Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/25

Cardio, abs and a store trip for me today. I need to clean house. Tonight we will probably go out for dinner since it is our 45th anniversary.

Deb, that sounds like a good live cardio workout. No botedom there :) That is great that she showed modifiers. When I had my surgery they told me to drink 72 ounces of water daily at the least. I have no problem at all with that. I ordered the mediterranean olive oil from Amazon today to see if I can get rid of this coughing. It is supposed to have an antihistamine affect. It will be here tomorrow, but I may go to Sprouts and see if they have any of the North American Herb and Spuce P75 brand. I didnt get much sleep again and niether did my husband. He was tired when he left.

Judy I have been eyeing Amy Ross' drop set strength. I need to set that one out to do. Today is cardio and abs for me.

Judy...this morning I subbed in Linda's 100 Rep Glute Challenge instead of the glute target scheduled. I used 1.5 ankle weights and OH MY! I am feeling it already. I fatigued a couple of times and was so grateful for the child's pose at the end! Thanks for posting the playlist. I will be doing more of these.

This morning I did Fit Tower Total Body which was 62 minutes and 269 calories burned. My average heart rate was 113 and maximum heart rate 164. I was surprised by the maximum heart rate, but I could feel that it was elevated after doing uneven squats off the step. There was another move that really got my heart rate up, but I don’t remember which one.

Deb, good workout choice. I have no problem drinking enough water although that wasn’t always the case. I stopped drinking diet sodas and gradually increased water consumption. I did better drinking it through a straw when I was trying to drink more.

Judy, schools are very different places these days and I hate the fear and stress that has developed. I really worry about my grandchildren as they get older and move up in school.

Diane Sue, you are really working through those Z Cut workouts. It is nice to have something different to try. I hope your allergies get better soon.

Lori, 100 rep glutes sounds painful! Great job with that.

Valerie, moving and stacking that wood was all he workout needed. You earned a rest.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Today's workout was Z Cut Power Cardio disc 1 workout 2, 28 minutes, met 6.0, 185 calories, followed by the bonus abs, 12 minutes (with demos which I did without demos it is 9 minutes)50 calories, met 3.8, heart rate average 104, max 139. I then did Kelly Coffey's Step Boxing workout # 1 wearing 1.5# gloves, 33 minutes, 218 calories, met 6.0 heat rate 139 average max, 168. I did not get the heart rate from workout 1 because I somehow stopped my Fit Bit. I used Map My Fitness which is pretty good with cardio. Fit Bit was about 5 more that MMF on Kelly's workout.. Total time was 73 minutes, 453 calories.
I was going to do 2 Z cuts, but I started coughing and wretching at the end, stepped on my dog's foot trying to run for the bathroom. Once the coughing was settled I was okay though. So far I am liking the power strength more than the cardio, but then I have only done two of the cardio workouts, so it is too early to say.
Z Cut cardio time challenge
10 prisoner get ups (had a tough time keeping my hands behind my head)
20 sumo squat jumps
30 side lunge jumps
40 skaters (she touches down to the floor with these)
50 pendulums
60 high knee jumps to planks (she does these in groups of 20 with brief rest and this is where I started really losing it and had to take a bit longer break before the last 20)
70 Plyo jumps (easy after the 60 knee and plank segment)
I did not stretch here because I planned on more cardio
Z Cut abs 2 rounds 4 exercises
5 ab splitters (really 3 moves as a V sit touch toes, V sit with legs split reach through, and knees in touch toes counts as 1)
20 feet elevated on chair knee in and out to side alternating sides
20 competitive sit ups
20 side plank toe touch 10 right and 10 left

I am going to shower and head to the store to get some oregano oil and more kombucha tea. I need to get rid of this coughing. We had a close friend pass away Sunday, he had cancer. We are going to the funeral Thursday. I don't want to be coughing through it.

I think most Nuun is caffeine free. the caffeinated ones are the exception. I never noticed much effect though.
Our tap water is so-so. we have a private water system for our HOA. sometimes it has too much chlorine, but the filter on the frig takes care of that. I have a few Contigo hard plastic bottles that I fill and refrigerate. Costco has them right now, a set of 3 for about $15. I keep a line of them in the frig ready to go. starting the day with a big bottle of water works for me. each bottle is 25 oz. I drink one before I get out of bed. a series of long generous swigs. another bottle with my fiber supplement after breakfast. I'm at approx. 50 ounces before 9 am.
Deb, it's a bit of a mind trick. having a nicely colored (mostly blue shades) bottle with a measurement on the side gives me a sense of accomplishment as the ounces go down. I do much better with a big bottle than I did with little ones. I get 3 down every day, plus other fluids. Glass bottles might be even better, but this way I don't worry about breaking or dropping. fits in the cup holder in the car. it's a good habit I've managed to establish. I was doing it with lightly carbonated water before, but have gotten to like this better.

DH and I did a yoga workout yesterday. then I did MM triceps and HR core. unfortunately I didn't feel good yesterday, achy and coughing. I have some kind of virus and will be taking some time off for sure. I've had an ongoing upper respiratory thing that has nagged me for at weeks, never sick but never good either.

Yesterday I did the Pyramid Total Body combo premix and a Jessica Smith Walk. This morning I did a longer Yin Yoga session.

Diane Sue-I'm so sorry about your friend :( I hope you can get rid of your cough. You are doing great with the Z-Cut workouts.

Valerie-I'm sorry that you don't feel well. I feel like I have been fighting something too. This winter has been so bad for viruses going around.

Lori-I haven't tried the 100 rep glute challenge but I will try it soon. I hadn't even thought of using ankle weights with it! Great job!

Carolyn-I can't imagine being a parent now and having that constant worry. I follow one of the local FB pages and people regularly post screen shots of emails and texts they receive when their children's schools go on lock down. It happens so often now.

I went to Sprouts and picked up some Mediterranean Oregano oil to take. I had to read labels. One had soy lecithin in it. A lot do not say which type of oregano oil is in them. I broke one of the capsules into a bit of water to swallow at first. That way it can coat my throat a bit. The oil always tastes so bad, but works. I usually just swallow the capsules. I ordered a better brand in the capsules and drops from Amazon. I mentioned the brand earlier. I have read that it helps to use a couple of drops earlier in the day and then take a couple of capsules. Anyway, right now the coughing seems to have settled down. I only use this when I am having coughing or coming down with something. It can thin the blood, as does a lot of supplements. So, it is a temporary thing. Better than sucking down antibiotics and antihistamines for me.

Carolyn, I am enjoying the differences in the Z Cut workouts. I find different moves will shoot my heart rate up too. Even briefly it gives a higher heart rate max.

Valerie, I do use the filtered water from the refrigerator to fill my electric tea kettle and mix my greens drinks in the mornings. I also use it for cooking and my dog. I make sure and change that as soon as it tells me it is time. I figure it is probably better for the refrigerator and ice maker as well. Cup holders do become a problem at times. It is funny because one of my cup holders in the console of my car is bigger than the other one. When I add my water bottles, greens drinks, coffee, etc. I have had a huge amount of fluids in a day. I have to try to cut down about 2 hours before bed or I will be up multiple times though.

Judy, I keep wanting to hit more yoga, but seem pressed for time with my workouts a lot lately. Nice work.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was a SB quick lower target that concentrated on the glutes. There was another glute workout that followed but I felt it was rather easy so that is when I did Barlates 100 Rep Glute challenge. Wow I need to be careful what I wish for. It was tough! My quads were tired going into it from the previous workout and I used 1.5lb ankle weights. I finished it, but, a couple times I did stop for a quick break. She works 1 side with all different moves then switches to the other. You are on your hands and knees or laying on your belly. After this I did a quick 5 min bounce just to shake out the legs. Total time was 42 mins / 224 cal. Tonight I did a couple of Bellicon Bounces (no weights) 36 mins / 375 cal. I will not be able to workout tomorrow morning. I have an early morning meeting and need to leave the house at 6:15am. Will try and get a bounce in when I come home.

My KCM workouts came today. They arrived at work in the morning. At lunch I took a peek at them and thinking I will enjoy them. I am converting them now so will check them out in more detail once this is done. Need to figure out when I am going to do these. Wanted to start my rotation I made up soon. Oh the decisions!!!

Diane Sue...HAPPY ANIVERSARY! Congrats on 45 years. Have a nice dinner. I m so sorry about your friends passing. You amaze me with those zcut workouts. Ladies trust me when I say they are tough! Kudos to you. Hoping you are feeling better soon. That cough sounds horrible. I swear since I have been rebounding pretty much every day for a while now, I have not had a cold. My husband has been sick a few times and so has my son. Sometimes my nose is a little runny but that is the extent of it. I am a firm believer that with all the lymphatic cleansing my bouncing is doing my immune system is strong. Either that or I am just darn lucky!!! One or the other. :) All that stuff in the water I would use bottled water too. Yuck.

Judy...nice workouts. I miss doing Jessica workouts, especially the WS3 and need to get them in somewhere. The ankle weights were a great addition and I usually always wear my 1.5lbs when doing any kind of barre. It is automatic for me to put them on. In addition to 1.5lbs, I have 1lb and 2lbs. Glad I did not select the 2lbs doing that 100 rep!!!

Valerie...hoping you feel better soon too.

Caroyln... years ago I drank tons of Diet Coke. Now hardly ever. I try to drink more water and do ok but know I could do more. It is a work in progress for me.

Deb...I liked Move It alot and thought it was fun. I never go to a Walgreens or RiteAid. They are in this area but I prefer CVS.

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I had about 3 hours of sleep the night before. :(. I ended up taking a nap after John left for work and before class at noon.

Judy, that had to be scary for elementary school children.

Diane Sue, Happy Anniversary!! Sorry about your friend. :(. That is interesting about how the Mediterranean olive oil used for a cough. I would suggest it to John, but know he would never try it.

Lori, good job on that challenge...and with ankle weight no less! :)..you mentioned you would not be able to work out today due to a meeting...I would be surprised if you could walk...LOL...:).

Carolyn, was that Fit Tower or Fit Split that you did? Thanks for the reminder about the straw....I also find it easier to drink water if I have a bottle with a straw. I have to start doing that again.

Valerie, I hope you feel better soon. I looked up the Nuun on Amazon, looked for non-caffeinated. It appears that if there is caffeine, it says it in the description. They do have 2g of sugar, and stevia leaf extract, which confuses me, why do they need sugar if they are using stevia? We have some plastic bottles that are supposed to be "safe" but I don't remember what they are made of.

Hi to Judy!

Take care,

Good Morning,
This morning I did JS 30 Minute HiiT Walk from her 30 Day Plan. I burned 224 calories with an average heart rate of 133 and maximum heart rate of 155. The rotation called for RWH Low Impact HiiT but it was too early for that for me. I like to be up and moving a while before that type of workout.

Deb, my workout yesterday was the Fit Tower Advanced Total Body. I am on the final week of the rotation that I was doing.

Lori, you may be right about rebounding strengthening your immune system and helping to keep you cold free. That’s a good side benefit.

Judy, great job with Pyramid Total Body and Yin Yoga. I really like that type of practice.

Diane Sue, Happy Anniversary. I hope you enjoyed your night out.

Valerie, what is the yoga dvd that you are doing with your husband?

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Deb ...more versions of Nuun than I knew about. I’ve never seen most of those in stores. good luck trying to read ingredients on side of the tube.
The older one is the one I've used. I’m not trying to replace electrolytes, only make plastic bottled water taste better. We use refillable plastic bottles with a flip-up cap over the spout. bottle cage is on the bike frame. Bottles get filthy dirty, water sits in the bottle in the sun. The bottles need to fit the bottle cage, and hard bottles are too large to go in cages. water can taste pretty stale. nuun is a little flavor. at 10 cal there is not much of anything in it. it does have stevia and also dextrose but the amount is extremely minor. Gatorade is too sweet and caloric. I never could stand the taste of crystal lite. the benefit is helping warmish water taste good enough to drink when it's the choice. I can't taste stevia by itself. a couple molecules of dextrose probably there to enhance it.
supposedly older plastic had BPA in them, and newer harder plastic does not.
Glass is too hazardous for what we do and I don't like drinking out of metal bottles so that is the choice.

diane sue, congrats on your 45th. Hope you had a good dinner out.

We got our new blinds installed yesterday and are happy with them. we got 4 windows and a big sliding door. the old blinds were 30+ yrs old, raise/lower breaking down. these are honeycomb ones. instead of vertical blinds, we got a blackout that slides sideways in the honeycomb fabric. for the master. spring & summer , the sun roasts the room in early morning. sunshine and heat. the old vertical had fallen apart.
Carolyn I will look at the yoga disk next time. I forgot the name of the person. DH is not very flexible so I looked for the easiest, basic one. I haven't done yoga in years now. it will take a few runs to get familiar again.

I am not feeling too great today. cough if I try to do much, so this will be another rest day. some kind of upper respiratory thing.

Deb-I'm sorry about the sleep :( I hope you sleep better tonight.

Carolyn-The HiiT walk sounds like a good one.

Valerie-I hope you feel better soon.

Diane Sue-Great workouts today!

Lori-I've used light ankle weights for JS workouts and they really increase the intensity. I need to try them with barre too. I hope you like the KCM workouts.

Judy

I thought I came back and read posts. We did not go out for our anniversary last night. Maybe another night. My husband got off of work way late which is unusual, but could not be helped. He came in at 8:30 and had to get up at 5 this morning so we didn't go out. Besides I think he was tired as I had kept him up coughing and he had had a very long day. We had family dinner this evening and spent the afternoon cooking. Now I am planning for Easter Sunday. My daughter brought me over a brisket to cook.

Lori, I have read a lot about rebounding and the lymphatic system. Although I have read that exercise in general helps the lymphatic system too. Maybe not as much? I generally do not get as sick as my husband when something is going around. I used to manage to avoid almost everything till the allergies started in. An early morning meeting would make it hard to get a workout in. I am for getting the sleep I need over getting up extra early.

Deb, I don't think my husband would take the Mediterranean olive oil either. With that little sleep I do not think I would want to workout either. That is good that you were able to take a nap. I try to lay back down when I don't get enough sleep and it rarely works. Occasionally I can get a mid afternoon nap, but if I have coffee first thing, I don't care how little sleep I have had, it just does not work out well. The oregano oil has quercetin in it and is supposed to be anti-inflammatory, it also acts as an antibiotic and anti viral.

Carolyn, I change up rotations quite often when I am just not feeling a particular workout. I guess that is why it is better if I write it up myself. But then again, sometimes it helps me push myself to do something that I really don't want to do, if that makes sense.

Valerie, have you tried the True Lemon, True Lime type drink enhancers? I know they have some other flavors and are all not artificial sweeteners. Some have just flavors without any sweetener of any kind, just crystallized juice and oils. Some have stevia and a bit of cane sugar, and some have just stevia, like the energy drink ones that have a bit of caffeine. I have bought packets for some lemon protein bars that I make my husband sometimes. I am sure you will enjoy the new blinds and the blackout ones.

Judy, barre cardio sounds interesting. Is it something like what Cathe does with the Fit Tower Bootcamp ?

Good evening ladies,

What a long day! I am tired. I managed a quick Lekfit bounce, 29 mins / 275 cal. This was all I could do. After the meeting this morning, I pretty much ran around the office all day so I feel the entire day was a workout. Including my bounce, I am just over 14,000 steps.

Deb...my glutes felt yesterdays workout! Especially up and down the stairs. Sorry you did not sleep well. I have been having difficulties the pst few nights. My right arm keeps falling asleep and it is waking me up. I know I sleep on it and that is the problem.

Carolyn...just tonight I was telling my husband I need to be up a half hour before I workout. Never have I been able to hop out of bed and workout. Deb used something called Skok I think but I have yet to try it.

Judy...loved reading your workouts. Looks like a workout combination I would enjoy. Barre and ankle weights are automatic for me. I use 1.5lbs most of the time and this is perfect for me. Even though they are light, you really notice the difference.

Carolyn...was planning to look at the KCM workouts tonight but I am falling asleep just typing this! Well I just woke up and it is now 5:20am! Well I guess I did fall asleep!

Valerie...the blinds sound beautiful. I bet it completely changes your room. Hope you ar feeling better soon.

Not sure what the workout is this morning sense I fell asleep before I looked!

Have a great day all!!

Good morning,

We are leaving this morning for Syracuse, showing tomorrow and back home later that night. Wish me luck!

Carolyn, I went back and viewed the clip of Fit Tower Total Body and now I want to do that one again!

Valerie, I hope you feel better soon. I believe the bottles we use (hard plastic) were ones that were advertised as being without BHA...I think there are ones that are out now that are supposed to be better. I like the ones we have. Similar to what you have, with a flip top. I'm sure you will enjoy the new blinds.

Diane Sue, that is too bad about missing the dinner out, but fully understandable. 8:30 is really late to get home and then go to dinner. Something to look forward to in the future.

Judy, great job on that challenge!

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Deb-Good luck with your show!

Lori- I am really feeling sore, in a good way, from the Drop Sets. I want to do chest and back tomorrow.

Diane Sue- I think the barre cardio is similar to Cathe's Fit Tower Boot Camp.

Today I did RWH Low Impact HiiT One which was 28 minutes and 183 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate 150. I followed that with Fit Tower Legs, Glutes, and Abs, skipping the warmup. That was 40 minutes, 114 calories burned, average heart rate 101 and maximum heart rate 128.

Deb, good luck with the show. The FT Total Body is a great workout. I like it quite a bit.

Judy, good job with yesterday’s workout. I ordered the Drop Sets dvd a few weeks ago but have not tried it yet. I can see how that would leave you sore.

Valerie, I hope you are feeling better today. I bought a Jane Adams yoga dvd that someone recommended to try with my husband. It has 7 different practices and is for “beginners or those in midlife”. He is not very flexible and wants to work on that and balance.

Diane Sue, I’m sure you were happy to reschedule your dinner out. It’s hard to enjoy yourself when you are too tired. I’m trying to plan Easter dinner too. It will be something that’s not too elaborate.

Lori, that sounds like quite a work day. 14,000 steps! Good job getting in a Lekfit workout. I probably would have skipped it.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was a SB upper target and then I followed up with a SanFran Bounce from youtube ( link below) that was upper focused and to continue working arms. I enjoyed it and my arms felt worked. 45 mins / 330 cal. This was my only workout.

Diane Sue...so sorry that you did not get to go out. Our schedules are always hectic and hrard to make plans at times. I completely agree that exercise in general helps your immune system. I am always changing up rotations I do.

Deb...good luck in Syacuse!!! Fit Tower Total Body is a favorite of mine.

Carolyn...great workout!! I almost skipped my workout but knew I would feel better just getting something in.

Judy...I previewed the Drop Sets and I know I will love them! I also think I am going to love KCM’s Build and Burn. I have been previewing them and they look great.

Hi to Valerie!!!!!

Have. Great night all!
