Happy Mother's Day!

The party was nice, still so sad to see my uncle like that. He is now in full nursing, no longer in the assisted living place.

Judy, I think you have found another series that you like. What is the hip opener? I take it it's an SB workout? That doctor should get the death sentence!

Valerie, I can imagine how awful it is riding through nettle. I hope the gash on your leg heals easily.

Diane Sue, nice mix of workouts. :).

HI to Josie, Lori, Caitlin, & Lynda,

Have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Yesterday was a rest day. I'm not sure what I will be doing today. We are working on some projects around the condo so I might not get a workout in until this evening.

Deb-That is sad about your uncle. Yes, the hip opener is an SB workout/stretch. It's on her youtube channel so you can see it without having to subscribe to her streaming:

I agree about the doctor. I hope he never gets out of prison. He is a monster.

Valerie-I think I have carpal tunnel too. It's mostly my right hand from 20+ years of using a mouse and doing computer work. It's not bad enough for me to think about surgery either.

Diane Sue-Great workouts!

Lori-How was Cathe's 100th Live workout?

Hi to Lynda, Josie, & Caitlin!

Judy

Good morning and Happy Mother's day to all!! We all have our furbabies! :)

The 100th live workout was great! Burned just under 500 calories. Heart rate reached 175 at one point. I used my heavy bag for all the boxing moves then of course for the 100 reps. I'll be doing this one again. I will also cue up just the step and core (starts at 28:30) if I want a quick add on to another workout or just do a time saver. Even just doing the boxing portion then skipping to cool down or doing your own cool down would be a great. Both would give you a nice little 30 min workout.

My son will be over for breakfast and then spending the day. His GF will be over at some point. It the weather holds out we plan to go on a hike. Otherwise it will be a card game and a movie. We are grilling some steaks later then all watching GOT tonight on the movie screen. The kids have not used our set up yet. I do believe they will be impressed. :)

Deb...very sad about your Uncle.

Valeie...yikes that gash sounded awful. Take care of that leg!

Judy...as you can see above loved the 100th workout. I have never used just the platform before and was not sure how this would be and it was great. Just enough to really get that heart rate up but did not feel like I was really using anything if this makes sense! Never did the hip stretch. Completely forgot! Going for it today though.

Hi to everyone and enjoy the day!

Had my usual hand issues yesterday while riding. I try like crazy to keep changing positions but after about 12-15 miles I need to stop regularly, usually for a minute or two but frequency increases the longer I ride. the gash in my leg is impressive . the large chain ring chopped right thru the skin. it's about 4 inches long, tender but is healing OK.

congrats on the ride Josie!

Yesterday we were setting up a new deck umbrella. took down the old one. when DH moved the umbrella base, a little bat fell out of the handle hole. he wasn't sure if he touched it or not because we both scrambled quickly out of the way. we have plenty of bats around but this one was sick and died soon after. so we cautiously boxed him up and tried to find out what we need to do, both for the white nose disease and also rabies potential.

that knee /hip opener.. I can NOT get my bent leg in that position. ...not even close. even after 10 yrs of yoga, joint simply not aligned in that direction. it does really stretch out the hip area though so I do it anyway.

Hi everyone--

I did the Quick Fix 100th workout too this morning (52 min.). I had to do some modifications, but this is definitely a keeper. My heart beat was definitely up there. I start to laugh when Cathe calls out, "Ready?" It's a very shrill call, and it reminds me of my 6th grade teacher on track-and-field day--an old bat if there ever was one, but she was a good teacher.

That doctor should get some chemo treatments as part of his punishment. Judy, that looks like the pigeon pose from yoga, and when I do it I always get cramps in my feet. I don't know why.

Valerie, I guess you will have to get that bat tested. Is it possible to get rabies just from touching a sick animal? I always thought there had to be a break in the skin from a bite. I don't know though. I find that position awkward too. Cathe seems to do it a lot in her cool down stretches.

Lori, you have every right to be proud of your son if he is on the Dean's List. I will probably record GOT because I need to see the season finale of the GW tonight. Also the series finale.

Deb, is your uncle in good spirits even though in a nursing home?

Hope you are having a great Mother's Day, Diane Sue, and enjoying those enchiladas. I am going out for sushi tonight--a special treat for me.

Josie, are you doing anything special for Mother's Day?

Hi to Caitlin!

Yes, pigeon pose. my foot and knee point downward mostly, not sideways like demonstrated. regardless, it seems to stretch out the hip area. I have as much chance of doing that as I did of lotus, or fire log pose . I'm overall quite flexible but my knees /hips, don't allow that position at all. even plain cross legged is not comfortable for me unless I do yoga regularly.
Lynda, it's saliva that carries the rabies virus, and generally you would need to be bitten or get it in an open wound to be infected .... my understanding at least. I'd feel better if we knew for sure the bat wasn't rabid. we will probably get it tested so we can sleep at night. both of us are kind of banged up right now with cuts and scrapes from biking and gardening. we've had found dead bats before, got a few in the house over the years too but always got them out without any direct contact. there's a loop in the umbrella base to pick it up, DH put his hand into it and that's where we think the bat was, but it all happened so fast and we weren't expecting anything like that so we aren't sure where he was. he could have been under the table edge too.

think I will do another upper body workout today. I did get a little sore so I have not done them often enough lately.

No workout but, today is my rest day anyway. I had a nice time with family and ate terrible:D Cookies, enchiladas, chips, and a few healthy things. Tomorrow I will be back on track. I got money and a gift card. It always makes it hard to choose which items I really want when that happens. I have too big of a list :) The birthday party for my 2 year old grandson was fun. He got to see the cows. My son in law had to coax them all down the hill because they were in the neighbors pasture to clear off some of their grass. It was a bit worrisome when he came running down the hill with the wagon of treats and with the cows and the large bull chasing after him. My daughter was trying to get him to get out of the way. Anyway, children got to hand feed the cows treats that would take them or tossed them to them. Baby Micah (the 2 year old) would not stop till every tidbit was tossed out there. The tried to interest him in holding a chicken but that was not doing it for him. He had cow napkins and plates and a farm animal cake.
I could never get my leg out like that in that stretch either. Maybe one side would come close but my other leg has issues and there is absolutely no way. I had carpal tunnel for years. It got so bad and painful. The final bout with a lot of pain was after painting a bedroom. I was up all night in so much pain. I used to wear those arm splints. I finally went through the testing which was painful. The surgery wasn't and was well worth it. I never had another issue with it. That was about 25 years ago.

Lynda, I get cramps in my feet all of the time when I am doing those poses. I get toe cramps a lot. I have never eaten what I guess real sushi would be. My son always loved it. I got some from Schwan's once (I think the fish was cooked) and my granddaughter and I tried some of each flavor and then we gave it to our dog. So many people seem to love it. When I cook fish I generally cook it to death so there is no mushy stuff left in it. I get a kick out of Cathe sometimes :)

Lori, that 100th workout sounds like a really good one. It sounds like you had a nice evening planned.

Judy, thanks for posting the video. I will have to go to youtube and see what else she has there. I am flexible but I just think it is t he way my joints are. The one knee will pop up when I am trying to sit cross legged. I can get close to doing full splits plow and things like that are not a problem, crane is not a problem but if my knee needs to turn out and be flat on the floor it is not happening. I like the way they do the pidgeon on some of the fitness blender workouts and then lift up and reach back and grab a foot pulling it up behind. It really stretches the hip flexor and quadriceps.

Deb, I am sorry that your uncle is not doing well. I am glad that he got to be there with you.

Josie, glad to hear that your ride went well yesterday :)

Hi Caitlin

Hope I did not miss anyone.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Lift It Hit It Legs. A nice quick lower body workout, with cardio bursts. John went fishing, but came back early since it was getting pretty cold. We did stuff around here, laundry, Kylee grooming/bath etc. It was too cold to stay outside and do yard work. When will it ever warm up?

Judy, thanks for the link to that video. I copied the link on my iPad so I can try it. I like that it is focused on the hips and short.

Lori, Thanks for the info on that workout. I wonder why she does the step portion with only the platform? yes we all have our fur babies :). Mine gave me flowers and candy. No matter how many times I tell "them" not to bring candy into the house, they keep on doing it. Did you end up going on the hike or watching a movie? Both sound like fun.

Josie, safe travels.

Valerie, you are lucky that you didn't need stitches with that gash on your leg. Scary about the bat. Good that you are getting it tested. If you or your DH touched it at all, I would be concerned. We have had 4 of them in our house over the years, but all were alive and flying...we got them to fly out the front door, or caught them in a bucket and let loose outside. We probably should have called someone in to come and take them for testing etc. I am like you, I used to be able to sit cross legged on the floor, but cannot get into that position any more, my hips are so tight. I am going to try the stretch that Judy posted. I finished the first season of Last Tango in Halifax and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for suggesting it. I have Scott & Baily DVD's up next.

Linda, How was your sushi dinner? I love that shrill "ready" call that Cathe does...she sounds like the wicked witch of the west or something...I can do that pigeon position, but it takes me longer to get into it than Cathe and crew. I have to watch the GW tonight or maybe save for tomorrow and watch with Blue Bloods. My uncle is in pretty good spirits generally, but sometimes he can get a bit cranky...he wants to go "home" and asks where his wife is....sad.

Diane Sue, what fun that party must have been. I can't imagine cows and the bull running down the hill to get those treats! I am with you on the sushi....I will not eat raw fish, and as for the cooked ones, its like "meh" for me. Speaking about fish, John got 11 pounds of frozen walleye cheeks from a patient that has a restaurant.....they are supposed to be a delicacy....I have never had them but I guess we will be having them a lot in the future!

A workout, and I think I will go to my cousins and work a few hours, she has been so busy with moving recently she has files that need attention....LOL...

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

No workout yesterday and today. The drive home fro San diego was more tiering that the 100 mile bike ride, so when I got home I jut had a late lunch and relaxed for the rest of the day. We had a great celebrating my DS's birthday on Friday and Saturday. We had Sushi on Friday and Mexican food on Saturday. Tomorrow I will be spinning and Karina is coming over.

We are going to New Orleans from Wednesday-Sunday. I have never been there, so I'm looking forward to seeing it and eating some of their amazing cuisine :). I need to go get a haircut, mani-pedi and do a little shopping with my Mother's day present.

Garance, the ride starts at the Cow Palace on June 5th. We are arriving on Friday the 3rd and we have orientation on the 4th from around 8:00-4:00. The I will be carbo loading with clam chowder in a sourdough bowl after orientation ;).

Valerie, I used to get numbness on my left hand when I first started ridding. It only took an adjustment of the handlebars. The tech move them up about an inch any it took care of the problem. I've never had a cut from my bike, but lots of bruises.

Judy, I love that stretch, I do it every time I workout.

Deb, I can't believe it's still cold where you live. It has been in the mid 60's here which is perfect for riding.

Lori, my TM has not been used in a while and neither my spin bike, but we have plenty of room in the garage for both of them.

Diane sue, it sounds like you had a great time at your grandsons party. I never worry about what I eat at parties, I just enjoy ;)

Hi to Caitlin!

Josie

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Push-Pull (41 min.). Nice short weight workout.

My sushi was excellent last night--especially the yellowtail tuna. I also love the wasabi which I tuck between the fish and the finger of rice before dipping in soy.

Deb, fish cheeks are very succulent and I know I have had them in Chinese restaurants. I will check my Chinese cookbooks and see if there are any recipes. You might check at epicurious.com too. Sorry about your uncle. How old is he?

Diane Sue, I hope the tornadoes I saw predicted for Oklahoma are nowhere near you. Your grandson would probably enjoy our farm too. The calves are pretty friendly, but we don't give them treats of any kind. I wouldn't rely on Schwan's for sushi--either nigiri or rolls, what you probably had.

Josie, I bet you will love New Orleans. The food there is crazy good. It's still cold here as well. It should warm up later this week though, so I am finally getting a pedicure and hoping to wear some sandals by Wednesday.

Valerie, where will you take the bat to be checked for rabies?

Hi to Caitlin and Judy!

eta: Lori, I forgot to ask what you think Jon will do now? I hope he will beat the hell out of Ramsay and save Rickon..

phpsLQEHq_c2PM.jpg Today I started with Ripped With Hiit Lift it Hit it Back, shoulders, and biceps, abs in place of finishers, adding the final crazy 8 finisher and stretch to the end, 54 minutes, 231 calories. I then did All Out Low Impact Hiit double step cardio mix, 30 minutes 209 calories. I finished off with Combo 1 then abs and stretch from Zero To Sixty. I used 2# for combo 1. I guess that was really the warm up but I did not want to do anymore than that. I have a lot to get done around here since my 15 year old and 5 year old grandchildren will be coming tomorrow night and staying for a week. They both have activities I am going to be running them to along with before and after school.
Total time was 1 hour and 42 minutes, 519 calories. Plus all of the extra time I spent trying to get my Polar Bluetooth heartrate monitor to work right before I gave up and got out my watch and transmitter:mad: I took the time to go downstairs and email Polar to let them know how unhappy I am with their product and them since I sent it in once already and had to pay to mail it. They did nothing. The only thing left in the room that could possibly be interfering would be my television and dvd player. If that were the case then the thing is useless to me.
I got this idea today of maybe taking Hammer Build Up and just part of the segments, like the biceps which is all grouped in a round and the triceps all grouped in a round and the core group. I don't want to do pull ups. If/when I do these again I will use the tubing. I am afraid of hurting my shoulder again.
Lift it Hit it back, shoulders, biceps abs are all from abs#2
1 arm row, 12 reps 35#; 35#; 35#
pull over 12 reps 40#; 40#; 40#
one arm angled row 12 reps 30#; 30#; 30#
abs
rear delt flies 12 reps 15# each hand; 15's; 15's
prone rear delts 5# pair all 3 sets
abs
biceps curls barbell 12 reps 40# all 3 sets
concentration curl one arm 12 reps 22.5# 10reps 20# 2 sets
simultaneous standing hammer curls 12 reps each arm 20#; 20#; 17.5#

Deb, I have never eaten walleye before. Maybe you can look up some nice ways to fix it and add sauces to it? I made a sunshine sauce from Whole 30 cookbook yesterday and had it with vegetables. It would be good on seafood. I used almond butter this time because I did not find Whole 30 Compliant Sunflower butter at Homeland. They suggested that almond butter could be used. Gertie got her brushing down and bath this weekend too. I like to bathe her before it is time to put frontline on and I also thought it might help with my allergies since she likes to lie outside in the sun.

Josie, I have not been to New Orleans either. My husband was there to help with clean up after their disaster. He has been a couple of times and one of the guys he worked with is from there so he got a great tour.

Lynda, the tuna with rice and wasabi and dipped sounds good. My son in law does not give them treats often but when he goes out and calls to get them to move it comes in handy. I think they got more of those nuggets than usual Saturday. They had to pull the wagon out otherwise Kermit the bull would have been gulping them all. They have a baby bull named beef. He is bullied by the other right now since he is a calf. Two of their cows are pregnant right now. This is the second time for Gracie. I remember they had video of her calf when it got up and stood after birth. It is kind of funny seeing the cows come running down the hill bawling. They have some half grown chicks too. They decided to get more chickens and to get the larger hens this time because they were going to use them for eggs. They were going to eat them but apparently they didn't care for it and changed their minds. Micah would probably love your animals too :) We keep having Tornados here in Oklahoma but they seem to be working around us. They are having them right now but it is in the northern part of the state.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was the start of the last week of SB 6 week challenge. Started out with a folderover target (13m) good for the back of the booty, and upper hamstring area then Barre Hiit (27m). Great workout for the morning. This was it for the day as I am usually tired on Monday's. Although I did sleep well last night...must be the fact it was Monday. :(

Deb...I liked the Live Lift it Hiit it Legs workout. Will need to do this this week. I saw your post about internet speed. We have no issues with speed. We upgraded our speed to 150mbps when we decided to get rid of cable and stream only. I used speed test as the recommended and we are averaging 114 mbps at this very moment. This is with several devices going...Bob is watching Netflix and I have my laptop on and I am typing this on my laptop. If you are reading 17 I can see how this would be an issue.

Valerie...glad your leg is healing well. When I used to ride (many years ago) my hands fell a sleep all the time. Hated it and very fustrating. We see bats flying around in the evening all the time but never did we find one hanging out in our umbrella. Good that you took precautions handling it.

Josie....riding in a car is very tiring! Always makes me very lethargic. We love New Orleans! And have been several times. Burbon street is fun but gets old really quick. So much more to N.O. than Burbon Street. Have fun!!!

Lynda...I have not done the Push Pull workout yet. Will check this one out. I do not like sushi at all but my son and husband love it and have it frequently. Yes agree that I hope he will kick ass and get Rickon back. I will cry my heart out if Ramsay hurts him. Rickon seems so innocent.

Diane Sue...great workouts as always. You have never ending energy! Seems like it has been forever since I have done a RWH dvd. How many grandchildren do you have? You may have mentioned this previsously. So nice you have them frequently visit. Enjoy.

Judy... I did the hip opener yesterday and wow what a stretch. Like Valerie, no way could I get my leg in the position SB does. But for the first time I was somewhat respectable.

Hi to Caitlin!

Nobody wants the bat, exposure was not enough to worry about. we thought fish & wildlife might want it because of the white nose disease that just showed up out here. has been a problem in the northeast for a couple years, and the first reported case was here a few weeks ago. bunch of stories in the paper about a bat being found locally by hikers and unfortunately showing the disease. whatever... nobody wants it. I'm not sure who all DH talked to as he left messages several places but the weekend ...no one got back until today. I think the health dept would examine for rabies if it was necessary.

I already raised my handlebars with some rings on the headset. it made little difference. Josie, you're lucky that worked for you. I think it depends on where the nerve runs in your hand. this has always been an issue for me. I used to pad the handlebars with foam before gloves had padding.
we tried to do a hike this morning but it didn't work out and I felt sick and tired. took a long rest this afternoon. not sure if I am getting sick or if it's just an off kind of day.
so funny about that leg position. it seemed weird that lots of people who never did yoga could walk in and sit down , cross legs with their knees literally on the ground. in 10 years I could not get anywhere near. I always "blamed" my hips for not opening outward. there was a whole group of positions I could not begin to get into...my hips just don't move that way! I used to use a block under each knee because it was hard to hold them up

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did 4 DS Chest & Back, a segment of Ab Hits, and SB Bicep & Tricep Target. My shoulder is a little better, but I'm still feeling some soreness and restriction with certain movements. I'm using very light weight on my shoulder and tricep work until it settles down.

Deb-it was cold here this weekend too. It is supposed to warm up a little this week, but then back in the 50's for the weekend :(

Josie-I used to get lots of bruises from my bikes when I rode outside too. Have fun in New Orleans!

Lynda-I haven't had Sushi since I've lived in Michigan. I used to go to a Japanese restaurant in Iowa and I really liked it. The wasabi sauce is very good.

Diane Sue-That is too bad about your Polar HRM. I would be upset too. I know how frustrating it is when something like that doesn't work.
I hope the tornadoes stay away from your part of Oklahoma.

Lori-I printed out the SB Challenge. I think I will follow it for the rest of the week. I love that hip opener! I can't get my leg in that position either but it's such a good stretch, just going as far as I can.

Lynda-I haven't had any luck raising my handlebars either.
I hope you aren't getting sick.

Hi to Caitlin!

Judy

Valerie, that is good that the exposure to the bat was not enough to worry about. What are you going to do with it? I get numb fingers when I am riding on the spin bike. I just always thought it had something to do with my arthritis. I sit upright and shake them out. You can't do that on a mountain bike though.

Lori, I have 8 grandchildren. I did RWH so much for awhile I kind of got tired of it. I feel the same way about X Train. I probably won't stay with it real long.

Judy, they just had a tornado hit in the northern parts of the state this afternoon. It was wild looking when the storm chasers were filming . I told the Polar people that I had several Polar devices and I am thinking I need to start looking at something else. For some reason the FT60 is working okay, other than the low calorie burns it gives. Every once in awhile it goes nuts too. I am using one of my first transmitters with it, maybe that is why it is working. I do not have good luck with the newer ones that I have from Polar. I don't think it is the watch that is the problem either. I think it is the transmitters. When I use the FT60 with the Bluetooth paired it goes crazy tthe same way it does with the app.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did a treadmill workout. A little break from the Live workouts.

Josie, wow New Orleans, that sounds like fun! I have never been either but have wanted to go there. :).

Lynda, I liked Live Push Pull a lot too. Thanks for the reminder about Epicurious.com, I will check over there for cheek recipes. My uncle just turned 85.

Diane Sue, what is the Sunshine sauce? Anything that makes me eat more vegetables! I have almond butter in the house, I use it all the time instead of peanut butter. What do they do with the cattle? just use/sell the milk? That Polar experience has to be frustrating! I am back to using my first original, hard chest band and it works well!

Judy, I did that Hip Opener yesterday after the treadmill....it was pretty tough. I can do the pigeon pose, but cannot sit with my legs crossed...I can hardly get one foot on the other leg...I guess I need that stretch more than I knew. Good that you are going light with your shoulder work.

Lori, nice job with the SB challenge! What will you do next? I still can't figure how my internet speed can be so bad, when I stream from my iPad and Prime, and yesterday I did the Hip Opener with using Chromecast and YouTube and it worked fine. I will try using the lower quality version next time and see what that does, and if still a problem look into upping our speed. I replied to their response, the tool only goes to 100 mbps so how does anyone get higher readings?

Valerie, we must have the same hip structure....but I know when I was younger, I could do the Lotus pose easily, and now...no way...when Cathe does that in her cool down stretches, I just keep my legs out in front of me.

A workout, then back in the attic for as long as I can stand the dust. It is supposed to be in the 60's today and sunny so I want to spend some time in the yard as well. Also need to watch The GW finale....that way we can "talk about" it here.

Take care,

I never ever could do anything approaching lotus. my knees stay high when I sit cross legged, which I can still do fine, for a while. I started going to yoga when I noticed problems sitting like that, and yoga made regular cross legged fine again but anything that required outward hip rotation is completely impossible. My yoga teacher routinely gave me a modifier. no amount of stretching or warming up makes the slightest bit of difference, joint does not go that direction. when I sit or lie with my legs in front of me, my feet tilt inward rather than outward. I'm forgetting what that's called, but it was funny in yoga to see all the feet tilted opposite of mine! think it's how the femur fits in the hip socket. we are all hung together differently! that pose... crane..I can do it somewhat, but need to be careful of a hamstring cramp.

I have no issues with the spin bike with numbness, almost exclusively the road bike. I don't wear gloves, but sit upright or lean on my forearms. Judy, when you do those long indoor spins, is it an issue?

I've never had sushi. probably won't. I don't like the ingredients even cooked. raw?... texture alone would be a no go for me. I might give it a try if I could sample off someone else's plate but never happens.

My leg gash is a series of small cuts from the teeth on the sprocket. there were one or two deeper ones. most were superficial. it's looking a lot better but will be a problem shaving my legs for a while yet.

I haven't had any issues using my spin bike either. I have aerobars on the spin bike so I'm not putting much pressure on my hands. I also sit up and don't always have my hands on the bar.
