Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/3

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Live Giant Sets (42 min.). I really like this one. It gets the job done.

Deb, I hope your colonoscopy went well and you can now have a good meal. I have never met the woman who raises pigs, but from what Kim says, it doesn't sound like she has any relatives--just an aging dog named Snoop and a lot of rescue pot belly pigs she treats as pets. Kim has just stopped buying from her after too many issues with her piglets, so he doesn't know what her plans are.

Judy, that portrait of Shadow is really lovely. Green eyes! I wonder if they will use that photo you sent in advertisements.

Diane Sue, yes, I really like the cardio boxing with stability ball abs. I just rebooted one of the Apple TVs when it was balking and everything went back to good streaming. I hope your mammogram is fine. Always a bit nerve wracking waiting for the results.

Josie, if your friend needed skin grafts that must have been a terrible wound. So far, I don't really have many gray hairs, but the few I have seem to fade into the blonde highlights. LOL your whole head!

Lori, all the snow melted thank goodness! That SB upper body sounds hard. Side planks are always tough for me.

Valerie, I wondered about whether Concussion was any good. It seemed to disappear pretty quickly from the theaters around here.

A couple seminars for me today--one from a fellow in clinical psych and another from a Princeton English prof. No writing for me today.

Today I decided to go ahead and do legs. I am taking the next f3 days off and we will see Monday. I have my granddaughter 15 here tomorrow to hang out till I take her to the school at 3 because she has no classes, but she works in aftercare for the lower school at 3. It will be fun. I have the mammogram though so she will have to decide if she wants to stay at the house or go along. I did Cathe live All About Legs, 72 minutes, 423 calories. I added a 7 minute stretch from fitness blender, 20 calories since Cathe's was pretty short. 79 min total, 443 calories.
All About legs (I did most of the jumping when possible on the rebounder)
warm up about 14 minutes when they pick up 10# dumbbells and do squat with 1 dumbbell, pop squat, squat overhead press dumbbell each hand, jump forward/back 4 times repeat 3 times (I think 3)
12# dumbells latral walk, 3 sets of plie jacks 16 reps
12# dumbbells static lunge singles low ends and pulses all on the right side then all on the left
Dixie cups
no cup at first 13 reps each side side lunge/crossback, same move but put Dixie cups down and pick up 13 reps each side
forward lunge pick up alternating , ending with a pick up and put down low lunge set
@ 28 min. firewalker loop, plie jacks, turns, forward back jacks
@ 32 min. disc side slide lunge 16 reps right then 16 left
side lunge to crossback all one side then repeat other (some pulses)
@ 37 min. a stretch bresk
disc warrior lunge
@ 40 min. put away weights and discs, keep firewalker loop
Chair or barre
side kick and rapid fire all on one side switch sides and repeat
add firewalker loop, calf pumps, calf raises, single leg calf raises
loop on foot press back then hamstring curls repeat other side
@ 51 minutes remove band barre quads front raise
@ 56 minutes lower quad
59 minutes put away chair or barre
Stability ball
roll outs
hamstring supine
ball squeezes
ball catch
69 minute stretch to 72 min end

Lynda, I have had a mammogram every year for many years so do not worry to much. Other than my background. There was once I had a scare because there was a lump the size of a grape. They did an ultrasound and it ended up being a fibrocystic lump. I have heard others say they really liked

Valerie, it is hard to imagine snow shoes and Mt bike riding. Our weather is spring like right now. Some storms over the next 3 weeks. It has been really dry and they have been fighting fires. Lots on our local news with the fire damage.

Deb, I was thinking about what you were going through today at noon. I hope it is all over and you got something to eat. I guess you are probably later time wise than I am here in OK.

Judy that is a cute picture of Shadow in the box.

Josie my shoulder is much better. I don't know what was up with it Sunday though. Enjoy the run with your friend tomorrow.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was SB sculpting barre. I do not remember the exact name but it's one I love. I use 2lb ankle weights with this one. Tonight I could not wait to come home and do today's Live Cardio Boxing with Plyo legs. It goes by really quick. The first part is the Cardio Boxing then you do some plyo moves, weights, plyo and so on. At 36 minutes we were cooling down. The plyo moves can easily be modified.

Deb...hope all went well today. Because I have diabetes they give me morning appts for tests that need fasting. Hope you are resting comfortably this evening.

Josie...sending prayers to your friend. Skin grafts are tough. So sorry. I love the sound of your frosted look. I am white around my face and that is it. I color and have been for 20 some years now.

Lynda....I am going to need to do Giant Sets this weekend! I have done this several times and love it too. When we go to the Cape I bring my weights and do this one a couple times. It is a hreat weight workout that requires lighter weights. But it works you! The side planks were so hard in SB's workout. Plus you are doing them for 1 minute on each side which feels like 60 minutes. Hope you enjoyed the seminars.

Diane Sue...enjoy your days. I loved All About Legs...if I remember this has a little of everything? Yes I now remember there being some bloopers. I usually do not mind bloopers but with the Imax it just threw me off.

Valerie...oh how I would love 80 degrees right now. Glad you have a new modem.

Judy...Shadow is beautiful. My son has a black cat but gold eyes and her name is Luci after Lucifer because we swear she is the devil! Hope you were able to figure out what is going on with Live.

Have a great night all!

Did our 26 mile road ride today in 2 hrs 15. got close to 80 degrees, 77 or so here. pleasant, and cooler tomorrow. think we will mt bike tomorrow. not "cool".... too warm in the mountains to hike. snow gets unstable and slushy, and not fun to walk in.

Our new modem did not fix the problem. still disconnecting for no reason. not that big an issue but you never know when it will happen.

I'm not that gray yet but it's trending that way. I would be fine with the nice steel gray color but not going to happen here. so far the 6 week color blends in it fine and I don't have "the line" to deal with . not sure how long this will last, but good for now.

Good morning,

The colonoscopy went well I guess, but not sure about the results. I heard one thing, (of course I was semi-awake), John heard another, and the papers they gave us when I left seemed to say something different. I have a call in to the Dr's office to go over it again.

Our next door neighbor passed away Wednesday, she was in a nursing home in Hospice. We will go to the wake tonight. So sad, she was such a sweet lady, was living here when we bought the house.

Judy, that is such a cute picture! I think Chewy's should use it on their site.

Valerie, oh for 80 degrees! or even 70 would be nice. I see that the new modem did not solve your problem. Ours was the actual cable line outside going to a pole or something. It was very frayed and shredded, so that is why we had such a poor signal. You should ask them to check that out. I bet Concussion confirms that sports are all just big business, and the players are just pieces of it.

Josie, good news about your friend. The worse part of the procedure for me is going without coffee in the morning. I had such a headache when I got out of there, Those tostadas must be great, never thought to do that. LOL on your "permanent highlights". :).

Lynda, yes, Giant Sets is one of my favorites too. Blonde hair does hide greys, mine is dark and when I let it go it is awful....a nice tiger stripe done the part...Did you go to the seminars at the college?

Diane Sue, good luck with the mammo today. Thanks for the recap of that Leg workout. I get one every year as well, but now a Pap test every other year....I guess that is the new protocol? My ObGyn said once you reach 60+ they only do them every other year.

Lori, so that Cardio Boxing and Legs is only 36 minutes? A good one for my list. LOL. Cudos to you for being able to do those side planks! I try to do modifications, I wish Cathe would show some for those.

Our next door neighbor passed away Wednesday, she was in a nursing home in Hospice. We will go to the wake tonight. So sad, she was such a sweet lady, was living here when we bought the house.

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb, sometimes I wonder why they even talk to you after! Our doc gives us a printed preliminary report. sometimes they need a tissue report that takes a few days to get processed by the lab. I'm WAY too ditsy to remember anything accurately, so they don't even talk to me. I need a lot of drugs and am basically "toast" for the day. DH is usually pretty coherent, seemingly, but later on remembers very little. so even if you act normal outwardly, you probably aren't. Hope you get clarified results soon so you can relax and move on.

Concussion was decent. the information has come out in bits and pieces over the years indicating repeated head trauma causes serious problems for some people. Sure didn't get support from the NFL! It's not clear why some suffer from it long term and others don't. you can see, though, that the information has spread into other sports like soccer.
although not exactly the same thing, when we started cycling as adults in the 80's , no one wore helmets. it was hard to adjust to one. Even as kids we never wore head protection, and we fell a lot more than adults do. Of course adults ride faster and longer distances so their crashes tend to be worse than a 4 yo tipping over on a tricycle. I cringe now when I see people riding without helmets. getting your head slammed hard enough and often enough can cause damage even with a helmet.
Watched another movie last night Southpaw with jake gyllenhaal. Not awful... but boxing movies don't bring anything new to the table. cliché after cliché. there isn't anything new... smashing each other again and again got tedious.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did Crush It Low Impact Live (34:00). Ahh the brevity of this one is so nice!

Valerie, I think the helmets have caused more problems than they have solved for football players because it's actually encouraged more head butting. It's not just heads, either, but bodies slamming into each other and tackles. The brain gets sloshed around in myriad ways in contact sports. I'm not really into boxing films either. I have heard that Creed was very good though. I might go see Whiskey Turkey Foxtrot this weekend. I enjoy Tina Fey.

Deb, I enjoyed one of the seminars, but the other one was really painful--a professor from Princeton who sounded like a valley girl with all the verbal tics--every other word totally, or like, or really. He's planning on making a book out of his Facebook posts. I thought the whole thing was embarrassing. I have a friend who is celebrating her 90th birthday on Sunday, and I do plan to attend her little celebration on Sunday.

Diane Sue, that looks like a grueling leg workout. I hate roll-ins and always get doms in my hamstrings from doing them. I don't know what happened to our spring here. We had a little taste of it, but then it's gone back to February weather. Glad your shoulder is doing better.

Lori, thanks for the review of Cardio Boxing with plyo legs. Not sure I want anything with serious plyo, but you said it was easy to modify, so maybe.......

Judy, I think they should use the photo too--but then you should also get some royalties. Can you reboot your apple TV and see if that works?

Hi to Josie!

Back from a mt bike ride, 2 1/2 hours. fairly warm again today and the bugs ... gnats... were really nasty some places, but then fine in others. this is not all hard riding...about 8 miles total.... but some hills are significant. I get up all of them (this direction) without stopping. must be 75 degrees again, and kind of warm for riding. I will take this warmth over Feb, but I actually like cooler temps better.

Lynda, is there a term for the rising inflection in speech that makes everything sound like a question? I've heard it referred to as "up talking" but don't know there's a real name.
I heard Creed was good too, but Southpaw satisfied any urge to watch a boxing movie for a while. Sports movies sure get old in a big hurry. I think most professional sports are a very hard way to make a living. so much risk and pressure.

Rest day today. I am tired anyway. I coughed half the night. I woke with neck pain and knee pain ( Thankfully the mammogram was a pretty quick in ad out. The doctors office always calls with the results.

Deb, I have no idea if they said anything about my results or not when I was done with the colonoscopy. My doctors office usually gets results for most of my stuff before I do. The doctors have had to change a lot of the way they do things because of all the new medical regulations and insurance. I didn't get the pneumonia shot last year when the doctor had said to come back in a month so I didn't do the flu and pneumonia at the same time. I mentioned it to the doctor this year and she decided to check the rules on it and now she says they say I need to wait a few years. So weird. I wonder if it is so insurance doesn't have to pay. They had been keeping up with it after I had pneumonia a few years ago.

Valerie, I am sorry the modem isn't working.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was SB Strong Back. This was my only workout. Came home and as really tired.

Deb...let us know about the results. Always the case where one hears one thing and the other something different.
The workout is actually closer to 44 minutes. She starts the cool down at 36 mins. Sorry to hear about your neighbor.

Valerie..I have no desire to see Southpaw. I would like to see Creed though. That stinks the new modem is not working. How fustrating!

Lynda...drives me crazy when someone uses LIKE throughout their conversation. I really notice this. I agree it has been so cold here. I al really looking forward to some the nice weather when ever it decides to make an appearance.

Diane Sue...on no! Waking up to neck and knee pain is not a good way to start the say. Glad you took a rest day.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I spent most of the early day helping my cousin in her new house. She moves in today, I will be dog sitting while the movers are at both houses. She is concerned that her dogs will be either in the way, or able to get away with all doors open etc. The Dr called me at 7:30 am yesterday and explained everything...what a nice guy he is. He said there was a "pocket" that he was not sure had a polyp, so he took a small piece, and sent it to the path/lab. I will get the results in a week or so. If it actually is a polyp, he will have to remove it, but I don't have to do the whole prep/scope thing. He said it will take about 5 minutes. I hope there is some kind of sedative...:(.

Valerie, That sounds like a great ride, except for the gnats! I think after all the Rocky movies, I had enough of boxing, and I think I only saw the first 3 or so.

Lynda, how can someone that speaks like that survive on a seminar circuit? Tturning 90...that's great! I can't do roll-ins with a ball, my hamstrings cramp up while I am doing them....I must be doing something wrong.

Diane Sue, do you think you are getting pneumonia? Good you took a rest day, and tomorrow you are relaxing as well.

Lori, When it's Friday, you should come home, get a glass of something, ( wine or whatever suits you). and relax! I may do that Cardio Boxing/Leg workout this week....there are so many to choose from with Live!

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Take care,

Deb the gnats were annoying, but movement drives them away so bothered us only when we stopped ... a big incentive to keep moving. they were an issue down low in some places. this is a fairly wet area with several big lakes, ponds, lots of streams. the frogs were chirping away and hopefully they eat gnats. when we got to the top where it's open and breezy, bugs were gone. I've gotten to really like riding at the tree farm. it's used mostly by horse people. in drier seasons, more mt bikers. it's not that well known, and isn't that difficult to ride especially when trails are closed. I will never be a great technical rider. going uphill is a lot of work and if I'm stronger on the road, I'll also be stronger on the trails after they open. DH is impressed with how much I've improved. I was really really awful at this at first.

Hmmmm my hamstrings don't cramp doing ball roll ins....I must be doing something right!.

Unless you really love boxing movies, skip Southpaw. I saw several Rocky movies, Cinderella Man, and a few more I can't think of, and there are no surprises here. I may eventually watch Creed but didn't hurry bump it to the top of the queue. the acting is good but there is just so much you can do with boxing stories.

I can't stand it when someone inserts "LIKE" a dozen times per sentence. especially the phrase "I was, like...." fill in anything after. Arrgh! Drives me batty. Anyone speaking in public should not do that.

Rest again today. I took my grandson and his sister to the store with me after soccer. My so and grads on will be back in a little bit to work on the kitchen. No neck pain this morning :)

Deb, no I don't think I have pneumonia. When I had it before it was sudden and I started running a high fever. I just have allergies. Pollen is really up really high. I hope they don't have to remove a polyp. Surely if it is something painful they give you something for it.

Valerie, we have Creed and Southpaw. I have not watched Southpaw. My husband liked it. Creed was okay but a bit disappointing. That's great that you are improving so much on your riding.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the comments on Shadow's photo. That would be great if they used it for advertising.

Yesterday was a rest day and today was an easy day. I did KCM Cardio Quick Fix this afternoon.

Deb-I hope you don't have a polyp.

Valerie-great job with the mountain biking! It's still 30 degrees and snowing here so I'll be riding inside a little longer.

Diane Sue- I have bad pollen allergies too. I take claritin and use nasacort or flonase most of the time.

Lynda-I was able to get Live to work on my MacBook and iPad so the next thing I will do is another reset on the Apple TV and see if that corrects the problem. I hope your friend has a nice birthday celebration tomorrow

Hi to Lori & Josie!
