Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/8

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Crush It Low Impact, 34 minutes, 189 calories.

Judy, did you get snow yesterday? We got a trace, but it actually stayed on the grass overnight. I can't believe we are in April and still seeing snow. It was supposed to warm up into the 40's this week.

Valerie, That sounds like a nice ride. You must be feeling better.

Carolyn, good workouts, and nice stretch. I keep forgetting that there is that stretch from STS. When I see "sculpt" I think that it has weights in the workout.

Diane Sue, I can't imagine a 100 pound bag....good thing it is heavy enough not to bounce back at you! I can understand why it has to be weighted down though. What are "sprawls? I believe I made that Moroccan chicken recipe. I know I would have tried that one because I always go to slow cooker recipes. I don't remember too much about it. We must not have liked it that much, or I would have saved the recipe.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Deb-It snowed here too, but just a trace. North of here, 25 miles or so, they ended up with 4 inches last night. I can't believe we are still seeing snow this far into April either.

Deb, sprawls are a burpee move where you come back up from the burpee and punch the heavy bag. Thanks for your thoughts on the Moroccan chicken. I may change it some or do something else, as long as I dont have to go back to the store. I save recipes if I like them or if it is a book i pencil in yum, or really bad it gets yuk!!

Busy day today. Start with dentist early getting crown to replace the temp I’ve had. Don’t expect any troubles. Then need to get home and get DH to go pick up our taxes. lunch with some old employees. Then swap out snow tires for regular ones at Costco and do the shopping Should still have time for a workout later in the afternoon.
Sprawls sound kind of nasty!

This morning I did Z Cut Power Cardio workouts 9 and 10 with the warm up, 36 minutes, met 5.7, 226 calories, 1,902 steps, avg heart rate 123, max 154. I did a lot more reps at times than she does because she stops and huffs and puffs which sort of annoys me as I want to get through the silly thing ;) I don't know why I don't get a higher heart rate with these. I think because there is abs and floor stuff put in between. She backs off of some of the impact moves that way. I then did Fit Split Mixed Impact cardio skipping the warm up, 25 minutes, heart rate average 133, max 166, 2,199 steps, 166 calories, met 6.0. Total time was 61 minutes, 392 calories.
Z Cut power cardio#9 2 rounds 13 minutes(warm up 7)
20 jump squat leg lift
20 knee hugs (lying on floor)
20 lunge kick ups (jump lunge straight leg kick up)
20 diagonal plank jumps (sort of like moguls)
10 surfers( a burpee coming up into a surfer move jump turn) I have it written as 20 reps but I think it was 10.
Cardio 10 2 rounds
10 competition 180 degree burpees
20 low jacks
20 bicycles( reaching to toes as knees come in)
20 forward back jump lunge
20 side to side plank jump (I used my push up stand rather than flat on my hands)
10 reps jump lunge 1 jump squat

Valerie, it looks like you have a full day. I don't mind the sprawls so much. I feel like I am jumping back up to hit the attacker ;) I also have a couple of other heavy bag workouts where you are on your hands and knees kicking the bag. It is not fun having it come back at you from behind.

Today I did WS3 Cardio Step Jam which was 32 minutes and 225 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 144. After that I did Element Yoga Beginner Level Yoga with Alanna Zabel. I chose the flexibility practice for an additional 23 minutes and 45 calories.

Deb, great job with Live Crush It Low Impact. The STS Extended Stretch is a good yoga like stretch that is short and effective. You might like it since it is so short.

Diane Sue, good work with Z Cuts. I haven’t tried sweet potatoes in the slow cooker and would worry about them getting mushy. I think the cilantro would be a balance to the dates. The North African recipe that I tried has some fresh orange juice in it which seems to balance the dates and keeps it from being sweet. I like the additional spices in the slow cooker recipe. I actually add ras el hanout to my recipe which is a blend of many of those spices with a little heat.

Valerie, you do have a busy day planned. It’s good that you were able to get in a ride yesterday.

Waving hello to Judy and Lori. Have a great day everyone.

Carolyn, I am thinking of adding the sweet potatoes mid cooking time or roast and ad near the end as you use the same marinade for them as the chicken. The chicken is taken out and shredded and added back. I have not tried that seasoning blend.

Got all duties done. crown was no big deal. didn't even need to get numb, hardest part was prying and grinding off the temp crown that didn't want to let go. I am so pleased with this dentist! only managed a short workout, MM chest, and Ice core 1 but better than nothing.
I really liked the sweet potatoes I made for dinner, but the combination of ingredients was overall too soft in texture for us. flavor was fine, but I like more crunch. this was all soft things.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Fit Tower Advanced Total Body, Lower Body Focus premix. 39 minutes, 160 calories. This time is deceiving...it is only a 30 minute premix, but I had to spend a lot of time adjusting the tower bar.

Judy, its supposed to get to the 50's tomorrow...we'll see. :)

Diane Sue, "Yum" & "Yuk"....good short description of recipes that you want to remember. LOL. I never saw a kickbox workout where you are on the floor kicking, but I guess that simulates real life in a way.

Valerie, that is a busy day! Glad all went well with the dental procedure.

Hi to Lori & Carolyn.

Facial today...and agility class later...Not feeling really well right now. I may lie down for a bit after breakfast...

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a 90 minute indoor ride. My legs were really fried from the barlates mat work, so it was an easy, recovery type ride. My legs felt much better afterwards.

Deb-I'm sorry you don't feel well. It's supposed to be in the 50's here today and the 60's tomorrow. A facial sounds good.

Diane Sue-I think I will like Rockout Knockout too.

Lori-Great job with the SB rotation.

Hi to Valerie & Carolyn!

Judy

This morning I did WS3 Upper Body for 35 minutes and 131 calories burned. My average heart rate was 107 and maximum heart rate was 133.

Deb, the FT Lower Body premix is probably good. I hadn’t noticed that one. I hope you feel better. The facial sounds wonderful and will likely help. Enjoy!

Diane Sue, adding the sweet potatoes to your dish later is probably a good idea. I ordered the spice blend from Amazon, but it includes mostly those listed in your recipe along with some chili powder.

Judy, I can see why you needed a ride after that intense mat work. I don’t like mat work at all, but I force myself to do it sometimes.

Valerie, it’s wonderful that you like your new dentist. It can be hard to change healthcare providers.

Hello to Lori. Keep up the good work.

Carolyn, I agree. it is so stressful when you need to change "care" people. this dentist took over our previous dentists practice when he retired. a lot of the staff stayed on too. I like to stay with the same providers if I can. it is so much easier when you feel comfortable with someone.

Deb, hope you feel better as the day goes on.

Diane sue I use a similar coding system for recipes. I hate it when I look at something and am sure I made it before.... but can't remember if it was good or not. I have used star ratings, and also "yuk". I use "so-so" a lot. If I change anything, I write it right on the recipe.

I liked the seasoning on the sweet potatoes. chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder and onion powder. the potatoes roasted separately so I will keep that to use by itself. I didn't like the combo of refried beans, sweet potatoes, and avocado on a soft tortilla. flavor was good but texture was too soft even with a green salad on the side.

This morning I did Kelly Coffey's Plateau Buster both combined workout, 49 minutes, 312 calories, heart rate average 125, max 160, 2,396 steps. This was a good one for boosting the metabolism a bit :) The cable guy came early and spent some time outside, so I was able to get my chicken dish set up in the slow cooker. I am not sure why this is a Fast and Easy recipe. I cut up the onions and dates last night before bed and peeled the sweet potatoes. It still took awhile to clean and get the cilantro ready, the garlic, and the ginger. I suppose maybe some of these items you can find prepared for you somewhere. I don't like most of the things they use out of frozen packages. I read that the things that cook the fastest should go on the top in the slow cooker. I am going to wait till about half way through cooking time to add the sweet potatoes. I still have to shred cauliflower for the rice. I am making jasmine rice for those who do not want cauliflower.

Lori, I am glad you are keeping up with things.

Deb, I can't remember if that Fit Tower Advanced mix has the standing barre type work with the dumbbell twice if I just do that segment twice because I like it. I know on the Legs, glutes and core one the floor mix is done multiple times and it really hits hard. I don't remember which of Cathe's has the sprawls on it. Susan Chung does some of the on the floor kicking the bag in one of her workouts. I also think on the Addiction heavy bag workouts there is some of that. I hope a rest will help you feel better.

Judy, we are supposed to get in the 80's today and then we have some lows this weekend and it will drop to 31 at night. I may pull my roses and flowers in again. They have new buds on them. I found after knee surgery that light cycling really helped my knee feel better.

Carolyn, I had to adjust my seasoning a bit as I did not have enough paprika. I subbed some cayenne pepper for part of it. It smells good. Do you use that spice blend a lot. I have a couple of blends I mixed up for specific recipes and can never remember what they are. I know one was a sausage blend that I really did not care for and tried adding extra sage to it. The other is just an absolute, I don't remember. Maybe a beef rub. I should have labeled the bottles. It took me forever to find Chinese 5 spice blend. I don't use it often, but there is a recipe in Practical Paleo that I purchased it for and I make it occasionally. I guess it is the same with garam marsala. I use it once in a great while. I finally found it at Homeland which I do not go to often. I should have just purchased it on Amazon.

Valerie, I am glad to hear things went well with the crown. It is not an enjoyable event sitting there in the chair while they do all of that. I like some crunch to my food too. I think the Moroccan chicken recipe will not be so bad with the toasted almonds on top for a bit more texture.

Good evening ladies,

Surprisingly, I have done great with my workouts (other than Saturday). I continued on with the SB challenge plus added in a LEKfit bounce that complimented. If it was a leg day for SB then I did the bounce but skipped arm interval to keep with legs only and so on. LEKfit is really growing on me and I will continue a bit with her streaming. I will definetly cancel the new BBS app before it renews again. It is great but the two things that is huge for me are..there is no bounce, plus I like to pick my own workout. The artificial intelligence selects your workout based on your goals and how long you want to workout. It is a great app, just not for me. It’s too bad because I enjoyed the BBS workouts. I have her DVDs and a few Youtube workouts, so I still have plenty and will just stick to them.

Diane Sue...yes all the dogs have to have their immunizations plus tick and flea meds. I agree Rockout is a great workout! I can NEVER tell my husband all the cooking you girls do! Do you like the Addiction workouts? I did not click with them.

Judy...I love my heavy bag. Mine is smaller than what Cathe uses. I have the base filled with sand. It is perfect for me, however, when my son used it he wished it was heavier. Below is the one I have. I hit it pretty hard and it is sturdy but I am not as strong a my son or husband. So that is something to think about. You are doing great with Barlates.

Deb...I only use the yoga toes when my foot is bothering me. I put them on in the morning after my workout and will wear them for about 30 to 45 mins while I get ready. They stretch everything nicely for me and my foot usually feels better after a couple times using them. Hope you are feeling better. I love the FT Total Body workout!

Valerie...good the crown is now behind you. Sich a long process from start to finish. I love my dentist but he recently got into fillers and botox and offers it at his practice. His office is beautiful...one side is dentistry the other botox and fillers. He also has been using A LOT on himself. To each is own, so if he is happy the way he looks then the more power to him!

Carolyn...it depends on the mat workout for me. Can’t remember which recent Cathe’s series had the Mat workout. I think I did some of it once and that was it. Never needed to do it again. Yet...I love BBS and SB’s mat workouts. Go figure. Great job pn the WS3 choices!

Have a great evening all.

The Moroccan Chicken ended up being a hit. Everyone really liked it. I would change a couple of things next time though. I do not think it really needed the dates. It was sweet enough with the sweet potatoes. Maybe half the dates? I used half the cinnamon called for. The sweet potatoes were still pretty soft which was disappointing. I put them in for the last half of the cooking time. It was still too long. Next time I will either roast and add them or just put them in the last hour. I wonder if some slow cookers are lower heat or something. Mine was bubbling away on low. I stopped the cooking an hour ahead of the shortest time they said to cook it. They were going back for seconds. I doubled the recipe, so I have some leftovers for myself.

Lori, I just have not been able to get into streaming that much. It always seems to take up time for me to choose and set up and then I like having the workout formats and everything written down so I am pausing while streaming to get that info and hopefully use it again. I am always on the fence when I am thinking about doing a youtube workout. Once in awhile for a change is okay. I am sure eventually I will have no choice. I think some people just get carried away once they get started on the botox and procedures. I don't think they see what other's do when they look in the mirror. I don't think I must like the Addiction workouts a whole lot, I never find myself driven to do one again. They are another of those workouts that seem to do all of the work on one side and then switch sides. I like heavy bag workouts though.

I did total body metabolic today after a busy day otherwise. I have not been doing weights regularly enough.

diane sue, I hardly ever use my slow cooker. it ALWaYS gets thing done WAY faster than expected. I think it runs too hot and everything just boils. mine makes little difference what time is set, it is too hot for cycles. I use it sometimes for beans or soup but most things overcook so you can't go off and leave them, which defeats the reason for having one.

I think most people with access to free cosmetic procedures tend to over do. a little might be good, but a lot is overkill.

Good morning,

Yesterday was a rest day for me. I did get the facial. ( so relaxing!) and went to agility class later on. According to my FitBit, I slept 7 hours and 45 minutes last night! I have not slept that long in years, maybe decades. :).

Judy, a 90 minute indoor ride does not sound like a recovery workout to me!

Carolyn, I just figured out that I did not do the Lower Body premix, but did the upper body one. Duh! I have to look into those spice blends on Amazon, although we must have every spice under the sun when John was so into going to Penzies...he bought something every time. I have a cupboard just dedicated to spices.

Valerie, it's great that you found someone you like to replace your dentist that retired, and especially that it was the same office with the same staff etc. That does not usually happen. When my OB/GYN retired, I went to a new one on the recommendation of the techs at the mammogram clinic, they all went to this one guy, so I tried him. Went once and did not like him at all. Finally found one that a friend at work recommended. Now I know that about 6 others including my SIL go to this same guy. I had a co-worker whose husband was a Buffalo police officer. They get all cosmetic surgery and treatments as part of their contract. She took advantage of it to the point where she was looking strange. People even told her that she was beautiful as she is, she didn't need all that stuff. The lip fillers were the worst. I guess she got the message and moved on to leg vein work.

Diane Sue, that recipe does not sound "fast and easy" ! Glad your family liked it. I don't remember any of Cathe's KB having moves where you went on the ground, but I don't believe I have done all of her KB workouts.

Lori, I don't think I would like an app picking out my workouts. So you can't scroll a list and pick what you want like Cathe Live? I found going on line that there is a newer version of the YogaToes...that seems a lot easier to put on. I don't feel mine are stretching my toes enough, at least mine don't look like any of the pics that are on the sites. .

Take care,

This morning I did WS3 Lower Body which was 36 minutes and 125 calories burned. My average heart rate was 106 and maximum heart rate 138. I then did WS3 Streamline Sculpt for another 17 minutes and 61 calories burned. My heart rate was almost the same with average heart rate of 107 and maximum heart rate of 138.

Deb, that’s great that you were able to get a full nights rest. The facial must have been very relaxing and effective!

Valerie, good job with Total Body Metabolic. I find that my older slow cooker cooks some things faster than the recommended time. It is avocado green so that tells you how old it is! The newer one that I have is much better and heats as expected.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that the chicken dish was a hit with your family. I have to label the spice blends that I make or I will forget what they are too. I have used the ras el hanout in the chicken dish and on a pork tenderloin. It works in any dish where those warm spices like cinnamon, cumin, ginger etc. are used.

Lori, I’m glad that you have been keeping up with your workouts. I wouldn’t like an app choosing my workout either.

Hi to Judy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did Z Cut disc 3 workout's 11 and 12 with the warm up, bonus abs, and cool down. This was 57 minutes (a bit extra for some notes). I have now been through all 6 dvds, 24 workouts + bonus abs and bonus cardio. I have used the abs at least once a week. I want to add the bonus power strength workout to my next weight workout. Heart rate average was 123, max 150, 365 calories, met 5.8, 1,745 steps. I really feel like my heart rate should be higher than it is on these for how hard that I feel I am working. Maybe it is just that I have not been feeling well with these allergies. I cough so hard I have a hard time breathing. Then I tend to try to not breathe too deep as I might set off a coughing attack. I am tired. Winds are blowing and I am having a hard time keeping all of the leaves and seedlings blowing in every time a door is open.
With these workouts even the cardio makes you feel like you wouldn't need that much strength work.
Workout 11 8 minute warm up and 7 minute cool down
3 rounds 14 minutes
5 sets 10 high knees (sometimes I had 12) 2 commando push ups with knee tucks
10 half burpees 2 sets done in between the right and left of the following move
10 side lunge and knee ups (right then the half burpee then left and the half burpee)
20 side lunge jumps
20 pike hops
Workout 12 2 rounds 14 minutes
10 side hops done 10 times w/ competition burpee 10 times
5 mountain climbers 20 times w/flip over kick ups 20 times
10 pike jump, jump up, and side leg lifts
Abs 9 minutes 2 rounds
5 ab splitters V sit touch toes, split reach through, toe tucks
20 elevated plank alternating knee in
20 competition sit up touch toes
20 side plank toe touch 10 right 10 left

Valerie, soups do fine in the slow cooker. Unless chicken is going to be shredded for a dish, I do not generally care for it cooked in the slow cooker. It may be my slow cooker, but I pretty much use it for soups. I have put potatoes in to bake when I had a lot of guests. I prefer a beef roast in the oven rather than feeling like I boiled it n the crock pot. It sure makes it easier though when I have things to do and a dinner for family later in the day though. I am hoping to get an Instapot and that it will do better on cooking. Plus I can steam and sterilize things with it.

Deb, I think that that move may have been on the MMA workouts as a bonus heavy bag workout. That is different that they would have cosmetic surgery on their contract for the police. They sure do not have anything like that here. That stuff comes out of pocket unless it is for something like cancer or an injury.
