Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 5/1

Deb, the intention was to put the pics on icloud, but first to put them... with all our other pics.... on DH's pc. something happened before the pics went anywhere they were supposed to go. I was not even in the room! so not my fault. I think he knows what happened after talking to Apple but they together looked and said they were gone. annoying but it was only one trip not a whole years worth.

Judy I need to get the Led Zeppelin one on my queue. I loved their music. I never caught on to the grunge/Nirvana stuff. in spite of being in Seattle where it was pretty local and intense. I think most people like music they grew up with, and after that it's hard to get to like "new" sounds. I also had little chance to go to concerts. I went a peter, paul and mary one, the only one I ever went to. I lived in Milwaukee, and it seemed "name" groups played Chicago or Madison, and it was hard to get to either place. I also had no money!. somehow, it seemed few of my friends went either. I loved Motown music, and DH being from CA, never heard most of it. the History of the Eagles is on 2 disks. disk 1 is their career until they disbanded, the second disk is supposed to pick up in 1993 after they reunited. we have it in the queue but not immediately.

Caitlin, I think you could probably get the implants removed and replaced with smaller ones but it's not an insignificant surgery. I have a friend who had breast reduction 2x, and then implants, but she got an infection after the last surgery and it probably ended procedures for her. I'll bet that makes running WAY less comfortable as an exercise. no wonder you're slower.

Lynda, my brother probably had an infection in his foot when he went into the hospital. I know he was on antibiotics before and he's not out yet as far as I know. yes, a hospital is the perfect place to pick up really awful drug resistant bacteria! ...or end up on so many courses of antibiotics you end up with c. diff and think you will have diarrhea forever. .
Forgot..we did a 26 mile road ride yesterday. today we did a hike/ snowshoe for 2.5 hours. we thought we would drive closer to the trailhead, but we couldn't so the trail itself was still buried. so less than we planned.

40 lb pullovers? holy crap.. that is heavy. Be careful.

Judy here is a link to the compression sleeves I use. Mine are pink. Looks a bit funny when I am wearing blue. I saw them mentioned on a crossfit site. http://www.amazon.com/Rehband-7751W...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
I have dumbbell bars that can be loaded up with different weight increments and I also have the Bowflex Select Tech weights that go up to 52# for each dumbbell. I like the Bowflex for some things but things that require me to keep my arms in close are a bit uncomfortable since they can be kind of bulky. That is how I get the 17.5 and 22.5 weight increments. My husband had them sent to me with the rolling stand for Christmas when he was out of country on my birthday one year. I have used heavier than that with the barbell in the past but, I don't want to mess up the shoulders some more. I don't always go as far back as Cathe seems to on some of her workouts. Sagi was warning about being careful of going to far back and hurting the neck on one of his Beast workouts.

Lori, I know some people didn't care for Hammer and Chisel but I really liked them. They are pretty much total body workouts. I was getting some nice definition with them and if I had not injured myself while doing them I would have done another rotation but more of my own rotation with them. I have came back before thinking I had posted and it was still waiting. I am glad it stays there now because I used to lose whole posts when I would leave and come back. Then everyone lucks out and gets the condensed version :p I don't mind using the barbell too much but I sometimes sub the dumbbells for things like front squats and plie squats with the bar. It makes my elbows hurt if I use a decent amount of weight.

Deb, some of the my family are addicted to their cell phones. When we have family gatherings you will look around and half the house is looking a their phones. We all joke about it a lot and I think some of them are trying to leave them alone most of the time. I have one granddaughter that is texting or pinning things all of the time. She can sit and watch a movie with us and be glued to her phone. My husband always teases her and asks who" he" is? I have asked her if she ever uses half the pins that she pins. No she doesn't.

Caitlin, doing hear strikes with 2# gloves would be a challenge. Could you get the implants changed out to a smaller size? It probably is costly though. I don't suppose you wanted to go back and tell them they messed up and to fix it.

Lynda, I really liked live legs with weights and barre. I used 10's for most of it but I think I used 15's for deadlifts. I can feel my legs today after hitting a heavier workout. Not in a bad way though.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was SB Upper Body & Core with Band. Was a short workout thankfully because I slept in longer than anticipated. Lunch was a lower body band I created for the ladies and they loved it.

Deb...seems like it has been ages since I used my TM. My son recently asked if he could have it. I think I may give it to him. Which one made your knees sore? I know you mentioned earlier. I would love a live rotation. This week I believe is her 100 live class!

Caitlin...hardstrikes with 2lbs is great!!! That is so terrible about about the size of your implants. Did the place close up? Sounds like it did. You can go smaller but there is a cost involved. I believe not as expensive and recovery time is not as long. A friend of mind had this done and was very happy to reduce.

Lynda...I liked the Leg with Weights and Barre. I'll be doing this one many times. It is so easy to split her Live workouts. Wow! Great concerts. I have only seen the Rolling Stones and that was recently. My husbaand saw Led Zeppelin 3 or 4 times. I am sure there are collectors of vinyl that would love what you have. Yes so many questions with GOT! I read somewhere that if George RR Martin was to do a spinoff it would be based on his book about Dunc. I read it recently it is called "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". Takes place about 100 years before GOT. It was alright. Nothing to write home about. Thursday my son is presenting his Communications Capstone Project. My husband and I are planning to surprise him and attend. He will be so thrilled.

Diane Sue...yes agree you amaze me with the weights you use. For pullovers the most I can do is 20lbs. Would never think of going heavier. I know so many did not care for H&C. But they seem fine to me. I like both the instructors. Seems some had issues with one or the other.

Judy...Phat 2 is great. Awesome Chris' computer is working for the Live workouts. I have my son's old desktop he game me that I leave hooked up to my TV. Works really well.

Valerie..is there really still snow out your way somewhere to snowshoe??? How was your knee? All behind you now? Yes glad it was only 1 trip of pictures your lost. Good that your DH knows what happened so hopefully it will not happen again.

Hi to Josie!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live "You Can Do Anything for a Minute"...one of the best Live workouts, very tough (for me anyway) but fun and it went by fast. In parts Cathe uses a band with handles, I need to get another one because my green one broke and the blue is too tough for me to use. I started cleaning the attic yesterday...ugh...it's a mess from when we got the roof done....I have been putting it off for a long time.

Caitlin, that sounds horrible, like others said, can you have a reduction done?

Lynda, how much barre is there at the end of that workout? I could handle about 10 minutes before falling down. LOL. The workout that got my knees was #66 Cardio Circuit Challenge Express. We have a lot of vinyl too, I would toss them, but John is too sentimental about them. We even have doubles of some, since I had them and he did when we started dating. I like Veep, but it seems kind of repetitive plot wise, same things, she is ignored by the President, she gets embarrassed publicly by someone, her "minions" mess up things..etc. .but I think it is still worth watching.

Judy, concerts were fun, when I was younger! Saw a lot of people...though not big ones like the Stones or The Who, Beatles, but Janis Joplin, Ten Years After, Rod Stewart..

Diane Sue, nice workouts! Yes, 40 pound pullovers is pretty impressive! Do you use a squat rack when you use a BB? When you say that your granddaughter is pinning...do you mean on Pinterest? Or something else?

Judy, that's great that you found that you can use Chris's computer to stream....I thought your issue was your phone, forgot that you had Apple TV. Maybe there is a reset on that, if you decide to go back and try to fix it. I would be upset if I invested in that and could not use for streaming. 25 pound pull overs are pretty impressive too. The highest I have gone is 20/.

Valerie, I thought you lost all of your pictures, but it was only from the one trip...that is not as bad as it could have been. "so many courses of antibiotics you end up with c. diff"....Yep...don't remind me...I hope your brother gets the wake up call with this incident.

Lori, I can't imagine giving away my treadmill...it's my "go to" cardio when nothing else appeals. I did give away my elliptical though...LOL...:). Cardio Circuit Challenge Express was the one....too much impact that I could not modify, so stupidly I did it....paid for it. Did you see the questions over in the Open forum about 21 Day Fix Extreme workouts?

Hi to Josie,
A workout, then a facial at noon with my cousin. (She gave me a gift card for my birthday) then
icon_e_smile.gif
.
agility class tonight....

Take care,

Yes, just pics from our trip last week. annoying as they're the first ones on the new phone but nothing we can't capture again when we return to the same area. Judy thanks for the link to the tutorial. I will see if I can learn something.

the thing is ... the bugs we are dealing with these days are lots tougher to kill than even a few years ago. so it takes more antibiotics, for a longer time, and sometimes in combinations. in the process of killing the pathogen, it kills off normal intestinal flora and allows bugs like c. diff to dominate. hard to get the balance back for many. my cousin struggled with it for a lot longer than you did DEB. he was at the point of getting a poop transplant from his wife.

Judy you are true fans!. I love Led Zeppelin just can't sit still when I hear their music. I found the song dvd on Netflix and stuck it on the queue.
I liked the Beatles and The Who.... but I LOVE Led Zeppelin. Never had an opportunity to see them.

we are working thru Breaking Bad. I love this series, and it's WAY better the second time. we both feel like we sleep walked thru watching it the first time. I wish it had subtitles though, I lose a lot of dialogue because the volume people speak in varies so much. I lose a lot of details when I watch a series spread out over several years.

Lori, the mountains have a lot of snow yet. will take until end of august for it to melt. there are always glaciers and permanent snowfields but most of the seasonal snow is gone by late august. many trailheads are not accessible until mid july. varies by the year. many trails are OK now, and walking in some snow is a part of most trips this time of year. My knee seems to be working fine now. I've slacked off on a lot of the formal therapy exercises, but I am more aware now of using glutes and hams when I do normal activities. I had somehow lost track of that and was pushing mostly with the knee. careful not to do it like that anymore.
I still love our treadmill and elliptical. I use them way more in winter as I do the spin bike. what I've been ignoring is upper body. it's cloudy today so I will be doing an upper body and core workout.

New York State gives us free health insurance, but I don't think breast reduction is covered. My pain specialist, Dr. Taylor, said, even if I did it, the damage to my spine is done. and breast reduction would not correct it. I had a feeling that that was true. If I could afford a chiropractor and deep tissue massage, my back would be fixed in a month. However, I can't afford it because my insurance does not cover a chiropractor. I am very lucky to have Dr. Taylor, and he is very attentive to my needs, and he gives me strong pain killers, which do not even make me high, and I take them before I work out. I just had to buy two new Enell Sports Bras in a size 1, as mine are very stretched out. I ordered one from Necessities, and I managed to find one on Ebay for only 39.00. I can 't figure out whether I will do step or high low. Thank you for letting me post here. I have two 20 pounds dumbells. and I use them for squats.

Diane Sue, the pullovers with forty pounds are incredible.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE RS (47:59) with 1 lb. gloves.

Deb, I really enjoyed the You Can Do..... workout as well. Hmm--my guess is that there is about 15 min. of barre. It's pretty short I think. The first part is very similar to the floor work in GG. The only part that is a real killer for me is when she asks you to press down your knee rhythmically on one leg while the other leg is bent up.

Lori, when I was in grad school, I went to the Stones concert in Chicago, and then flew home to Mpls. to see them the next night. I was more of a Stones fan than Beatles. I used just the 10 lb. dumbbells in that leg workout too, and pulled out a 20 for the deadlifts. My hands are too small to hold 2 10s in one hand.

Valerie, my sons both took guitar lessons and were/are big Led Zeppelin fans. Of course they learned how to play "Stairway to Heaven." I like a lot of the new stuff as well as the old. I have been playing the hip-hop cd for Alexander Hamilton lately and I love Beyonce's new stuff. I think it's great that you can stream BB now on Netflix.

Diane Sue, the heaviest I have done on pullovers is 25#. After I injured my shoulder with STS I am really cautious. I have been enjoying the lighter weights Cathe seems to use in her Live workouts.

Caitlin, I have never been tempted to have breast implants and your story sounds awful. Did you ever return to the surgeon who did this and ask for some help? I don't know what you are taking for pain, but I would be afraid of opioid addiction if that is what you are on. Take care!

Today I did X Train Hard Strikes with the heavy bag tabatas, 60 minutes, 445 calories. I got out early and hit Sprouts Farmers Market. I bought a packet of the Amazing Grass Protein Superfood in Chocolate Peanut butter. I was surprised how good this was. I figured that it would be as nasty tasting as most of the vegan protein powders. My joints have been really achy. I ran out of Collagen UCII and didn't replace it for a few weeks. It sure makes a difference with the arthritis. My fingers quit snapping, knees feel better. I went to McDonalds the other day to get my husband some lunch and my fingers locked up and I had to tip the money into the girls hand and get my hand back in the car to pry my fingers open which hurts. My husband said I shouldn't quit using what works. I always feel the body needs a break from that stuff once in awhile so it doesn't stop working.

Lori, I think sometimes we need the extra sleep more than the workouts. I really would like to et 21 Day Fix Extreme someday. I was not sure about it but after working with Autumn on Hammer and Chisel I put it back in my wish list. I give up things like my treadmill and Bowflex and then sometimes wish I still had them. I have no place for them unless I take up both rooms upstairs :) The treadclimber is in the bedroom so that is why I do not use it that much. I workout in the mornings and my husband is still sleeping most of the time. I had it put there because I thought he might use it too. I did have it in the florida room at first. It is a heavy piece of equipment.

Deb, that workout does move fast. My blue Cathe tubing with the handles broke recently. I never had the green one. Just blue and red. I have a set of 3 B-lines from BeachBody so I just use the pink (15#) or the magenta (20#) instead of the blue. I have the red heavier one of these too. I would like to get the heavier B-lines. No, I do not have a squat rack. Funny, I used to get an 85# dumbbell over my head to put it on my shoulders. Now I would not attempt it. I finally got where I would use the 20# vest and then the barbell. I have backed off of some of the weights that I used to do. Yes, my granddaughter pins on Pinterest all of the time.

Valerie, my daughter had our vinyl and gave them all back except the Beatles. Funny thing is she gave back Paul McCartney and I told my husband I bet she did not even realize that he was a Beatle. That is good that you didn't lose too many pictures.

Caitlin, I do not like pain pills. That stuff always made me feel odd and so tired along with dry mouth. I don't take even Advil if I am achy before a workout because I think it gives me a false sense of feeling better than I really am and that I may push further than I should. I would suggest some caution.

Lynda, I enjoy the lighter weights sometimes. I like to change the workouts up once in awhile so I do not get too used to a particular type of training. My legs are feeling the leg workout I did Monday and my biceps are sore today. I can tell I have not went heavy for awhile.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Cardio Core Circuit. It seemed tougher yesterday for some reason, maybe I was tired. Still a great workout. Some things are harder to modify than others....like the jumping box thing...where you jump forward, then to one side then back etc...I end up doing that one as is, I can't figure out a modification. The facial was wonderful. I would get one every month if it wasn't so expensive.

Valerie, I was pretty lucky when I got C-dif...no thanks to my DR at the time...who did not even recognize it for what it was. I had to take myself to the ER to get a diagnosis and treatment. I read about that "next level of treatment" and shudder to think of it. Glad your knee is better.

Caitlin, wouldn't having the reduction at least stop any further damage to your back/spine? A friend of mine at work had a reduction and she was so much better after.

Lynda, maybe I will put that workout on the "B" list for trying. There are so many I have to do yet. LOL. My phone or whatever did the "freezing" stuttering thing again during yesterday's workout...I think I maybe should do the Power off and on thing right before...My brother, SIL and my friend went to Toronto one time for an outdoor 12 hour concert....that is where we saw Janice Joplin, and a bunch of other popular ones at the time....12 hours of that music....I think of it now and can't imagine going to something like that.

Diane Sue, those markets sound really interesting. The closest thing to that here is our local Co-op...but they don't carry anything like that protein powder. Where do you get that Collagen joint supplement? I really liked the 21 Day Fix workouts, I would think the extreme would be good too. So many workouts to try! What is a B-Line?

Hi to Lori, Judy, & Josie,

John has a colonoscopy this morning. I have to drive him there and back. He can't wait to be done so he can eat, so I assume we will be going out for breakfast right after. :)

Take care,

Garance, Fox, Diane Sue, and all,

I believe Dr. Taylor who said a breast reduction would not mitigate the damage to my spine. I had an MRI< and it showed herniated and bulging discs. Even with the implants, some years ago I was pretty fast in running. If I live with Frank in Catskill, New York, I think I am going to buy a car, and I will join a gym and start running on a treadmill. Treadmills don't bother me at all. Yesterday, I did Rhythmic Step and my upper body with high reps.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Strong Upper Body Express (40 min.). Good and fast!

Deb, I had to get a new tubing awhile ago--blue--but it seems much harder/stiffer than the one I had previously. I had a hard time using it with the you can do anything for a minute workout. Hope John's colonoscopy goes well and you have a great breakfast! I never saw Janis Joplin in person so I am envious. I was in love with her after seeing the film of Monterey Pop. I have all her records and was so sad when she od'd. The last concert I went to was in the 90s--the Allmann Brothers at SPAC. There was enough pot in the air to get high without smoking it. Made me a bit queasy.

Diane Sue, that sounds pretty achy if you can't flex your fingers. 85 lbs.!!! Wow--were you into bodybuilding at one time?

Caitlin, Rhythmic Step was once my favorite step workout. I did it A LOT! Maybe yoga or classical stretch would be better for you if you have that many issues with your spine.

Hi, Garance, I could do yoga until I am blue in the face, and it does not help. I am lucky to have Dr. Taylor, and I have to give me a very good review again online. I did Christi Taylor hi low, mostly low impact, and my heart rate never went anywhere. I was pressed for time, so I used Muscle Max for my legs.

Today I did Ripped with Hiit Lift it Hit it Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps with Abs 1 plus the stretch, 51 minutes, 227 calories. I then did 10 minute ab chisel from Hammer and Chisel 10 minutes, 41 calories. I finished off with Tai Cheng Phase 4 neural reboot and sequence 1, 43 minutes 112 calories. Total time was 1 hr 43 minutes, 380 calories.

Chest Shoulders and Triceps weights
flat bench press 12 reps 25's, 22.5's. 20's
push up 15 reps
incline bench press 12 reps 22.5, 22.5, 22.5
triceps push up 15 reps
incline fly 12 reps, 20's, 20's, 20'2
decline push up 15 reps
barbell overhead press/upright row 10/10reps 30#,30#,30#
scarecrows 20 reps 5's#
lateral raise/front raise 10's# lateral raise, 15# dumbbell front raise

Hi Ladies,

My ride on Saturday was great. The hill were easier than I thought because I'm definitely stronger :). I went spinning on Sunday. No workouts on Monday and Tuesday. I took my bike in for a tune up on Monday and had my folks up on Tuesday wit my Dr. She was very pleased with my result.

Yesterday I went spinning and today it was Bodypump and Karina came over. I will be heading to San Diego tomorrow to do my last long ride of 102 miles and to celebrate my DS 36th birthday on Saturday. I will be needing a pitcher of margaritas ;).

Regarding music, I like it all :).

Valerie, glad that your knee is feeling better.

Caitlin, my DF had a reduction and it worked wonders for her back.

Everyone seems to be doing great with your workouts.

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Deb here is a link to the Collagen I am using http://www.amazon.com/COLLAGEN-PHYT...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
I happened on collagen by accident really. I had purchased some for skin and nails collagen 1 & 3 at Walmart and noticed a difference even though that type is mainly for skin and nails. Then I started looking up information and they started coming out with stuff on some of the Paleo sites recommending a Vital Proteins brand. Anyway the UC II is for joints. I was taking a Norwegian Naturals joint formula that had the UCII collagen along with glucosamine and fish oil. I wanted to get away from the glucosamine since I sometimes have a reaction to it and the fish oil was in my multi vitamin packs so I did not want to overdose on it. That is when I found this one and this one has turmeric and pomegranate in it. I make turmeric milk with coconut milk before bed a lot. Dirty Thirty Extreme is on the Chisel dvd. I have done it once and liked it. It seemed a bit lighter weight version of some of the chisel workouts.

Hi,, Mariposa. Nice work and adding the 100 rep challenge too.

Caitlin, I was thinking that a breast reduction might help some of the discomfort. Not necessarily undo the damage already caused.

Lynda, that workout was perfect for a quick upper body workout that got things done. No, I never really went into bodybuilding. More, just trying to push my limits and see how heavy I could go. I like the look of muscle but I do find a point where if way to big it looks somewhat masculine to me. Even on my small frame I can show quite a lot of definition torso up. My legs stay pretty pathetic and skinny. I am pretty vascular most of the time and sometimes I hate seeing all of the veins. I am sometimes am embarrassed when people make comments. I have cut back on my weights quite a lot. The knee surgeon suggested cross training and lightening up. When I did STS the first time I had the deadlifts up to 110#.

Ended up with a major shopping day yesterday, not really what I'd planned. it was a fair bit of walking and lifting with propane tanks, and Costco. did not get to do the workout I'd planned as it just got too late. so today was a major garden day. we are having a post funeral gathering here next wed and we want our yard to look nice so we are doing double time. It's only 3:30 so I will be doing the upper workout from yesterday and a core one. Tomorrow mt biking as the trails are now open and it's dry enough for them to be fun.

Deb, hope John weathered his procedure well. so good to have it over and done with.

Josie, that is some impressive mileage. I think I have maxed out at about 25-30 miles to a trip. my hands / wrists get so numb I worry about being able to brake toward the end. I stop and shake them out every few miles on the return ride. I'm good for about 15 miles but then it gets quickly worse, requiring more frequent stops. mountain biking doesn't cause issues especially with the hydraulic brakes, plus the position is different and mileage is shorter. not sure why the road bike is such a problem. my legs could go longer without a complaint.

ETA Did the long overdue tricep/bicep plus core workout. did the same weight, haven't lost any ground that way. I don't think I'll get sore at all, it felt pretty easy, so maybe I've been doing enough otherwise. not sure, but need to get back on a regular schedule.

Valerie, it sounds like you are plenty busy so that counts for something :) That nice that you will get out mountain biking.

Deb, I forgot to mention that b-lines are the tubing and handles but, you can remove the handles and place different strengths of tubing in them. The set I got has 3 tubing strengths and two sets of handles.

Good morning & Happy Friday!

No workout yesterday. John's colonoscopy went well, and he doesn't get another for 10 years, the lucky stiff!

Caitlin, do you know which town in the Catskills you would be living in if you move? I find it amazing that people live without a car, but from my recent trip to NYC, I can understand why.

Lynda, yes, the blue tubing is really stiff and hard to use...I can't do much of anything with it. I will have to go to somewhere local and replace my green one. The green was too easy, but I think it was stretched out. When we saw Janis Joplin, she was on the down side of her career...she was actually pretty drunk when we saw her and the singing was awful. Maybe partly because of the venue, but she was screeching a lot. I love the Allman Brothers! I have their "Best" album on my phone's play list and listen to it in the car all the time.

Diane Sue, great workouts! Thanks for the link to the joint supplement, I will go over and scope it out. Wow, deadlifts with 110 pounds....I feel like a wimp using 35. LOL. Never heard of tubing that you can swap out...mmm...interesting.

Valerie, not sure if I missed it, but who will the post funeral gathering be for? I can see how your hands would get stiff after all those miles in a certain position. Maybe something like what Diane Sue uses for joints would help?

Josie, I guess it's the countdown to the ride! How is your friend that was in the accident in Mexico?

Hi to Judy & Lori,

A workout, then haircut/color...anyone have any plans for the weekend?

Take care,
