Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/25

Our hike didn't work out. drove all that way and got to 1-2 miles from the trailhead, came around a corner, and there was snow. lots of snow! too much to negotiate. in spring it gets hollow, bottomless and very hard to walk on without snowshoes, and really, there was no point. it's not like the trail would not be buried too. will come back in a few weeks.

Lots of trouble with my computer or with IE. things lock up constantly and all I can do is shut it down and start over. keeps telling me it's "a long running script" or it stops, and has to "recover webpage". It might be Outlook, as it was trying to upgrade a short time ago, but when I clicked on the upgrade button, it locked up there too and would not access. took me forever just to turn it on and let it get to a home page. Not sure what is going on.

we loaded the mt bikes and rode the tree farm for 2 hours since the hike failed. hard to predict this year.

Deb, when I was looking for the anything on Dr Axe about using different types of collagen I saw on the label of the multi collagen at the bottom where it says warning. There is a statement about odor may be different from one batch to another and for freshness to refrigerate after opening. I don't see it on my collagen either. Mine just says type II chicken collagen as well.

Lori, I downloaded the manual for the Fit Tower workouts today too. Some of the rotations look good. I finally got a different download code. They downloaded but for some reason Windows Media player will not play them on my newer laptop. I tried to trouble shoot and have no idea what to do. I also put them on an external drive. My other downloads play so I find that extremely odd. To check it out I went to my old Windows 7 that is broken and downloaded there and they played. I also hooked up the external and they played there. I get so annoyed with electronics and keeping them all working correctly. You are lucky it comes easy for you. As I did the Fit Tower workouts I was thinking that much of it could be done without the tower. I like the use of the bands wrapped around the tower.

Hi Everyone,

My back feels a little better today, but not great. I'm hoping that a few more rest/easy days will help.

Deb-I haven't had an MRI. When I went to my doctor a couple of years ago for this, he wanted me to go to physical therapy first. I also went to an orthopedic doctor around that time, and he didn't recommend one either. I will try to get one if my back continues to bother me.

Diane Sue- I noticed that Kelly recommended the Abs Diet too. We have the books, but I haven't really looked at them too closely.
I agree, a boxed set from her would be nice.

Lori-I do subscribe to On Demand. I'll try Cathe's Fit Fusion workout soon. Your Fit Fusion blend sounds really good. I've previewed all of the Fit Tower workouts and I think that I am going to like them a lot. I am also tentatively planning on starting the Fit Tower 30 Day Rotation next week.

Carolyn-KCM's Cardio Quick Fix is a fun one! I also like to look at Cathe's rotations even if I'm not doing the rotation. It is a good way to remember some of Cathe's older workouts.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I plan to try one of the new DVD's today.

Diane Sue, that is pretty scary about the woman getting her hair colored at the Aveda salon and going to the ER! As much as I like my almond butter, I don't think I could eat it with a spoon. If you call Dr Axe, can you ask about the need to refrigerate? It does not say that on my container, and you would think that they should if it needs to be.

Carolyn, thanks for the tip on rolling the nut butter and refrigerating.

Lori, how will you fit all those workouts with the Fit Tower rotation? :). Still no answers on the streaming issue. I was glad to see that others are having the exact same issue as me. I hope Cathe's techs will look into it now.

Valerie, that is too bad that you drove out to the trail and were not able to hike. :(. Have you tried clearing your cache etc on the computer? If so, maybe try another browser like Chrome instead of IE and see if that is better.

Judy, good your back is better. At least with an MRI you can eliminate anything like a ruptured disk etc. I need to go and find out what the Abs Diet is all about. I remember hearing it mentioned, but that was years ago.

Have a great day!

Deb-I agree about the MRI, it's probably something I need to try to get.

Valerie-I'm sorry about your hike. That would be disappointing to drive all that way and then find too much snow.
I used to get a "a long running script" message when I was using IE. I haven't seen that with Chrome. I have been having issues with outlook lately. I'm not sure what's going on, but it's been locking up on me and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get it to work.

Valerie, my computer locks up on me and it tells me whaterpver inam on is not responding. I generally have to shut down the internet and log back in. It doesnt happen to my husband, so it is my computer. I had to work to get it to update yesterday. I was hoping it would help Windows Media player to work for the new workouts. It kept saying update failed. Finally shutbdown and came back on and tried and it worked. The media player still wont work for the new workouts. It keeps saying something about the codec.

Deb, i made a note to ask Dr Ace about the refrigeratiion. It does not say you have to. It recommends it on that container and otherwise says store in a cool dry place.

Judy, i hope your back improves without having to do an mri. I have had the Abs diet book and cookbook for years. It is pretty simple. No fancy ingredients. More bread and carbs than i generally use. If i were to try that i would be tracking down gluten free no gmo products.

I think this is very weird. I have no interest in the nutritional supplements several of you use. I've never looked them up. I don't think I've mentioned them in any of my posts. as of this morning, I am suddenly getting pop up ads for these specific products from the person/company you have gotten them from. ( I am purposely not naming product or dr in this post.) I know how when you look up something, you will then be overrun with ads for the product. this seems like a real stretch in advertising. I'm getting ads because we post on the same thread?? how does that work?

we are going to road ride this morning, getting hair done mid day.
we did a shut down and reset of our modem after internet went down yesterday. DH was having problems too, and then we lost all service. phone too. things seem better and more normal today so it might have been our ISP rather than our desktops .
Judy have you upgraded Outlook? I thought at first they were trying to force upgrades by making the older program work badly. I have
chrome and use it occasionally. it seems to have a simpler operation but I don't like it as well as IE when IE works. it does give me a back up browser. Anyone know what happened to firefox? I used that at one time too.

Today I did Tabatacisse, 48 minutes, 339 calories heart rate 131 average/ 159 max. As hard as I work on this one I am always surprised at my calorie burn and heart rate. I then did a premix from the Fit Tower Legs, Glutes, and core workout to get in the glute segment I had not done yet. It was mish mosh #2 Glute Max. I wore 3# ankle weights and used my latex free medium band for the glute squeezes. I am sure to feel this one. Stretching felt good at the end. They do the standing glutes segment twice and they repeat the glute squeeze segment 3 times. I kept thinking I was done and it would go back and have you repeat that segment again. For a bit I wondered if the dvd was stuck LOL Anyway, I feel these workouts work the lower body a lot. Total Body has an upper premix that I am going to do tomorrow along with another upper workout. Bootcamp has a cardio premix and a some lower focus premixes but no upper mix. I like the band upper work in it though. Calories for the Glute max mix was 117 and 38 minutes. I don't no how the workout manager has 282 calories and met 7 for this. I do think these are pretty efficient. On the glute mas, they do not wear ankle weights and they have one person use the band on the glute squeezes. I don't think I would feel it much without some resistance. I am so upset, I saw there was a new ATT update for my Samsung phone. I put not now earlier this morning and it just went ahead and started the process. The last two updates caused me to have to get a new phone. Now I am worried the apps are going to quit working again.

Valerie, that is not right. I hate the way these companies get your information and push their stuff. I have noticed things my husband looks at popping up on my stuff. I just figured it was because we use the same internet and both shop Amazon. I am sorry this is happening.

Edited to add that I thought it strange that I use a different e mail when I shop and the one supplement shopping place messaged me about my order through messenger that I use a different e mail for. I rarely get anything through messenger other than a sister in law and a friend who has more recently just started texting. It surprised me.

Just got back from taking our grandson 6 who chose McDonalds for lunch and I ended up with a salad. Then ice cream at the new ice cream parlor. My husband wanted to go inside the new Orange Therapy Fitness place to check it out. I was game, as I have looked at their stuff on line and Julie Bauer mentions it on her blog. I don't think we would go though. It is all classes and no just using equipment on your own. They said they use classes that have been tested before hand. I wonder how the TRX type equipment is used in there. It is also hard to imagine a rowing and treadmill class. I guess there are dvds so it shouldn't be hard to imagine. I wish I had the hook put on the ceiling for my TRX X mount. My husband worries about putting it on the ceiling.

Valerie-I haven't upgraded Outlook recently. I have the 2013 version. I still have Firefox on my computer but I don't use it a lot. That is weird about the pop-up ads. I get them too, but I also go to that site occasionally, so I wasn't surprised by it.

Diane Sue-We have Orange Theory around here too. I don't think I would ever go either.

Today I did Low Impact Circuit, another oldie. Workout time was 1 hour and 5 minutes (I skipped the abs section) and 448 calories burned. Average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 155. I made a quick trip to Costco after my workout then met two friends from the club for lunch and to work on a stock study. We weren't very successful in deciding on a new company to present to the club.

Valerie, that's odd about the pop-up adds that you are receiving. I get them sometimes, but like Judy, I do visit that site.

Hello to everyone.

Carolyn, I find it interesting that I burn more calories, like you did today with workouts like Low Impact Circuit. I guess the Hiit and tabata workouts burn the extra calories as the after burn or something. Your day sounds pleasant with friends even if you were not successful in decision making.

Judy, I don't use Outlook. I don't even know if it is on my computer. I don't think I have ever used it so I don't really know what it does.

I am certainly not blaming any of you for these ads showing up. I have no interest in these products, but obviously you can buy and talk about what you want. I just think it is downright weird that I should get ads merely because we post on the same thread! I see ads for things my husband looks at and likewise, he can tell what I've been looking at. but we are using the same connection so that seems OK. it seems like there should be a few degrees of separation. I never looked up any of those products nor the company.

anyway, we did our 26 mile road ride, I got my hair done, and a bunch of other errands. Judy, I will see if I can see what version of Outlook we are using. I know there was an upgrade a couple years ago that was not voluntary. diane sue it's just an email program. all issues seem to have cleared on my system, at least for the moment.

Valerie, thanks for letting me know what outlook does. I think it is what was popping up when I would go to send a message to a website and there was no email address. More recently I stopped getting that when I set another service as my default email. I do like sharing websites and products with each other. I find it odd that so many companies have found a way to advertise. I always wonder where the monetary end of letting them do that passed hands. It sounds like you had a productive day today.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was a BBS Tramp workout then it was on to one of their Jumprope workouts that I really enjoy on the JumpSport. Tonight was Cathe's FT Total Body. Total workout time was 77mins / 448 cal. I really liked the TB a lot. So I am loving 2 for 2 right now. Will do the Legs one this weekend.

Deb...the 30 day Fit Tower rotation has a few days during the week listed as cardio of choice. This will be perfect for my BBS workouts. I like working out 2x a day as I am sure you have noticed and will be easy to fit in SB's rotation. I don't think I could go 30 days without SB or a BBS workout! I saw that others are having the same streaming issue. Hope it gets resolved soon. I loved the total body workout and found myself using the tower a lot. If you would like I can measure each number from the floor up so you will have a good idea of how to set yours. Will this help? Then perhaps you can use tape to mark the equivalent of the new towers 1,2 etc. on yours.

Valerie...wow hard to believe there is snow in places this time of year. A 26 mile ride, hair done and errands sounds like a successful day to me! I like reading about everyones nutritional supplements but will never be able to jump on the band wagon. I have tried but never stick with anything. I have a hard time always remembering my diabetes medicine nevermind anything else!

Diane Sue...when Tabatacise first came out I had a Polar HR monitor and it registered my at a HR high of 174. I should try it again to see what the apple watch registers it. I remember my heart was pumping! When I did my Fit Fusion workout I also, did the glute squeezes with the band for extra tension. Hoping you have no issues with the update.

Judy...glad your back is feeling a little better. Hope all is well soon. Perhaps we can do the 30 day rotation together? I am starting on Monday. Maybe others will join in?

Carolyn...I need to look up low impact circuit. I do not have any memories of it!

Have a great night all!

Lori we have TONS of snow yet. we are like California except x 10, if you are getting newspaper stories about the PCT hikers who are having a difficult year going thru the CA mountains. down low, where people live, mostly less than 2500 feet elevation, snow is gone, but as you go up there is a ton. we are going to try a different hike tomorrow. there will be snow but we know we can get to the trailhead. Mostly we are doing it to hike even if we can't get to the top. all the riding doesn't help me get fit to hike. there is something dismal about needing to walk miles on a forest service road before you even get to the trail like yesterday. some of the destinations have snow all year, just permanent snowfields not glaciers. it slowly melts out over summer but many years it stays all year.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Fit Tower Total Body....62 minutes, 300 calories. I spent the extra 10 minutes pausing to adjust the bar on the Tower. The old Tower has 17 notch holes for the bar, from what I can see, the new one has only 10. I was using Cathe's number as a guideline, but it still needed to be adjusted. I will have to figure out the right height for me either way. I am about 5'3, and Cathe mentions she is 5'2, so I thought that I should be able to use her number and convert to my Tower's numbers. Not as easy as you would think. Someone posted on a thread I created showing a picture of the old tower with numbers on it to be equivalent to the new one. it is hard to see though. I liked the workout.

Diane Sue, that is annoying that the new workouts won't play on your laptop. Have you contacted the Admin and asked if there is an issue? I still don't have a fix to why all of a sudden the older Live workouts won't cast to my TV. At least they admitted there is a problem. It was after others chimed in and said they had the same problem. I hope your phone is ok!

Valerie, if you opened a link that Diane Sue or I posted to Dr Axe site, you will start to get pop up ads. Very annoying I know. I get them all the time, but I know it is because I went to a site, or looked at something on Amazon. It sounds like maybe your ISP was having issues. I hope the shut down corrected whatever was going on with your computer. I have the full version of Outlook. It comes with Microsoft Office Pro...I have the 2013 version. I have never had any issues with it.

Lori, that's good that you can insert the bounce etc workouts in the new rotation. THANK YOU! that would be great if you could to that with the new Tower!! :). I would then mark mine with the equivalent number. Smart girl you are! I would like to do the 30 day rotation too...however I am not that good on sticking to rotations.

Maybe a treadmill workout today....

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb, here is my answer from Dr Axe not as complete as I had hoped as they did not answer my first question fully and I thought I was clear on taking it at the same time of day. But, they have a disclaimer on answering medical type questions? It is interesting though and makes me want to use more than one type of collagen as I generally look for type II which I feel has really worked well for the torn miniscus and being able to get back into jumping and doing my workouts.

Hi, Diane

Altogether, collagen types I, II, and III are 80% to 90% of the collagen in people.

For skin and beauty (i.e. anti-aging), Type I Collagen is considered to be the best (most abundant kind in the body). Collagen type II is used in the treatment of arthritis, cellulite, and wrinkles. As for collagen type III, it is used for healthy skin, bone, and muscles.

For Healthy Skin: Choose a supplement with hydrolyzed types I and III collagen.

For Healthy Joints: Choose type II collagen to support cartilage and joint lubrication.

For Exercise Recovery: Collagen types I and III support tendons and ligaments while type II supports joints.

Dr. Axe does recommend to refrigerate the Collagen after opening the bottle for a better preservation of the product and its nutrients.

Make sure if you have any health related concern you consult your health specialist.

Hopefully, this helps.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with :)!

Thanks!

I am wondering if it is okay to take different types of collagen at the same time of day. I have read in some places that type I and III should not be taken with type II. I am just curious. Also, are you supposed to refrigerate the collagen powder? I saw on the label of a container of multi collagen that it recommended cool dry place or refrigeration after opening> Thanks in advance. I have been using your collagen and bone broth protein supplements for a long time. They are very helpful.

Lorie, it would be interesting to see how you do on Tabatacise now. It does seem somewhat easier to me, but then most workouts do, unless I am extra tired. I only occasionally got a heart rate at even 170 with my Polar until I started having them go bonkers and giving me 220 or so when I was standing still :p

Deb, I emailed Cathe's back and told them that I got the download but it won't play on my laptop. No answer came back though. I hope they get the streaming fixed. I have the new Fit Tower and I spent extra time adjusting where the step was, height, and I started out with the clips on the wrong side of the tower and they were in the way when I was doing bench presses. It is going to take some adjusting till I get it all down even with the new tower. I am 5'4 and I used Cathe's levels on the tower and it worked fine for me. Wow, you were up early or is 4;13 am my time and not yours?
