Pentagenarians Beyond: W/B 3/4

I always forget that there is really no reason to set up the Fit Tower for STS Total Body. It is only used for the bench press. The picture on the back shows Cathe doing incline press, but there is none in the workout. Just the flat bench press. I think the tower just gets in the way for no real reason. Also, it suggests the Fit tower or pull up bar in the equipment needed and I am wondering what you would be doing with a pull up bar.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was FS Low Impact and xtrain bis and tris. Since there was a delayed opening of our office I had more time in the morning to do this.

Diane Sue...I have a few of Zuzka’s DVDs and one of them is the zcut power yoga series. I am going to convert these tonight and check them out, its been a while. I have done the workouts but never did the yoga. I remember she is in amazing shape and really tough. Completely forgot I had these till you mentioned her. In addition to the yoga I have Power Cardio series 3 disc set and Power Strength series 3 disc set. She had a Youtube channel I used to follow from time to time then she went away.

Carolyn...barre really gets you deep. I love the burn I get when doing a tough lower body workout. The roads were messy but not as horrible as we expected. Plows were out all night getting ahead of the storm. The hardest part was getting out of the driveway.

Valerie...have a great trip. Yes let’s hope the snow is at its end. Funny it is Spring where you live but you are heading into snow! Yikes!

Deb..I am like that. On weekends if I have to get dressed and go somewhere in the morning it is hard to get motivated to workout when I am back.

Hi to Judy!!

Lori, I bet it was nice having a bit more time for your workout this morning. It seems the driveway is generally the hardest and sometimes the residential street. Zuzka still has you tube with some workouts. Many are a couple of years or more old. She does a coffee talk and talks nutrition. I looked for a way to purchase newer dvds and she seems to only have her streaming and a couple of meal plan programs that she sells. She obviously gets deals so she can sell some products. She had an interesting device that was like a large oval bosu, but looked like it had a bit more give to it that she was working off of in a video. I was looking at it wondering if it would work to use as a step bench. She is so fit, I don't think I could ever do all of what she does. I checked her age and she is around 35 years old. So, she has youth on her side :) Her workouts seem to have always been shorter. I think she goes with the idea of getting it, give it your all, and get out, on her workouts.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Strength & Stamina workout #1. 37 minutes, 192 calories. We met my friend that I used to work with from Michigan last night for dinner. He was in town for business. Great time, and great food.

Lori, Yikes is right! I can't believe you were going in at all.

Carolyn, yes, barre leg work really gets you. It hits all those tiny muscles that are not used as much.

Diane Sue, I still need to research the greens stuff and see what I would like. Amazon has some with individual flavors so you can taste them. I may call around locally and see if any health food stores have them. I don't remember STS Total Body that much. I would think if you were using a really heavy barbell, you might want to use the tower if you did not have a weight bench for BB presses.

Hi to Judy & Valerie,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did JS 10 Pounds Down 20 Minute Arms & Legs and KCM Cardio Pump, Shoulders & Arms Premix. I really liked the JS arm work! I started with 7 lbs and had to go down to 5 after a few minutes. I'll do Cathe's Live spin on Sunday, instead of the Spinerval that I had planned.

Deb-I find it hard to workout after going somewhere too. I prefer to do my workouts first thing in the morning.

Diane Sue-There is a bonus segment on the STS Total Body DVD that has pull-ups. It's in some of the premixes but not the main workout. I thought it was kind of odd that they didn't indicate that on the DVD. I found out from reading 2lazy4gym's review of the workout. Now that I'm reading about it, I want to do it again :) I think I'll do the Timesaver – Compound Only Exercises Premix next week.

Lori-Wow! That is a lot of snow! I'm surprised you were able to go into work. I really hope that was the last of the snow for this winter.

Carolyn-I agree about Fit Tower Legs & Glutes. I always feel that one, and barre work in general, more than other leg work.

Valerie-Hope you are having a great trip!

Judy

This morning I was so indecisive on workouts. I started with Amy Ross Body Box, warm up and combo 1, 17 minutes, 132 calories, met 6, heart rate average 131, max 169, 1,654 steps. So, just thinking I would get the cardio over with I did Fit Split Cardio Shred (I don't know why) It went well though and I used 1 riser, 30 minutes, heart rate average 140, max 181, 202 calories, met 6.3 , 2,681 steps. I finished off with A youtube Zuzka Light 20 minute abs workout with a stretch workout added, 30 minutes, 103 calories, heart rate 103 average, 133 max, 515 steps. This ab workout had 3 rounds of a group of exercises each round ended with a bosu skip across and touch the floor. Total time was 77 minutes, 438 calories.

Deb, I wasn't pushing that hard yesterday and since I don't work chest real heavy I probably would not have needed the tower for just that one. I think that I did see the individual flavors on Amazon. It is always fun meeting up with friends. We have two couples that are meeting us part way from where we live now and the city that we used to live in for lunch tomorrow. It will be fun catching up :)

Judy, it is amazing how hard using those light weights can become in some workouts. I had that happen the first time I did the upper on SB bounce workout. I lowered after how sore I was the first time I did it with 5#. I was not expecting it. Thanks for the information on STS Total body. I had no idea that there was a bonus in there. I will be looking for it next time. I guess if I looked at the workout manager I could see which premixes have it.

Good morning. we made it all the way yesterday. got here as it was getting dark around 7. 11 hrs 15 min drive with only gas/bathroom stops. everything works, heat, water, hot water, etc. looks like we never left. we need more furniture. each time we add a few more things. we needed to get the driveway plowed, a load of snow drifted in just in the last 10 days. was clear all winter. cost a lot to get it done but it was WAY too much to shovel or snowblow. right now we will pay someone to plow it when we come in winter rather than get expensive equipment we might only use a few times.

I am interested in the JS workout you all keep talking about. will wait until we get home as we don't have things shipped here at this point. I'd like an over all arm workout with light weights. I will not have heavy weights here. 5,8,10, 12 is probably it , plus bands. I agree on barre work. I don't like doing it, and one reason is I get so sore!. and last time I got bursitis in one hip joint so I need to be cautious.

Lori it is kind of funny for us leaving "spring" to go back to winter. we've done it before. it's one reason we will probably not move to MT permanently. long winters are not what I want to do again. it's fine to visit, but I don't want to live it every year.

am I missing something here? why get greens powder? why not just eat fresh greens? keep in mind I do not use supplements at all, and prefer to stick to real fresh food, bought or home grown. I love my vegies!. lettuce, spinach swiss chard, kale, collards, you name it... I eat it.

Today I did Fit Tower Total Body which was 1 hour and 256 calories burned. My average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate 150. I like this workout a lot. I had forgotten that but I wrote a note on my workout sheet to remind me for next time.

Deb, great job with Strength and Stamina. That one gets a lot done in a short period of time. I’m sure that you enjoyed seeing your friend for lunch.

Diane Sue, I have done STS Total Body many times. It is a great total body workout. I use the Tower for my barbell, but it certainly isn’t necessary. I usually check the shopping section of the Cathe website to preview workouts that I don’t remember well and to check the premixes.

Judy, I don’t have the JS 10 Pounds Down, but the arm workout sounds good. I have been quite surprised by Jessica’s strength workouts. I was only doing her cardio from the dvds that I owned before WS3. Are the pull ups in STS Total Body on the premixes that include a bonus burn? I missed that too. I can really feel the pull ups from the Fit Tower workouts this week. I like doing them.

Valerie, I love my greens too. I think I eat more of them than anyone I know! I am better with barre workouts after trying Suzanne Bowen. She gives great directions on proper form and modifications for staying higher on some moves which works better for my knees.

Lori, it’s always nice to have more time for the morning workout.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Valerie, I eat kale or sometimes other greens pretty much daily. I love my vegetables, but for some reason they do not provide enough of an alkaline environment that helps my reflux. I ran out of greens powder and let it go for awhile and my reflux came back and I had a hard time sleeping, bending over to pick up things etc.. After a few nights of taking some antacid, I finally went back out and got the greens powder and the reflux is gone. There is really a lot more variety of ingredients in the greens powders that I probably eat. Some have adaptogens and most that I have used add probiotics.

Carolyn, Fit Tower Total Body is a good workout. I am glad that I have it. I should look at the older workouts to jog my memory. I pulled out the dvd with Step Jump Pump and Step Blast and couldn't remember which premix was just all step? Anyway, I put it in and took it back out along with a couple of other workouts, till I decided I really did need to make up my mind :) My plan this week was 2 to 3 total body workouts alternated with cardio. I didn't have all of it mapped well. I would have done STS total Body Tuesday, but didn't have worksheets printed so I did Total Body Giant sets first. I am not sure what I will do tomorrow as I will be short on time.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday...and just agility class today. I hope to start a rotation tomorrow.

Judy, nice job with that arm workout with 7 pounds...I had a hard time keeping up with 5's. And kudos for doing the KCM afterwards!

Diane Sue, indecisive on workouts? that is how I feel every day. I need to get something down that I like so I will do it. Sometimes I just can't decide what to do... upper, lower, total? etc. Have fun with lunch today. Can you put a link here for the Amazing Grass immunity one you use? I found one on Amazon, but can't find the label so I can see the actual ingredients/vitamins etc.

Valerie, wow, that was a long drive with no real rests. I think you will like the JS workout. Good idea to find someone that can do plowing rather than buy a snow blower, and have to do it when you get there. I wish I liked, and cooked the veggies that you mentioned. I do "like" them, but not enough to eat the servings a day that they recommend.

Carolyn, FT Total Body was one of my favorites from that series too. Just curious how do you fit all the greens you eat into a day?

Lori, I hope your snow is melting!

Take care,

Good morning ladies,

Yesterday was cardio of choice so I did a couple of bellicon bounces. One uses a firewalker loop around the mid thighs. Felt the burn with this one. Was about 45 mins total. Todays workout is Supercuts and I am sure I will add on to this. Today I will be officially done with this rotation! Going to stick with 30 day rotations when using the same workouts over and over. WS3 was fun and so is SBF’s 8 week rotations. With these there are so many workouts you feel like you are always doing something different.

Snow has finally ended. We kept having squalls so it felt like it just was not ending. Still people without power in the state. This was a tough storm. I am hearing another is coming. Don’t think it will be as intense but a winter storm. Enough already!

Diane Sue...I reviewed the Zcut workouts and actually like the power yoga. I can see myself doing these. The strength workouts I did when I first bought these when they came out. Looking at them now there is no way I would do them. Too many planks and burpees for my liking. Do you have these dvd’s? I will gladly send them to you if you would like them. I know longer have the cases, they are just in sleeves.

Caroylin...I love all the FT workouts. Live and DVD’s. The JS Arm workout made me want to do more of her workouts. I did not expect her to be so tough. She sneaks up on you.

Judy...nice starting off with 7lbs. I am going to do this workout today after Supercuts. I did the 20 min legs a while ago and remember liking it. Pretty sure I went heavier with the weights. Going to check out the STS TB premixes. I still have this dvd.

Valerie...I think you would like the JS workout. Pretty sure you can find on ebay really cheap. It is the 10lb down Better Body Blast and has three 20 min workouts. Yes have that driveway plowed!!! Enjoy your trip!

Deb...I like following a rotation. I may sub in a workout here and there but like having a workout selected for me.

My husband has been reading a lot about the benefits of rebounding. Out of the blue he started up again. Has not been on it since before xmas. When I asked what brought this on he mentioned all his research and he was amazed. Funny I have told him all the benefits many times but until he did his own research it sunk in! Says he will be bouncing every day. He has done well with his weight since his weightloss last year.

Have a great weekend all!

I did total body metabolic yesterday. in stages..... the altitude kills me the first few days. I went a little lighter on weight and took a few short breaks to catch my breath. it is hard going from sea level to at least 5000 feet. you don't breath often or deeply enough and suddenly realize you are out of breath doing the simplest things.
our workout room will be fine . we are using an old dvd player, a newer small TV and a sound bar. no streaming in this room but that's OK. we will likely get another spin bike. DH did TBM yesterday and didn't like it at all. he uses cathes STS for weights and her spin dvds but that's it. we don't plan on getting a lot of equipment for here but a spin bike is cheaper than a TM or elliptical. he threatened to get a Nordic track. I HATE those. so I said spin bike instead. we plan on doing mostly outdoor things when we are here, but want something to use on bad weather days or just to help acclimate.

we are parking our car up on the road to be sure we can get out the driveway. it is too costly to get it plowed often and the way the drift forms it would be very hard to use small equipment to clear it.

I didn’t do a workout this morning. I had my investment club today and needed to leave at 8:30. Sometimes I get up earlier to work out before leaving, but I didn’t feel like doing that today. We had a great meeting.

Deb, I have to have at least a weekly workout plan so that I know before I go to bed what I will do the next day. If not, I am more likely to skip my workout. That’s one reason that I use Cathe’s rotations. I have looked through the previous rotations to find those that might appeal to me. I copied those into Word documents that I can easily look at and decide if I want to follow the rotation. I can then sub in a similar workout if I want to based on the goal for the rotation. I make sure to copy the focus of rotation such as strength, weight loss, or metabolic, etc. This has worked well for me over the years since I am not good at creating a rotation from scratch. I get in a variety of greens by eating a large salad every day for lunch with about 3 cups of greens. I add protein and other things to the salad to make it a complete meal and for variety. I often have leftover kale or spinach with my breakfast and some type of leafy greens with dinner 2-3 times a week. Like Valerie, I eat a variety of greens.

Lori, I feel the same way about doing the same workouts for a month. That’s a good way to learn a new series, but I get bored after a while. It’s funny that your husband decided to try rebounding after reading on his own. My husband does the same to me. Most recently it was artificial sweeteners. He was tuning me out when I talked about the need to limit these. Then one day he was watching Dr. Oz on television and saw the same thing. He came to me later and said “I think I need to cut back on diet soda”. My response was simply that it sounded like a good idea :).

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Valerie.

Carolyn-For STS Total Body, I think the pull ups are in the "Compound Only Exercises" Premixes. I'm not sure if they are in any of the other premixes.

Men like ideas that they think are their own. often I suggest something and it gets overlooked. sometimes I set it up so he will "think " he thought of it himself. also some people ( especially men) have to hear things a few times before it sinks in . as long as they get pointed in the right direction, whatever works.

we went xc skiing this morning, about 3 hours total. not real arduous. it was a lovely morning 14 degrees when we started but it felt much warmer. sunny and very warm on the snow. elevation was about 7500 feet. I could not go very fast uphill but kept going.
when we walked to our car this morning there were all kinds of animal tracks in the fresh snow. there were two big herds of elk close by, and a group of elk walked up our driveway and past our house during the night. other little paw prints like foxes and coyotes. we want to set up a trail camera next time so we can see what goes on at night while we're sleeping.
we saw absolutely loads of elk..many hundreds.. pronghorns and bison this morning on the way to the park and in the park. also a very good look at a coyote lounging in the sun while we skied past. we heard a wolf pack howling while we were eating lunch. it is such a lovely mournful sound. went on for about 5 minutes. we never saw them. we've seen wolves many times before. fascinating creatures.

Today I did Fit Split Low Impact and Metabolic before we left to meat friends. Workout was 50 minutes, 270 calories, 5.0 met, heart rate average 113, max 151, 2048 steps. We had a really fun visit and lots of remembrances :)

Deb, I waste way too much time when I just can't find a workout that I want to do. I had several that I had put out at the start of the week to do and had no desire to do any of them when the time came. I will post the Amazing Grass here when I am done. I really do not like to buy products from Amazon that do not show the nutrition portion of the label or ingredient listings.

Lori, it is nice to have a rotation where the workouts are different and have a lot of variety. I almost always end up adding something else in with rotations that get repetitive. No, I do not have Zcut strength workouts. I would love to have them. I have noticed that she fits in burpee moves quite a bit. One of those yoga workouts blends in a burpee. I pulled it up first the other day and remembered that I generally use the warrior and crescent series portions most of the time with the cool down. I think it was the chair series that has the burpee in it. I think that my Z cut dvds were just in cardboard sleeves. I keep them in my large cases with pages to hold them. Just the sets in the larger cases that Cathe has are ones I keep the dvds in the original packaging. Also, most of my newest stuff is still on the shelf in their original cases. That is great that your husband has taken an interest back into rebounding :)

Valerie, a spin bike sounds best to me. My husband was just looking at a Nordic Track advertised on tv. Hearing all the sounds of the creatures and seeing them would add to the breathtaking otherwise silence. Setting up a camera would be enjoyable to see what is going on.

Carolyn, Cathe has some good rotations, but I like to have a blend of instructors. I have rotations that I have written up myself. Sometimes I go with a certain focus. The only thing I had planned this week was 3 total body workouts and I had the first two out, today I just decided on Metabolic as it is lighter weight than the others and hits everything. I just have not had enough focus on a particular plan lately. I need one though.

Judy, I checked the exercises on Cathe's workout manager and none of the premixes lists pull ups or chin ups. It just mentions bonus which, I am guessing somehow those moves fit in somewhere. I did the entire workout as is. I don't think I have ever done compound or the timesaver mixes. I have done the upper and lower split mixes.

Deb, here is a link to the Amazing Grass antioxidant 15,000 orac that I have used. You should be able to find others on this page to check out. This one and the other that I posted Immunity are what I have used the most. Some are lower in vitamin K. Really most greens carry a lot of vitamin K. My Dad was told to limit his intake of spinach because he was already taking blood thinners. I looked and most had around 49mcg to up to 85 mcg of K. I have also used some of the special elixers that were the greens with some other stuff for either skin, brain, or belly. Depending on which one. There is also Amazing grass raw reserve. I have only tried that in single use packets.
