Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/31

Thank you for the commiseration re: Afterburn!
I took everyone's advice and tried something from the LITE series instead: PHA2 -- it was a much better fit for my fitness level, so thank you :)!
Yesterday I did not work out, but I got out in the garden and did some weeding and planting, so I am going to count that as exercise. So far we've got tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, lettuce, sweet potatoes and strawberries in the ground/containers. This weekend I want to get my squash and beans started. Lots of little flower seedlings are germinating too. We have been getting carry out once a week to support our local restaurants, but of course everything comes in styrofoam clamshells, which I understand take 1000s of years to degrade in a landfill. So I have been assuaging my guilt by cutting them apart, punching some holes, and using them to start seedlings.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend -- and if anyone else is in the Midwest, a cool weekend - our heat advisory in Kansas is warning of a heat index of 105 degrees! -- Christina

Today I did Julia Marie Yoga from her 30 day weight loss yoga using two of the sessions. First I did one that was Cardio Flow ab and glute burn which was disappointing. It is a flow that has mountain climbers in between each sequence and ends with some bridges. The other one I have done before and it was reducing neck and shoulder pain which was longer and I have done before. The times posted for these workouts is wrong on both as they were shorter. Total time spent was 48 minutes, Fitbit gave 55 calories. heart rate was 78/124, 84 steps. This is another Amazon Prime yoga series. Free for members.

Christina, nice workout. I love all of the workouts in the lite series. I wish I had somewhere to grow a garden. A lot of my neighbors have been putting tomato plants and peppers in pots along their driveways and in front of their houses. Woods are behind them and I am guessing that is mainly why. I have huge oaks overhanging my small back yard so with direction there is very little time for sun and the water runs off and down the hill.
I live in Oklahoma and it is hot and dry here right now.

Valerie, we had to purchase a new weed eater and blower/ leaf vacuum. I need to get outside and more our back yard and weed eat. It is hot out though. It is getting up in the mid 90's here now. I guess you could say Gertie got training with another dog around as we had Mudd also and then she spent several months with my daughter's dog and Mudd. I often wonder if it would be more helpful at the vet if she had classes around other dogs. She really wants to run at them when she sees them. It worries people, but I am sure she would not do more than want to get them to play. My granddaughter has brought over her pup and Gertie was so excited. They played and played till I think the pup was worn out. The first time the pup was here though, she drove Gertie crazy as she kept biting Gerties legs and jumping on her, hence the pups name is Hopper. He is much better now that he is older though.

Judy, nice workout yesterday. Those shorter Walk Strong 3 workouts are nice for add ons.

Deb, I hope you get your computer problem back to working right. Have you had any more problems with Cathe Live? I need to bring my other laptop down and try to trouble shoot more. It just takes way too long to start up. I have found I don't need to keep shutting down and trying. I just need to wait 30 to 45 minutes for it to get to the log in page. I have had the same problem with getting go onto things on Cathe's forums. Recently I had a day where it would not let me post what I typed.

Carolyn, you got almost double what I got with Rev'd Up Rumble. Funny though as Thursday and Friday suddenly the Fit Bit was working better. As for today, it never does well with yoga workouts. I don't know why I bother with it. I just like something on paper to show for all of that time I spend on it. Abs lower the overall average heart rate all of the time. I have noticed that met values are a bit lower on the workout manager when the abs are added. I prefer to log them separate, but sometimes I just go for the whole workout with abs added on. It just seems by the time you get done with a stretch and abs you have spent enough time to really lower the heart rate. Quite a few of those older workouts were quite long and shorter versions were still pretty long compared to what we have not. I remember doing those really long workouts and adding to them, often spending 2 and a half hours.
When we ate at a local restaurant the waitress said they were giving the employees each 3 days to work in crews of 5 a week till things are opened up more. We haven't been for a couple of weeks so maybe that has changed now.

we need to do the router reset, sometimes pretty often, then its fine for a long time. seems like when we get power outs, we need to reset a lot. it's a special router from the cable co. we have a land line and that needs something different from what you can get at Best Buy.
we mt biked this morning on an old road. it was uphill and kind of rough, but nice because its a new road for us to use. 2 hours to go up and back down. partly shady so will be good in summer and loads of flowers. choke cherries everywhere. only one car on it, and he just looking around. chatted with him for a few minutes and found out about the wash out. we found we'd be able to drive it fairly easily, park higher, and ride up higher when the spring run off settles down. its pretty wild right now and washed out the road.

thought I was making the chicken pot pie tonight but our neighbor invited us for dinner so I'm only making dessert. apple crisp. I love strawberries and wantedto make short cake but these California ones are pretty but not much for flavor.

Christina that sounds like a wonderful garden. we have trouble getting things like tomatoes and eggplant to ripen due to cool temps and shorter season. could not even begin to grow sweet potatoes.
Judy I bet work will feel pretty good again. we have been doing a lot of things from home, but this is our first venture out of the area, and its great to get a change of scenery. my hair salon will be open on the 9th. I cant wait. want to schedule but they're not picking up calls yet.

Deb gardening like that is definitely a workout. especially if you work at it for half the day.

some dogs naturally behave better than others, and seem to socialize with others and play nice. we wanted a pet we could travel with, hike with, who would come, sit and stay on command. very important when hiking to not have your dog run off and get lost or bring back a bear or skunk. so it was for safety too.
