Pentagenarians Beyond: W/B 3/4

Deb, I use Amazing grass the most often. My favorite is the immunity one that has 1000 mg C and it has 500 mg D3 along with k and some A and a little calcium in it. Thevother I use in that brand is the Berry ORAC. I keep it in the refrigerator after opening as suggested. I have used Paradise greens which has a huge comprehensive formula, but after several containers I figured out that it was what was making me feel wiped out and not well. Kind of like years ago with a product that had msm in it. I think it was something with the siurce of the msm, because I use joint vibrance that has some in it with no problem. I think there is a link between the amount or type of sulfer in some msm, which I am allergic to. Anyway, Amazing grass is one that I have mainly been using for 8 years now with intermittent trying something else and going back to it. Green Vibrance works okay for me. It can be pretty costly though and the taste is not very good.
The reflux was starting to getvso bad that I was taking some antacid to try to sleep and that is not good. I hate bending over and having stufff burn my throat :( I will stick with my greens.

I enjoyed the little I saw of the AA's. I've always liked award shows. I don't always like the big winners but I always add or delete thing I want to watch with the info from the shows. I can tell them why the viewer ratings are down this year. You can't stream the show. it comes on a regular TV channel that we usually get clearly, but the AA's especially, they ( someone who controls the broadcast) do something to block the signal and it gets all broken up and unwatchable as the evening goes on. we saw the beginning but by about an hour to 90 min it became completely broken up.

Deb, the HOA rules are clear. what has happened is people skirt around them a little. I did when I was working. all I was doing was typing medical transcription but it was technically a business. several people have MIL apartments that are a slight violation too. lots of people have home offices they conduct business from. these are "semi violations". like someone who does a few kids at a home daycare. but in the internet age, it happens and it doesn't bring in extra traffic and hordes of people to basically a "storefront."

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Cardio Slam which was 50 minutes and 320 calories burned. Average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate 155. The time listed on the dvd cover is 40 minutes but the workout is actually 50 minutes long. I had forgotten that, but I didn’t mind.

Deb, great job with doing the Live Move It workout. It’s good to have a modification or an alternative for high impact moves. Amanda shows a modification for flying angel jacks in another workout but I don’t remember which one. I picked up some modifications from KCM’s cardio workouts with the modifier and I also use those at times.

Valerie, I watched some of the Academy Awards but I haven’t seen any of the movies. I enjoyed the part that I saw and I like to see the fashions that the stars are wearing.

Lori, I did the Strong and Sweaty rotation when the series came out and I have done some of the workouts several times since then. I’m looking forward to doing them again. I think my Bosu was $99 when I purchased it about nine years ago. I haven’t used it much in recent years. Speaking of the Academy Awards, I heard a commentator say that one of the actresses worked out with Body By Simone to get in shape. I thought of you :).

Diane Sue, there is definitely a lot of fraud in the food industry these days. Honey is a big problem as is olive oil. I have a friend who became a bee keeper a few years ago and I get honey from her. If not her, I buy from another local bee keeper. It takes a lot of work to eat a healthy diet

Hello to Judy.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets basic mix with abs, and added 40 reps of calf raises with 30's and two sets of pistols one with no weight and 1 with 8#. 69 minutes, 371 calories, met 4.8, 1,403 steps. I then did Barre Amped bonus ball stretch 6 minutes, 15 calories. Total time was 75 minutes 386 calories. I have a dentist appointment I will try to get back and list weights. Running late because I had a dental cleaning and check this morning and had to stop back at Sprouts for potatoes and yams for tomorrows Wednesday family dinner. I am going to grill chicken and am hoping this wind dies down. I wanted to make roasted potato wedges and I prefer sweet potatoes or yams.

Valerie, maybe the rules need to be adjusted so that it is clear that home business does not draw traffic and require extra parking etc. I am not sure how they would word it. There are a lot of large home areas where businesses are done at home, but what this guy is doing is completely different. As I mentioned, my daughter's area has a lot of people that have home businesses, but nothing like that. I think one runs a maid service. My daughter was doing a home daycare and education program. She was very conscientious that it was not violating rules. My dentist worked from his house till his office was opened. He even posted facebook pages. Their garage was full of equipment and stuff to be moved into the office. Anyway he put out to his customers that if they needed he would do it at his house or come to their home. Particularly in emergencies. I see nothing wrong with that myself. It was also not permanent. I think here we have a few people that work out of their homes, but we have a lot of rules about parking. The guy next door is a lawyer and worked out of his house when he was taking care of his dad who recently passed away from cancer. I think he finally is going somewhere else to work. Oddly, I noticed he put up a cox security system. There is someone here that does pet care and another that will actually go into peoples homes and check on their pets and walk their dogs during the day for a fee. So, there are small businesses as such. The thing that gets tough is when I have grandchildren come and stay over night a day or two, they really are not supposed to leave their cars overnight in our extra parking area. We are not supposed to either, but I think it is ignored a bit unless someone really wants to complain. For one thing some people's driveways barely fit one car. We have one neighbor whose drive is so small they have to park their pickup diagonally so it is not hanging out in the street.

Carolyn, I don't mind if a workout is a bit longer unless I forget and I have picked it because I only have a certain amount of time to do it. That has happened before and I end up skipping the stretch or end of a workout. The older workouts are the ones that are generally not correct on time. My daughter and her husband got new bees this year. There last ones died off and were very aggressive mean bees. My aunt who keeps bees noticed right away that they had mean bees and gave them some suggestions. I loved the honey my aunt brought to me. I recently finished off the quart jar. When I lived where my younger daughter lives I sometimes went to the local shop that was a nail salon/dry cleaner/ florist and carried local products. It does take a lot of awareness to eat healthy and buy healthy products.

we did a hike in a local park this morning for 90 minutes. came home for lunch, loaded the bikes and rode for another 90 min. it was a pleasant sunny day about 52 degrees but felt so spring like.

Our CC&R's were written back in the '80's. we just voted to amend them to allow the board to collect extra money for a legal fund. this guy is totally ignoring and then it gets hard to enforce. we do not have the power to cut off his water, which would bring a quick halt to this. No one worries about people who do low key "semi legal" things discreetly. this is big and blatant and will adversely affect every person who lives here.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was a premix of Xtrain Ch,Bk and Sh. I did the first 5 rounds and that was a great workout about 35 mins. I like a shorter strength workout. Once I get over 30 minutesI start looking at the clock. I then finished up with a Bellicon strength bounce. Total time was 54 mins / 326 cal.

Diane Sue...well I guess that is how much they cost then. I need to think about whether this is something I will use a lot. Very tempting! Nice workout today. Calves are another muscle I hate to work. Almost as much as abs. I do so much barre and bouncing I do not need to work my calves separately so I always skip or do a completely different move.

Valerie...I enjoyed the little I saw of the AA’s too. Glad Francis Mcdormand won for 3 Billboards. This was the only movie we saw out of all of the nominees and we knew no way was anyone other than Francis would win - she was that good. Also the best supporting actor Sam Rockwell also in Billboards. We knew he would win - again he was that good! Nice hike and ride today!!!!

Deb...I really liked Move It too and will certainly do this again. It just moved right along. I think you will like the JS arms workout. Like 2lazy4gym. I also used heavier weights than 5lbs. 8lbs worked great for me. My arms always felt so strong at the end of this workout. When I did the cardio in between sets I used 1lb hand weights to continuously work the arms. It is a favorite of mine and you are done in 20 mins! Can’t beat that!

Carolyn..funny with the BBS! That is what I am afraid of with the Bosu. Not using it often enough to justify the cost. Need to really think about this. You and Diane Sue are making me want to to S&S!!

Have a great night all! Hi to Judy!!

Valerie, it would be kind of hard to make people in this digital age not work out of their homes. So many work off their computers.

Lori, maybe you should watch some different types of Bosu workouts. Their are ones that are strength based and cardio. I enjoy a Kelli Roberts one off of Bosu Explode that only uses a small weighted ball and does balance strength and stretching work. It is a nice workout. Not a huge calorie burner though. Mindy Mylrea does some killer cardio on one that I have. Fortunately the background exercisers sometimes modify. There is a lot of balance on the rebounders, but not quite the same as standing on a dome. I choose 1 or 2 bodypart weight workouts occasionally, just for the same reason you don't like long workouts and clock watch. I have been trying to change things up just to see if I can get my scale weight to change. It has stayed the same to the ounce for months now. I am wondering if something is wrong with it. I know I don't really need to lose weight. I just wonder about the scale. I even took the battery out and put it back in and thumped it on the floor a few times, told it I hated it. Maybe it is playing with me LOL That is why I used to keep it in the cabinet and only pull it out occasionally.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did JS 10 Pounds Down 20 Minute Arms, 23 minutes, 125 calories. I used 5 pound DB's and it was tough. Cudos to Lori for using 8 pound DB's! It is deceiving as it is called "arms" when the whole upper body is worked.

Diane Sue, thanks for the info on the Amazing Grass. I went over to Amazon and looked at it. Unfortunately, the one I looked at had the first ingredient as vitamin K, which I have to be very careful of, because of a blot clotting syndrome I have. :(. Otherwise, it looked really good. I guess I could look for some that does not have vitamin K, or has very little. It's great that it is what helps your reflux issue. Roasted sweet potato wedges sound delicious!

Valerie, it would be good if there was something more specific, where it had it that the "business" could not be something open to the public, eg where people are coming and going, need of a liquor or food license, etc. I know that may be even more difficult manage for the board. It seems like those are the things they "look away" from, like you mentioned your typing from home. Working from home is not the same as conducting a commercial business out of your home.

Carolyn, good job on Cardio Slam :). that is one of the great things about KCM's workouts,,,,her modifier! A couple that are members of our dog club are bee keepers, on a very small scale. They gave me some honey, which I have not opened yet. I am looking forward to see how it differs from store bought.

Lori, good workouts combo. :). I also hate doing calf work and am glad that Cathe has really not included many actual calf exercises in recent workouts, like she used to in the past.. I am playing around with maybe a rotation that has alternating weeks of Live and the first week of S&S, Live, then first week of FS, Live then first week of FT...etc. I just have to figure out what method to do with the Live workouts, eg Upper/lower splits, with cardio, or total body with cardio etc. Maybe I will alternate those as well. :).

Hi to Judy!

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Monday I did KCM Strength and Stamina Combined Burnout Premix and a 30 minute yoga session. Yesterday I did an hour of indoor cycling.

Deb-Great job on the 10 Pounds Down workout! I plan on doing this one, either today or tomorrow. That green tea powder was the only food type item I've had to return to Amazon. As I recall, I had not opened it yet, so maybe that was why. Usually they give a refund and tell you to discard it.

Lori-I really like the rotation you made! Nice that you have so many Live workouts in there too. I feel the same way as you regarding the bosu ball. I'd like one but I'm not sure I would use it often enough to justify the expense.

Diane Sue-You are right about so many people working from home now. Chris works from home at least one day a week, as do many other people in his office. It's funny because I remember back in the late 90's I had wanted to work from home occasionally, since I had a computer, and it was like I asking for extra vacation days or something :) My manager really balked at it at the time. I only got to work from home once, when I convinced him that there were too many distractions at work and I couldn't focus on a report that needed to be done right away.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Slam! That's another one I want to do again soon.

Valerie-Great job with the biking and hiking! 52 degrees sounds so nice right now!

Have a great day!

Judy

Deb...too funny! Isn’t it a good little workout? I did not start out using 8lbs. The first few times I used 5’s and my arms were tired. I gradually moved to 8 and now when I do it I always use 8’s. I swear when I am done my bis and tris are popping out! This is one of my favorite upper body workouts. Judy, you will like it.

I think the HOA rules were written in decades ago. no idea if they were ever updated or amended until now. it will be hard to get too specific.... then it is subject to interpretation appropriate to the time. when they were written the Internet was a pipe dream! early '80's? Mostly, no one has been bothered by discreet steps "outside the line', but because those were allowed to slide by, then other people push the limits to the extreme. I always worked from a home office when I was in sales and also for transcription, so have never worked inside an office. I know people who work at least one day a week from home. helps a little with traffic congestion, saves all the commute time on the road. many places have the "open office" concept and it is not productive for everyone. DH could not tolerate it. the background noise, chatter etc made it impossible for him to think.

we are going to montana probably tomorrow. we had to get our driveway plowed. it was clear all winter until about a week or 10 days ago, and then it got buried. hopefully it will stay clear now. I should be able to check in most days. it will not be a long trip, probably about a week. it is winter there, and spring here so it is not feeling 100% positive. it is sunny there more of the time but it is colder.
I tried the link I had posted to the CR reports on protein powder and it didn't go where I had intended. CR links don't always work and sometimes content is blocked unless you subscribe online as well as to the print magazine. I HATE it when you copy a link and then it doesn't work right. I had to type inn protein powder again to get to the information. it is not in the latest magazine.

Carolyn, I love to look at the clothes and jewelry everyone wears. Lori, 3 billboards is the first one on my list. I usually like frances mcdormand. I am not big on special effects movies.

This morning I did Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets. My time was 58 minutes with 222 calories burned. My average heart rate was 105 and maximum heart rate 148.

Hello to all and have a wonderful day.

This morning I did Cardio Hits Power Max, 64 minutes, 414 calories, met 5.9, 5,773 steps, heart rate average 138, max 169. I then did Z-cut power yoga crescent and warrior series and cool down, 20 minutes, 49 calories, heart rate 97 average, 127 max, 182 steps. Total time was 84 minutes, 465 calories. My Fit Bit has been doing better lately. It was actually even working pretty well with the yoga and sometimes ahead of map my fitness. I swear it does best with lots of foot work.

Deb, you might check the other Amazing Grass formulas, as they all have different nutrition facts.

Judy, that burnout premix is a good one.

Valerie, I did read some stuff on the protein powders and plant based having more contaminants. I also saw some of the powder names listed. That is why I mentioned that the Bio Chem one is one that I have used a lot.

Good evening ladies...

This morning instead of Cardio Legs I did a complete Lekfit Bounce. Her Bounces alternate between bounce and sculpt. I usually fast forward through the sculpt since I do enough weights already. I enjoyed it and my legs are feeling this workout. I should incorporate the sculpting more often. Time was 46 mins / 411 cal. I am going to do a 20 min Bellicon Bounce tonight.

The snow is really coming down. Our office closed at 3:30pm today. Tomorrow is going to be a mess they are anticipating snow of 12+ for us tonight into the morning.

Diane Sue...I was reading the Yvette thread on VF and someone talks about great the Bosu. I have not ruled it out yet so we will see. Is Zcut Zuzuka?

Judy...tomorrow’s Live is a spin class. I was doing better for a bit spinning but once the holidays came I needed to move my bike to make room for our holiday decorations. Perhaps tomorrow’s class will entice me. :) I think I will like my rotation. Been wanting to get back to doing more Live and this will do it.

Valerie...I would love to work at home. I feel I get more accomplished when I do. Fingers crossed one of those days will be tomorrow! 3 Billboard s is on Amazon already. Not prime we bought it. We will want to watch again so I did not mind buying.

Deb...It was so hard to put a rotation together. I wanted to make sure I worked legs, upper and a total body most weeks. As I go along I am sure I will continue to tweak.

Have a great night all! Hi to Carolyn!

Lori, yes it is Zuzka Light. I think her name has changed once in awhile. I have an older Yoga Flow workout of hers filmed in a resort in Scottsdale Arizona where her name is Zuzana. I have her Z cut abs and the Z cut power yoga. I think the only way to get workouts of hers now is through streaming from her website or the short workouts she has on youtube. Zcut is a pretty active yoga flow with some split jumps and that sort of thing along with basic stretches. I like it. She is pretty motivating when you watch some of the things that she does. She is very fit. I did like the way Yvette used the Bosu. I have had my legs pretty fatigued from balancing through a whole long cardio workout staying predominantly on the Bosu. It was the Bosu that caught my eye when looking at fitness classes on youtube.

Carolyn, nice workout today. I noticed when I did that one on Monday that I have not done that one as is that often. I always have done it by repeating lower 2 or 3 times or upper 2 or 3 times.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. We had an early meeting at the bank, and when I got back, I didn't want to do one. Oh well, always today. :).

Judy, I keep forgetting about that KCM combined workout....need to get that on the list. I saw that Cathe's Live today will be a spin workout....I thought of you. :).

Lori, I liked the JS workout. I am surprised that I don't have DOMS from it. I hope you don't get that predicted snow! You must have really liked 3 Billboards to purchase it after you had seen it. I checked out the trailer.

Valerie, have a safe trip!

Carolyn, nice workout. I want to get back to S&S workouts.

Diane Sue, thanks, I may check out the other Amazing Grass formulas.

Take care,

Today I did Fit Tower Legs, Glutes and Core for 47 minutes and 118 calories. This was not a big calorie burner, but I certainly feel it. I’m sure it’s because I am working my legs in a different way. I always feel barre exercises a lot.

Valerie, I hope you have a safe trip to Montana.

Lori, great job on Lekfit bounce. I can’t imagine driving to work with 17 inches of snow!

Diane Sue, I tried a green powder for a while but I can’t remember the brand. I was trying hard to add more greens to my diet and didn’t always want to make a green smoothie. The powder that I bought had a peppermint flavor and I didn’t like adding it to anything else. I don’t make smoothies as often and I have looked at Amazing Grass a few times in Sprouts. Adding the Bosu to a workout definitely makes it more challenging.

Hello to Judy and Deb.

Deb, I think that I have said it before, but I do not often want to come home from something in the morning and do a workout later. I never feel motivated. I think I am more a creature of the morning habit or nothing at all. I have tried several of Amazing Grass formulas. The main ones I have used is the orac with lots of probiotics and the immunity. I have considered the detox and alkalize. I tried the energy and did not like the flavor. I don't know if you can find them in a store, but Sprouts carries individual serving packets which is a good way to try them out.

Lori, that is a lot of snow. We are in the upper 60's today.

Carolyn, I tried a green smoothie challenge once and bought loads of veggies and did different recipes. I got tired of it, but kept up the 30 days. It was some facebook challenge with an app. I soon learned what veggie recipes for the smoothies that I liked the best. I found many were best with some cinnamon and blueberries added. Chunks of ginger was added to most of them. Anyway, I went back to the greens powders. Amazing grass adds some nice flavors to theirs. I have had quite a few other brands that I just drank with a little water like I would a nasty tasting medicine. I actually like the berry and the tangerine flavors. Vibrant health is okay if I add a bit of stevia. Their stuff tends to be orange pineapple for all of it. The joint vibrance is not so tasty. I think they tried to cover it with flavor because of the tumeric and some other things in it. They have good products, but are very expensive. I still pretty much stick with the Joint Vibrance. Their Total product that is greens and protein is not good tasting at all. I just quit trying to make it taste good. I prefer to use grass fed whey and greens separately. I would like to add a few more Bosu workouts to get in some more crosstraining.
