of July party and we celebrated! We all know for sure this will be her last and I am glad I was able to get here.

Wednesday was a travel day so no workout. Yesterday I walked 2 miles in the morning then did a 30 min metabolic workout with Jen’s trainer. This morning I am walking again then we are going back to the trainer for a weight workout. I enjoyed working out with a trainer and I liked the curcuits she put us through, but, will have to say...my home workouts with Cathe push me more! :)

Judy...the bathroom looks great! Nice workouts. Are you enjoying Kelly’s site? She has all her raw workouts and also all her dvds up correct? Thought I read this when she first started.

Deb...I can’t blame you for cancelling your trip. GiGi is not bothered by fireworks at all either. We have very happy about this. Have heard some sad stories where dogs were lost due to them running off in panic.

Diane Sue...once you get the ease of streaming you are in trouble!!!! Lol!! Glad everything is working for you. :) Looks like you are enjoying Kelly’s site. Thanks for the info on the prep. Will show Bob when I get home tomorrow.

Valerie...good that your husband is screened regularly. At home we usually have some neighborhood fireworks but not to bad. A week of it does get old rather quickly.

Carolyn...we watched some of the Capital Fourth also and enjoyed it. Great you got an early morning workout in!

Have a great day all!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Raw Kettlebell & Kickbox. I really like Kelly's kettlebell work. This one was similar to the one in Build & Burn.
Thanks for the comments on the bath.

Deb-Ice and stretching should help. Maybe you should go to the doctor if it doesn't get better soon. There is a physical therapist on YouTube that has some good stretching videos:

Diane Sue-Chris did the plumbing for the bathroom. He replaced the toilet too. We have a plumber to call if we run into problems but so far everything has been ok. We're going to look at carpeting for upstairs tomorrow. That is something we won't be doing ourselves.

Lori-It's so good that you got to spend the 4th of July with Madeline. I am enjoying Kelly's site. She has all the raw workouts and some premixes from her dvds. I think she plans on putting up more of the premixes over time. I installed the VHX app on the Apple TV and that has been working pretty well.

Valerie-Chris is on the 3 year colonoscopy schedule since he had some polyps removed last year. His grandmother had colon cancer so it is a concern. We are very fortunate to have the screenings available. Our doctor's office is also recommending something called a FIT test in addition to the colonoscopy. I think it's similar to the older home screenings.

Carolyn-Nice workout! It sounds like you had a good holiday!

Judy

Deb, when my hip and low back were hurting, I had to do the spin bike upright for most of it . Leaning over the bars and pedaling was notbgood. I could see stairs, elliptical and things like that aggravating. I had to stretch and used my therapy balls several times a day, because the pain would come back. I used an ice pack when sitting every so often. I hope you feel better soon.

Lori, I am glad that you had this time with Madeline. It is wonderful that you had snother 4th with her. Cathe puts out some pretty intense workouts.

Judy, we have installed our own toilets and faucets. It seems the faucets arevthe item that can somtimes cause problems. My son installed the one upstairs. I imagine if we hadnt already had the plumber dig up the concrete to add plumbing we might have attemped it ourselves. We did install the new toilet in the master after the flooring was all done. We used the older smaller one in the guest bath. We have a retired fireman that is readonable and does plumbing that we use when running into a problem.
I thought that kelly workout was similar to build and burn too. I like that she doesnt do crazy stuff with the kettlebell that can cause injury

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Intervals #2 Circuits. This is actually 38 minutes but took me 47 minutes writing things down and letting my dog out twice!! She was urgent enough to finally head butt me to get me to let her out the second time. She's been acting off this last week. Not sure what it is. Anyway this was 285 calories, heart rate average 118, max 166, 1,876 steps met 5.5. I then did Home Gym Intervals 2 , 37 mutes, heart rate average 121, max 159, met 5.8, 1,544 steps. Total time was 84 minutes, 521 calories.
Home Gym Intervals 2 has 3 cardio segments and kelly does them with no equipment. I used the spin bike for some of it. The rest is all weight and strength segments. I did not write down all of the moves here and need to go back and rewatch it so I can add it to my notebook. She did do a squat thrust to bicep curl, a plank push up knee in, pike push up plank , and some abs at the end. That is what I recall right now. ;)
Raw Intervals #2 Kelly uses 7# dumbbells she goes through this whole sequence twice altering the moves or doing no weights the second time
plank pulls/plank jacks
biceps run curls I used 8# first then 7.5 Bowflex second time
lunge switch 8# first time 5# second time no weight
rope/ jack/ knee/knee
lateral raise/ single lateral raise 7.5#
frog squat/lunge left and right 8# dbs (second time no weight)
upper cuts hop forward and back/just upper cut
triceps extension/ triceps pull to front and overhead into extension 8# dbs
squat pops/ squat heel click 7.5# no weight second time through
curtsy/scales alternating sides used 8# kelly does no weight the second time
plank/star (plank raise arm up to side)
break and repeat all

Deb hope it improves. when I had it I left it alone and took NSAIDS. I am not "tight" in that area. it felt like everything irritated it, so I did some rides instead and skipped hiking. I was not bothered by the stairs here at home. hiking I could only go about 1.5 miles before it was very unpleasant. I remember struggling back from an easy hike feeling like I was 100 yo. I don't remember if I used the elliptical but probably not. mine did not get aggravated until I'd gone a ways.

Judy I'll see if I can find FIT test. not sure what that is.

thanks judy. I have not seen FIT before. I'm familiar with the stool cards it replaces. basically looking for the same thing, blood in the stool, in a slightly different way. if it's positive, then probably need a colonoscopy for people who won't do one to begin with. there might be situations where it is the best choice. we sure tried with my in-laws! we sent them the cards, but they never would do them. it's far better than nothing. It's up to the doc to decide if it supplies adequate information.

we rode a road ride 26 miles this morning. I am tired. have not been sleeping well so looking at caffeine to make sure I'm not using too much. I am having trouble going back to sleep in the middle of the night after an unavoidable bathroom run.

Today I did a Cardio Slam timesaver premix without the mat cardio. That was 35 minutes and 243 calories burned. Average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 154.

Deb, I hope some of the stretching and ice helps your hip bursitis. I don’t plan to sign up for Kelly’s streaming at this time. I might decide to try it later.

Judy, that Dr. Jo video has some of the same stretches that I do for hips and knees.

Diane Sue, great job with Coffeyfit Raw and Home Gym Intervals.

Hello to Valerie and Lori.

Valerie, it's too bad your in laws wouldn't use the cards. That is an easy test and you made it convenient for them. I got colonoscopy scheduled this afternoon and now I have to change the date. It is hard because my husband and my daughter are both off on Mondays and the doctor goes out of town to do it on Mondays and seems to be extremely busy. My daughter checked and the date ends up being one where she is in Co. for conferences and her husband is meeting her. She is not coming back till the day I had it scheduled. My husband is working that day. He has every other Monday. There was another appointment available in October! I guess it is not like I am really anxious to do it. The meal thing will cost me 45 dollars and I can either pick it up at the office with instructions or have it mailed for 50.00. I hope that you can get your rest.

Carolyn, when I do Cardio Slam I do the mat part without a mat. I don't really dread it like I did at first. I think I dread the first part the most :) I saw today that Kelly just put up a Raw tabata weight workout. I will check it out next week.

we felt very bad about the outcome. basically, they died because they wouldn't do either the stool cards or the colonoscopy. heck of a price to pay. it's most likely they had small tumors (when we first started pushing them) that could have been resected without a big deal but they would not do it. there is a point with an adult that you can't "make" them do something. stool cards, done in your own bathroom seemed pretty simple but they never would do them. their parents had colon cancer too. everyone waited until there were big problems and cancer had spread before being seen, and by then there was nothing to be done. It was not a good process.
Hope the diet plan works for you. it probably works for people with normal colons. the special diet, gatorade, miralax/ golytely, plus special food like jello probably run $20-25 so not "no cost" either.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. We did not do much at all. Mostly relaxed and read a book. The heat wave has broken ( I think). It was 58 degrees when we got up at 4:30- 5:00 this morning. :).

Lori, that is so nice that you were able to get to that party and see Madeline. She is a very strong woman. Sometimes its good to try something different, like working with a trainer. I have never tried that.

Judy, thank you for the link! These look really good. I am going to start with some icing as well. That's great that Chris was able to do the plumbing. Saves a lot of time and $$. John has done faucets, but not toilets. :).

Diane Sue, maybe Gertie is just upset because of the fireworks? Not sure I would like too many squat thrusts, or plank pushups...Is the meal prep benefit just not having to drink the stuff? The last time I had it done, the drink was different. I think it was added to something and had no taste at all.

Valerie, I am going to start taking ibuprofen more than I was. I just don't want to get into too many of those because of my stomach issues. Ugh...I hate this, sounding like a whining baby. Maybe try a week or so with no caffeine at all? Surprising how little it takes to interrupt sleep. That is so bad that they would not take or do any testing. You would think after the first one passed away, that they would be scared enough to go through whatever they had to. When my Mom died of lung cancer, every single relative in my family quit smoking. Watching what she went through was what did it.

Carolyn, nice premix. I was always happy that Cathe put one in without the mat stuff...LOL. Like Diane Sue mentioned, whenever Cathe has anything where you are going around, or jumping back and forth over the mat, I too don't use the mat at all and just do what I can with the moves.

Agility class this morning,

Take care,

Deb, Gertie has had a bit of anxiety over workers in our circle with a back hoe trenching a couple of yards. They have been at it for several days. Almost done though. They took down the work area fencing on one side. I was worried when they started digging on the opposite side of the street. Wondered how far they were going to have to go. Since mybhibiscus and crepe myrtle are near the street corner and I have the big planter with morning glories, they would have to tear them all up. I hope they are done where they are at. I also think she was missing us playing with her. We have been so busy and she keeps picking up a toy and lying down with it like she is hopeful. She put one on yhe foot of husbands recliner yesterday. I noticed this and before I wentbto bed we had a good tossing and fetch game up and down the stairs. Those segments on Kellys workout were short ones. Like two timed sets. I was rather slow at it, Some moves on these workouts, she makes suggestions for if something bothers the knees or you dont wantbto do the jumping, etc.
I guess it is not drinking the drink. I wont know till I get it with the instructions. I have read that a low residue diet the week before helps with the cleanse. I remember the one I had 10 years ago I drank all of that Miralax and I have never had Crystal light since.

I read today that people might want to avoid stevia if the are allergic to ragweed. That one was a new one for me. If I choose a sweetener it is usually stevia. Most nutrition products have stevia.

Valerie, that is true, I had not thought of the cost of those other items.

Today's workout was Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Crush, 32 minutes, average heart rate 140, max 169, 204 calories, met 5.8, 1,994 steps. This was four sets of each move before moving on to the next, 1 segment used an optional loop band, it uses step and floor. That one is from the youtube raw workouts. I then did Coffey Fit Raw stretch 28 minutes, 66 calories, 104 steps. Total time 60 minutes, 270 calories. We have company coming over this afternoon and going to dinner :)

Well... like crystal lite, I never looked at Gatorade again! jello? I was not a fan before, but after several preps I can't imagine eating it. usually the prep is a few days of low fiber foods that don't leave residue. like the outer skins on peas and corn, nuts seeds. I don't remember the list of what not to eat. I followed the diet the first time and the prep totally failed. it was a waste of time and money. the second time I ignored the prep and ate "normal food" before clear liquids day. it worked Ok except Golytely is pretty awful stuff by the time you work thru the giant jug. I think I added a squeeze of lemon or lime to mask the taste/odor a little.
anyway, by the time you buy the Miralax, jello, Gatorade, mag citrate, broth, and popsicles... if you can find non-red ones, you have spent a few $$$ but it's worth it to have a successful test. I am not saying "ignore" the special diet. it works fine for most people. I'm on the 10 year repeat, but with no family hx, I may not do it again.

my in laws were old, had bad habits, smokers, and were going to die of something. heart breaking to see people ignore fixable preventable things for no reason when the consequences are absolutely terrible.
Deb, it was the opposite for us of "everyone quitting smoking". at least that might give a little meaning to the loss of your mother, the huge price she paid helped others do what they needed to do.
DH's family did the "head in the sand" and ignored it. my aunt (MIL's half sister) had colon cancer but was able to get it removed and lived another 15 years. I took her for most procedures. her mother (dh's grandmother) died of colon cancer. I did a lot of the leg work. sad and not something you forget. her cancer was extensive. they opened her up and closed, nothing to do. she was not lucky and didn't pass quickly.

we are all so different I can't taste stevia at all. it is flavorless. I've tried it more than once.

Today I did Build and Burn Lower Body Tabata. That was 27 minutes and 146 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 155. After that I did JS Gentle Yoga Flow for hips and knees for an additional 22 minutes and 37 calories. My daughter and family left this morning so we are getting back to our normal routines.

Deb, Cathe’s premixes are nice because there are times that I don’t want to do mat cardio.

Diane Sue, another good Raw workout.

When I had my colonoscopy I used the Golytely prep. I had a hard time getting through the last of it. Fortunately I am on the 10 year schedule.

Hello to Valerie, Lori, and Judy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Valerie, my colonoscopy went well the first time. The only part that was rough is they did not schedule it till 3 in the afternoon and they were apologizing for running behind. I was so hungry and thirsty. It was miserable. I have only had the one. There has not been a history of colon cancer in my family. I probably like stevia because it is so mild flavored. I do not like too much sweet. I would rather use a few drops of honey myself. I bought some Swerve sweetener called for in a lot of Keto recipes and it is awful. It tastes rather bitter to me. I tried some cookies for my husband once and he wouldn't eat them because of the taste. I nibbled them 1 at a time out of the freezer and got my grandsons to try a couple. Now I have this expensive bag of sweetener that I won't use because it is a waste of the other ingredients. It is supposed to measure like sugar and is granulated erythritol.

Carolyn, I guess I am on the ten year schedule. Nice that you got in some yoga along with your workout. I keep trying to get more stretching in . It really does help avoid the tightness.
