Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/26

Ha ha deb.. moving the obstacles was way easier than walking an extra mile or two carrying a pack and skis and ski boots. it was AMAZING to see that huge rock come apart in chunks. we carry a chain saw so the trees were easy, but no point in doing that a boulder blocks the road in 20 feet. we call it "road crewing" and we expect to do it especially this year.
that sounds like plenty of water. Hope you get a break following protocol. I was pretty sick with the UTI I had so I understand the motivation. I had constant UTIs when I was a kid but outgrew the problem.

air fryer wont be here until next Monday. Prime deliveries are not running 2 days lately.
I drink mostly decafe coffee. when we have a hard day like yesterday I might have an extra mid morning. I keep an envelope of Starbucks instant in my pack and dump it into my water bottle. really revs me up if I'm slumping mid morning.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did STS M2 Chest, Shoulders & Triceps. I added on a Jessica Smith Bonus, Stronger Knees and Hips.

Deb-Great job with the Ripped W/HIIT workout! Yes, I think I'm going to continue with STS for now. I feel motivated and I have the time since I'm not going anywhere or doing anything else right now.

Valerie-We bought an air fryer in December and we love it!

Carolyn-Great job with WS3 Cardio Interval Sculpt! I love that series!

Today I did Raw Tabata Weights Circuits. I always have to look for that one so made a note on my print out of the moves that it is in the Complete Library and not a category. This was 41 minutes(36 actual because I did another warm up first and switched workouts) No overhead presses in this one I burned 128 calories, 109/151 heart rate, 1,110 steps. I wish kelly did not let her head hang down when doing the deadlifts. It makes me cringe because that would make my neck hurt. She does make a correction comment on the final set about keeping your head up or something.
I then did a Fit BIt workout daily burn low impact cardio & mobility training, 32 minutes, heart rate 104/158, 89 calories, 915 steps. This was interesting, I rather liked it and it pretty well suited my needs today. Movement throughout. Moves like childs pose to updog repeated that sort of thing, cardio was a pyramid of moves up and then back down, instructor had everyone do step taps side to side while she demoed the next morement pattern, cardio was jog, butt kick, mountain climbers, oblique twists with knee pulls. There was some push up and shoulder retractions alternating. Just an idea of what it was

Coffey Fit Raw Tabata Weight Circuits (not overhead presses)

Kelly starts with 8,10,and 15# dumbbells and increases the weights on rnds 4,5,6 exercises are timed at 20 seconds and move directly to the next exercise Uses a bench for rows and bench press
rounds 1-3
1 arm row 20# db
bench press 15# dumbbells
biceps curls 15# dumbbells
lateral raise/front raise 8# dumbbells
triceps overhead extension 10# dumbbells
squats 20# dumbbells
suitcase deadlift 20# dumbbells
Round 4 and 5
1 arm row 25# dumbbell
bench press stayed with 15# dumbbells
biceps curls stayed with 15# dumbbells (Kelly starts with 12's)
lateral raise only 10# dumbbells
triceps overhead extension 12# dumbbells
squats 25# dumbbells
suitcase deadlifts 25# dumbbells
Round 6 same weights as rounds 4 and 5 except everything is done for 12 reps and no longer timed

Deb, I am hopeful that eventually things will be so much better and we can all get past some of what I think are scare tactics. Time will tell though as there are so many things coming from all directions which I think is partially because they are not sure, and some are because facts are not really accurate. My husband went to Braums today and they were open inside and there was a line. Our state is opening up businesses with safety practices in place. He went there because he was getting lunch and McDonalds does not have salads right now.

Valerie, breaking up the rock even if it was shale and cutting up the trees was quite a bit of work. I guess not a lot of choice though. I don't blame you for wanting to go to MT and not wanting to do the quarantine. I think many of us have been careful and following safe practices. I was wondering how my nephew is going to get moved to Florida with the checks and quarantine. Also wondered how my son in law managed to make a last minute trip to Florida this week for a few days. I thought they had specifications on that in Florida. I will be curious to see what you think of the air fryer. I am not so much of a fried food person, (maybe onion rings), but it would be nice for my husband. Also counter space and storage is an issue. Prime has been pretty quick here lately. I got three items today and one of them was due next week which was the Ubiquinol I ordered yesterday and one was a magnetic pan for catching bolts and things that was not due till mid May. Most of the things have come quick lately.
I drink a mushroom blend coffee in the morning that has about 50 mg caffeine in it. So, less than a normal cup of coffee. I did get some immunity K cups today and I am sure there is some caffeine, but not sure how much. Otherwise I stick mostly with decaf. for heart and so I can sleep at night.

Judy, I understand you hoping things move slower in your area. You were hit a bit later and it seems hard. Nice job on the workouts the last few days.

Carolyn, I really liked that one. Great job on WS3. I still haven't purchased. Not getting as much rebate money from shopping since shopping has been slowed down and choices that get rebates are not as possible as they were. Amazon stopped their Ibotta rebates since the Covid thing and I shop there a lot. I think I have saved about 50 dollars. I use these rebates for a lot of my workouts. I still would like to preorder Cathe's too.

day off for me. did a Costco run that was not really worthwhile. out of a lot of things.

Judy.. tell me what you use the air fryer for. I love roasted vegetables and from what I've read, you get the same firm crispy edges with very little fat, more like a sped up convection oven. I read it was great for reheating leftovers like pizza. fast, and doesn't make things soft like a microwave. I am not a fried food person, but I like roasted and grilled things and this does it without heating up the kitchen. oven wont be here until Monday, prime is not doing anything in two days lately.

in theory we should quarantine for 2 weeks if we go to MT. we do the same activities there as we do here, we go someplace alone to ride or hike and the most social thing we would do is a run to the grocery store and we'd wear mask and gloves either state. we would not go if we thought we'd been exposed to any virus.

Good morning,

Today I did Ripped W/HIIT: Back, Biceps & Shoulders, (including "finishers")..52 minutes, 244 calories.

Valerie, Did you get a picture of that rock, before and after you pulverized it? :) Those are some interesting ideas for the air fryer.

Judy, yes, a good time to continue STS.

Diane Sue, I wonder what the protocol will be for seating at restaurants when they start to let them open? Can a "family" or group of friends sit together in a booth for example? Will they make you skip and only use every other booth? What about bars? Every other stool? But if you are with friends/family, okay to be together? These are the things I wonder about. I hope your SIL and nephew

Waving to Carolyn & Lori,

Take care,

Valerie-the air fryer is great for vegetables. We've used it for green beans, brussels sprouts, sweet potato fries, chicken breast and Chris has been using it for frozen french fries (comfort food). It's so easy to clean and like you said, it doesn't heat up the kitchen. I'm very happy with it. I have a recipe I want to try for salmon:

https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a28141940/air-fryer-salmon-recipe/

We use this sprayer with olive oil and it works very well:

https://www.crateandbarrel.com/misto-frosted-glass-bottle-oil-sprayer/s559347

Thanks Judy. that fits with what I've been reading. I don't care for fried food but love roasted or grilled. firm on the outside but softer inside. with a regular oven its easy to dry things out by the time they crisp up. I love potatoes and sweet potatoes like that, and I read broccoli is. tofu. brussels sprouts in a regular oven like to scorch before they are tender and I love them. I read about salmon too, and wanted to get some yesterday at Costco, but no luck. DH is hard to make fish he'll eat so hope it works there too. I had an earlier version of Misto but it didn't work. I use a silicone brush to brush on a little olive oil. that salmon looks wonderful. Ive tried so hard to find a way for DH to eat salmon without luck. I like salmon a lot. this will be on the menu as soon as I find some. I usually got salmon or steelhead at Costco.

My costco run yesterday was disappointing. no chicken, everything was cleaned out or else they didn't get any. tons of beef and pork but no chicken or decent seafood. DH didn't like catfish at all, and they had some other whole fish and he wont eat anything with bones so forget that. there was kleenex! going to the regular grocery this morning to see if choices are better.

Deb we should have taken a pic but didn't. I had my phone off ( no cell signal) and buried in my pack, plus we looked at the rock and never in a million years expected to do much with it. it was just crazy! DH tried to swivel it, and I grabbed on and a big piece came off. I kicked the edge, another piece fell away. we still didn't realize the whole thing could be pried and broken down. it was about 3 feet high and 2 .5 feet in diameter ...BIG. chunk by chunk it all fell apart. I wish I had taken a picture.

This morning I did JS Core Control from the Build Balance and Inner Strength dvd. That was 32 minutes and 196 calories burned. My average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 155. Then I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Evening Practice. The yoga was 28 minutes and 38 calories.

Judy, nice work with STS Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps. You are doing a great job with the STS workouts. I like using a mister with olive oil. Mine is a different brand that works wonderfully until it doesn’t. I am on the second one that I can’t get to spray anymore. I have tried everything that I can think of to unclog it. Maybe I should try the brand that you have. They sold that one in WW studios for a while.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Tabata Weights Circuit. I can see how your rebates would be down with the current shopping situation.

Valerie, when I researched air fryers my conclusions were the same as yours. I roast vegetables several times a week in the oven and the air fryer reportedly works well for that. I will be interested in hearing what you think of it. I have a bottle with a silicone brush, too. I can count on that when the oil mister doesn’t work.

Deb, great workout today with RWH Back, Biceps, and Shoulders. The restaurants that have opened here are leaving tables vacant between groups and have taped off seats at the bar to maintain the distance. They are allowing groups up to six people, so families can sit together. It seems that most people are going in groups of 2-3.

Hello to Lori.

I did Rev'd up rumble, pyramid pump shoulders and the ab workout. 50 knee push ups.

I'll admit I'm fascinated with the air fryer idea. I've resisted buying for a long time but trying to stay in the mod of substituting vegetables for bread and more options can't hurt. I want to try asparagus in one too. I put a mister on my amazon list. I had one or two that didn't last long but that was long ago, and they seem to have had a resurgence with air fryers. going to give it another try. I don't like to use Pam on food. pans, ok, not food. Judy I love the sound of the salmon recipe. I printed it so I don't have to search for it when I finally find some salmon. the store today had some but very big pieces frozen. no way to cut up without thawing.

this state is not opening up that much yet. most of the covid cases are in 3 most populated counties and the rest of the state is relatively unaffected. we can learn from watching different approaches. restaurants, I dont eat out much. hair salons, Id love to see them reopen. I feel bad for all of us needing to wear masks all the time. they are hot and unpleasant.

Today I did Kelly Coffey Cardio Sculpt Fitness premix cardio and abs, 42 minutes, 112/142 heart rate (pretty sure this was not right, but I will leave it) 173 calories, 3,358 steps. I then did Step Boss bonus step sync, 21 minutes, heart rate 115/136, 102 calories, 2,322 steps. I finished off with Fit Bit Pop Sugar sexy back and 6 pack abs 12 minutes, heart rate 90/107 32 calories, 152 steps. I did not care for this one that much. They do some back flies no weight after walking in and out with hands and keeping legs straight, superman which I hate, swimming move, a couple of moves they mention you could pick up weights. Total time 75 minutes, 307 calories, 5,832 steps.
It is odd when I use a Fit Bit app workout it monitors my heart rate if I have Bluetooth on and calories are usually higher. Even the ones that give an approximate calorie burn it will adjust for me, but still higher. Also I have been using the Fit bit app to log food along with MFP. The Fitbit app always says I went over and it only allows me a little over 1400. Like yesterday I ate 1601 and it said I was over and put me in the red. I do not have lose weight in my goals. I have been trying out the relax feature at bed time before I go to sleep. It kept telling me low alignment. I questioned it and haven't got an answer so searched it out and I guess I was not following the guided circle and keeping the sparkles up. It measures heart rate in and out. So there is two numbers. When I did it right it said medium alignment as it is measuring those numbers alignment. Then I read a whole article that I was directed to about health and breathing exercise studies actually improving blood pressure and heart rates. Just interesting stuff :)

Valerie, I tried one of those misto's years ago. It would clog and I just finally tossed it. I need to get a new brush to use. Those are some good ideas for an air fryer. I hope my shopping experience is decent tomorrow because I am planning on going to the Walmart market. I think I have only been there once since this all started other than to do pick up. My husband is going to be out of cereal tomorrow and I need milk for him along with some other items. Sprouts does not sell General Mills or Kellogg cereals. I have picked up some substitutes, but the raisin bran was short on raisins.
A before and after picture of that boulder would have been interesting.

Judy, that Misto looks good. My old one would get greasy and gooey on the outside. I guess because it would clog and ooze out.

Carolyn, I do like those Build Balance and Strength workouts. I can workout barefoot and they are good workouts for posture. The Core one is my favorite. I did pretty good on some rebates my last two trips to Sprouts. They just happened to have some supplements and cereal that I had checked for shopping. I felt good about that.

my old Misto got plugged all the time and stopped spraying. nothing would come out. I loved the idea but it didn't work long. that must be 25 yrs ago during the low fat era. I still want my food low fat but I'm not as fanatic as I was. Pam spray is Ok on pans where food covers the sprayed surface, like in a bread pan where the sides and bottom shouldn't stick. I rarely use it on food. seems wrong. some plain olive oil spray sounds a lot better and I like limiting the amount but getting the surface lightly covered.
Going to do a ride this morning. lovely out today. rain back for the weekend.

Today I did ICE Chiseled Upper Body for 43 minutes and 231 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 147.

Diane Sue, nice job with KCM Cardio Sculpt, Step Sync Bonus, and Fitbit back and abs. I am intrigued by the Fitbit workouts, but not enough to actually do one . My husband prefers one of the Barbara’s cereals, which Sprouts does carry. Not all of the regular stores have it, so like you, I have to make sure that I get his favorites when I am in the right place.

Valerie, it sounds like we all have had similar experiences with the oil misters. Nice job with Rev’d Up Rumble, Pyramid Pump Shoulders, and knee push ups.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

Today I slept way to late and still did not get a good nights rest It took me forever to decide on a workout this today. I have to go Walmart before my husband gets up to have early dinner and get ready for work. So, just a shorter workout that took long because I wrote it down. Hunted for it as I know I did it before. I am going to have to organize all of these Raw workouts and maybe get a binder. Pages were falling all over the place when I was looking. Anyway I did on of Kelly's earlier raw workouts Raw Interval Circuits under cardio and weight intervals. This is light weights, but not to be underestimated in difficulty. 48 minutes(39 actual) heart rate 107/150, 164 calorie, 1,986 steps.
Raw Interval Circuits 39 minutes (cardio and Weights) light weight
Kelly says no more than 7 to start. I started with 8 first half and then wore 2# gloves and used 5's second half
This is a weight circuit done twice each exercise done for 1 minute (Kelly's timer goes off every 15 seconds)
4 minute warm up
plank, knee, jack
alternating biceps curls (had my arms burning)8's
lunge pulse switch or if not jumping just lunge I did the switch with the 8's
rope/crossjack/knee
lateral raise both 30 sec then alternate 30 seconds 8's
frog squat to reverse lunge right leg and left leg holding dbs in front 8's
upper cuts/ hop front and back 30 sec then just upper cuts
overhead triceps extensions 30 sec then pullover to triceps extension 30 sec (standing) 8's
squat pops 8's
curtsy/scale no weight
plank on forearms to side plank star alternating sides
End round 1 repeat Kelly does not use weights on pop squats second round, but I do. 2nd round was all done with 5# and 2 # gloves so non weighted did have the 2#

Valerie, it is much easier to give a little coat of oil with a spray than to dump the food in a bowl and toss in oil. drizzling requires moving the food all over trying to coat it well. I should look for something else. I don't know if there is something in sprays off the store shelves. I remember them using butter spray on popcorn back in the no fat era or butter buds. I have sprayed some things once in awhile with avocado oil spray from the store just to get some seasoning to stick.

Carolyn, the Fit bit workouts are not bad using my tablet. I still can't figure out why premium is not showing up on my 12 inch tablet. Wondering if they limit how many devices as I have it on my cell phone and Galaxy Tab A. I did read yesterday that there is some Google App that one can get and it makes it pretty easy to mirror to the television. Also you can use chromcast with the Google App. If I were to keep it I would look into it. For strength, barre, and yoga the tablet is not bad. I am not caring for it so much for cardio as I almost need my reading glasses to follow. I don't care for coach. The Pop sugar workouts end with an add to sell their streaming. There are quite a few free workouts though. In fact I did a couple of them because they were mixed in with certain categories. I think I will miss the premium, but I think I would rather another streaming service over what premium has. Although since Google is taking over Fitbit, maybe it will get better.

Did our ride yesterday, about 25 miles 2 hours and a few minutes.
I roasted 2 diced up sweet potatoes last night. drizzle in some olive oil and toss, then add some salt and chili powder and toss again. I'd use a little less oil with a sprayer. oven roasting takes a while, 20-30 min. you can hurry it with a higher temp but need to watch closer so little pieces don't burn. Butter spray. I'd forgotten about that. I'll order a Misto on next amazon order.
Long article today about all the farmers losing their potato crops because of the drop in restaurant orders. need to plow them under rather than harvest, they cant even begin to give away all the warehouses full of them. I had no idea French fries were so dominant. I never eat them. I like potatoes but other ways. I used to make "oven fries" and liked those but I would eat too many.

our state is easing into opening things up but very slowly. it will take a few weeks to see whose strategy works best.

Today I did Step Sync Intermediate and the Bonus Abs Stacker. That was 43 minutes and 310 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 164.

Valerie, I love roasted sweet potatoes like that. I made sweet potato black bean enchiladas earlier this week and they were so good! It’s a recipe that I got from the food network a few years ago. I like to roast the sweet potatoes first instead of cooking them on the stovetop, but the dish is delicious either way. Things here are opening up slower than I thought they would, but still too much too soon.

Diane Sue, it’s good that you were able to get in a workout even with a rocky start. I hate to waste time looking for things when I’m ready for my workout. JS cardio is the only thing that I will do from my iPad. I don’t have to look very closely to follow along with her.

Hi to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

My Fitbit says I had a good nights sleep last night instead of fair. I have had more good nights lately since I have been tracking and following some guidelines. Also I do not have a alarm clock waking me and forcing me out of bed since my husband works nights and keeps those hours all of the time. I think that makes a huge difference than me staying up to get things finished up before bed and being woke up. I do have days coming up where I have to get up early so am "trying" to get to bed a bit earlier to compensate.
Today I did Coffey Fit Raw new heavy bag put up. I like how Kelly instructs when she has Noelle boxing. Wonder if she read my post on the facebook check in about my hands and the gloves. She talks about not hitting with the pinky and index fingers and some pointers there. I generally try to avoid the fingers. It was a good boxing workout with some breaks doing some body weight lunges and squats. 31 minutes, 157 calories, 122/165 heart rate, 3,143 steps ( I back up and step into a lot of my punches and bounce around a lot) It is hard for me to stay stationary. I think that is fine as long as I use my body for the punches and not just my arm. I then did Fit Bit "Daily Burn" kickboxing cardio+strength" 28 minutes, 125 calories, heart rate 119/165, 1,853 steps. This had no kicking in it and was boxing with cardio and strength, some with dumbbells I used 8# as it looked like they had light weights, walking planks, squat thrusts, combos of both, bear crawls to name a few moves. I finished with Fitbit 20 minutes recovery and mobility which I liked quite a lot, which was 20 minutes, 55 calories, heart rat 83/103, 69 steps. Total time was 79 minutes, 337 calories, 5,065 steps.

Valerie, I hate all this stuff about food and companies not getting reopened. Afraid for our food supplies if they don't get back to work. I wish they did not feel the need to put us through all of this. Our state is opening in phase1. We can have church and pastor says every other pew leaving the frot empty and distancing unless as a couple we want to sit together. No nursery so only a family member can be in one of the individual rooms with their own children. But, at least we can go back. My ladies are going to have game day the 12th. Sort of taking a count of how many of us are up to coming.

Carolyn, nice work today. I struggled with getting my heart rate when I did that one Thursday. I am sure it was just my Fitbit as I was adding to it trying to get my heart rate up. I love roasted and sauted sweet potatoes. Baked I try not to cook too long or make them hasselback style. They are good with whole 30 buffalo chicken dip on top.

I posted other stuff originally, but it would not let me post and I had to come out and come back and it deleted part of my post. Oh, well. You didn't have to read my rambling ;)

Hi,

No workout yesterday or today.

Judy, it sounds like you are really getting use out of the air fryer. We used to have a Misto, ( actually had 2 of them), and really liked them. They just all of a sudden quit working. Was glad we had the second to go to. We never got another when that stopped working.
Valerie, Have never seen a place without chicken, but by the way things sound, it looks like we will be having meat shortages soon. :(. The best salmon I ever had was in Seattle! That is sad about the potatoes, and the pig farmers too.

Carolyn, nice job on the JS and JA workouts & Step Synch! Yes, it seems like the Misto was a problem for everyone. We could not figure out a way to unclog them either.

Diane Sue, nice job on KCM raw workouts. Do you still have Cathe Live? Good that you are getting better sleep. I cannot get any more than 5+ hours.

HI to Lori,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Cathe's Step Tutorials 1-3. They are so helpful and easy to follow. I think 4-7 will be a little more advanced. I'll probably try them next week.

Deb-we are getting a lot of use out of the air fryer. I'm going to try the salmon recipe in it tomorrow.
So far our Misto has been working fine but it sounds like we might want to order a spare for when it stops working.

Diane Sue-Nice workouts! Most everything is still closed in Michigan until the end of May. This includes restaurants, gyms and hair salons. Also, no elective surgeries or medical procedures can be done. It's a little confusing because the stay at home order is supposed to end May 15 (unless that gets extended again). Grocery stores seem to be well stocked. We even found toilet paper in Ann Arbor today. We drove by my Home Depot on the way and the parking lot was absolutely packed. There is no way they could be doing social distancing with that many people in the store. There are still a lot of new cases and deaths daily in metro Detroit so I don't think we are ready for phase 1 yet.

Valerie-Great ride! Sweet potatoes are so good. We've been getting the Alexia brand of french fries for Chris. They seem a little healthier than some other brands.

Carolyn-Great job with Step Sync and the bonus abs! I feel the same way about things opening up here. It feels like it would be way too soon now.

Hi to Lori!

Judy

Feeling drowsy and went outside for awhile. I think that I should have saved the Wildcrafter Spiritual Calm Coffee pod I drank with dinner. I like it a lot particularly iced with a tablespoon of Oatmilk vanilla creamer.
It has chamomile, passionflower, and holy basil in it. I really did not expect it to make me so sleepy. It did the same thing last night, but I drank it later so no big deal. I also got some of the immune coffee they have too that has elderberry, astragulus , and I think reishi in it for immunity. I found them on Amazon and they are a new product. Love that the pods are recyclable and they have ways to use them on their web site. Like using them keeping the paper liner in and starting seed in them.

Deb, I have not paid for Cathe Live for while now. I just left it where I can restart it. Although it was odd that I got an e-mail from Cathe's about request for a password change and if it was not me to ignore it. I was wondering if I should try to get rid of it altogether. I don't know who would have had my email to ask for a password change. Sort of weird.

Judy, I have not looked at Cathe's step tutorials. That is nice that Cathe did that so those that find it difficult can do step workouts. I never did the tutorials on the dvds different instructors put on the ones with more complicated choreography. Just worked at it one combo at a time. They are opening up elective surgeries here. I think they are in Florida as my brother is getting preop stuff done for a knee replacement. He has been in so much pain and had it scheduled and then the virus came out and the place he had been going to said they couldn't do it with his insurance so he had to go back and find someone else. Sprouts looked pretty busy yesterday when I went out and that and it being a Friday and the first of the month I figured Walmart Market would be packed so just picked up things at the Dollar general store which was not bad. Couldn't get fresh produce and Kombucha tea though. I will survive the weekend :)
