Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/3

diane sue I think there's almost a cottage industry growig up around the extra "needs" these new washers generate. all kinds of special cleaners and boosters , things to clean the wash machine itself, the door seals and on and on. yes, we have a washer and dryer that we replaced belts and seals on. both of them. cleaned the insides out in the process. amazing all the crud that builds up inside the empty box! Not sure that will work another time though. I have read many places about people pulling things out of the washer at the end of the cycle and them not even being wet, much less washed. and now steam hook ups to the dryers so another place for things to disconnect.

Judy hope he heals quickly. hard to judge sometimes when it's too much. my kitty a little guy...weighs only 8.5 lbs. he's not skinny, just a small cat. he was so friendly with out guests yesterday. first I couldn't find him outside but then he showed up right in front of me and proceeded to be charming and friendly, winding around everyone's legs and talking to them. he's a very talkative guy.

Josie, you are so right... sometimes you are wasting your breath and best to save the energy. I would love to ride smelling orange and lemon blossoms. Best of luck to your friend... hope she has an uneventful recovery and can stand soon.

OH my yes, cold weather and snow sounds like another planet now. sorry you are dealing with this.

Valerie, my blue drier we got from Sears when we bought the second front loader that hd all the problems has the steam option and we have never had a problem with it. We bought it 8 years ago. I use the steam touch up cycle when the clothes sit in the drier and get wrinkled. t is sort of silly though because I used to just throw a damp washcloth in and it did the same thing. It requires a Y hook up off of the water line that goes to the washer. No problems but it is not a necessity and to me the more extras the more chance of troubles.

Lorie, I would like the spreadsheet. I think my email is on my profile. If not I can give it to you. Thanks :) Yes it is convenient being able to return things to Home Depot. I picked up two buckets of the wall texture and we ended up only needing one.

Good morning,

Valerie, it is up to you, of course, but the top loader sounds more like a safe bet to me. What I like about mine also is that it automatically does the water level, based on what you put in, so no guessing on whether you need a "full" load or not. John is a "water conserver" with his growing up in California, and he always had the washer on too little water, causing it to have problems washing...now he doesn't have the option on levels. :). The one I have also has a "bulky" load option, which I like for our couch covers etc. I can't believe your brother does that! Does he know your sister blew him in?

Josie, I bet that ride through those groves was amazing. I hope your neck etc feels better after a rest. That is so good that you got to see your friend....she was really lucky, hope she is fully recovered soon.

Lynda, thanks for the info on Amazon and Showtime.....why don't they send emails on this to Prime subscribers? I never get any info from them, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't know any of this. :( Good suggestion on the body bar workout, maybe I will do half one day and if I can find where I left off, do the other half. With the Chromecast, this is not an easy thing to do....

Diane Sue, maybe you need to do a complete rest from working out? Could it be something you did for the kitchen remodel that you don't remember doing? Why would Cathe have overhead presses on a Live Leg Blast workout? strange. I would think the coffee from this place would be pretty fresh, since they roast their own, and it is not hard to come up with $50 so you get free shipping! :).

Judy, I hope you get the streaming fixed....did you contact Cathe tech people? I hope Chris' shoulder gets better, taking the 2 weeks off is a smart idea.

Lori, no, have not done the first Phat....have it on the list. Thanks for the updated list BTW! I like that it is in "most recent" order and I only have to print the first page or 2. I had to brush about 8 inches of snow off my car yesterday. I never had to brush the whole winter, it was in the garage all the time, but because of the "nice" weather, I took the Saab out of storage early, and it is now in my car's spot in the garage. It figures right? LOL.

Meeting my friend from work for lunch today, getting all the dirt and updates! :)

Take care,

diane sue, Deb brings up a good point. How long has it been since you took a real rest, like a whole week? IMO regular rest is as important as working out. I'm also involved in remodel/home improvement projects. and gardening. when we work hard, that's my workout. My thought about steam for the dryer was, "something else to go wrong or leak". seemed like every one we looked at had steam for the washer and the dryer.

I did x train bi's and tris, and core one yesterday.

Deb, I have no idea if he figured out sister "ratted him out." I didn't know a state agency could intervene. (every state is different) I don't think he's "evil" but he is an opportunist,at minimum. I know he did handy- man kind of things for this woman for years. I never heard details but she ended up having some sort of health event where she was hospitalized. then he started getting more involved and using her car. my understanding is my sister gave the agency the woman's name and address. they contacted out of town family not involved previously. so this woman needed help for a long time, her family wasn't around for whatever reason, and it morphed from there. Everything I get is at best heresay.

we will mt bike this morning. Cable people coming this afternoon to figure out why we keep losing our signal for phone/internet for no reason.

I should say I'm appliance oriented right now is we may build a vacation home this year. I need to review appliances for it and also replacing ones here that are lasting longer than expected. not complaining!. I want this researched and decided ahead of time, at least for brand and type.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE Metabolic (47:53).

Lori, I would love a copy of the new spreadsheet. It was only 4 degrees when I got up this morning. I guess this snow will be here for awhile. Ugh! I will have to check out PHAT 2 since both you and Deb like it so much.

Deb, I think I found out about the Showtime offer when I canceled Acorn. I just wasn't using it. We still have cable and Showtime with that, but if we didn't I would certainly want the offer from Amazon. A lot of very good shows on Showtime to take advantage of.

Valerie, my husband knows of a somewhat similar situation involving a woman he used to buy piglets from. She has become very crippled and relies on a 'handyman' to do a lot of the work with her pigs. My husband stopped buying from her because the piglets were underfed and did not seem to thrive, the boars were not neutered and caused a ton of trouble when they 'matured' and she just didn't seem to be responsible anymore for the health of her sows. She bought this guy a new truck and gave him some livestock, but does not seem to realize what he hasn't been doing in the care of her animals. It will probably end up being a case of animal cruelty on the one hand and taking advantage of her on the other.

Judy, I love your kitties' names. It's winter here again as well. Maybe even colder than what you have.

Diane Sue, I wonder too whether you should just take some time off and see if a longer period of rest will be therapeutic. I watched the most recent season of House of Cards and retrospectively it seems premonitory because the convention in it is a contested one with several ballots--similar to what they are predicting for the GOP. I liked this season a bit more because Claire wants to be more than FLOTUS. It is very soap opera though.

Hi to Josie!

Today I did Cathe I Max live, 44 minutes, 387 calories, avg. heart rate 140/ max 168. I then did the abs from live bar and bands followed by some abs on my own and Chisel Abs, 24 minutes, 129 calories. Total time was 68 minutes, calories 515. I also did the extended stretch from STS but did not count that. I did that along with foam rolling and additional stretching. I was using one of my dogs rubber balls for my shoulder but, she came in with the blue one, saw the orange one and took off with it. Not only that, she came back to get the blue one to take downstairs too. I guess I need to get my own ball :p I liked this I max workout. No hard choreography. Really I have not had a difficult time with the choreography of any of the live workouts so far.

Deb, I have had a Maytag Bravo top load washer for the last 3 years and it adjusts the water for the loads too. My daughter has a Sears and when you put the load in and start it, it literally squeals while it is trying to decide the size of load then it stops. I told her I don't think it is supposed to be like that. She said it always did it. I have not done much with the kitchen remodel other than clean up the mess afterward. There was one day at the start I had to help hold onto some of the 2x4 section so it wouldn't fall when my husband released the other end. This is where the lighting was boxed in. Then I had to hold up the sheetrock while he got some of the nails started to keep it up. He tried to be quick so I didn't have to hold it long. I think he is going to have to get someone over to help hold up the plywood that will go over the ceiling to mount the tin ceiling tiles to. He has had grandsons and son in laws helping with some of it. My shoulder felt better yesterday and so far today. I didn't have to take anything for it to sleep last night. I seems odd that I will have days where I wake up and it doesn't hurt and others where it is bad. I must be sleeping weird or something. I was pretty much thinking I was going to have to take some days off Sunday. Oddly, it was spin and yoga those days. Not an intense yoga where you spend endless down dog up dog moves.

Valerie, I hope they get your cable problems fixed. Now that you mention it I have been doing some outside work. I keep trying to keep all of these seedlings cleaned up so they don't track inside. We get all of this stuff through our walkway and we don't have trees in our yard. It bothers my allergies. I transplanted Canalillies and have been doing planter clean up along with painting the gate. I forgot to mention that with the allergies I have been having a terrible hard cough and sneezing which actually makes my rib cage hurt. It probably is not helping the neck area at all.

Lynda, we are just watching the last 3 episodes on Amazon of House of Cards. It seemed Claire had a distant relationship with her mother. I guess they sort of reconciled at the end. I thought the reconciliation was coming earlier and then Claire didn't get the money she wanted and threatened her mother. And this is how I watch television :) At the computer, with my ipad, or busy work. I am not one to sit that many hours.

Ladies, I have been contemplating taking some days off. We really have not went on a vacation or anything in the last two years which is where I generally take time off. I do take off extra days here and there when grandchildren are around. Saturday will be off as I have to get up early to go to take my grandson to soccer practice. Next month I have several days that I will have the 5 year old and 15 year old staying and I will take them to school and pick them up. So I doubt there will be much for workouts. There parents are going on an Alaskan cruise. The closest thing to a vacation comes in July when the whole family is going to stay in a cabin about 4 hours away for a fun time. We used to do that every fourth of July but to reserve the large cabin we had to book later in July.

We did a fairly hard and fast 2.5 hours of mt biking. had to get back for the cable guy at noon. I feel like I could do 2 more hours at the time, but by 3 pm I'm wiped out. He replaced the modem, a rental.... not able to buy one.
I'm so proud of myself. I could never have ridden like today even 6 months ago. getting to be a more and more respectable mt biker. in my mind, anyway.
I dobn't have a problem with people helping older people. it's the motive I guess. my brother seems to like older people but I'm not sure it's for anything other than what he hopes to get. I KNOW he's done this before.... but he seemed concerned that their families were ignoring them. Geez. I don't know how he got like this. we are so very different.

snow? 4degrees? I would not be a happy camper. we aren't "hot" but probably 55 today.

Good morning!

Still pretty cold here, I sure hope it warms up before we go to NYC next week. When I picked the days to go, I thought it was going to be a lot warmer.

Valerie, that was a great ride, and you wanted to do more! :). I am with you on the steam for the dryer feature. What for? If you steam the clothes, and don't get them out right away, what is the difference? I am notorious for leaving clothes in the dryer. Our washer has a 3-beep signal that goes off when it's done. I can hear if from the basement, it's pretty loud. I wish the dryer had that instead. Hopefully the new modem will fix the cable problem. That stinks that you can't buy your own. These cable companies sure are close to, if not what they deem to be monopolies. Why can they get away with this?

Lynda, I searched all over, even Googled it, but no info on the free Showtime offer....:(. That is really bad promotional methods if they are trying to get new sign ups. That lady with the pigs sounds like she had no idea what it would take to do what she was doing, and she "fell" into a scam out of desperation.

Diane Sue, LOL on the dog with the switching out of the ball. Kylee is like that too, if she has a toy, and I pick up a different one, she immediately wants the one I have. If she "steals" Keegan's toy, all I have to do is pick up something else, she drops his to get what I have, and he swoops in and takes his back. I think a good rest for you neck now would help a lot.

Hi to Lori, Josie & Judy,

Today is my "clear liquid" day....good thing black coffee is on the list or I would be napping all day.

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Cardio Boxing with Stability Ball Abs (48 min.).

Deb, if you go to Amazon video and type in a show from Showtime (e.g. Homeland), it will come up and say free with Showtime and offer you the free trial period. I think that will work. The woman with the pigs is very knowledgeable about pigs, but over the years, her rheumatoid arthritis has really made it difficult for her to get around and that's why she hired this guy. He just doesn't do what needs to be done to keep the pigs healthy or to get the piglets vaccinated and the males 'fixed' for sale. I hope your weather is good for the NYC trip. Still snow on the ground here. So tomorrow is your colonoscopy?

Diane Sue, that is funny about the balls. Greta does not want to share.

Valerie, good for you on the mountain biking! 2.5 hours is pretty arduous I would guess for mountain biking.

I am off to get some highlights for my hair again and a trim.

ttfn

Today I did Cathe live Blast, Bands and Barre warm up to the point they pick up weights, 8 minutes, 48 calories. This was for an extended warm up before I did Cathe Live Soaker Cycle, 53 minutes, 528 calories, 12 miles. This was a good name for this workout. It kept my HR up. When I was done my HR monitor had me at 151 Avg and 167 max. I don't think that I have ever kept my HR up that much. I know there were some times it slowed a bit. I switched to the watch and regular transmitter when I started Soaker Cycle because after the warm up I did before it, the Bluetooth transmitter started going bonkers. It had me at 198 HR at the end of the warm up. I think that I do not like that thing. I waste too much time trying to correct it. Calories burned 576, 61 minutes. I finished off with premix #1 of Yoga Relax. but did not include it in the calorie burn. I think I am going to take a few days off. I have a mammogram Friday morning and Saturday I am taking the grandson to soccer, Sunday is generally a rest day and family day. I am on the fence with maybe doing lower tomorrow or resting. I will wait and see how I feel. I have put off the mammogram till my shoulder is good. I usually get the extra digital imaging even though insurance does not cover it. Too much breast cancer and other cancers in the family along with my past uterine cancer.

Valerie, hopefully your brother has at least some part of him that cares about the older people and does not expect something in return. I have a heart for older people but would never expect something from them. They love attention. I met another neighbor lady the other day at the mailbox and she talked a little bit. I think she thought she was bothering me but I kept chatting so she relaxed and chatted with me. She is in her 80s. Much slower moving and with a cane than one of my special friends fro church that I have lunch with. My friend is very active, does the community grief share, volunteers for many things and teaches 7 year old sunday school class. I love her so much. The elderly just seem easier to be around because they are more accepting and not so critical. At least most of them seem to have kind hearts and lots of experience to share.
Nice work on increasing your mountain biking rides. I am done after a spin bike ride for an hour :)

Deb, my washer has a loud beep too. It does have the option to turn it off but I like knowing when the clothes are done so they don't get that sour smell. I wish I could turn off the ring sound when I open the lid. It makes me crazy when everytime I open it to throw something in, I have to hear it. Before we lost our other dog, Mudd, Gertie would collect all the toys. She would drop the toy for another but, she would watch till she could get hold of the one the other dog had. Then she would lay with both and watch Mudd's reaction. Sometimes she would get up and leave them and act like she was done with them for awhile and that was the signal that Mudd could have them. Then she would watch Mudd chew on the bone or whatever it was. I even bought more than one of the same item. It didn't make a difference. Good luck with the clear liquid day.

Lynda, the boxing with the stability ball abs is a good one. Gertie has to share the ball if she wants us to play with her. We make her drop it and let us have it. Sometimes she will try to hold on to it but it doesn't work. She is getting better. She is never allowed to get the upper hand when my husband plays tug of war with her and her rope toy. She brings it to me when I am outside but I won't play with it with her. She can tug hard. Funny thing is, I will fall asleep and wake up and she will have put her ball or toy in my lap.

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday morning was SB Upper Body 5. Just over 30 minutes and wow a great workout. Lots of planks and side planks. It was harder than I anticipated and was pleasantly surprised. In the evening it was x10 step and hi/lo segments. Been feeling like doing this for a while then seeing it mentioned over on VF sealed the deal. I have done the premix that has all 5 and boy what a killer. Need lots of energy for that one. Today is my rest day.

I'll be glad to send you all the excel spread sheet. Been busy at work the past couple of days and need to send it from my laptop. I am always on my IPad when posting here.

Deb...great that you can just add on the first couple of pages. That makes complete sense! I find Cathe does a lot of overhead presses even when it is a leg workout! We got about 5 inches yesterday. It wasn't that much but it was a nasty drive. NYC can be really cold!

Valerie...I agree with you about resting. When I was sick and took all that time off it felt great to get back to weights. If I remember the first real weighted workout I did was Cathe's Live Metabolic and I was quite surprised how heavy I could go. I actually felt really strong. I think that rest did my body some good. Yes a great ride and congrats to you on this accomplishment!!!!!

Lynda...I like the live cardio boxing. Tomorrow 's is cardio boxing with plyo legs. This one sounds pretty good to me. That is such a sad story about the piglets. :(

Dian Sue...hysterical that Gertie came in and took the balls! Very funny. And so cute to put in your lap. Dogs have such personalities don't they! I love the IMAX Dvd's but did not care for the live workout. Can't remember why but do remember not liking it. Does she get off count a couple of times? Maybe that was it. Good luck with your mamo.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Pyramid Lower Body & Muscle Meltdown Biceps. This morning I did KCM Abs & Core:Kelly's Favorite Premix, Muscle Meltdown Chest, & Body Beast Build Shoulders. I still need to troubleshoot the streaming problem. I tried to watch a Live workout this morning and had the same issue, I just didn't want to spend a lot of time working on it today. I'll work on it tomorrow.

Today I got a surprise delivery from Chewy.com. They sent me a little painting of Shadow, based on the photo I took of her in a Chewy.com box. I had posted it on their Facebook page and didn't think anymore about it. I am so impressed with this company. Such a thoughtful thing to do. They really know how to treat customers. I'm attaching the photo and the card they sent with it.

Lori-thanks, I would love to have the spreadsheet too, whenever you get a chance.

Valerie-great mountain biking! that is awesome! I agree about resting being so important. It's really hard for me to take time off but I know it helps me get stronger in the long run.

Lynda-I hope we get some nice spring weather soon!

Diane Sue-that is so cute about Gertie & the balls! Good luck with your mammogram.

Hi to Deb & Josie!

Judy

Lori, I think that I Max live had some mess ups. I think there were some bloopers as she called them. I would be doing fine till they messed up. She loses count sometimes on the workouts and then to make sure she got all the reps in she adds some extra. I don't think that I Max live is as intense as the I Max 2 and 3 dvds. I guess I am out tomorrow. I am not up for plyo legs or ready to do boxing. Some day I will get to do these workouts.

Judy, we keep having problems streaming from VUDU on our television downstairs. Last night we rented Daddy's Home and it kept buffering and we had to keep restarting till I suggested we not use the Roku and just go straight to the tv. After we did that we had no problem so I am guessing our Roku is the problem. I am still using my cell phone or laptop when I workout upstairs. No problem though.
That was nice of Chewy.com to do that. What a nice picture and note. That is the way business should treat customers. :)

we did a snowshoe and a short hike after. I am totally pooped..... but I wanted to only say... Deb, have a good day tomorrow with the scoping. Hope it goes well and that you got thru tomorrow unscathed.
Diane sue mamms are so stressful. I worry myself into a terrible state. Best wishes on a good result.
Judy, that is such a nice gesture.. but that is a gorgeous kitty.

My brother is a strange guy..... I think he does really care about older people and animals but there is this part of him that seeks to try to benefit that always makes me uncomfortable. he loves his pets too but over feeds them, thinking he's doing a good thing and they get T2 diabetes, and he doesn't want to spend money on flea prevention...... crap..... He's crazy, I can't fix him!

we are riding tomorrow, road bikes. this good weather is going to KILL me with kindness.

Good morning,

A tough night last night, I was up 3 times..ugh....can't wait until about noon today. I am starving! Very windy all night, glad I am not flying today.

Lynda, thanks for the tip, I will try that and see if it is offered. I feel sorry for the lady with the pigs, is she alone? No family?

Diane Sue, good to take a few days off, it sounds like you will be pretty busy. Good luck with the mammogram tomorrow. I don't recall any ring sound when I open the lid of the washer....mmmmm...will need to pay more attention next time. Kylee is a toy hoarder too....if she can hold 3 in her mouth to keep them from Keegan she will.

Lori, great workouts, I bet the rest day was nice too. Thanks for keeping the PDF up to date. ..I don't know what I would do without it.

Judy, whew! That was some mix of workouts. :). What happens with the steaming of Live? That is so nice of that company! Maybe they will use your picture on their website! Did you post the pic here with her and the food box?

Valerie, have a good ride today, I am envious of your weather!

Hi Josie,

Take care,

Deb-when I start any of the Live workouts, they run for a couple of seconds then they stop and just sit there. I can view the on demand videos without any problem. I will be troubleshooting today and will contact customer support if I can't get anywhere on my own.

Here is the photo:

Riding shortly. for one day, today, it's going to be 80 degrees! very unseasonal but we will take advantage of it and ride.

When people get old.... it seems they can't always judge when it's too much for them to handle. or they avoid change at all costs. Families being so spread out these days makes it easier for others to take advantage of that. that's too bad about the pig lady.. sounds like she needed to give it up a while ago and the pigs suffer for her inability to do it right. there are always other waiting to capitalize on those weaknesses.

Cable gave us a new modem . it's some kind of special modem to carry land line and internet. supposedly there were a lot of problems after our windstorm so this is the fix. we'll see.

Deb, hope your day goes as well as can be expected. the day of the procedure is a "very sick" day for me. I'm not one who can go out for brunch after!

Watched "Concussion" the other night. I enjoyed it... definitely watchable. makes you wonder about the NFL and what kind of tactics they might resort to.

Hi Ladies,

I did spinning and Karina' workout on Tuesday, spinning on Wednesday and bodypump this morning and Karina will be over at 10.
Tomorrow I plan to do an easy 3 mile run with my friend.

My DF had the skin grafting yesterday and said that it went well. It is now just a matter of time so see if it takes.

Deb, good luck today on the colonoscopy. I always schedule mine early in the morning because I'm so hungry by the time we get to the hospital ;)

Valerie, you are getting our weather. It has been in the low 60's here and some rain is expected for Friday night and Saturday. My group will not be riding until Sunday. I meant to tell you that I make my own tostadas, I buy a dozen corn tortillas and bake them until they are nice and toasty. I set the oven to 350, you do have to keep an eye on the so that they don't burn.

Diane Sue, hope everything comes out ok with the mammogram. Hope that your shoulder is better.

Judy, what a nice gesture from the company. Shadow is adorable.

Lori, glad that you took the time to recuperate and now you are back to normal. I felt great after taking the week off at Easter.

Garance, I have permanent highlights :). They are taking over my whole head.

Josie
