Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/3

Hi Everyone,

Sunday afternoon I did a Peloton ride, Monday I did a STS Disc 1, Chest, Shoulders & Biceps and yesterday I did another Peloton ride. This week I work today, tomorrow and Saturday. It's been extremely cold here this week but not too much snow. Right now it's 7 degrees. I picked a bad month to go back to work, lol! I'd much stay inside and not go anywhere when it's this cold.

Deb-It's supposed to warm up here over the weekend and hopefully it will stay that way. I did the Advantage Multi treatment on our kitties yesterday. Like Valerie mentioned, I have to apply it to the back of their head/neck area and I have to keep them separated for 30 minutes after the application, according to the directions on the package. I usually try to keep them separated for at least an hour and I always do it on a day when I know I will be home to keep an eye on them.

Valerie-I bet you do miss your kitty :( I know how that feels. I still miss Tiger, Misty and Echo and think of them all the time. It sounds like a good idea to delay your trip for a couple of weeks.

Diane Sue-I'm not familiar with Supreme 90 Day, but it sounds like a good program. Great workouts this week!

Carolyn-I'm glad the tornadoes missed your area. Those storms were devastating :( Great job with the Muscle Max premix.

Lori-Wow, that is a lot of snow! I hope that was the last one for the season. Great job finishing the rotation! The new iPad sounds nice. It's great that you do so much with videos. I really need to get into that more with my iPad.

Have a great day!

Judy

Valerie, I remember walking to school in Colorado bundled up and the discomfort of trying to walk. Also being too warm in class. Cable companies do it because they make money and don't care. They throw in something decent to hook people. I have better things to do with my time than to be bored to death with something I don't like.
It sounds like a good idea to hold off going to MT yet.

Lori, nice work completing your rotation. Gertie loved the snow when she was a pup. Now se heads out, finds the clearest spot and heads back to the door and let's me know she wants back in now! I didn't know Game of Thrones had zombies. I have never seen it. I see posts by my nephew who loves it. I saw a recipe yesterday for air fried carrots. The instant pot works well for cheesecake and I kind of like that I am making a smallet one so I don't eat too much. I have made a couple of Keto cheese cakes. I wanted salmon last night and realized that I was out.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Valerie, that sounds really cold! It is 10 degrees here now. I would not want to have driven all that way to not be able to get up the driveway.

Carolyn, good job on Muscle Max. That is one of Cathe's best! Assume you are doing the monthly rotation?

Diane Sue, that movie sounds awful! I wonder if it was made in his early years, before any of the good ones. Never heard of putting the flea stuff all the way down the back....like you said, only between the shoulder blades.

Lori, glad you are enjoying the new iPad. I don't understand why they are not at least giving some update to the dedicated fans of SB? and then to turn off comments when someone asks a question? why keep the page up at all? LOL on your husbands comments about his what happened to his wife.

Judy, yes, this is a bad time to have to go to work, but it will be nice when you are in the garden section in the spring/summer. I will have to use the flea stuff on Kylee right before putting them in their crates at night. This will give it about 5-6 hours to dry, and be absorbed. For Ike, we got a new collar, that is supposed to last up to 8 months, with a minimum amount of product going into their system. Basically, they have reinvented the old flea collar. I am trying on him, but can't use on Kylee with him biting her neck all the time. We can't even keep her regular collar/tags on her while she is in the house.

Take care,

No workout for me today. I need to work on my Wednesday schedule to make sure my workouts fit. I should have done cardio this morning, but again I didn’t get up early enough. I could have fit it in, but would have interfered with my Husband’s morning routine as he gets ready for work. I try not to do that.

Deb, yes I am doing the March rotation. It looked interesting enough to keep me engaged this month. As always, I will make substitutions when I feel like doing something else.

Judy, great job with the Peloton rides and STS Chest, Shoulders, and Biceps. Isn’t that the one with all the push ups? Having to go out for work in the extreme cold is hard. The good thing is that it will be over soon and you can enjoy the garden center.

Diane Sue, nice job with Raw Intervals, Raw Intervals, Supreme 90 Day Legs, and Barre Amped Stretch. I have never heard of Supreme 90 Day workouts either.

Lori, great job with finishing the rotation! It’s very strange the way that Suzanne Bowen has completely disappeared from communicating and doing workouts. It’s been going on for a long time now. I’m impressed with the way that you are cooking and trying new recipes. I love a honey dijon glaze on salmon.

Hello to Valerie. Have a wonderful day everyone.

I always think movie stars are like everyone else.. they have a mortgage and car payments, and sometimes end up in less than stellar productions to pay the bills. or they appeared in lower quality productions before they were well known, and old movies get played because now they are well known. or something that sounded good on paper does not end up looking like it sounded. I assume many don't have the luxury of turning out a good paying part even if it isn't ideal. I don't blame anyone but don't want to waste hours on something I don't enjoy. No zombies. no musicals. no mindless violence.

when I was a kid in Wisconsin, I walked to school. we had to be so layered and bundled we could hardly move. clothing is much better now, less bulky and warmer but I don't have enthusiasm for leaving 45 degrees and sunny for -20 and snowing. no contest there. we will get there, just not as early as planned.

Fleas and ticks are adaptable critters and evolution is at work. they will gradually become immune to what used to kill them, so we need to keep moving on also, to new treatments.

all this talk of salmon with honey mustard glaze is motivating me to try it. DH fusses about salmon so maybe that will provide enough flavor so he will eat it.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Step 2, 40 minutes, met 8.3, 294 calories, 3,655 steps, heart rate average 150, max 185. I wore 1# gloves for the last part with boxing and standing abs. I then did Supreme 90 Day Core Dynamics, 31 minutes with the warm up and stretch that I am already getting tired of, 125 calories, met 4.7, heart rate average 95, max 157, around 333 steps as I forgot to turn on the Fit bit at the start. I ended with Cathe Lite stretch 2, 11 minutes, 3.5 met, 31 calories. Total time was 81 minutes, 450 calories. PHA came before I started, but since I did legs yesterday and have some mild soreness, I thought it best to wait till tomorrow.

Deb, I think that that may have been one of those movies that I found on vudu saying still in theaters watch now. Kind of a way to milk a bit more money out of it. It was a May 2015 release. The story is that Arnold is a farmer whose daughter is infected with a virus that transforms her into a zombie and he is trying to save her. When I went back and looked, they did not quite make the budget that was spent to do it at the box office.

One movie that we found that we really liked and had never heard of was Beyond the Mask. We have watched it quite a few times and shared it with family. It has some history in it and characters like Ben Franklin and a bit of time travel. Also have watched Undercover Grandpa which is funny and clean, with old stars in it. Also have enjoyed rewatching The Librarian:Quest for the Spear. I know we all have different tastes though.

Valerie, yes, I agree with the movie stars and the need to make some money. Most people spend what they have and need more. When something comes up they are in need of funds whether they are making a lot or a little income. Yes, I was thinking that about warm clothing now being able to insulate better without so much bulk. I used to get stuck with wool sweaters and itch like crazy. Now I just avoid wool. As a child I was never much of a complainer, I just scratched.

I was going to make salmon last night and really wanted it. There was none so I bought some at Sprouts meat counter today. It is pretty good salmon as long as I don't by the wild. The wild has too many bones in it and I am betting the color it because it is pretty red. I buy the Atlantic Salmon. I picked up some Suja apple cider vinegar probiotic drinks. I am loving the lemon cayenne one that has ginger juice in it. I bought a couple of the Suja greens juice drinks as well. They don't add sugar but the more fruity ones like the green juice one that has banana and pineapple in it has quite a few grams of sugars in it. The probiotic apple cider vinegar ones have a bit of stevia.
I picked up a new flavor of Primal Kitchen collagen fuel bar, chocolate hazelnut. It is really good, but I swear my jaw popped when I tried to bit it. It is chewy, with nut crunch, but tough to bite a piece off of. I was worried at first that I could have broke a crown. After that I nibbled off small bites. This was the best one I have tasted. Most of the others always tended to taste like stale nuts to me.

Carolyn, Iooked over the March rotation, but I think I am going to stick with whatever I come up with weekly. Tomorrow will be Lite PHA 2, but I want to look over the premixes and moves tonight. Then Friday will be cardio and Saturday will be the chest, shoulders, and triceps (I think that is it) Supreme 90 Day workout. I am not doing the whole rotation of it. I am just doing some of the workouts. I saw at least one of them on YouTube. It is kind of a work at your own level, they do different variations, no equipment except dumbbells, some use a chair, and some use the stability ball. I don't like doing bulgarian split squats on the stability ball so I used the high step. They give a suggested range of reps so some end before others.

Did a stacked upper body pre mix and 6 pack abs for about 40 min total. it is snowing again. Blech. we should be done with this by now. did grocery shopping so if its awful tomorrow I don't have to drive anywhere. looking outside its hard to believe we were mountain biking yesterday.

oh yes... the wool clothing! my god, I used to itch. even now with merino wool, I can't get my brain around trying it because of the years of itching and scratching with wool on my skin. wool socks are OK but it stops there. I have used synthetics happily and no matter what anyone says about it being itch free, I don't think I can tolerate wool on direct contact.

Today I did All Out Low Impact HiiT for 39 minutes and 265 calories burned. My average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Diane Sue, it’s great that you are enjoying your re-visit to the Supreme 90 Day workouts. I don’t blame you for not buying the wild salmon from Sprouts if you suspect that they have added color. The natural color of wild salmon does vary with the different types from almost white to deep red. I prefer the flavor and fat content of sockeye salmon which has a deep color.

Valerie, nice job with Stacked Sets Upper Body and Six Pack Abs.

Lori, I was curious about air fryers so I did some research. I didn’t realize that they work like convection ovens. That explains why your brussel sprouts and salmon are so tasty. Roasting brussel sprouts turned them into a totally different vegetable for us!

Hello to Judy, and Deb.

Carolyn can you share any other things about air fryers? If you got one, would you go generous size like Lori did? or are you not at that point yet. roasting vegies is much better than boiling or steaming.

one of my favorite very easy vegie sides is red bell (or orange or yellow) peppers, red onion and corn sautéed in a splash of olive oil. no measurement . slice pepper and onion into thin pieces, done in a few minutes. no mushy vegies! frozen corn is better than canned. so sweet and delicious and goes well with just about anything.

salmon looks tastier when it's that dark orange color. I think it depends on what the fish feed on that generates the color. have frozen sockeye salmon on for tonight. I will try the honey mustard version you all have mentioned. I got a deli chicken yesterday so if DH makes a fuss, chicken for back up. I want to strangle DH when he makes a fuss about salmon. even when I make some for myself and he gets something else, he nags because he can smell it.

Damn it is snowing here again. we might need to shovel again. UGH. endless this year.

Valerie, I didn’t do in depth research since I don’t plan to buy an air fryer, but I was curious. My WW leader/coach really likes hers. I would get the more generous size since most of my vegetables fill up the sheet pan. You don’t want to crowd the food in the fryer. Right now I am content to to continue using the oven.

This morning I did Cathe Lite Metabolic Time saver Cardio Crush, 23 minutes, met 8.6, 153 calories, 1,715 steps, heart rate 131 average, 184 max. I made Gertie a vet appointment. I cannot get her in till Tuesday. They could have done Monday afternoon but that time slot is when I have to pick up my grandson. I just have been worried so much over this. She really is not scratching, no redness, doesn't seem to be spreading (I don't think) I have been brushing and looking. I have researched. I can find nothing that helps. Still using the medicated products on her. She seems like herself. I played with her awhile throwing her toy and her running downstairs to retrieve it and then after he brushing and filing she came back up with her toy wanting to play some more when I was starting my workout. So, she is not feeling sick. I need to be sure there is nothing serious wrong. My husband keeps saying maybe it is because the air is so dry from the heater running so much. I don't really think she would lose that much hair from dry air though, and I still am thinking the Frontline was not quite right the last time I applied it. I need to find out about that too. I didn't do it this month.

Valerie, I didn't know Merino wool was not supposed to itch. I have a couple of sweaters that are a blend of wool and nylon and they still make me itch. I don't think I would try it and I wouldn't put on wool socks. I am sure I would be itching like crazy or get an allergic rash. I do not like canned vegetables. I buy them for my husband because he does not like fresh. I mentioned the color as I have seen small print in the store adds saying color added under the salmon.

Carolyn, my microwave oven hood is supposed to be a convection oven as well. I have never gotten the convection oven to work on it. I got the manual off of the internet and tried all kinds of buttons and stuff. It is rather unusual as it has a dial and buttons and took me a bit to figure out how to use the microwave part when we moved here. I had a convection combo oven at our last home. It was nice. I used to have one of those Nu Wave ovens. It was okay for some things, but I did not care for it for baking. My daughter had given it to me when an oven quit.

Good afternoon,

No workout yesterday.

Carolyn, I completely understand what happened yesterday, once the schedule is messed up, it's hard to get a workout in. Good job today on All Out Low Impact.

Valerie, yes, they keep saying at the vet that the old thoughts that fleas and ticks are only around in spring, summer and fall is out the window. They said that ticks have been found to be able to live at 35 degrees...ugh. Like you, we used to wear those all over snow suits, that you could hardly move in. Like the ones the younger brother wears in the movie " Christmas Story".

Diane Sue, that movie sounds awful! Those others you mentioned sound interesting. I will have to see if they are available on Prime. Those drinks sound interesting. Good that you are getting Gertie to the vet. Just for peace of mind, making sure it is nothing serious. If you think it may have been the Frontline, maybe look into that Seresto collar. Like I mentioned, I bought one for Ike, will see how it goes. I won't be putting it on until maybe May, unless it gets very warm here in April.

Hi to Lori & Judy,

Take care,

We used to use insect bombs in our house once or twice a year. would set one off, leave the house for a couple hours, then air it out thoroughly when back. we used all available flea products on our dog consistently, but if there was one flea in the house it would find me and bite me again and again. DH either never got bitten or did not notice it but bites would last for weeks on me. OUr climate is milder here so it might slow fleas down but doesn't stop them. the kitties never got fleas like our dog but we still used frontline, advantage, revolution, whatever the vet said worked best. flea collars ( this is a long time ago) , powders were only so-so prevention. I used to wash the dog, wash bedding and vacuum like a maniac but still had to use an insect bomb sometimes. especially after he'd gone to a kennel! even the car upholstery was a hiding spot for fleas. he rode in the back seat. I love dogs but the flea business was a trial for me.

did Rev'd up rumble and one section of Stacked upper body today. It snowed again today but is melting quickly.

I agree, best catch things right away if you don't know what's going on with a pet.
For some reason wool socks are OK for me, maybe foot skin is not that sensitive. sweaters, and especially baselayers are made from merino wool. expensive. supposed to work well. but I stick to synthetic. I don't want to spend a lot to find out I'll be scratching. back long ago, age of dinosaurs, backpacking and hiking gear was wool because synthetics had not been invented yet. I had issues then.

Good evening ladies,

No workout today. Ended up not sleeping very well. Woke up and immediatley set the alrm for a longer time. Was planning to bounce at lunch, but never did. When you don’t sleep well it affects your day. :(

Judy...great rides. I can see you really enjoying the Peloton workouts. I have seen the app advertised and it looks like a lot of fun and a tough workout. Oh yes what a week to start working. It has been extremely cold here too.

Diane Sue...poor Gertie. Hope she is better. I get so upset when one of our animals is not feeling well. Game Of Thrones has “white walkers” which are pretty much are frozen zombies! None the less I love GOT! Good to know you have made cheesecake in the instant pot. I have bought all oganic ingredients other than the little cornstarch it takes. Can’t find an organic brand. I am looking forward to it. I too like that it is small and I won’t be eating it all week. That movie sounds like something I would love. I like history and time travel. I enjoyed the short lived series Timeless. It was only on for 2 seasons. I watched it a couple of times now. I like you put the descriptions in your workouts. Looking at all the planks in the Raw Step workout this will be one I will make a mental note never too.

Deb...my husband is loving all the cooking I have been doing. My son too! When I put GiGi’s flea and tick I put between the shoulders, above the tail..then a straigt line up her back. This is how I was always taught with Flea and tick. Never realized not all products are this way. We use K9 Advantix II. I probably should read the instructions. We too use all year long. Yup!!! Just like A Christmas Story. Too funny.

Valerie...the Cosori is a 5.8qt AF and it is a good size for what we want to use it for. For our salmon the glaze was quite easy...salt and pepper the salmon. Then mix together 1 tbls of each...melted butter, mustard (I used Brad’s wholegrain) and honey. Spread this on top and that is it. Could not be easier. Thanks on the veggie info. I love frozen corn!

Carolyn...yes. An AF is pretty much like a convection oven but better. We have a convection and love it but the AF is quicker and food is crispier. Oh and like you mentioned...roasted brussell sprouts are amazing!! That is why we like the larger size and square shape of the pan. We eat a lot of vegetables. Gives us plenty of room. it still is small compared to a sheet pan but large for an AF. The next time I try the glaze going to use a dijon to compare.

Have a great night all...going to bed early.

I am picking up my granddaughter from school later this morning. Time will be limited today. I love spending time with her. She is 11.

Lori, Raw Just step and Step 2 do not have planks. Step 3 is like step boxing. Maybe you saw the planks on Supreme 90 day core? I generally sub Tapioca powder for corn starch. I haven't seen a cheese cake recipe calling for corn starch. I generally use all ingredients too. Sleep makes a huge difference in functioning. We watched Timeless and really liked it. It is always disappointing when enjoying a series and they stop making anymore.

Valerie, I was just telling my husband that maybe we should spray the yard now. It is warming up a bit and chances of rain and storms. My husband hates spending time outdoors, particularly evenings. Mosquitos and bugs seem to love him and he has terrible reactions.

Deb, I had looked up Dr Dodd and every time I tried to scroll it would stop and give me a sign up page. I was hoping to read some of the blogs, but I think those stopped. I will keep that collar in mind.

Good morning,

Babysitting this morning from 6:30 until just a bit ago.

Valerie, we have to do a flea bomb at the training hall once a year. We actually use 10 of them! For some reason, wool does not bother me at all.

Lori, yes, sleep is so important to how you feel for the day. Maybe because I have only been getting about 5 hours a night, all I want to do is eat and read all day. It sounds like you have switched to all organic foods? What is Timeless about? Saw that this was the LIVE workout yesterday: Lower Body Barre and Weights” LIVE...I thought of you.

Diane Sue, I didn't realize you could sub tapioca for corn starch. Good to know. Strange about Dr Dodd...I am on her mailing list and get articles once in a while.
