Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/29

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Valerie, which airline was that? I don't know of any that I flew recently that had an upgrade that was not First Class. I know they have something called Business Class, but maybe that is only one the longer flights.

Carolyn, Muscle Max is a great weight workout.

Diane Sue, good job on the step count. Did you get 10,000 yesterday? I hope your headache is better. It sounds like the same one Carolyn and I get that is caused by weather changes. This week will fly by fast for you with all the activity for the wedding. I wish my dogs liked baths the way Gertie does. Maybe because its a shower and she is not lifted into a utility tub.

Lori, that was strange that they said your subscription was cancelled, then they renewed automatically and charged your CC card. I guess it if is only for another year, that would be ok...but I would still call or find out what happened. I am not sure what you mean by it is going away because of an app?

Hi to Judy,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a barlates lower body & cardio workout. I've been dealing with a slight headache also, weather related I believe. We had thunderstorms almost all day yesterday. Today we have high wind warnings.

Deb-That sounds like a busy day! I bet you and Kylie were ready to go home.

Lori-I would be upset if I cancelled a subscription and it renewed anyway. It's good that you like BBS and since it's going away next year you can enjoy it for one more year.

Carolyn-Great job with Muscle Max! I love that workout too. It was the first Cathe total body DVD I bought. My headaches seem to be weather related too.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about your low back & hip. I hope you feel better today. That's so cute that Gertie jumped in the shower.

Valerie- I like to use a little extra caffeine for something like a longer bike ride or long workout. I hope your doctor appointment went well.

Judy

Deb, I think you are right on the weather changes and headaches. I got 11,035 steps yesterday. Over the last two weeks I have had several 10,000 to 15,000 steps. Some of the older workouts are also helping uping step count. Also, I have been more active and feeling a bit more energetic lately. I am not sure why though. When Gertie was about a year old and I didnt haveva shower for awhile at my daughter, I had to lift her into the tub to bathe her. She had a bit of anxiety over it at first, but adapted. All of mybdogs liked the shower once they were used to it. It is almost like itvis their decision. They seem to like climbing in and getting a rub down. Gertie holds upneach paw for me to shampoo them and scrub between her toes. I cant even say Gertie and bath together or she will head for the shower.

Judy, the funny thing is I had not even said the word bath , I just turned on the water and she was ready. I keep trying to work around this hip and low back thing. I wanted to do back today, but think if I do, deadlifts are out. It sounds like the same headache problems for seversl of us.

This morning I did Low Impact Circuit, 72 minutes, 455 calories, met 5.7,4,260 steps, average heart rate 127, max 176. I then did X Train Burn Sets back with the stretch and skipped the superman burn set, 16 minutes, heart rate average 110, max 135, 79 calories, met 4.5, 446 steps. I finished off with Suzanne Bowen Barre Amped relaxation stretch, 15 minutes, 38 calories, 56 steps (weird on the steps as it is mainly lying or sitting) Total time today was 1 hr 43 minutes, 572 calories. I looked over the moves in the circuit workout and did not see anything that I thought would be a problem.
weights X Train Burn Sets Back
one arm row 3 sets 30 # x 10,10,12 reps
dumbbell rows both 3 sets 20#dbs x 10,10,12 reps
seated rear delt 3 sets 12#dbs x 10,10,12 reps

Today I did ICE Rock ‘m Sock ‘m Kickbox for 48 minutes and 364 calories burned. My average heart rate was 135 and maximum heart rate was 160. I am doing Cathe’s May rotation that is focused on muscle confusion. I’m not strongly committed to it, but I plan to try it for a couple of weeks.

Cathe sent out the email announcement for her new series, the ICE 2 that everyone has been talking about. It will be nice to have another intermediate series.

Diane Sue, you are wise to take it easy on your low back and hip. I hope the stretching helped. I like Low Impact Circuit. That’s one that I used to do often.

Judy, great job with Barlates Lower Body and Cardio.

Lori, I have read of others having difficulty canceling streaming subscriptions on another forum. That would be very annoying to me if I had decided to cancel.

Hello to Deb and Valerie.

we did another xc ski today. one of our old favorite ski roads taken over by snowmobilers. they had not been there since probably last weekend, so Ok today. not a lot of snowmobiles use it but it used to be deserted except for a few skiers. great animal tracks, bear and cub, bobcat. hares. martens or fishers. snow is so good for that! it was 4 hrs 15 min round trip. we use climbing skins to go up, and then ski down without them. there is a lot of pollen on the snow , and the wax on the skis gets completely sticky full of pollen making a weird coating on the ski bottoms. we have to clean them with white gas to get it off. a seasonal thing. spring brings pollen. a really nice day.

Deb, the airline is Alaska. they are based in seattle but have grown substantially. In a duel with Delta for dominance. when we made the reservations online, we saw if we wanted to sit together, the rows with side by side seats left were $60 more per person round trip. it was nice to have more legroom although neither of us need it. drinks were free. boarded right after 1st class and people with kids. I believe it was only 3 rows, like 7,8,and 9. might have been called preferred seating? they didn't call it business class. this was a 737 and we were forward of the engine. it was a 4 hour flight, worth the extra $$. with the crazy fluctuations in seat cost, it seemed reasonable. mostly, we wanted to sit together, and this was what was available. this is the only nonstop from seattle to Milwaukee right now. southwest used to have one but did not right now. I do not like to change planes at O'hare.

I got a cortisone shot in my shoulder yesterday. same spot is acting up again, for reasons I'm not sure about. been 3 yrs since the last one. seems better today but I will do only rehab exercises for a while. some minor rotator cuff issue that I would not try to fix unless it gets a lot worse. I gave it a workout today with all the ski poling up and down and it was better. I have backed off upper workouts for the last few weeks because it was sore and got worse after each one

I am not sure if I am interested in another ICE series. will look see but ambivalent right now. usually have plenty of time to think about it.

we are wartching some new series. one called "Luck" about horse racing and gambling. it was made by the Hollywood producer director david milch who gambled away a fortune in the early 2000's. only one season to it. also a movie called "Mollys Game" similar gambling story. neither one is that good for us. I am not a gambler. all the lingo / strategies/ addictive behavior is tough to follow.
then we also started the one about the OJ Simpson trial. the people vs OJ simpson. Wow! this one is fascinating. so many interesting parts to it. not sure how long it is. really enjoying it. I was working and we were building a house and I never followed more than the basics of the trial.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was an advanced upper by SB then a Lekfit bounce (no intervals). My glutes are still feeling yesterday's workout.

Deb...Yes it is very odd. Body By Simone (BBS) has her BBSTV which I joined a year ago and love. The workouts are posted similar to Cathe where you can pick and choose what you want and she has a collection of bounces in addition to dance and weights. Last month she launched a brand new app thru Itunes. I joined the new app because I loved the old...but realized quickly it was not for me. The new app selects the workout instead of allowing you to do so and has no bounce. I do not like not being able to choose. When this was launched I read she would be cancelling the old (BBSTV) in a year. I am assuming to concentrate on the newer app and allowing paid subscriptions to run out. I am ok with going another year since they are still adding new content. But something is up with BBS because even though I cancelled the new app in Itunes (clearly says expired May 2) I still have access as of today. I see no charges to my cc. Very odd. You all know I am good with technology but I am very bewildered by all this. Makes no sense.

Diane Sue ...that rebounder workout was not for me. I do not like all the on and off jumping. I have some workouts that do but at a slower pace. My bellicon is taller than my jumpsport so I need to go slower. Congrats with the steps!! GiGi loves baths, we started her early in the tub and she knows bath time. We have a seperate shower. Never thought of giving her a shower!

Judy...I thought of you when Carolyn did Muscle Max. :). I do love BBS so not crazy upset. At first I was a little annoyed, but like I said, I got over it really quick knowing I had another year! Hope you get relief from your headache. Been a while since we have had a thunderstorm.

Carolyn...I have not seen Cathe’s anouncement. Will look at it when I finish posting. Thanks for mentioning.

Valerie...so funny to read you went cross country skiing when it was over 80 degrees here today! Hope the shot helps. So far my left shoulder has been great since my last shot. I am extremely careful with my shoulders and constantly doing modifications. Bob and I watched the OJ series and we were glued to the TV.

Have a great night all!

Carolyn, I haven't looked at Cathe's latest rotations. I was glad to see the newer workouts were low impact I will hopefully pre-order eventually. Not sure I want to use paypal again after the last two pre-orders. The stretch felt good in a sort of painful way. I felt better when done. The thing is it is in the low back and right glute area and I am a little worried that is where my other stress fracture was. It has been several years since I had a dexa scan. I didn't even know I had one there till they told me the mid back one was much improved but not the one in my hip area. I am not sure what set off the pain, but I have to be careful. I had not done Low Impact Circuit in a very long time. I looked at the exercises in it and it looked very doable without excess shoulder work and no deadlifts. No burpees!!

Valerie, I wouldn't have thought about pollen getting on the skis. I know it can be quite messy. My grandchildren used to pick up yellow stuff and crush it into powder playing. I hated the mess and it coming inside the house. It sounds like you are wise to take it a bit easy on the shoulder. It is a matter of avoiding what is causing the problem if you can figure it out. I am sure the cortisone shot will make it feel much better.

Lori, maybe they do not have their system all set up right yet. It sounds like their stuff is confused. I don't get why they just didn't keep the one service and upgrade it or something. My problem with the fast jumping on and of is not only the balance and landing, but sometimes I get my toes caught in the skirt over the springs and the last time I did one like that I flipped clear off the side and hit the floor. Now I am extra cautious. The shower is so much easier when they are large dogs. I started doing that when we had our great Dane. I got a handheld shower attachment and it makes it nice for wetting the dogs and rinsing and I can shut off the spray while shampooing.

Lori it's [pretty cool in the mountains yet, but there is tons of snow and it won't be gone until mid to late july. we can ski for a while yet. we are not that talented so only ski roads where the steepness is controlled. we are still wearing winter clothes. it's a terrific low impact workout. I could not do over 4 hours at home, but outside it's different.

diane sue the pollen is from cedars and alders and sits on the snow surface. it is sticky and makes the ski bottoms black and sticky to the touch. it sticks to the skis whether they are waxed or not and makes it hard to ski back down. it can be slippery or sticky and you can get jerked around a lot. takes some strong solvent stuff to clean them off so we just do the best we can. cortisone helped a lot. all the poling today was much better than it would have been. I put an extra insole in the ski boots, so the one that came with the boot, and then a Superfeet insert on top, plus fluffier socks and that took up enough space so I didn't slide all over like 2 days ago. no blisters today.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. Has everyone decided on whether to pre-order the new series? I ordered this morning, with the bonus DVD.

Judy, I hope your headache is better. Mine finally went away after about 36 hours. We had the same high wind warnings yesterday, and it was pretty windy. All our trash totes were blowing around the yard.

Diane Sue, congrats on the step counts! That is so great that Gertie likes her showers. LOL...Mind don't struggle or anything, once they are in the laundry tub. They sure don't want to be there though. I agree, all our headaches seem to be weather related. Oh no....I used Paypal for this pre-order, forgot how much trouble you had before....ugh :(:(

Carolyn, good job on that workout. I haven't looked at the May rotation yet. I don't know how anyone can do it 100%. There are bound to be workouts that people don't have, or that have a dread factor for them.

Valerie, I hope the shot helps your shoulder. I would have paid the extra money for those seats too. Cathe describes this new series as "ICE2" but I think its a lot different. Nice that you found a solution that works for the boots.

Lori, yes, that sounds very confusing about cancelling, but still having access. I guess if you really like the old version and have a year left, it's not that disturbing that they did not cancel.

Take care,

Diane Sue...I just preordered the downloads and used Paypal. Code was sent immediatley. Last year I did not receive the code either but immediatley called and they resent.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Body Beast Bulk Shoulders. I preordered the new series yesterday, with the bonus DVD. I think it sounds great! I love that there is a PHA2 and both upper and lower body strength workouts.

Deb-Thanks. I still have a slight sinus headache this morning but it's not too bad. There was a lot of wind damage here and some power outages but fortunately we didn't lose power.

Diane Sue-I can sympathize with the hip and low back issue :( That's a problem I have had also. I have to be very careful with deadlifts and lunges. I feel like yoga and stretching has helped the most, but I have had long periods when I couldn't do much lower body work because of it.

Carolyn-Great job with Rock'm Sock'm! The May rotation looks like a good one. I agree that it will be nice to have another intermediate series.

Valerie-I hope the cortisone shot helps your shoulder. I was working a lot of hours and had so much going on that I didn't follow the OJ trial at all. I remember getting updates on it from my running partners and co-workers who were following it. It was a huge thing at the time.

Lori-I also preordered the downloads using Paypal and I received the code right away.

Judy

Quick check in and I have to run and will come back later. I did Fit Split Low Impact Lori's version, 26 minutes, heartrate average 129, max 174?, met value 5.9, 169 calories. I then did Tracey Long Core Movements, core warm up, posture, and mobility stretch 22 minutes, 56 calories, heart rate average 98, max 124. 1,853 steps, 48 minutes, 225 calories total.

we plan on a bike ride today. there is a tulip festival nearby that gets national attention. It's lovely but traffic overloads small farm roads. people are not paying attention. we don't ride until the official "festival" is either not started yet, or done with. once it's over they whack the tops off the tulip[s so it can change pretty quickly. It's an area we ride often thru the year and only avoid during the active festival. It didn't used to be such a big deal but someone figured out how to make a lot of money and ruined it for locals. I don't like to bicycle roads when drivers are looking at tulip fields, their kids, dogs, and a dozen other things.

I was very happy with the new ski boots. they are softer than my old ones and easier to walk in. I can't believe how well sticking an extra sole insert worked. lots of people wear 2 pair of socks so maybe this is why the manufacturer made the boots so voluminous. two socks never works for me so this is the perfect solution. we ski as much of the distance as possible but in spring there are melted out areas that need walking and carrying the skis, and softer boots are a real comfort. my shoulder is better but staying clear of weights for a while yet. it must be a minor rotator cuff injury because the joint is fine and moves easily, but when I engage with weight in my hand I get discomfort in the muscle. it was fine with xc poling yesterday, and cycling doesn't bother it either. I had no sharp pain or injury so a while more of leaving it alone and then will start in with some light weighs and ROM and see if its comfortable.

Judy, we were the same way with the OJ trial. I had too much going on to follow the story, so parts of this are very familiar and other parts are not. I never knew where the blasted Kardashians came from, so this alone is enlightening. I think there is more than one season to it. I never would have thought it would be so entertaining. casting is great. it is streaming on either Netflix of amazon prime. DH set it up and not sure.

This morning I did Athletic Training from the Low Impact Series. That was 56 minutes and 322 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 156.

I haven’t preordered the new series yet, but I plan to do so. I like the way it sounds. Cathe seems to be adding in many of the suggestions that people made.

Deb, if I don’t have all of the workouts listed in a rotation I simply sub a similar one. If I want to do five days instead of six, I decide what workout to eliminate. I don’t think that you have to follow the rotation 100% and with so many Live workouts there is always a substitute available.

Judy, I like the type of workouts included in the May rotation. Total body and metabolic or circuit workouts work well for my pear shaped body. It’s good that you have gotten some relief from your low back problems.

Diane Sue, I hope that you don’t have a stress fracture. Is it time for another decade scan? My doctor recommended every two years for me. I have issues with pain in my glutes and hamstrings periodically. I tend to have very tight hip flexors which I am told contributes to that problem. That’s one reason that I try to get in some stretching or yoga.

Valerie, I hope you can get your ride done today. I’m sure it’s annoying to have the festival interfering with your plans.

Hello to Lori. Enjoy the afternoon everyone.

Got our ride done this morning. my bike computer stopped working. it was flickering on and off last time, so we put in a new battery. it may have died. ride is about 22 miles, took about 2 hours 10 min traffic was heavy this morning. and one heck of a headwind! we usually ride early sunday mornings instead for that reason, Saturdays are busier. when the tulip festival is over, they cut the tops off the tulips to keep people from seeing them for 'free". sad to see it get so commercialized. we still didn't ride near the tulip fields.

I need to look at the new series, just not sure. what do you all find so appealing? mainly it's intermediate rather than advanced? I skipped this last series, and it seems to not have been as popular as many others. I've used ICE more than any other, but I have the issue with background music volume that makes me unsure.

I must have really tiocked off my sister. she has called brother and yelled about things, but has not called me yet. not complaining!.

Valerie, I like the type of workouts described for the LiTE series. If you click on the preorder link you can see the descriptions. As for music, who knows. Cathe has discussed elsewhere the changes in the music industry which limits what they can use these days. I have noticed some “old” music on JS and a KCM recent dvds.

Valerie- I like that there is an upper and lower body strength workout, and I love having a new PHA workout. The pyramid pump bonuses sounds really good and there is an extra DVD you can order with all of them on it so you could do them all at once. It sounds like there will be a lower pyramid pump workout too and the bonus DVD will have premixes so you could do upper, lower or a total body workout.

Today was a busy day and my granddaughter's apartment is about 40 minutes away. Her husband to be will have quite a drive to work since it will be in our area. They wanted her nearer the University for law school. We had a luncheon while they loaded things up and then carpooled to the apartment to unload. We unpacked some of the new things she got for the shower, and they put together the bed. My grandaughter got to put the new bedding on. We unpacked kitchen stuff. She got a lot of the Pioneer woman stuff. I like that the cookware set was the ceramic but had a cast iron skillet with it. It was sweet watching the young couple loving each other so much and so excited about setting up what will be their new home :) Listening to all of their plans. I have been having ants coming in an spraying daily. Today they were just swarming and coming out behind my upper kitchen cupboards. I moved everything and sprayed even on the counters before we left. They were still there only worse when I got back. I went and bought some new stuff and sprayed outside and have spent most of the rest of the day spraying, killing and finally cleaning. I pulled things out of cupboards and cleaned, worrying they were in there somewhere, but they were not. I guess it is a forced way of cleaning and organizing. I have never in my life had so many aunts and they just seemed to keep coming. They don't die easily. Tomorrow is my grandson turning 4's birthday. So there will be that.
I want the new dvds and will order them eventually. I have plenty of time.
My hip and low back was really hurting last night and this morning, but after the stretches and loosening up this morning it has improved greatly.

Valerie, I would not want to be around a bunch of cedar pollen. That has been the cause of some of my worst allergy symptoms this year. That is so sad that they lop off the tulips so they can't see them for free. I would like to pick up the lopped off ones and put them in a vase just to enjoy the beauty for a little while. I used to have to do that with my hyacinths in one of our homes, because after a couple of years I realized they were always going to freeze and fall over before they got to bloom very long. They smelled wonderful. I bet the fields of the tulips are beautiful. I love that my roses are blooming well so far this year. When I injured my rotator cuff I was able to work around it and it mended. Fortunately when I went to the doctor they said I didn't tear it. I still had mobility in it. I have to be careful. It is probably a blessing that you have not been hit up with your sisters complaints. I do think your brother doesn't need the grief either. It is very selfish for her not to realize that the rest of you have lost your mother as well.

Deb, I would bathe my granddaughters dog Muffin when we stayed at their house and she didn't struggle, but she sure did shake throughout the hole thing. I think with some treats and encouragement they could get to like it more. Mudd did not like it at first, and when I had to put special shampoo on her for her spring allergies and keep it on for 10 to 15 minutes, I would read to her out loud and hand her a treat once in awhile and it seemed to soothe her, like I was talking to her. She always got in the shower, but she always had a bit of anxiety, just like when she wanted to go in the car, but would circle around and whimper and then be fine when we got going. She would even push her head toward me like she was loving be rubbed down with the shampoo. I guess it is just the different temperaments of the dogs.

Judy, I have lowered deadlifts a lot to what I used to lift. Yes, yoga and stretching helps a lot. I find my hip flexors affect things a lot. Tracey long really seems to get them stretched out well on some of these workouts. I just need to keep up with all of it. I need to use my therapy balls more. When I roll them around my glute area and in that dip area on the side of that glute, it hurts like crazy till I am done. I can't put full pressure on it. I should have know better because a couple of the workouts I had done recently had several sets of dead lifts. Wide stance causes discomfort. Generally I cannot handle deadlifts more than one day in a week, where some workout series and rotations has them more than once.

Carolyn, I have enjoyed revisiting some of the Low Impact Series workouts lately. Nice work. I have read a lot of the glute and low back issues and protocol says to stay mobile and stretching is important. I try to remember that and sometimes I let my guard down on the extra stretching. If I do more than one workout, I generally do the stretches on all of them.

Lori, that is great that they sent you the code when you ordered with Pay Pal. My problem is I had my receipt printed up and no code on it. I had dug it out and not paid attention and did not try to download immediately. They do not generally answer their emails when you contact them till all are out and they are done. It was the holidays if I remember right and I had to wait through several days. By then my dvds had come and then they gave me a code. Anyway, it was the exact same thing two different series. At least now I know to ask about that security code. I thought they said that the pay pal users were to be sent one when they shipped the dvds last time?? They do not have a phone number do they?

As far as the new series is concerned I see a lot in the plans that looks like something I would really like for my workouts. I just need to wait a bit to order, but plan on getting them.

Diane sue yes, that is exactly it.... sister is acting like our brother& SIL and I didn't also lose someone too. and she had it the easiest! she did nothing, no care, no responsibilities. . she traveled nowhere. she did nothing to organize the funeral. she has no clue how expensive and stressful travel is these days. she got picked up and dropped off. she got to moan about everything and now is demanding all kinds of items from our mothers house. it's not that anyone wants most of it, but she has no way to get this very large stuff with the exception of a box of recipe cards. I was able to tell my brother where to look. they were still there, almost 30 yrs later. I fully understand how she wants some things but it feels very mercenary right now. she might want a bedroom set, but unless she can carry it home by herself on the bus, there's no way to get it. brother is done with her and no one else speaks to her.

I like to hear reasons for getting this series. I haven't looked too closely. I would like to have a set of disks to keep at our other house and not trek one set back and forth. I will not have a lot of equipment there. and I have the issue with sound volume.

I am feeling Ok about the shoulder. I did not do anything to injure it, and had no pain, just a gradual build up of achiness and discomfort. Hopefully if I let it rest and do ROM exercises, it will get better. It has before. it feels much better than 2 days ago and I haven't been sitting around.
