Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/24

Today I did HiiT 40/20 using my low impact modifications. Time was 30 minutes with 212 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 164.

Deb, I’m glad that you found the article interesting. I thought it sounded similar to what you are going through. In the past I have had hip and glute pain that later became knee pain.

Valerie, nice job with upper body and abs yesterday. I hope you are able to get in the xc skiing today.

Hello to Diane Sue, Lori, and Judy.

Deb, nop question, I'm picky about food texture. No runny eggs. I know people used to use raw eggs freely , but 50 years ago the egg supply wasn't harboring salmonella either. people ate raw eggs in caesar salad dressing, egg nog, ice cream, and very soft cooked eggs. not sure what exact temp eggs have to reach to be safe, but I want them not slimy.
I use egg substitute sometimes. DH has high cholesterol no matter what he eats or doesn't eat. so egg beaters, in a carton. looks like eggs but doesn't have yolks, and is pasteurized so would be safe to use. I hate mayo so I can't say if it would taste the same. sometiumes I think we got married because we both hated mayo, and it felt like a great reason!
when we have scrambled eggs or fried eggs,I use a real egg or two and then egg beaters so he doesn't get too much egg yolk. they are cooked to what I call "done". no runny, slimy parts. I am definite about this. even dark meat chicken /turkey is too slimy for me. no oysters or raw fish.

cousin was lax about training his dogs. they had several fox terriers that were lovely little friendly guys, but then they bought one who was a total nut job. he bit, growled, pooped in the house, and had to be strongly sedated for the simplest things. tried drugs, but finally gave up, had him put down. they tried everything but every breed will have a few crazies. it would not be fair to sell him to someone else.

I worked retail as a teen and in college, evenings and weekends . always. got so tired of it. they would work you like a full time employee , and just before you qualified for full time benefits, your hours would be cut to zip for a week, and then the cycle would begin again. 3 weeks of 40 hours, then the 4th week 12 hours, and 5th week back to 40. full time without any of the benefits. I needed the money so put up with being jerked around.

Today I did Fit Split Cardio Shred stopping at the stretch, 27 minutes, heart rate average 143, max 169, met 9.0. 208 calories, 2,611 steps. I then did the Fit Split Push day, 34 minutes, met 6.0, 159 calories, 412 steps, heart rate average 102, max 138 and I skipped the warm up. I don't really like doing a full cardio and weight workout as it doesn't seem to give the right feedback for both. I did take note of the workout managers Met values and did the math. I lowered my met values a bit. I finished off with Lite extended stretch #2, 11 minutes, 31 calories. Total time was 72 min, 398 calories. While sitting at my table plugging my numbers in the workout manager I started coughing when I was turned at an angle and really did a number on my low back side. I could hardly move. This was just before the final stretch I added. So after the stretch I used my therapy balls and some stretches from Smashworx and ran downstairs and got some Advil. I laid down for awhile after I ate. It is better now, but still hurts a bit. Bending over in the stretch was much slower for me than Cathe when I tried to stand back up!! It is our actual anniversary today and my husband wants to go out this evening again. :)

we ended up doing a ride this morning, could not drive to where we wanted to ski from. so rode out 26 mile road ride. took longer todayn 2 and a half hours, because we both had problems with bikes shifting right but finally it settled out and worked OK. dh cleaned them the other day and chains didn't want to shift right.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did KCM Raw Lower Body Pyramids and the Back and Biceps from Raw Ascending Pyramids.
The lower body one was squats, front lunges, sumo squats, deadlifts and rear lunges. Each exercise was done using 3 sets of weights, going from light to heavy. There were 3 rounds of sets for each exercise.
Today I did Core Max 1 and the X53 premix from X10, Low Impact, Cardio Blast & Fat Burning Circuit.

Deb-That's neat that your parents owned a clothing and shoe store. Nice that you got to work there.

Valerie-I agree about raw eggs. I remember when I was a child, there was an ice cream store in our neighborhood and they would add raw eggs to milk shakes. That was in the days before protein shakes and recovery drinks so it was probably for young guys trying to gain weight.
Retail is rough. The health food store I worked at was the worst. I had Monday & Tuesday off so my week was Wed-Sun. They had me working Wed-Fri 1 pm-9pm, then Saturday 9-3 and Sunday 11-5. That was the worst schedule I have ever had, not to mention they called me in all the time if someone was sick or they needed extra help, so I regularly worked 6 days a week. I did that from Jan-Oct 2008, then I was able to transfer to another store and get on a Mon-Fri schedule.

Carolyn-Great job with Maximum Intensity Strength and HiiT 40/20. I was just thinking about MIS today. I have it on my list of workouts that I want to try.

Diane Sue-Great workouts this week! I don't mind working weekends as much now because I know this is temporary. HD keeps seasonal employees 120 days so I will be done in June. Even if I stayed on, from what I understand, they cut hours way back once the busy season is over.

Hi to Lori!

Have a good night!

Judy

Good evening ladies,

I think I mentioned Sunday was a rest day. Monday ended up being a no workout day too. GiGi kept us up most of the night. She was just panting and wanting to go out side. I think we got about 2 hours sleep total. And this may be pushing it. Lost count how many times we got up. Poor thing. She was better by the morning, but we were not. The day was a long one and I came home and pretty much went to bed and slept straight through. Felt great Tuesday! Did SBF Adv Barre Fire which is a total body 36 min workout. I then bounced with Chelsie. Today Chelise wanted to try a LEKFit Bounce interval. She came over a little earlier to do the entire workout. For me to be on time for work I have a hard stop at 6:30am. She loved it but not sure if she can do everyday. We will work up to it.

Diane Sue...We loved the mayo. It is not cheaper to make but I like knowing it is organic, no sugar and I know exactly what is in it. I am told the lemon juice kills/cooks any bacteria from the raw egg. I read in several places to let sit for an hour before refrigerating to be sure. I actually made organic confectionary sugar the other day. I swear I do not know the person I have become!! Lol!! My KCM pause started this week. Thought it was next week. Oh well I will start up again in July.

Deb...KCM is only $6.99 a month but I do not feel it is my go to streaming. I am evaulating my sites and pausing the ones I do not use frequently. I have way to many I pay for and do not use to the fullest. So after 3 months if I really do not miss it then I will not resubscribe. I used egg yolks, dry mustard, salt, lemon juice, and canola oil. Everything was organic. It was delicious. Going to experiment with different oils. I am not a huge fan of canola. It was quick and easy. That is awesome this was the first crazy dog fight you experienced!

Valerie...thanks on the septic reminder. Been a while since we have had ours pumped. Going to schedule this for this spring. I may be pressing my luck with raw eggs but I am really ok with the mayo. Same thing when I made the hollindaise sauce...starts with raw eggs. Really hoping it is true the acid in the lemon juice helps cook everything.

Judy...that is awesome to have Chris workout with you. I liked working out with my husband. He is off and on with his workouts. He has kept most of his weight off so I do not mind. Yes, I know what you mean about retail hours. It is great when you can find one that you can live with.

Carolyn....MIC ...is a tough workout and very long if I remember! MIS is equally as tough. Congrats!! Avocado mayo sounds delicious. We use a lot of mayo so glad to make my own. I have been feeling really bad that I have not been regular about posting as I once was. One of these days, my life will calm down a bit. I love our group and miss you all when I am not posting!!!!

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

PT yesterday. The PT person suggested I look into better shoes with more support. He mentioned that with the amount of standing he does all day, he was having a lot of knee pain etc. He invested in a better pair of sneakers and has not had the pain since. He does not claim that this will solve my issue, but may help some.

Carolyn, good that you have your own modifications for the HIIT 40/20. When those workouts came out, I did not get them due to the high impact moves that they showed in the video clips. Yes, that article hit very close to home with me.

Valerie, you sound just like John when it comes to eggs. LOL....yes, Fox Terriers need a lot of training and socialization. That was the issue with the first one we adopted at 11 months. He had no socialization, kept being turned into the SPCA when whoever got him could not put up with his antics. He was never house trained, and could get snippy if you startled him by coming up behind him etc. The people we got him from had 5 kids, all under 10 years old, in a cramped little apartment. We believe they only got him because he was a "pure breed dog" and they figured they could sell him for a profit. There was not way this woman could have wanted or needed a crazy dog with all those kids to take care of.

Diane Sue, I hope your back/side is better today. Was it a muscle pull?

Judy, great workouts! I like the way KCM's pyramid weight work sounds. I remember my mother making milkshakes at home and putting a raw egg in, for the nutrition, because we were probably in a phase where we wouldn;t eat eggs...LOL...No one ever worried about raw eggs back then. That does sound like a horrible work schedule.

Lori, that's sounds horrible about Gigi and your not able to sleep. What was wrong? Was she being sick outside? Nice that Chelsie wants to try those bounce workouts. As for oils, I like avocado a lot. Also walnut oil. Very mild and does not seem "greasy"..if that makes sense.

Take care,

I don't know if all septic systems are the same.... probably similar but not identical . we were told this time we should clean the filter yearly, something we'd never heard before. frequency depends on # of people, waste water volume, size of the tank. we should do it every 5 years. most houses we owned have been on septic. also depends on the drain lines. we have a good downhill slope. below the tank.

Deb I think my cousin got the dog as a young adult. he and his wife had several terriers before. they were dedicated dog lovers so it must have gotten pretty awful for them to do what they had to do. my sister has a slightly crazy dog that's nipped many people. the bigger the dog, the scarier it gets. she has a german shepherd. she has nothing but time but didn't train the dog. I can't imagine having a dog that ignores everything and does what it wants. at least it is housebroken. I don't mean high level training.... just sit, stay, come, not to jump on people. if the dog gets out of her yard, it runs. she is lucky she has gotten it back because it ignores her.
Lori that is a rough night. I am dead meat on 2 hours of sleep. hope Gigi is Ok and it was nothing of concern.

Today I did Low Impact Circuit which was 71 minutes and 452 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 157. I love the music and the step combos in this workout. They aren’t complicated and they are fun.

Deb, getting supportive shoes for every day wear makes sense. I had to do the same thing last year. I discovered that I needed better shoes as I added more steps to my day.

Judy, nice job with Raw Lower Body Pyramids, Raw Ascending Pyramids, Core Max, and X 10. I worked in retail for a short period when I was in college. I was terrible at it! I assumed that your temporary job would be through the summer. Working weekends until the end of June is not so bad.

Lori, I wouldn’t be able to do anything with just a few hours of sleep. Good for you for getting some rest the next night. Chelsie must be making good progress with the workouts if she wanted to try Lekfit.

Diane Sue, I hope the pain in your back and side is better today.

Valerie, we have our tank pumped and filter cleaned every three years.

we did the tree farm this morning 2 hours, and about 7 miles. things I thought were hills don't seem like much anymore.

about shoes..... so many people buy after market shoe inserts, most shoes don't come with much of an arch support any more. I like Super feet. they are quite substantial and last for years. when I buy new shoes or boots I switch old superfeet to new footware. I have at least 6 pairs. they used to be about $20. ask your PT guy if this would help. that's where I got my recommendation, from the PT person I used a couple years ago. ETA also from a podiatrist about 30 yrs ago. I've used them ever since. I use the blue ones.

superfeet come in a lot of sizes and styles. I don't know what would be helpful for you, but you could google superfeet and see if there is enough information on line. they are not cheap, $40 or so a pair. its an instant major upgrade to most pairs of shoes. you need to buy the appropriate type of superfeet support for whatever your foot issues are. even expensive boots come with almost no arch support these days, just a flimsy little liner. easier and less expensive to move superfeet around than buy all new shoes.

This morning I did Lite Rev'd Up Rumble, 42 minutes, heart rate average 142, max 173, 3,571 steps, met 7.5, 299 calories. I then did Kelly Coffey Lean body Circuits Hi/Lo premix, 20 minutes, heart rate average 139, max 165, 1,949 steps, met 7.0. I finished off with Lite abs #2, 11 minutes, met 4.5, 40 calories, 39 steps and Lite Stretch #1, 13 minutes, 33 calories, 51 steps. Total time was 86 minutes, 496 calories, 5,610 steps.

I keep having things come up and finding it hard to get back here. My husband took me to dinner again last night since it was our actual anniversary. We did not get home till 9 which is our bed time we try for. We went to a rather pricey restaurant that had delicious food. Not a huge menu. You choose the main and then sides you choose are set out in dishes in the middle of the table to share. I ordered mushrooms, so I had to eat them myself. I couldn't eat as many as there were prepared, and I chose salmon again as it sounded interesting since it was prepared with lump crab meat, tomatoes, capers, and wine sauce. My husband got a filet mignon and that was thick!!. We shared a piece of cheesecake with marinated berries. I ate a little of the cheesecake and the berries. The service was great and they gave us a card signed by the staff and a small box of chocolates that were shaped like jewels for it being our anniversary.
I picked up the grandchildren from school today and tried to hurry post workout to get the house vacuumed. Way too much dog hair floating around even though I brush her every morning. It is that time of year.
I ordered Strong Lower Body Stacked Sets today. I had enough rebate dollars and it was only 17.99 on Amazon Prime. They had 5 left. Two more left and I will have the whole series :)

Judy, great workouts. I guess it would not be so bad working the weekends since you know it is temporary. My grandson works at a coffee shop near his university and he gets a lot of extra hours because of those who do not want to work. My granddaughter's husband chose Chick-fil-a when he was in high school, and college so that he could be off Sundays. That is one of the advantages of Chick-fil-a and Hobby Lobby for employees. He is in IT now at a big company since he graduated college.

Lori, I love the taste of my homemade mayo and it does work well for dressings and the like. Yes avocado mayo is good and is additions to make it chipotle mayo or I did a recipe once that used some roasted red pepper sauce mixed into the mayo and it was a nice addition on some meats and other dishes. You are doing well with the cooking and all of the new things. I don't know why so many foods that you purchase pre-made have to have sugar and extra salt added. I have learned a lot through some of my Paleo cookbooks like the first Whole 30 on utilizing recipes for more than one dish and having things pre-made. Some sauces can be frozen or dishes put together and frozen as a frozen dinner. It makes things work nice when I do not have a lot of time. That is great that Chelsea stuck with a long bounce like that. That is the reason that I prefer to have no more than two streaming services. I would not use them to their fullest for sure. I would be throwing away money. I am sorry that you had so little sleep with Gigi. I remember some of those nights. They are not fun. Fortunately Gertie has not had any for quite some time.

Deb, I have learned to be choosy about the shoes I purchase and like Valerie, I have learned to buy inserts. Good quality ones hold up well and can be used for years. I have put mine in the laundry in a laundry bag a few times. I have purchased Super Feet, Foot minders (a little less costly) and New Balance which I get for my husband that help with numb feet, neuromas and that sort of thing. Those seem to be holding up well. Things like Dr Scholls just wear through. I have seen him wear holes through the bottom and I could not imagine working out with something like that. The ones in workout shoes are usually so thin. I think I just pulled a muscle. I am still having to stretch and use my therapy balls. For one thing, my husband has a cold and I wanted him to get some sleep and avoid my coughing when he has to go to work and I slept on the twin sleeper upstairs. I put memory foam on it, but I distinctly kept waking up feeling like something was poking me and I think it was a spring. Then I did my workout and when writing my workout down, I leaned to the side to pull up something on the tablet and started coughing and it felt like something cramped up and hurt terribly. I could hardly get back into and upright position. Advil and stretching and rolling helped a lot and I have been looking at some stuff on Smashworx on YouTube that has been helpful. I am in need of new shoes for my workouts. I can tell by the way my forefoot kind of hurts and it feels like not enough padding. Those are in my Crossfit Nano 5.0 shoes. 4 years is a long time for me to be wearing the same pair of shoes.

Valerie, the aerobic system is somewhat different than a regular septic system. Sprinklers went off at the back of our property and ran down a kind of a ditch at the back which often looked like a stream when we had hard rains or the one tank got too full of water. I believe there were two tanks. One was for the nasty stuff and one was more like the cleaner water like bathing and kitchen sink that had product put in to kill bacteria and filtration. We had it serviced. Also the tank I think was smaller so having the other emptied was on average between 3 and 4 years depending on how many were in the house. Since most of the time in that particular house was me and my grandchildren when I babysat. Otherwise my husband was out of country a lot of it.

Carolyn, Low Impact Circuit is a fun workout. I wish we had some of that music now. The pain is much better today. I still chose off the step lighter workouts this morning to see how I did and the abs was not too strenuous for the are that I chose. I will have to see how I am tomorrow since I wanted to do weights.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I worked 6 hours and most of it was cleaning up the garden area outside so I didn't do an extra workout. My step count is still crazy. I got over 23,000 yesterday. My steps are higher than they have ever been the past 3 weeks. That's one of the benefits of working at HD. It was very nice yesterday, sunny with highs in the 60's. Unfortunately that didn't last. It's going down into the 20's tomorrow and there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow night.

Deb-I really like KCM's Raw Pyramids. I think I will add them into my rotation for a few weeks, maybe alternate them with LITE Pyramid Pump and Cathe's older Pyramid workout.
Hoka's are the best shoes I have ever worn. I don't think I would be doing as well on my feet for hours at HD if I wasn't wearing them. I bought 2 pair to alternate and having only been using them for work. I also have a couple pair of the Bondi 5s that I use for walking/running.

https://www.hokaoneone.com/womens-r...019270_color=BBLC#start=5&cgid=womens-walking

Lori-I'm sorry about GiGi keeping you up. I wouldn't be able to function on 2 hours of sleep. Nice job on the workouts you did this week! That's really great that Chelsie did a LEKFit Bounce with you.

Valerie-I agree about the Super Feet inserts. I have them in my hiking boots and they make a difference. Great rides this week!

Carolyn-Great job with Low Impact Circuit. That's another one I haven't tried. It sounds like fun.

Diane Sue-It is good to be able to have Sundays off. Working weekends and holidays is one of the negatives of retail. That sounds like a wonderful dinner that you and your husband had. Hopefully you didn't pull a muscle. I hope you feel better today.

Judy

Good morning,

Babysitting early this morning, I just got back.

Valerie, I have to admit, I have never had a septic system. I have no idea how they work. I would guess that there would be some type of schedule for having it cleaned. We should have our sewer connection cleaned out every year, but somehow it gets by us and it clogs, causing backup like we had recently. Thanks for the info on the inserts. I will look into them. The sales person at the shoe store talked about inserts. I want to see how the shoe they recommend feels first, if I buy it. They had to order a pair as they did not have one in my size.

Carolyn, good job on LIS. Was that part of the Low Impact series?

Diane Sue, that dinner and the restaurant sound lovely! How nice to give you that special gift for your anniversary. Yes, I have tried those drugstore shoe inserts in the past and they are a waste of money.

Judy, that is great that you got a nice day and were working outside. Your step counts have been amazing! The people at the shoe store are all serious runners, and they swear by Hoka shoes. She recommended the Arahi Stability ones.

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble for 41 minutes and 285 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 152.

Diane Sue, that’s wonderful that you got to have two celebrations for your anniversary. I have learned a lot about meal prep and planning good tasting meals in a time efficient way from the various cookbooks too. I wish I had known some of those tips when my children were all home and I was so busy with work and graduate school.

Deb, Low Impact Circuit is a stand alone dvd from 2006. It’s one of those where Cathe is wearing a sash in the cover picture :).

Judy, you are really getting in the steps at Home Depot! Thanks for the link to the Hoka shoes. It’s good that you have them.

Hello to Lori and Valerie. Have a wonderful day everyone.

I shuffle my Superfeet from boot to boot. from summer boots, to winter, to xc ski boots. I have accumulated at least 6 pairs. if they work for you, watch for them on sale. they will last years and years. I usually buy decent shoes. Judy I never tried Hokas. Never saw the brand before. I have mostly Brooks and some old Saucony. decent shoes are worth the money but even good shoes won't help if the fit is wrong for your foot. I need an arch support, but a flexible sole and a wider toe box. some people do better with a more rigid sole. Your PT person might be able to suggest what to look for.
I agree diane sue.. two anniversary parties and dinners is a good precedent to set. I have done those sudden muscle pulls and tweaked something. not serious but inconvenient.

we tried to ski a different place this morning, and got up a road that's been closed for ages. unfortunately a big washout so could not get to snow. we skied up it early in the season but with the snow we didn't know the road was missing a big chunk. will think of something else to do.

I am extremely tired today so did not do any cardio. I did PHA 2, 46 minutes, met 7.0(I lowered this from workout managers 8.0) 279 calories, heart rate average 104, max 140, 904 steps. I finished with Coffey Fit Raw Stretch, 28 minutes, 67 calories, met 2.5, 119 steps. It has been a full week of not getting enough sleep. I just didn't feel it this morning and really wanted to do a decent stretch. This was the first time I did PHA 2 as is without doing one of the longer premixes.
Weights
rnds 1A and 1B
Both rounds I lifted the same weight
side to side sumo squats 20# (I used a kettlebell which is more comfortable to me) 12 reps

lying extensions 15# dbs 12 reps
repeat all for 2B

I had my workout almost typed out upstairs this morning and it vanished. To my surprise when I got on here a bit ago it was back. I am on my downstairs computer.

Judy, you hardly need a workout with all of those steps per day ;) I can imagine the clean up is a daily process in the garden center. Do you water plants and that sort of thing too? Thanks for the link on the shoes. Those look like they would have plenty of toe room. I bookmarked them.

Deb, it is nice to be able to try on the shoes first. My first pair of the crossfit shoes I purchased I tried on and purchased at Dicks. Then I ordered some later for a second pair from Amazon. For some reason I ordered the second pair a half size smaller, because I thought I wore an 8. I can only wear the so long before my toes are numb. I love summer months when I can wear my Chocos sandals during the day, or go barefoot. I never wear the smaller pair for working out. I must have been hungry for seafood because both dinners I chose salmon. I also went to Sprouts meat counter and bought salmon and cod. I had them cut the salmon for me in serving size pieces this time. Although he cut them a bit bigger than I do. I usually cut it 4 to 5 oz each piece.

Carolyn, I have thought that too on the prep work and meal planning for when my children were growing up. I had never thought about preparing enough when I made a meal to put away for another meal, or being able to turn it into another dish. I am always reading and finding easier ways to prepare or even cut up things. Now if I could find a simple way to peel and cut up butternut squash before cooking it, it would be nice. Maybe there is a handy device for that?

Valerie, which SuperFeet inserts do you buy? I think the ones I purchased before were green and supposed to help PF. I always felt like they were so stiff and made my feet feel like they were being forced into another position. I wore them for a long time. I probably still have them. I have wondered if I just purchased the wrong ones at the time, and I was already having foot issues. Everyone I talk to seems to love them. I tried Brooks shoes before, but they felt too snug. Saucony were not bad, but often did not hug in close enough on the heel and I would end up buying those stick on things to put around the heel and lacing them up tight. I have some Adidas that I always feel are comfortable, but there is not much support in them. They are best left for low impact work. Not much cushioning in them. Nike shoes are miserable!! So are Sketchers. I felt bad when I finally threw away a pair of like new Nike shoes after dragging them around for 4 years. Even my granddaughter tried to wear them and said they hurt her feet. I guess we all have different feet and fitting shoes is an individual thing.
I have tweaked muscles before like that. It feels much better today. I felt like I really needed the longer stretch after the weights today.

diane sue shoes brand names don't mean much anymore. you can buy shoes of boots today and next year they will be made in another country to different specs and won't resemble the previous years style at all. I assume a decently made pair of athletic shoes or boots will be $100-150. real hiking boots are usually more, but we are we need waterproof/ breathable. necessary here. adds $30. I used to love Nike shoes. but one year they were great, the next year I tried the same shoe on and they were small, tight and uncomfortable. so because a brand was great one year doesn't mean a thing the next year.
judy mentioned stability shoes. they control your foot motion. I need a cushion shoe that is more flexible. so different styles for different feet.
I prefer to try on shoes and boots but not always possible these days. supposedly the cushioning in shoes only lasts a couple hundred miles of running or equivalent use. I don't buy cheap shoes. history of very bad feet in my family, and mine are mostly good yet but I buy shoes carefully.
I have the baby blue superfeet. I have a pair of lime green with a little higher arch support. either one works for me but mostly blue ones because I keep re using them. I saw a podiatrist decades ago, he said the blue ones and I have worn them ever since. my PT guy thought I'd do better with more arch support so I got the green ones but I can't tell much difference. the liners on new shoes are a throw away joke.
Deb, if you try superfeet, remove the factory lining in the shoe, sub with superfeet. you may need to trim them slightly to fit. they always fit my shoes and boots but I have mostly " hiker casual" foot wear. I haven't looked at the website in years but they had it set up to help you get the right one, but I would still check with the PT guy.

I usually peel butternuts with a vegie peeler. if you microwave it a little first, its easier to peel. softens it a l;ittle.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday. I think I will try to start something tomorrow...maybe short versions of the Lite workouts, not sure.

Carolyn, thanks for the info on Low Impact Circuit. I am sure if it is a step workout, I didn't purchase it. I really should make an inventory of all my Cathe workouts so I know what I have!

Valerie, that's too bad that the road you planned to ski on was not in good shape. The store I went to has some "impressive" electronic foot measuring things that they actually send to you via email once you leave the store. This supposedly lets them figure out the best shoe for your feet. That is how they came up with the Hoka brand for me. They had me also try on a Saucony and one other, but the Hoka felt the best. They said I should be getting a wide width, and of course, that was the size that they did not have in stock, so they are special ordering. I am not committed to buy though, if I don't like how they feel.

Diane Sue, good job doing PHA2 when you have felt so tired. I never considered getting a wide width in a sneaker, which now sounds pretty dumb. I need extra toe room too. I wish we had a Sprouts here. For butternut squash, I slice in half lengthwise ( this can be difficult if they are large) then microwave covered in a glass dish. The seeds and outer shell are so much easier to remove that way. I always have had it just as squash, but like Valerie said, if you just use it to soften, then you can probably then cut up for roasting.

Hi to Judy & Lori,

Agility class today,

Take care,

It is cold here today. It will be a couple of days before we are back up to 60s and 70's. Below freezing tonight. We had storms and hail at 2 am this morning. At least the hail was not as big this time. For us anyway.

Valerie, I may check out the blue Super Feet next time. I do not have much padding on the bottom of my feet and a bone spur. I can feel the seams and bumps in the bottom of the shoes with the inserts that come in them. You are right , the same shoe is not always the same the next time. That is what I did with the squash last time, but my veggie peeler kept slipping Over the surface. I think maybe I need a new veggie peeler. I wonder when I see spiralized butternut squash in Sprouts. It seems I would have to buy a very small one. Wonder if my Kitchenaid would peel one. I have done it with sweet potato.

Deb, I really felt PHA 2 felt like I should have burned a lot of calories. I guess that is because I was pushing myself. The last two times I did much longer premixes with it. By the time I was done I just wanted a stretch . I ended up taking a nap. I am feeling the workout this morning.

deb I mail order things for my sister. she can't drive, has no internet. a bad combo, believe me! she was told to get wide shoes by her podiatrist. I ordered wides and they were so wide she was swimming in them. so the arduous return/exchange process. some brands are made wider. much better if you can try on, or order a regular and a wide, compare, return what doesn't fit. I have some Brooks shoes in wide, but most of my other shoes are regular width. there doesn't seem to be any standard things are made to meet. not all brands of athletic shoes come in wide, so that was how I ended up with Brooks. most people want athletic shoes to fit close. too much room, I get major blisters no fun either. next shoes I need I'll look at Hoka.

there are many superfeet styles color coded to your feet. these are the blue ones. many prs of these. I have one pair of green. my feet are pretty normal, not perfect. they fit in every shoe I ever tried. probably not sandals. DH uses them too. on Prime.
good shoes used to come with a decent removable liner. not anymore.
