Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/31

Check in and then I will come back later. I need to take our tax stuff to our CPA. I wish he was closer.
This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Fitness Test for the 3rd time. I raised the weight by 2.5 lbs this time so instead of 15's I used 17.5 # Bowflex weights. This was 34 minutes, heart rate average 112, max 149, 1,101 steps, 216 steps met 6.5.
When I finished I did Body Max #2 doing the step combos and stretch which was 33 minutes, heart rate average 145, max 178, met 7.0, 232 calories, 2,497 steps.
Total time was 67 minutes, calories burned 448, steps 3,598 steps.
I increased reps on a lot of the raw test so have improved and using heavier weights
These moves are each done for 30 seconds in 4 rounds no rests till after each round
Bench press 35,34,37,37 reps 17.5# dbs
push ups (varied as some which are less reps were done on hands and some were varied hands and knees) 30,26,31,21
squat 21,23,29,22 17.5# dbs
prisoner squats 36,34,33,36
shoulder press 27,24,16,22 17.5# dbs (alternating and I forgot on the third round at first doing both at one time)

biceps curls 16,15,14,15 17.5# dbs
pulse curls 1 db 17.5# 20,33,37,36
sit ups 15,13,15,15
scissors with hands under hips head elevated 63,57,58,60
rest and repeat for 4 rounds total

Today’s workout was Lower Body Circuit. That was 40 minutes and 259 calories burned. My average heart rate was 122 and maximum heart rate was 176. I also did the Bonus Abs for 10 minutes and an additional 37 calories.

Diane Sue, that’s wonderful that you can see your fitness improvement with the Raw Test. I love the step combos in Body Max 2. I just came back from the CPA for our tax forms. Fortunately the office is not far away.

Valerie, good that you could do Stacked Sets Upper Body even with the non functional step. It is frustrating when you don’t have the weights that you want to use.

Hello to Deb, Lori, and Judy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Good morning,

Today I did Lite PHA2 again, 51 minutes, 279 calories. Also had over 13,000 steps yesterday. I think it's the highest I have done.

Carolyn, the 10 Day Cardio Slimdown sounds like a good series.

Diane Sue, I find that I do not burn a lot of calories doing KB workouts. I feel really worked when doing them, but am always surprised at the low calorie burn.. I am enjoying Cardio Party as well. I don't think I have done Rev'd Up Rumble yet.

Valerie, that is go great that you are able to see all that wildlife right on your own property! Long trip but at least uneventful. Better that you were able to go back and turn off the water....like you said, for peace of mind. I hate when I remember something that makes us have to go back. We went back 20 mile one time because I couldn't remember if I turned the coffee pot off. Of course when we got home it was off.

Judy, glad you knee/leg are better. I'm with you...no tuck jumps!

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Deb you are so right about the coffee pot/curling iron/ stovetop etc. haven't we all done it. will drive yo crazy  we turn off water at the input to the house. if a pipe or connection should break inside, only the water in the pipe would run out and not refill. not great but not a big deal compared to damage if water ran out for a week because the system kept refilling. we turn off a lot of power also, so if the power went out, the system would not do an auto reset to 70 degrees. ours does not retain any memory. it is not that cold here, so most of the year we can turn furnace off entirely and not worry about freezing pipes.

we saw the elk again this morning but not quite so close. there is a big protected wildlife area we are close to so this is part of the Yellowstone north slope elk herd. deer especially are a driving hazard.

did not feel well today so skipped working out, only a shopping trip but feeling better now. hopefully a hike or ski tomorrow.

Carolyn great job today. We have used the same cpa for years. Even when we lived 100 miles away. We just took care of it when we came to visit family. I ran into road work which was annoying. I chose a different route coming back home today.

Deb, nice job on PHA 2 and the steps. I do not get 10,000 steps often. I did get 11,358 yesterday. Between the workout , housework and grandchildren I manage extra steps. It is always nice that Fit Bit adds more calories in an adjustment when I get over 10,000 steps. I always feel like I get a good workout with kettlebell, but I think the devices just do not pick up well because they rely a lot on foot movement and steps. I am getting where I don't worry about it too much. Kelly has Fit some kettlebell into some of her Raw workouts, but they are mixed in with weights and other cardio. She was discussing her ideas for upcoming workouts on her Coffey time online live today. Some great ideas coming up. Rev'd up rumble is lighter than a lot of Cathe kickbox workouts. I guess because of the low impact. I like it though. No dread with it.

Valerie, that is so nice th a that you see the elk in your yard. Could you use a st a bility ball for the upper body weight moves instead of a step. I don't have upper body stacked sets yet. I will get it soon though.

Judy, 4 Day Split Kickbox and light PHA would be a good mix together. It sounds fun.

I did pull overs on the floor but I don't get very good ROM, flat that way. the step is so small that I cant support my neck or my lower back, and sideways it is so narrow my shoulders fall off. a real step is about $69, not huge cost, so I will order one and bring it over here next time. I have a ball here and that is an idea, I will try it next time. I want the step for push ups, and use as a bench. I have a lot of extra risers at the other house so all I need is the basic step. I knew this small step wasn't great, never could use it much, but it also flips up if you lean on one side, either long side or short side, so is unstable that way too. it will get re purposed as a step stool in the garage.

Today I did the Yoga workout from the 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme Series. It’s a power yoga with some deep stretching at the end. This was 40 minutes and 90 calories burned. I will probably choose another yoga workout next time as this one didn’t focus enough on what I needed. The sequence of movements seemed off to me. I had an appointment for my mammogram this morning. I am back on a normal schedule now after going every 6 months for the last 6 years :).

Judy, I found some of Chris’ Slimdown Xtreme workouts are on YouTube if you want to look at them. They were done for Exercise TV.

Diane Sue, I feel the same about Rev’d Up Rumble. It’s easier but there’s no dread factor with doing it.

Deb, maybe you can wear weighted gloves to help get your heart rate up with kickboxing.

Hello to Valerie and Lori.

This morning I started with Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Sculpting Overload vs2, 33 minutes, 2,918 steps, heart rate
average 137, max 161, 218 calories, met 7.0. I used my 12# vest for this. Then when I went back to do another workout VHX streaming would not let me get anything. I unplugged the Roku and spent too much time messing with it. So, I did Strong and Sweaty Boot camp no upper time saver which has some upper in the compound moves, 37 minutes, 259 calories, met 8.0, heart rate average 129, max 168, 1,979 steps. I finished with Strong and Sweaty bonus abs, 13 minutes, heart rate 109 average, 132 max, met 5.0, 60 calories, 242 steps and Lite extended stretch #2, 11 minutes, 31 calories. Total time was 94 minutes, 568 calories, 5,139 steps. I chose to limit upper body as I still want to do an upper body workout this week since I did Lite stacked legs on Monday. Maybe I will do Ramped Up Upper or one of Kelly's. I will see as tomorrow my husband is off and I am not sure if I will have as much time since we have things to do.

Valerie, pullovers work well on the stability ball. I have done push ups on the ball. I think it is harder and doing it on the floor would maybe be a better option.

Carolyn, sometimes we just need those no dread factor workouts. I helps when I am not feeling a workout to begin with and I get to enjoy it. That is great that you are back on a yearly schedule with the mammogram. I don't remember when my next one is, but I am sure they will be calling and sending out a card. I feel like it is not too far away. I think I did my physical in the summer sometime before I had that colonoscopy in August on my birthday .

Congrats Carolyn on going to annual on mamms. I really hate the process. every 6 months would be stressful. I have had plenty of call backs for repeats and once for an ultrasound but everything has checked out OK. this last time I felt like the tech finally got it done well the first time. my pacer is always in the picture and its an extra bit of pushing around to keep it out of the way.

we went into Yellowstone today to look at critters . loads of bison and elk, two very sad looking young bison hobbling along one on an obviously broken leg. also pronghorns. we intended to ski. there is quite a bit of snow left but conditions were worse than terrible. soft snow with a crust on top but hollow underneath. we wanted to be here earlier when roads are groomed but didn't make it. grooming is long over. this was so unworkable we only went a couple hundred yards and back. would not have been possible to snowshoe either. almost every step broke thru to hip deep. and trying to push out your arm went in up to the shoulder.
I do tricep push ups on the step because its the only way I've been able to keep my elbows tucked. I also do regular push ups holding small weights. getting my hands flat is so difficult. I think I've done pull overs on a ball before so that may work until next trip when I have the step. I don't usually do a lot of workouts here but its too snowy to mt bike much, too late to ski, and too early to hike very far. we may not stay as long as planned. they had a rough winter here, especially February into march.

Yesterday I went for a short walk with my neighbor then I did a short indoor ride. Today I did a 45 minute Spinerval and plan on doing some stretching tonight. Tomorrow I'm starting an active rest week. I work 6 out of the next 7 days so I probably won't be posting too much. My shifts are getting longer and I have some 30 plus hour weeks coming. Definitely a little more than the part time I was planning on but I am liking the pay checks.

Deb-Awesome job with PHA2 and with getting so many steps!

Carolyn-That's wonderful that you are going back to annual mammograms! I found the Slimdown Xtreme workouts on YouTube and previewed a couple, thanks for letting me know they were there. They look like ones I would like. I found a set on Amazon for $19.99 and ordered them.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry the VHX streaming stopped working. I haven't had any issues with the Raw streaming yet but I'm not using it as much. Nice job adding in Strong & Sweaty Boot Camp and Bonus Abs.

Valerie-It sounds like it was a rough winter in Montana. That is sad about the bison :( It's too bad you might have to cut your trip short, but I don't blame you under the circumstances. It sounds like you won't be able to do the things you wanted to.

Hi to Lori!

Have a great weekend!

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Such a busy week at work. I just today went through the posts for this week. I have had some really great workout days. I am trying to be creative with my choices to mix things up with Chelsie. I get my SB rotation workout in before she arrives. She arrives like clockwork so I know when I need to be finished with the SB. Monday I did a 40 min bounce at lunch and took GiGi for a walk in the evening. Tuesday I began w a SB Upper body workout, w Chelsie a Fit Sugar Hiit, then a San Fran Bounce which we used 2lb hand weights, plus I used 3lb ankle weights. Chelise actually wore ankle weights. First time for her!! She was very proud! :). We then did a LEKfit 10 lb upper workout. Wednesday, was SB Adv lower body quick target that really works the hamstrings. With Chelsie was a BBS Dance Bounce, a Jumpsport interval and we used ankle weights, and finished with a BBS jumprope that we did on the rebounder and held hand weights while pretending we had a jumprope. Was fun. Today we only did SB Upper Body 4. This was a great upper body workout. Really worked everything and felt we were spent after this workout. Tomorrow my plan is to do the new Kickboxing Live. It is 40 mins which works well for our morning workout. I usually do a 20 to 30 min SB workout then Chelsie and I workout for about 40 to 45 mins.

Diane Sue...I have been using Turbo Tax for a while now. Works for us. Quick and easy. Great on the fitness test!! Good for you. My membership to raw is on pause. So I will do the workouts in my mind thru you. :)

Valerie...I get the piece of mind. So many times I would leave the house for work and then could not remember if I shut something off. Drives me insane until I get home. I worry about a fire and our pets! I completely understand the fustration of not having the proper equipment. My husbands says to me all the time, why do you need that?? The answer is because I do...then he rolls his eyes. :).

Deb...You have done great with workouts. How do you feel? I plan to update the live list over the weekend. It has been a while. I am planning to cancel Live this month and see how I do. Might not last long since I love seeing the previews she posts.

Carolyn...I am going to look on Youtube for those workouts. I am curious. I have never done a Chris Freytag workout. I have heard of her and I know she is a great instructor.

Judy...glad your knee is better!

Have a great night all. I am so looking forward to this weekend. After this week, I want to do absolutely nothing.

Judy, I think that the workouts on Amazon are the original 10 Pound Slimdown, not the Xtreme. They are still good, just shorter. 20 minutes instead of 40.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Valerie, that is a smart idea to turn the water off at that point, to minimize the damage if there was a break in the pipes. I can't imagine the damage if it was running like that for a week. I remember once calling m cousin from the airport in Philadelphia, ( we were going to California) and asking her to go to my house to make sure the iron was off. Of course it was. Hope you are better today. Maybe the change in elevation? Sorry you have to cut your trip short.

Diane Sue, I don't really pay too much attention to steps anymore either. I like when I get over 10,000, but do not fret when I don't. The KCM Raw workouts sound really good. Still want to see how things go with LITE and others before investing in that or Cathe Live.

Carolyn, great that you are back on the normal Mamo schedule. That yoga sounds interesting, something different, but if it doesn't work the areas you want, I guess it would not be a favorite. I agree, I need to order a new pair of weighted gloves. My Cathe ones are no good anymore. I think the zippers rusted, from being in the basement where it can get quite humid, even with a dehumidifier.

Judy, with all those hours, your step count will be a workout in itself!

Lori, great workouts! It sounds like you and Chelsie have so much fun together. The workouts I have picked ( PHA2 and Cardio Party so far) have felt good. I go really light on the lower body stuff in PHA 2, and modify anywhere my hip feels like it is going into a bad move area, if that makes sense.

Take care,

Deb the builder didn't do a very good job on the water system here. we need a pressurizer on the system even though we are well below the water reservoir and should not need one. we have neighbors who've had outside leaks in their systems. outside , but inside could be a disaster. its just a hand crank, so when gone for a while we turn it off. there is not that much water in the inside pipes as long as they don't refill.
we haven't decided yet how long we will stay this time but hope to returning at end of this month . there is more snow left here than we thought but not good enough to ski on. fun riding will not be possible for a while. we checked out some spots yesterday and it will be a while yet. they had a stretch of extremely cold weather followed by warm and rain on frozen ground, like in the Midwest. caused flooding and road damage many places.
our fault for delaying this trip so long. we are still enjoying it but may go back sooner than wed planned.

I take meds to avoid altitude sickness. they make me pee more, always at night and I end up not getting decent sleep.
I stopped taking it after being here several days and it was better last night.

did a hike today, a few miles, decent elevation gain. 3 hours RT.

This morning I did Upper Body Circuit for 45 minutes and 238 calories burned. My average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate was 143.

Lori, great workouts with Chelsie. The two of you seem to have a nice routine going. Chris Freytag is a good instructor. She builds her routines in small steps allowing you to maintain whatever level that matches your abilities. I did her workouts often when I first started working out with weights at home.

Deb, I have two pairs of .5# (each glove) weighted gloves with open fingers that I sometimes use with cardio workouts. One came with a kickboxing workout and I think the other set came with a Leslie Sansone workout. They are not adjustable, but are very easy to use. I have seen similar gloves on Amazon.

Valerie, I like doing pull-overs on the ball. That should work very well until you get another step.

Judy, I think that you will like the 10 Pound Slimdown workouts. At 20 minutes they are short enough to add to something else if you want to do so. I think they are the same 20 minute workouts that are included in my set. She calls them recovery workouts.

Hello to Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did Lite Cardio Party mish mosh mix of boxing and blasts (all blasts are done 3 times between boxing)
38 minutes, met 8.40, 248 calories, heart rate average 139, max 167, 3,747 steps. I then did Strong & Sweaty Ramped Up Upper Body, 52 minutes, 329 calories, met 7.50, 1,403 steps, heart rate average 106, max 146. Total time was 90 minutes, calories burned 577 calories. 5,150 steps.

Valerie, that is sad seeing a bison hobbling with a broken leg. Nice that you can enjoy the wildlife creatures :) Push ups are also easier for me with dumbbells or my perfect push up stands. I used the step for some of mine today.

Judy, you are getting almost a full work week. I imagine the checks are nice. I would think that it is easier knowing it is temporary. I have only had problems with VHX a couple of times. The other time I just rebooted the Roku and it started working. It was fine today, but I decided on something else this morning. I was in this indecision state of mind and decided I did not have time to waste so went for what I had originally temporarily planned.

Carolyn, I was looking at weight gloves on Title Boxing where I got my 1.5# gloves and they had weight plates for gloves. I am not sure what they went in though. As the glove page also had boxing gloves on it.

Lori, my daughter and her husband used Turbo Tax this year. The CPA that they used before messed up and they had a whole lot of problems last year. We should do something like that. It cost us 400 dollars just to have the taxes done and we have everything itemized and ready. It did not used to be that much.
You have really been doing well with the workouts.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, today will be agility class.

Valerie, that's too bad about the lack of skiing and riding capability, but is sounds like you will be seeing a lot of wildlife. So sad about the injured bison. :(

Carolyn, good job on Upper Body Circuit. Is that from a Cathe series?

Diane Sue, nice workout. I have never tried any of those mish mosh premixes. Did this one have a lot of high impact and/or step? I know the Cardio party Calorie Crush has step in it. We have used the same CPA for as long as John has been in practice ( 40+years)...and even though he is retired now, he still does taxes for a few of his clients.

Lori, there is someone local giving a free rebounding class on April 16...it is just around the corner from us. Unfortunately, that is right when I am in the middle of Ike's class. It would have been fun to just try it out.

Hi to Judy

Take care,

we also have used the same accounting guy for taxes for a long time. his prices creep up every year but we will keep him until he retires. he may be, he is getting up in age.

yes Deb we are not sure how long to stay. the weather isn't bad but there is old snow sticking around so riding is not good. trails not open yet, and snow is sticking in shady spots so we would need to stop often. its not worth driving a long way and then only getting to ride a mile before getting into snow that requires walking every little while. hiking is limited. the hike yesterday was one of the few spots that was mostly melted out. still some snow patches, but walkable. definitely not solid snow. we will probably do another couple days and then head back.

bison have a tough life. they are hardy animals. sad but these two will not survive long. the first bear or wolf will have them for lunch. they can barely walk. no way to guess what happened.
