Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/27

I started my day with an early dental appointment but I didn’t want to miss my workout. After I returned I did Low Impact Step which was 37 minutes and 254 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 151.

I am definitely still in the dvd camp. I do a little streaming, but I am not ready to make a big switch.

Deb, great job with Live Move It. I had that problem with my Polar heart rate monitor. I was always having to change the battery and I got tired of doing that. That’s when I switched to the Fitbit and I haven’t regretted it.

Judy, Yin Yoga always feels good afterwards. I like technology, but there are some things that just don’t interest me very much. Streaming and downloading fall into that area, although I’m going to get an extra drive to start with downloads. I have some free downloads available on the Chris Freytag site that I need to take advantage of soon.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that your husband’s vehicle is fixed without too much trouble. I hate it when things don’t work properly. Great job with Fit Tower Bootcamp. I also want to get a bolster for Yin Yoga. It seems easier than trying to get the right pillow(s).

Hello to Valerie and Lori. Have a nice day everyone.

I got my husband's laptop dropped off and it was already seeming better with what the guy did while I was there. He had an appointment to go out to from their store office so said I could probably get it tomorrow. Fingers crossed. My husband needs it. I am getting tired of all of these daily outings. I got through Sprouts with my 7 year old grandson, all kinds of things he wanted to eat purchased, only he won't be here tomorrow :) He chose a lemon Fage yogurt, peaches, cherries, watermelon, pineapple, gummy candy from the bulk bin, and we made chocolate chip cookies. Oh, and I forgot the bananas. I guess my husband and I are going to be eating a lot of fruit this weekend.

Judy, yes, I thought the capsules had some good supplements combined in it for joints. I feel much better right now. I picked up some more Ancient Nutrition Dr Axe collagen powder at Sprouts today. They are getting quite a lot of the stuff from Dr Axe site as well as from Bullet Proof and Primal Kitchen products. They had some pouches and tubs of Primal Kitchen collagen protein that I had not seen before. I tried to find some NEM natural eggshell membrane collagen protein. I was reading that was a great one at around 500 mg dosage for joint pain. I saw it on Amazon, but did not find it with a quick walk through Sprouts. I didn't want to make my grandson have to stand around in there after he was so good at the computer place. I will look around later. I think NEM is either V or X on the different types of Collagen. There is some in the Dr Axe Multi Collagen, but I am thinking maybe I should get away from the fish cartilage collagen. It can actually cause pain if you get too much, something about too much calcium. I have read this in a couple of places, just not as to which type specifically.

Valerie, I have thought about the cost of streaming and it probably brings in more money as there is not mailing and packaging and once signed up the people may stay awhile. It could be a losing thing though after awhile if people want to move from one instructor to another and drop out. I would guess it would mean keeping up new stuff to attract people to the website. I would be skipping around a lot. I get too tired of just one instructor and I am not paying out the cost of or more than the cost of cable tv for workouts. I get the Directv now streaming because it is cheaper than cable and I can cancel it anytime I want. I do that for my husband along with Netflix. I hardly watch anything and don't care that much. I have tried some streaming workouts with Cathe and I just prefer pulling out my already done before workouts. I would rather buy the dvds , but to be safe I order the downloads as well. ALthough playing the downloads is a bit of an issue as my laptop will only do it with itunes and I don't use apple devices anymore except the old ones the kids play with. I was able to put them on an external drive but have not tried that with the smart tv upstairs.

Good morning ladies,

This morning was a SB leg target plus home interval workout 2 using the spin bike. I enjoyed it with the bike. Time was 45 mins. I do not have the calories for today.

I had another great nights sleep. Must be because I am working so hard I come home and I am wiped. I am still happy with the sleep though!

Diane Sue...That is great it was only a hose. You must be relieved. Funny you had similar stopping points with the YogaX. I too thought it was boring and 45 mins was all I could take. They changed to more balance I think at that point so it was easy to stop.

Judy...I had no idea it was in 1990. I always remembered it. I am very patriotic and have an american flag somewhere in pretty much every room of our home. The american flag is the only flag hung at our front foor. I just ordered a very large wooden flag to hang on the wall in our stone patio.

Valerie... I too feel bad for all the castmembers and writers that are losing out because of this. We all know how I feel about streaming! I do not want downloads to go away. If they did, then I would not be happy. I create a ton of workouts from my dvds and downloads. I have not tried Hulu. Hearing more and more about it though.

Deb...I liked Move it. It was fun. I watched the clip of today’s workout and hope to do it this weekend. Not thrilled about the burbees. I may alternate between standard and standing burbees. We will see how I feel. That is odd about your polar. Perhaps you are right and it is the battery?

Carolyn...great you still got a workout in today!

Have a great night all!

Lori-I remember talking about it with my parents so I knew it had to be before 1992, when they were both alive.

Carolyn-I have some downloads from Chris Freytag's site too. I haven't looked at them yet.

Diane Sue-I'm hoping the Hydraplenish helps with my joints. The Rainbow Light magnesium arrives tomorrow. I'm looking forward to trying that too.

Lori, that is great that you had another really good night's sleep. It seems, no matter how exhausted I am that my mind is still going when I get into bed. I wish I could go right to sleep. I do enjoy home Gym Intervals with the bike. I have done it with the Tread Climber as well. I just have to drag a couple of dumbbells downstairs. I have used pairs of kettlebells with it before too.

Judy, the Hydraplenish looks like a good product. I saw it in Sprouts when I was there today. I have used the Rainbow Light Magnesium + quite a lot. I also like the Rainbow Light multi vitamin, but I don't take a multi very often. Usually winter when I need to keep the immune system up and fight viruses.

I did rowing for about 35 min today. pleasant, total body but not that strenuous. kind of middle of the road. I did HR abs and some upper body weights and knee push ups. a couple days ago, when I reached out to shut the truck door, it was windy and I had this odd sensation of something sliding to a different place in the top of my shoulder. it was unpleasant at the time but it feels like some soft tissue ' band 'had been out of place, and slid back to where it should be. the pain in my bicep went down very quickly after. I have no idea what happened but shoulder seems to be working normally again. I am uneasy about saying it is "cured" but it feels more normal

Good morning,

A rest day yesterday.

Valerie, that sounds like a really nice trip for your cousins. Great that you are there and they can get some guidance from you on what to do etc. I can understand the interest in streaming, like the Live workouts that you can't get any other way, but I am with you....I like my DVD's. The biggest reason is that there can be issues with streaming, network down, etc that can throw your workout off. Nothing more frustrating than getting all ready to do a workout, and the network doesn;t cooperate. I saw the request that someone made for a DVD with all the Muscle Meltdowns or something and the AdMin repy. They said that they have tried those in the past and they don't sell that well. My cousin found that in order to get streaming in her basement, she needed to get her internet network "extended". She did that and it works fine now. Great about your shoulder!

Diane Sue, that stinks about your husband's laptop. :(. Strange that they said that there were not threats etc...with those strange things going on, I would have immediately thought it was a virus. Which were the ones that made you sick?

Judy, my Polar watch will go for months with no issues, then one day it does that "zero" thing, just like you and Diane Sue mentioned. Not sure if it was the humidity in the basement or what. I brought the watch upstairs with me, to see if it works better without being down there. I may need to check the battery. I am with you, not ready to switch to all streaming.

Carolyn, kudos to you for getting that workout in, after an appointment. I remember you not liking to do that. I am the same, once I am dressed and out of the house, I pretty much am not going to do a workout afterwards. I do use the FitBit calorie count with each workout, but somehow feel that the Polar is more accurate, and that is the one I record in MFP.

Lori, nice workouts! So good that you are able to sleep that well. I got 6 hours last night, which is a record for me. I think I mentioned before, I gave away the yoga DVD from P90x. Tried it once and hated it. Way too long. I am thinking of doing the 200th workout today. I can't imagine you without streaming! You are the Streaming Queen...LOL...:)

Take care,

Valerie, that would be great if it was a cure for your shoulder.

Deb, it was the Schwartz glucosamine, msm-chondroitin with patented fruitex- B that had some type Ii collagen , hyaluronic, tumeric, ginger etc. In it. The place I took the laptop to said he thought it could be an app causing the problem. He had things looking normal when I left , but was not finished with it as he had an outside appointment to go to. Since it was so odd and sudden we were feeling it was a virus. The technician put a clean up program on it and cleared out hundreds of junk files.

Today I did Amy Ross Hip Hop Walk, 59 minutes (includes 3 trips downstairs to let Gertie out and in) 397 calories, heart rate 141 average, max 175, 6,046 steps, met 6.1. I was surprised because Fit Bit was higher today than Map My Fitness. I then did Yoga Tune Up prehab from the knee hab dvd and Sarah Beth 10 minute gentle yoga, 23 minutes, 51 calories, met 2.1.

Today I did Fit Tower Advanced Legs, Glutes, and Core for 47 minutes and 123 calories burned. After that I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for Core Strength and Flexibility for 33 minutes and 44 calories burned. The yoga was all floor work. Yoga and barre are not great calorie burners, but they have other benefits.

Deb, you are right, I don’t like to work out after I have gone out. That P90X yoga sounds horrible to me! I have learned that all yoga is not the same, but it’s possible to find practices that are not boring.

Valerie, great job with the rower workout. I’m glad that your shoulder feels okay now.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Lori.

Carolyn, yes, yoga is not generally much of a calorie burner, but it definitely has benefits. P90X was my first introduction to yoga :) There are definitely better yoga workouts out there.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was FS Pull. I love this little weight workout. I also did a Bellicon “health bounce”. I call it a health bounce because it is a nice relaxing bounce, nothing intense, with some stretching intervals. It felt great in the morning. It is filmed at a beach so it is very relaxing and about 20 mins. Total times was 50 mins / 302 cal.

Valerie...wow that sounds terrible with your shoulder. Glad everything seems to have settled down. Crazy how in a blink of an eye something can get injured.

Deb...lol! Streaming Queen! I can’t imagine going back to dvd’s. I love that I can hit a couple of clicks with my remote and...bam!!! I have my workout. I especially love it because I switch instructors throughout my workout. Makes it easy to do so. Did you end up doing the 200th workout? This is my plan tomorrow. It looks great. P90x was I think was close to 90 minutes? I could be off a bit. What was he thinking??

Diane Sue...ha! Up and down the stairs for Gertie!! Is that Amy Ross on Youtube or dvd? P90x was my first introduction to yoga also. Probably why I never clicked with it!

Have a great evening all! Hi to Carolyn and Judy!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Cathe 200. 44 minutes, 261 calories. Yikes! this one was tough, but fun. The only thing I wish was that she would slow down the reps. On the cardio exercises sometimes I could only get 8 out of 10 reps in. Also subbed other exercises for the burpees and crab walks. The countdown wasn;t loud enough for Cathe so she added an additional round at the end....NOT NICE! :).

Diane Sue, that's good that it wasn;t a virus. You are lucky that you have someone that you can take the laptop to. Gertie just wanted to be part of your workout. :).

Carolyn, the Jane Adams yoga sounds good....was it a DVD or YouTube?

Lori, nice new avatar Pic! Yes, P90x yoga was 90 minutes. It felt like 8 hours...:).

Hi to Judy & Valerie!

Off to Dunkirk NY for an obedience trial this morning. We need one more leg for her title..wish me luck,

Take care,

Today I did another Ellen Barrett workout, Fusion Flow. This workout is a fusion of yoga, pilates, and a little barre designed to strengthen and stretch. It felt like a dynamic yoga practice but slower moving. It was 46 minutes and 169 calories burned. My average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 146.

Deb, nice job with Live Cathe 200. I would have modified the burpees and crab walks too. Good luck on the trials today. The Jane Adams Gentle Yoga is a dvd with 7 different practices. It’s for beginners or “those in midlife”.

Lori, I like the Push and the Pull workouts from the Fit Split series. I often do a freestyle health bounce on the JumpSport. I don’t usually list it as a workout because it’s just another way for me to keep moving.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Good morning. we did the park drive yesterday with cousin & wife. we had quite a good day for viewing wildlife. lots of bison with calves, many pronghorns, no babies yet. some elk, not too many but enough. a few mountain goats one with a kid. they are "telescope viewing", a long way up the cliffs. we have a spotting scope. binoculars work best for anything close, but for distant cliffs, the scope helps a lot. lots of birds, and flowers and good scenery. cold and windy, showery day but that held down the crowds somewhat. not as frantic as it was just before the memorial day weekend. sad to see all these people sitting in the visitor center looking at their phones when all you needed was a windbreaker, a hat and a little patience to dodge the showers. why would you drive all the way from Kentucky and then sit in the visitor center? we did some short hikes but nothing long or difficult. they went on to Grand Teton NP and will be back here in a couple days for a day and then will fly home.

our house " worked" for this. we can put guests at one side, master is on the other and kitchen/great room in the middle. the living room echo is down enough so we can converse and watch TV without driving each other crazy. they had a big 4WD rental car that worked great for all 4 of us and all our stuff. they left this morning to go see the more touristy things like old faithful , geysers. mudpots.

I will get in a workout yet today. the rower and some weights

Darling pic Lori!!

This morning I did Fit Split Low Impact cardio only timesaver 172 calories, 5.8 met, 27 minutes, heart rate average 128, max 162. I then did yoga tune up knee hab, prehab and knee how segments, 31 minutes, 77 calories. Total time 58 minutes, 249 calories.

Lori, I like your avatar picture. That sounds likeva nice bounce workout. The Amy Hip Hop Walk is a dvd. I always seem to get quite a lot of steps out of it. P90X2 yoga was better sincevhe didnt do half an hour of pretty much the same sequence. Still long at an hour.

Deb, that sounds like a brutal new workout. Maybe next time it will be easier. I bet you were feeling , no way not more , lol. Gertie always wants to join in. Sometimes she is more persistant. She will bring me one toy at a time hoping one will work getting me to play. But sometimes she keeps jumping in front of me abd turning like she wants to go downstairs. I bought her a toothbrush and dog toothpaste. She hates the toothpaste. She sniffs and tries to avoid it. I saw stuff to put in the water to break down plaque, but afraid it would upset her stomach.

Carolyn, nice relaxing sounding workout today. Just right :)

Good evening ladies,

This morning was the 200 Live workout. Wow! What a workout! It moved really fast. I needed to modfy the burpees at the 4th round. I had enough at that point. Also instead of the crab walks I chose to do tricep dips. I still managed a BBS dance afterwards not sure where the strength came from because Cathe did me in! Total time was 59 mins / 529 cal.

Thanks on the avatar. My friend took this picture last August after I colored my hair dark. I had been auburn for 23 years and was looking for a change.

Deb...I thought the same thing!!!! Another round???? This was a really tough workout for me. Crab walks are too much on my shoulders so I do not do them at all and prefer dips. I loved every minute of it though and it will certainly be a favorite of mine. Fingers crossed on her title!!

Carolyn...I love my health bounces. They get things moving. The Push and Pull are no nonsense workouts. Get in and get it done!! :)

Valerie...sounds like a nice ride and visit. I went to see old faithful in 1984 with my mom while visiting my brother. He lived in Rocksprings, Wyoming at the time. We went to Yellowstone and it was such a nice visit.

Diane Sue...I have put up a gate so GiGi can not be in the room I work out. She kept bringing toys to me while I was bouncing. As cute as this sounds not so cute if I jumped on it while on the trampoline!!! She now waits right outside the gate until I am finished. So sweet. :)

Have a great night all!

I did some work outside in back mowing and feeding and tending my roses bushes this afternoon. I needed to get up and move because ai sat and watched the latest Maze Runner with my husband. Better than the last, but I hate zombies. I made the Whole 30 Fast and Easy zucchini basil chicken hash for dinner. I love that recipe and it is fairly easy to put together in a skillet. The first time I made it I thought I would not care for the balsamic vinegar, but it adds a nice flavor to it.

Lori, Gertie has put toys on the rebounder and I have stepped on them. She still tries once in awhile. I keep a mirror in front of me so I can see if she comes up behind me and drops something. I just lean it up against my bookshelves. She knows what scoot means :) She generally picks up on whether I am willing to play or not. My biggest problem is when she wants to sprawl out in the middle of the space where I am working out. She will move if I give her a nudge. I am pretty tolerant most of the time.

I did my 30 min on the rower, increasing the speed a little, then a premix on the upper body workout from ICE. I used 5 lbs only on my rt arm, and 8 or 5 on my left. it seemed so easy but I am not wanting to re visit the injury. it felt like nothing and no difficulty. still I am hesitant because whatever slid back into place could, I suppose, slide out again. the orthopedic guy called it impingement so there is some part that is interfering with another part. I would bet money it has to do with the biceps tendon and where it attaches. I know where I felt the slipping happen. do not think for a second it is a rotator cuff tear, but maybe arthritic changes. who knows? imaging studies will be hard to do and I would not want surgery anyway. weird because shoulder looks and functions fine except for these limited times, and then it self corrects. I assume there is some movement that causes the problem but no clue what it is.

Lori we have been thru Rocksprings, and it is one windy place!. if you look at the web cams and see the crowds for Old faithful, you would reconsider visiting. at least I would. we saw it back in the '80's and were the only people there. those days are gone. even the dead of winter there will be dozens. the burn scars are all bright green now with regrowth. it is very dense pine trees and if you don't know what you are looking at, you would not know there had been big fires. we finally got a new photoshop program on our newer computer so I am going to try again on pics and an avatar.
