Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/18

I am not feeling well this morning. I don't know if it is just allergies or something else since my stomach is upset too. I did Fit Split Low Impact only mix, 27 minutes, 175 calories, avg heart rate 132, max 167. That is it for me today. I have to take my husband to pick up the motorcycle he left to be serviced. Not much else here.

Deb, it seems you get more for your money when you make your own protein bars. It is just the convenience of buying them already packaged. The Clif protein bars I picked up were more like rice krispies or something with chocolate coating. I wasn't impressed. I picked up some recently because I got rebates from them. It really depended on the flavors of the luna bars. They are not a favorite of mine. I have tried my hand at making my own. There are recipes for them. I have made some Double Chocolate Energy bites from the Paleo OMG cookbook that are really good. They have figs in them with almond butter, coconut, chocolate protein powder, chocolate chips, and other ingredients. My family all really liked those. They are chewy though. There are some Perfect raw bars that I pick up once in awhile at Sprouts. They are refrigerated and have ground nuts and other ingredients. The texture is a bit different. Not so much like dried fruit, a bit like ground nut flour.

Valerie, I don't think they bake Luna bars. The recipes are just done in a food processor where you grind up the dates and whatever other ingredients are in them. I like dates and figs so mixed with nuts it tastes good to me. They do that instead of adding sweeteners and sugar to the bars. I love nuts. Nuts is probably the one problem I have with keeping my weight down. I would worry about the turn over of all of those nutrition bars in that store. I have picked up some even at Sprouts that tasted like old stale nuts. Not a good taste. I even watch the bulk bins at Sprouts because I have caught them dumping fresh stuff on top. They are not supposed to do that. If you go in and it is getting low in the bin, you chance old nuts. I prefer to buy their bagged raw walnuts over the bins. I am sure a little sugar here and there is okay. I pick up Kind bars at Walmart when I am shopping and haven't eaten. They are better than most of the brands of bars that Walmart carries.
I program my thermostat really low at night and have increase when it is after the time I get up. That way I do not crawl into bed and forget.

I decided to take a rest day today. I had an early hair appointment and I wanted a lazy morning. I took my time with coffee and the morning paper.

Deb, I think you are right about the Kroger card and the RX coupons that came in the mail. That’s the only store that has my address.

Valerie, I use the WW barcode scanner on my phone to check smart points on foods in the grocery store. Most protein bars or snack bars are relatively high in points. The Bulletproof Shortbread is 7 points the same as RX and some others. I don’t like most of them enough to use the points but I will occasionally have them as a treat. If I am choosing between a store bought cookie and a bar I will choose the bar. I also get 23 WW daily smart points but I don’t have a problem since there are so many 0 point value foods. With the 28 weekly points and the ability to rollover unused daily points it all balances out for me. I can have a chicken breast or piece of fish and 2 vegetables to make a zero points dinner. If I use olive oil or butter on anything that only adds 1-2 points.

Hi to Diane Sue, Judy and Lori.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I took a rest day and today I did Walk Strong 3 Metabolic Conditioning and Streamline Sculpt.

Deb-Linda does the Barlates workouts, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGmJMvoQfsmXgnnsmfF95PA

Diane Sue-I'm sorry you don't feel well. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

Carolyn-I don't like targeted marketing either. I agree with Deb, I think that Kroger triggers coupons to be sent. I have seen that happen too.

Valerie- I liked the vanilla almond Luna bars. The lemon ones were pretty good too. I usually don't like lemon but for some reason I liked it in the Luna bars.

Hi to Lori!

Judy, DH likes Luna caramel nut brownie. I get a few lemon and blueberry, coconut, for variety. It ticked me off when the vanilla almond disappeared. that was my favorite.
It seems like companies start out with a dozen flavor and pare them down according to popularity.
We have a grocery chain here QFC that is part of Kroger. I have never gotten anything in the mail from them, and I have had a loyalty card for a long time.
I get annoyed with targeted marketing in general.

I got a almond coconut Perfect bar in Sprouts refrigerated area today. I have not had that one. I think I like the chocolate almond better and it has more protein in it. The first ingredient on the coconut almond one was dates. It tasted mostly like dates and coconuts.

Deb, I had not thought about the cards having my address. They only stores I have those for are Pets Mart and Homeland. I rarely go to either one. I guess I have a card for CVS that I got through my Silver Script information. I have not been there though. They put a new one nearby. I usually go to Walgreens though.

Carolyn, I have been relaxing most of the day. After we came back from getting the motorcycle form service, I stopped at Sprouts and then came home and laid down. I just really needed a few things that I was out of. So, I have been reading and lying around.

Judy, I have looked at some of the Linda's YouTubes and liked her use of the Bosu and the stability ball.

Valerie, for you those thermostats would be good since you are back and forth between the two homes.
