Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/24

Lawn mowing and golf were the worst things for aggravating my allergies If I avoid those two things my symptoms are entirely gone. I’d pay someone else to mow. The aerosol of grass, tree pollen and dust is the worst. not mowing the lawn was the biggest factor in knocking down my allergies.

Lori my neighbor has crohns .... he is a bout 75 and has had it a long time. I thought colonoscopy was the main way it was diagnosed so assuming your DH has been scoped before?? colonoscopies are such fun! Hopefully the docs can share knowledge and get to a conclusion.

DH talked to my brother this morning. he assures us he is doing this on the up and up and things will be divided properly. I am still nervous about it but am going to let it go at least for a while to see if things follow thru. the life insurance seems to be being distributed properly. I am going to let this go for a few weeks and see if we get the promised copy of the trust.

thank you all for your understanding. this did not (!!) need to be this stressful. I am still very uneasy about what is in writing. it is so important to keep things open and clear so no one gets to thinking things are not being done right. I am NOT the only one who is uncomfortable about this. DH is a pretty good judge of people and he doesn't think my brother sounded like he was doing anything dishonest. I am going to try to let it go at least for a while. there are so many contradictions here it is hard to feel sure of anything. ETA I am uneasy because my brother is a person who always does things in a round- about- way, hardly ever straight from the hip and just a little on the shady side. he will hire people for a job and pay them cash to get it cheaper, or have it done in off hours. that kind of thing. we went thru this process only a few years ago with DH's parents, died within a year of each other, and my SIL did the legal work. she kept everyone completely informed, documented everything, and tried to avoid any hint of impropriety. I would do it that way too. my brother, not so much.

I signed up for Kelly's Streaming. She has it for 6.99 monthly for the rest of the summer. I had a few struggles and may just drag my downstairs laptop upstairs every day. My Windows 7 that I have in my workout room does not have HDMI for whatever reason. I tried my Roku stick and signed up for VHX but it only loads partway and stops. We have a Roku 3, but it is on our main television. If I try to use the internet through my Blue Ray player it says there is not enough space to load. I have a cable that hooks from my Samsung cell to hdmi and that is how I streamed Cathe Live, but I don't like using the phone and getting messages and calls at the same time. I wish it worked for my samsung tablet which is what I bought it for, but it doesn't. I did screen mirroring from my tablet for the first workout, but it stopped mirroring right at the last 3 minutes. I finished it with just the tablet.
Here is my workout today. I wanted lighter so, chose Kettlebell dumbbell raw workout, lower focus and low impact for almost all of it. This was 31 minutes, average heart rate 117, max heart rate 150, 184 calories, 1, 092 steps. I used 20 # kettlebell (except for halos which I used 15) and 15# dumbbells. I then did Raw bands and bar which is an upper and lower move for 3 sets then another, upper was tubing and lower was barre(stick) with 3# ankle weights, 34 minutes, heart rate average 112, max 144, 176 calories, 937 steps. Total time 65 minutes, 360 calories.
Anyway, todays experience is one of the reasons I do not care much for streaming.

Deb, that is how my hip was. I don't want to revisit that and have been trying to go a bit lighter on stuff and get stretching in. That is odd about your sleep patterns. Particularly times. Mine seems really accurate. I know what time I get up and go to bed and can see it is correct. Whenever it starts messing up on giving all of the stats I shut down my watch and bluetooth and the pair it all over again. That sometimes works. Also shut off the cell phone and restart. They are nice devices, but I think sometimes interference makes them go haywire.

Valerie, my husband came home and asked why I didn't at least wear a mask. It was so hot, and I honestly don't think it helps much. I was driving to the store and could smell fresh mowed grass driving out of our neighborhood. I was thinking how that cannot be good. I feel like I need a kleenex glued to my nose or something. It is so aggravating. If I recall the last part of August I generally get a short reprieve and then it is some more tree pollen. A secondary one I think from birch and a couple of others.

Carolyn, I have notebooks that have my start up calorie burns with workouts and then after doing them a few times and I got a lot more calories out of them than I do now. Too, all of the years of workout has changed that.

Good morning,

Still resting my hip. I did not do anything yesterday. I have agility class this morning, hoping that does not aggravate it too much. It is supposed to be in the upper 90's for the next 3-4 days.

Carolyn, that's a great calorie burn for only 46 minutes. Was the JS yoga you did for hips and knees a DVD or a YouTube video?

Valerie, that is great that your DH spoke with your brother and that your brother seems to be trying to do the right thing. That has to make you feel a little better.

Diane Sue, that is too bad about the streaming....I use Google Home with mirroring and my Samsung phone and so far it has been the best way to do it. The only time I have an issue is when my home network is having problems. Once in a while I reboot my phone, just to make sure all the "stuff" is cleared from it. I am hoping it is bursitis in my hip, rather than an actual joint issue. I don't like taking anything too much, especially ibuprofen.

Hi to Judy & Lori!

Have a great weekend and for those of us in a heat wave, STAY COOL!

Deb, if someone WANTED to enrage people and cause distrust they would write a will like this. I think his attorney must be a complete idiot . no one could read this and conclude anything different from what we concluded. talking to brother over the phone though, he seemed sincere. what kind of decent lawyer would put together something so inflammatory? we will see, hopefully it will go OK. truly, there will not be all that much to fight over and the legal costs would make it more of a "principle- of- the- thing " case rather than for anyone actually benefitting. I'm sorry, you guys must all be tired of hearing about this! it certainly has messed up my life lately.

my sympathy on those temps. especially if it comes with humidity. I don't envy you. we are in a cool wet pattern, a relief for the 4th with the fireworks issues. it is not too dry this year.

when my allergies get actvated, it's my nose, throat, ears , even my eyes. its why I limit exposure to the allergen.

Whats everyone doing for the 4th?

Today I did all Coffey Fit Raw workouts. I started with her Just Step, 24 minutes, 162 calories, met 6.1 heart rate average 143, max 166, 2,244 steps. I really liked this and will be doing it again. I then did Hi/Lo Cardio with Tatum Coffey, this was a really good total body workout with the 14 minutes of alternating hi/lo moves (the high did not feel real extreme and could easily be modified), then id goes to some floor pizza press and leg raises, then back up to light cardio with 3# dumbbells doing upper body with lower body movements and ends with a brief core workout with the dumbbell, 34 minutes, 216 calories, heart rate 130, max 167, 1,876 steps, met 5.8. I finished off with the Raw stretch, 28 minutes, 56 calories. I probably shouldn't even count this. It is a good stretch. This is the first time I have seen her do a stretch or yoga without shoes. I remember on one workout her saying she was not a barefoot kind of girl :) I think that was on an older workout where she added a brief yoga to it. Total time was 86 minutes, 434 calories. I like that I can look at the workouts and add what I am interested in or like to my list. Then I just click to look at the workouts and my list is there or all of the workouts. It makes it faster than looking through them for particular workouts. I was going to do the finisher cardio workout, but when I started it and Kelly had a 20# dumbbell doing clean and press I decided not to push it on the shoulders, hence the decision to do the Hi/Lo workout. I thought about stopping at the end of the cardio portion before she did the weight work , but kept going. The 3# weights and high reps still kept the heart rate up some.
I checked out the Roku 3 downstairs and it plays the VHX (vimeo channel) perfectly for Kelly's Streaming. I ordered a Roku 4 ultra for downstairs which will be here tomorrow and will move the Roku 3 up to the workout room. That way, I don't have to worry about streaming not working if I get Cathe's again or some others I want to try. I took my laptop upstairs and used HDMI this morning.

Deb, I am sorry you are having the problems with the hips. Maybe you could use a tennis ball and check out some of the Yoga Tune Up segments on YouTube. I found doing that along with the yoga and stretching really helped. It releases those tight places and helps them heal more quickly. Our network is supposed to be top speed around here. It gets about a third of the mbps that they say it will. I have tried all of their solutions and replaced the router/modem for updating the system. It does have times where I get a signal on my laptop that there is high traffic. Generally this is during holidays or evenings when more people are at home. I am guessing that has some to do with it as sometimes we shut everything off when we are watching a movie just to get it not to buffer.

Valerie, it had to have been very emotional and disconcerting when you got the will in the mail. I hope it can be worked out and does not create a cavern between your brother and the family. Do you think he saw or had an idea of what the will contained before it was sent out? It seems he would have not been calling before if he knew. I guess I tend to try to think there is some decency in people and not think the worst.
My allergies lead me to coughing till I am gagging because everything is irritated and itchy from my nose down into my throat, my chest hurts and sometimes my ears get clogged. I hate it, I hate antihistamines and won't use them. None seem to work. I have been trying the bee pollen for two years now. I will say it helps enough that I can usually manage going to church or shopping with a bottle of water and some cough drops and I am not scaring everyone away. I used to have coughing fits in Walmart and people would clear the isle. The big problem is I seem to have symptoms during all of the seasons, which makes it almost year round, so there is not much of a time period during the actual season to let up on the local bee pollen. I am trying to track which seasons cause the worst symptoms. I swear the early cedar this year into the tree pollen was the worst so far.

No workout for me today. I felt tired this morning so I decided to make this a rest day.

Deb, the JS yoga that I did is from a dvd. I haven’t seen one like that on her YouTube channel.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you are enjoying the KCM streaming and that you have made it work for you.

Valerie, maybe the situation with your brother is that he just didn’t read the will closely. I hope it can be resolved soon.

Hello to Lori and Judy.

My sister has some kind of attention deficit disorder. it is impossible to keep her focused on anything, let alone what is important. she is not stupid but just can't focus. maybe due to all the medications she has had to take for decades. my brother may have issues but different. I know he didn't do well in school but he is not dumb. not very well educated, but not dumb. sometimes I think maybe dyslexia of some sort? I know he is not computer literate. I don't think he reads very well. he does things in person rather than written. it is really hard to pin things like this down if the person is trying to keep it hidden. I doubt he ever read the will. he remembers everything though... while sister forgets everything important.

Carolyn, I hope you had a good rest day :)

Valerie, meds can really dampen focus, and motivation to do much. I think now teachers and schools pay a bit more attention to children with learning problems and try to get parents to find the cause. Not everyone has a desire to read. It is hard to make a child read when they have not interest. That means they do not become good at it and lack of attention to it. It is good that your brother has a good memory for things though. I am guessing that your brother's wife does read.

anti seizure meds destroy parts of your brain after 50 years but there was really not an option. you can't function when you can seize at any moment, and the seizures themselves destroy brain cells... screwed no matter which way you do it. long term med use with increasing dosage has left her a mess. her seizures used to at least be controlled but they are not completely anymore. so she hasn't been able to drive in years and can seize at any time but doesn't happen not real often. her teeth are falling out now. it is a brain disfunction.... she knows she can't focus but somehow it doesn't help her to do better. she is VERY difficult to deal with sometimes. impulse control is lacking.
brother is married to a teacher. weird. like people marry someone who has the piece they are missing.

I did rock'em sock' em this afternoon when it became clear the rain would not stop. it is a mixed issue. nice it's not dry with worry about fireworks starting fires but wet and not amenable to outdoor activities.

Hi Everyone,

We got really ambitious yesterday and purchased the new flooring. Chris has all week off so we are going to try to get as much of it installed as we can. We still have the half bath torn apart (more dry wall issues) so we will put the floor down in there first. I'll post photos as soon as we make some progress. I also signed up for Kelly's streaming since she has the $6.99 a month special going. Last night I did her Raw stretch. I really liked it and will do it again.

Deb-I'm sorry about your hip. I agree with Diane Sue about looking at the yoga tune up segments on YouTube. It's been very hot here too, in the high 90's with heat and air quality advisories all weekend.

Diane Sue-I'm going to try a few of the Raw workouts you mentioned. Bands and Barre sounds good and so does Kettlebell Dumbbell lower focus.
I hate using antihistamines too, but I had to give in and start taking Allegra D again.

Valerie-That is too bad about your sister. I can see how those kind of medications could really cause issues after taking them for so long.
Great job with Rock'em Sock'em!

Carolyn-I hope you had a good rest day.
