Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/6

Deb, I am still sore today too. I put a pillow under my knees last night. I really do not get the soreness and pain. I only danced a couple of the slow dances at the wedding. I am not much of a dancer. For some reason my knee opposite the hurting hip started hurting. I need to get this healed soon as we were supposed to go on a mental health walk next month.
Kylee is so adorable, I am sure she loved the attention for quite awhile. It would be a bit overwhelming having so many people at once though.

Lori, it looks like youhave a good plan ahead. It was funny when I came home and viewed the pictures and had used the burst button, i caught the bride and groom talking and expressions on faces was quite funny as she stuck her tongue out at him lol.

Great pics... what can be better than happy dog pictures and happy bride and groom pics? fantastic!

Deb thanks for the Kind bar pics. I have not seen that one. it's a different shape than the usual Kind bars. there are so(!) many types and flavors, I don't think any one store has everything. I'd try those in a heartbeat. I get the regular dark chocolate/nut Kind bars at Costco. my regular grocery has more flavors but only sells them in onesies. one local pharmacy chain is focusing on snack bars, has an entire aisle devoted to all kinds. they had added a whole lot more last time I was in, so maybe I will get lucky.

I didn't do anything yesterday. I don't think the cortisone shot helped my shoulder much this time. absolutely no discomfort until I raise my arm in certain positions, and then the joint doesn't hurt but the muscle is unhappy. I will do my best at work arounds for a while.
today we are getting the chimney/ wood stove cleaned for the year, I'm getting my hair done. my "hair lady" is retiring. this will be traumatic. also need to talk to niece mid day, that is always a long phone session. so hopefully will get in a workout later.

Today I did High Reps Upper Body only premix. That was 43 minutes and 146 calories burned. Average heart rate was 104 and maximum heart rate was 149. My knee is better but I don’t want to rush anything.

Diane Sue, those pictures of your granddaughter are beautiful. She was such a lovely bride. I used a pillow under my knees too to get some relief. I wore 2 1/2 inch heels Sunday which was probably not a good idea.

Deb, nice pictures from the stress relief day. It’s best to rest the body when we need it.

Valerie, I agree that we often try to compensate for a muscle injury by moving a little differently which can cause another problem. I noticed that yesterday when I felt some tightness in my calves.

Hello to Lori and Judy. Stay healthy everyone!

Today I just did Sarah Beth Yoga on youtube 31 minutes for low back and sciatica, 62 calories. I took my husband's range rover in to the shop so now I am back I am not really wanting to do a workout. I will take the day off. That yoga really helps a lot. I feel much better than I did when I got up this morning. I have used this one several times. I can tell a difference in my tightness because the right side in down dog I cannot get my foot flat on the floor like I used to be able to do. I thought it was funny when I left the brides dressing room for a bit and went back they were all sitting around playing Apples to Apples. That is what the green things in my granddaughter's lap or cards :) I am sure the actually wedding shots are going to be beautiful. It was done in navy and yellow with sunflowers.

Valerie, I saw those kind bars at Walmart. Usually when the bar says oats I think it is going to be more like a soft cookie, which is not something I care for. I love the dark coffee mocha flavored kind bars. My daughter had an appointment with her stylist for the week before the wedding to get her color and cut, the stylist just quit with no forewarning. She was terribly upset, since she has followed the stylist around for years. Also, last time she tried color specialist when her stylist was not available, she came home with a bleached out yellow mess and when complained they had her come back and do a toner. Fortunately she found someone she knew that loved theirs and got her in quickly. I gave up on keeping a stylist. They all seem to be going to nursing school or something and planning a future doing something else, or they leave much like my daughter's did.

Carolyn, I wore some white heels last night with my pink dress and I am betting they did not help my hip or my knee. I had contemplated maybe just doing arms, but I will wait. Maybe tomorrow. Everything feels pretty good in the shoulder and neck area right now. I was reading on the Egoscue method about how sometimes how we carry ourselves or our posture affects us and can cause problems. He mentioned a man wondering why his shoulder turned wrong and as he watched the guy stand and talk, he pointed out that he was standing putting his weight on one leg which caused a turn in shoulder which caused the body to develope that alignment. I have seen Dr Axe mention this method and Zuzka light took some training in it. Now I have been reading some of their learning segments and there are some video explanations too. I catch myself doing the weight on one foot. I also have a problem keeping my shoulders from tilting. It takes practice and I forget and let my guard down.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Body Beast Bulk Back & Jessica Smith Healthy Back. It was colder today, only in the 40's, and it rained all day.

Deb-Yes, Boot Camp is on the DVD with Muscle Endurance. I've been taking 3 mg of melatonin. It's kind of hit or miss with me. Sometimes melatonin helps and other times it doesn't seem to do anything. I love the photos from the stress relief day! Kylee looks so sweet!

Diane Sue-The wedding photos are beautiful! Thank you for sharing them! I'm glad the yoga helped.

Carolyn-Nice job with the High Reps premix! I'm glad your knee is better.

Hi to Lori & Valerie!

Judy

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I may start back tomorrow, depending on how my hip/left side of back feels. I wish I knew what I did to it.

Diane Sue, I hope your knee/hip are better. Mine seemed to start after the 4 hours in the car last Sunday, maybe the seat was not adjusted correctly, however at the time it did not feel uncomfortable. I tried to view that yoga video that you mentioned, but it would not play without downloading something? The Oat Kind bar is crunchy. I don't like the soft ones either.

Valerie, yes, these Kind bars are more of a square, than a long rectangle. I think its the boxed ones that are that shape? My cousin has a rotator cuff issue with her shoulder, and it hurts when she lifts her arm. She has had 2 surgeries on one of them, now the other is doing the same thing. Have you had an MRI? Yes, having to find a new hair stylist is awful, especially when you have someone you like and trust.

Carolyn, I need to try the pillow under the knees thing too! Are you better? I wonder what is happening to us all of a sudden?

Judy, we had the same weather Thursday, but yesterday it was sunny, even though it was only 40. I will try the 3 mg of melatonin. I found the same thing as you when I used to take it,....sometimes it helped, but mostly it didn't. I went back to putting a drop of lavender oil on my wrists and slept better last night.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Deb because of the pacemaker I can’t get an MRI. I need different imaging that is not as good. Since I did not have any kind of injury I will not do anything right away. I will try physical therapy first. Seems like we all all the walking wounded right now. ETA a few yrs ago I developed what's called impingement syndrome. probably back again. PT that I used before is coming back out of the file. if its not better soon, I will sign up for a PT redo when we get back from vacation.

Deb here is the one I did yesterday I think. My notebook is upstairs. There are 3 that I really like. I just go to youtube and Sarah Beth Yoga. It is free. I subscribed to her channel and save the ones I like to my watch list.

I went and looked and yesterdays was this one. If you wantba bit longer, after the feet up the wall moves it goes straight into another all up the wall one.

Deb, thanks on the kind bars with oats. I would probably like those. I am still not certain what caused my problem either. I keep getting some odd soreness like I have really been working my muscles in both legs, which is probably from some sort of compensating. I am trying to better attention to not sitting for long periods which makes my hip hurt, crossing my legs is a bad habit when sitting, and I do tend to put more weight on one leg than the other when standing. I kept catching it while i the kitchen last night.

Valerie, it does seem like a lot of injuries here lately.

This morning I did Piyo strength intervals which is yoga/pilates based moves strength alternated with cardio, pretty low intensity. This was 23 minutes, 147 calories, heart rate average 114, max 141,, 1,192 steps. I then did Kelly Coffey Trim Down Kellys mix using 5 and 8 # dumbbells. I did not do the romanian deadlift upright row, instead I subbed squat and bicep curl for that 1 minute segment, 21 minutes, 129 calories, heart rate average 127, max 153, 876 steps. This was pretty easy for me as the cardio is boxing. I finished off with Sarah Beth Yoga doing the Sciatica Low back plus a bit more from her stuff, 41 minutes, 90 calories. Total today was 85 minutes, 366 calories.

No workout today. I had a meeting this morning and needed to get going by 8:30. I also know that I need to continue to rest my knee. It’s not really painful but more of an occasional twinge and awareness.

Deb, I was thinking yesterday as I posted that we all have some type of injury going on. I guess it’s inevitable when you work out regularly. Lori seems to be the only one who is whole at the moment!

Valerie, I had a shoulder impingement too in 2014. That’s no fun and took forever to heal. I had 6 weeks of PT and a shot. You are smart to be careful and to try therapy again.

Diane Sue, good workout choices for managing the hip pain. I am trying to be mindful of my posture and crossing my legs. That’s a bad habit of mine.

Judy, my knee is better but still needs rest. I am going to do that today and tomorrow and start back with something that is easy on the lower body.

Hello to Lori. Take care everyone.

I went to Sprouts and picked up some things to make a salad recipe that was in a spiralizer cookbook I purchased on Amazon. I am using golden beets because I think trying to spiralize red beets would be really messy. It has arugula and figs in it. I bought turkish figs. I felt good after my workout and yoga this morning, but odd that sitting in the car set off pain in my right glute. It must be the angle of the seat. I felt fine walking around the store and as soon as I sat in the car it hit again. I really think it may be the nerves or sciatica. Hopefully I can get away from this soon.

Carolyn, you are doing well in being mindful of the knee.
