Good morning,

No workout yesterday, except for agility class.

Valerie, I know it's not that great for you, and I only have it a couple times in the summer, but I like the corn you can get today. As for maple syrup, supposedly it is slower to convert to sugar in the blood stream, lower glycemic index etc. I use a teaspoon in oatmeal, and sub it in recipes that call for honey or sugar. I use a lot less than they call for...maybe a tablespoon or 2 at the most. I never use any of those artificial ones either, can't stand the taste and I can taste them in the finished product. I don't like Stevia, or Truvia, and those are supposed to be "natural" ...

Carolyn, why is it that when you shop for a mattress you always spend more than you expected? I think they have these "loss leader" ads, or something and you find out that they are the lowest quality that they have and end up upgrading to a higher cost. I would love one of those Sleep Number mattresses that lets you raise the head etc.

Diane Sue, Keegan is like that with his nails...my groomer friend has to have her husband hold him while she trims his nails. Agree on the pure maple syrup...you can use a lot less and get the sweetness you need.

Caitlin, safe travels! I think weight is not a good measure when you do heavy lifting...better to go by how your clothes fit. Muscle actually weighs the same as fat, but is more compact. 2 people can weigh the same, but the one with more muscle will be more compact, be a smaller size and look smaller etc.

Lori, so great that you have Gigi back! I bet she was crazy to see you. Great that you figured out how to switch the watch so that it does not interfere with the glove in a workout!

Not sure what is up for today, maybe a workout?

Take care,

Deb, most stevia products on shelveshas xylotol un it. I cannot tolerate even a small amount of xylotol or I get stomach cramps. My husband can eat it though. I buy some stevia drops that are not clear and use in my unsweetened greens drink in the mornings. Most stevia is processed and whitened. It is a leaf, so natural does not even look like what is in those containers. Pure stevia is also not very tasty so I imagine e that is why they blend it with something else.

Hi Everyone,

Friday I did Jessica Smith's Upper Body Strength and Lower Body Sculpt. I only used 2 & 4 lbs, and just body weight for the lower body moves. It was surprisingly challenging. Jessica's workouts sneak up on you. Yesterday was a rest day. I will probably do cardio today, either a Spinerval or something from RWH or S & S.

Deb-I stayed upstairs until my watch was delivered. It came around 2 pm. I learned my lesson one other time. I was in the basement working out and didn't hear the UPS driver at the door so they left a note and I had to pick the package up.

Diane Sue-I like Wallaby and Grass Milk products too. Green Valley Organics is another good one. I like their kefir and plain yogurt.
I'll have to try the Amped Up Cardio workout again. For some reason, I didn't like it the first time I tried it.

Carolyn-I agree about S & S having a lot of upper body work. I also felt like a got a little stronger just after doing the rotation for a week. In comparing S & S with RWH, I think RWH has more of a "dread factor". S & S is more fun, kind of like XTrain. I looked at the February rotation, and it has some of my favorite workouts in it too. I think I will stay with what I am doing for now, but maybe do a week or two of the rotation later this month.

Valerie- I agree about there not being much difference between types of sugar. I try to limit sugar too. If I am doing a longer workout or bike ride then I can burn it off, but even then I try to be careful.

Caitlin-I hope you have a good trip on Tuesday. How is the weather there? I usually try to take Saturday or Sunday off as a rest day.

Lori-Chris didn't think the JumpSport was a good idea after all..at least not until we have a little more room. He does have a point. After looking at the size of it and seeing how much space it would take in the basement, I decided not to order it. Maybe if we move to a larger home. I looked at some of the smaller rebounders on Amazon but they didn't have very good reviews. That is a good idea to use the fit tower as a bar for it and I will keep that in mind.
The good thing is I'll some extra money for Amazon after trading the iPhone :)

Stevia! that is what I was trying to think of. I can't taste it at all. nothing. I bought some thinking it would be a nice sub for more caloric sweetener but then I could not taste anything.

Deb that is such minimal syrup. my problem is I like things intensely flavored. a teaspoon of maple syrup would not do it for me. just like a few flakes of red pepper aren't enough.... I want a teaspoon full ! I'd want 1/4 cup of syrup. so I am best not having any. I would put way too much honey on sour yogurt. my approach is yogurt occasionally, one with some sweetening added so I'm not likely to add my own touches. left to my own, I'd want to put a couple tablespoons of honey on it!. I use lime or vanilla yogurt as a dressing for fruit salad usually Yoplait light. I liked Chobani greek but DH didn't.
Same way with the corn.... obviously it's popular because that's all farmers grow for the fresh corn market and they grow things that sell . we have corn grown in our yard. delicious and more "corny tasting" . not as sweet. I know not everyone can grow their own. the only way I can use the newer varieties is to sauté with onion and peppers to cut the sweetness.

when we hiked the other day I had to stop after an hour and eat a Kind bar. I sometimes go totally "out- of- gas" spent when my blood sugar gets too low. I need carbs then. the Kind bar is 7 WW points which seems so high for a mildly sweet bar of mostly nuts. I still got under 30 for the day.

I did total body metabolic again yesterday. I've never done this before, focused on one workout and kept repeating it.

we are in the market for mattresses for our new house. I've had such trouble with mattresses lately I hate memory foam. it's fine in cushy bath mats but I can't sleep on it. the last mattress we bought, an expensive pillow top is awful. so hot! I'm a very warm sleeper. mattress is OK for a couple hours. we took off the mattress protector... they hold and reflect body heat but I still can't sleep a full night on it. we should have returned it. so I am now going to buy a cheap mattress without foam, pillow top, or latex. a lot of the new ads are emphasizing the words"'cooling and cool". I don't think I'm the only one with a problem with the mattress holding too much heat.

Judy there is nothing like a couple of fans to enhance your workout. my kitty used to get on the treadmill and get dumped off the end of it.

Our new mattress was delivered last night and we had a wonderful nights sleep. Of course, my husband is thrilled. He was constantly complaining about the other mattress which was not that old. Valerie, I had the same experience with memory foam in the past. It made me too hot and I can't sleep if I am hot. The mattress that we settled on is the exact opposite of what we went in to get. It has memory foam with the newer cooling technology. We spent a lot of time lying on the mattress and testing for comfort in the store. It is supposed to adjust to individual body temperature. If the first night is any indication it works, but we will see. It can be returned if we don't like it within 3 months.

Deb, I have read the same information on maple syrup which is why I use it (aside from liking the taste). I use that or local raw honey.

Valerie, processed foods like Kind bars are all higher in points. I have found that I must keep my fruit servings under 3 a day or I don't lose weight.

Judy, I have more of a dread factor with RWH too. I don't want to do the workouts very often.

Hello to Lori, Diane Sue, and Caitlin.

Good afternoon all!

This morning I did Cathe Live Body Works and used my Jumpsport for all the cardio to see how it would be. I know a lot of people do this so figured I'd try it. It was really great. The unstable surface really makes a difference. Was low impact but still very intense. Of course I needed to modify some of the moves but kept them as close to the actual move as possible. I really liked it a lot. And my heart rate was up there. I then did SB's cardio bounce from her dvd. Total time was 70 minutes and 525 calories.

Deb....growing up my mom would make us cream of wheat and we loved maple syrup in it. I have not thought of that in ages. Just made me smile. :). It is so nice to have GiGi back. She is doing really well with most of her commands. The leash walking is still a challenge though.

Judy...I completely understand about it taking up space. If I did not have my basement I would not have 1/2 the stuff I have accumulated. Even when Nicholas moves back and takes 1/2 the basement I will still be able to make everything work. It will be a tight fit for everything but it should work. After that I will need to be done buying equipment unless we get rid of something! I have traded several items on Amazon and always been happy with what I receive. I love having Nilla with me when I am working out. Beautiful kitty.

Diane Sue...I usualy wear my watch on my left wrist with the crown on the right. To box I switched so the crown was on the left (but still on my left wrist). By doing this the watch face was upside down. Using my watch app on my phone I then switched the orientation so the screen now was so I could read it. Does this make sense? After I was done I switched everything back. This way the glove was not bumping against the crown and messing things up. It did increase the size of the fonts due to it touching the face. I think I am going to create a cover of some sort to stop this from happening. I am very clever with stuff like this. Just need to think it about it for a bit.

Valerie...I have been doing really well on WW. My clothes fit great again and I am not as bloated as I was. I paid for 3 months so I am going to keep going but will add in a bit. I am at a good weight for me right now. 7 points! But all those bar are high on points. I have been using my barcode scanner and it really has opened my eyes. However, when you run out of steam like you do you need to eat!

Carolyn...funny how everyone is different. We love our memory foam we added. I have heard though the new cooling technology is amazing! Enjoy your sleep!!! I feel the same way with RWH. I was so excited to get the dvds then quickly realized they had a dread factor for me. They were just not fun. I did like the premix of one of the workouts that has the abs throughout and the Low Impact workouts are good. But not enough for me to do regularly.

Off to start watching the pregame! It is just Bob and I watching the Superbowl and we have picked out some healthy snacks to keep things light. This is the first for us with light snacks as we usually go overboard.

Have a great night all.

DH isn't a warm sleeper but even he has trouble with our mattress in summer. It might be the pillow top structure itself. I want the spot I'm sleeping warm, but the rest of the mattress to stay cool so I can migrate to the cool spot as needed. the pillow tops seem to store and spread heat. good to know Carolyn, that you may have gotten a good one. I'm suspicious of the 'cooling" technology and probably will opt for the least complicated mattress I can find. could you name the brand? all of a sudden every big ad is talking about "cooling".

Lori I signed up for 3 months. yep, the scanner exposes some awful numbers! so do the calculations when you add in your own recipe.

when I do total body metabolic.. calling a "circuit" workout, giving it a time of 45 min. it comes to 12 or 15 points. Lori and Carolyn would you call it anything different? Mountain biking is not listed so I call it "spinning" rather than cycling. I think I get too many points but since I don't use the points, I don't see an alternative. mountain biking can be very hard going up and easy coming down rather than a consistent burn through the entire time. Carolyn I usually allow 2 fruits a day.

Valerie...yes that is what I have been doing. Most of my workouts actually I have listed "Circuit ". So explain the fitness points. If I get 15 in a day does that mean I can add on 15 points of food? I have not done this but there has been times where I may have gone a point or two over and not worried about it especially on days where I power jumped.

Lori, I am having trouble losing anything, so I don't pay any attention to accumulated exercise points. I'm not sure how they get used because then I might think about using them!
I stay as close to 30 points as I can. I have gone over on days I eat more carb-centric food but the calorie count is low. If it's a 400 cal dinner that uses more carbs, I let it slide. I am eating way less carbs than a few months ago.

Lori, WW says that physical activity is encouraged for its own sake, but "you also have the option of swapping earned FitPoints one to one for Smart Points". Like Valerie, I don't use them for more food. I think that my body has already factored them in as a part of my metabolism.

Valerie, the mattress is Tempurpedic.

Today was family brunch and my usual rest day. I always end up eating some things I shouldn't. Today was granola and Yoplait vanilla yogurt. I made muffins but did not eat any. Anyway, I guess I had my sugar. This was a fruit and seed granola in a tub. Then I come home and read that sunflower seeds should not be eaten on a low histamine diet. Unfortunately I have had a lot of them with the broccoli salad I made this last week. I would like to monitor what I consume a bit.

Judy, I understand space with the Jump Sport. I lean my urban rebounder up against the wall when not in use. I have so much stuff stuffed behind my heavy bag stand in the corner of my workout space. Do you work out in your living room? I used to do that and try to arrange things where some of my things were in the coat closet and some fit behind the sofa. It took so much to set up in the mornings. Your helpers are adorable :) Green Valley Organics has a good yogurt and kefir. Most of the time it depends on price which of my favorites I choose when I go to Sprouts. Ripped with Hiit has a lot more plyometric type work in it which makes it more of a dread factor.

Valerie, I would say you really like the Ice Metabolic workout :) People are just used to corn tasting like it does now. I tell my children and grandchildren they do not know what they are missing with all of this prepackaged junk that they live on and are obviously used to. They have changed the fats in older products and used more corn sweeteners and the original products do not taste the same as they used to . If those tastes are all they know it probably tastes fine to them. It seems like kind bars would have different point values since some have less sugar and some have more protein in them. I love those. I have learned not to pick up a box of them unless I have someone else to share them with. I pick one up once in awhile if I workout and head out of the house without eating anything since I do not usually eat a regular breakfast. I have coffee and a greens, collagen, lemon juice drink in the mornings before I workout. I go to bed and am cold and often wake up too warm in the middle of the night.

Lori, let me know if you figure out a way to keep the gloves from touching the watch. I can't read mine when I have the gloves on. I try to keep the gloves loose, but somehow it will keep changing the screen readings and sometimes just stop the watch. I guess I could play with it in other directions and see how it works for me. So you wear it upside down and then change the orientation? I don't think I can do that. My Fit Bit has settings for which arm is the dominant arm. I have used my rebounder for T25 Speed 3.0 for most of the moves except getting off for the lunge jumps. It has worked well for some workouts in place of step or floor. I had a series that I used to do that used a 10 inch step for the 20 minute cardio segment (choice of 10 inch step or treadmill) . It worked perfect for the step portion since it was not a lot of jumping over the step etc..

Carolyn, I know a couple of people who have purchased a Tempurpedic mattress and loved it.

I did a 40 min spin and core one from x train. that is my favorite ab workout. I didn't have time to look for the other ab ones we talked about.
Carolyn Sealy and Serta are the two brands I have on my radar.

I know I can't stand Heinze ketchup anymore.... too sweet. especially after it sits in the frig for a bit. it's IMO the high fructose corn syrup breaking down into it's components, which are plain old sugar molecules. it gets sweeter the longer it sits. ketchum used to be more tangy flavored. complex carbohydrates are just long chains of sugar molecules linked together. they break down to sugar eventually, which is fine, but simple sugars are metabolized faster because they are not linked together.
"new corn" doesn't taste like corn to me, it tastes like caramel corn. a generational difference?. I don't know what the structure of HFCS is, but it doesn't seem that sweet, but breaks down into its parts and becomes sweeter and sweeter.
I need to carry and be able to eat portable snack products. my best option so far is a Kind bar. It seems least sweet and mostly nuts. certainly better than M&M's or a peanut butter cup or a snickers. but 7 points? I am unhappy about that. an apple is nice but it does not do the trick when you feel like a bug that has hit the windshield at 50 mph.

Good morning,

No workout for me yesterday...I just can't get into it for some reason.

Diane Sue, I can always taste when any of those sweeteners are in something. They leave some kind of aftertaste or something.

Judy, glad you got your watch. Do you like it? Nice that you will have some extra money after trading the iPhone...are you getting something less expensive? Cute workout partners! :)

Valerie, the Siggi's yogurt is pretty healthy and not too much sugar. Good flavor choices too. Yes, mattresses are so difficult to choose...and then, you usually don't realize you don't like the new one until it is too late to return, or if you do, the return is such a hassle.

Carolyn, you will have to post the brand/style of the mattress that you got. I didn't realize how many people have problems with their mattresses.

Lori, what type of collar are you using with Gigi for leash walking? So clever to turn the watch around! I never would have thought of that.

Meeting an old friend that just retired for breakfast this morning, and class tonight...

Take care,

Today I did Rhythmic Step, the first workout in the February rotation. I did combinations 1, 2, and part of 3. I am trying to learn combo 3 and I need more practice. Total time was 50 minutes.

Deb most companies allow 3 months to decide on mattresses. it was my fault not to exchange it. I thought it was me, not the mattress. it's a very comfy mattress until you are on it for hours. I'd wake up around midnight and be unable to go back to sleep. I would toss around a lot trying to get comfortable, and would finally get up and go to the guest room. it took me a long time to realize it was the mattress itself. by then 3 months were up. guest room mattress is 20 yo and simple. it doesn't build up heat. the companies try to upsell you and want you to buy a $100 protective cover but those are heat reflectors too. you can still get plain cotton ones if you look carefully.
good luck on the yogurt. I thought siggi's was too sour. I don't eat that much yogurt by itself. I use a sugar free margarita mix but otherwise don't drink soda . there is some fake sweetener in the Yoplait light yogurt but not frequent for me.

It snowed last night. a major mess. probably 4 inches with more other places.. this area is not set up for snow removal. some years it doesn't snow at all, and it usually doesn't stay around for long. when it happens.... OMG what a mess. DH is cleaning off the driveway. it is steep and stays snow covered. we can't drive up and down unless we clear it. so glad it's gravel and not asphalt.

Today's workout was Strong and Sweaty PHA with the bonus abs mix, 65 minutes, 329 calories. It took me a bit longer because I bounced a few minutes on the rebounder to warm up and I had to stop and adjust weights a few times. This is my first time through the entire workout. Now I know the format I can make decisions on using the pre-mixes better. I did mostly Cathe's weights except for pull overs and overhead presses, also I did on my knees for most of the push up segment. I upped the weights to 15's on the step ups. I followed this with Kelly Coffey Strength and Stamina bonus step, 22 minutes, 160 calories and finished off with Suzanne Bowen Stretch upper body, 12 minutes, 18 calories. Total time was 99 minutes, 501 calories. Tomorrow I will do cardio and maybe some sort of stretch/flexibility work. I have my routine dentist appointment late morning.

Deb, so many of the sweeteners promise to not taste like sweeteners but they all taste bad to me. I see so many things saying that Xylitol blend measures and tastes like sugar. I totally disagree. It does not taste like sugar and you pay around 7 dollars for a little bag.

Carolyn, I always forget about Rhythmic Step. I used to do that one a lot. I would probably have to relearn it since it has been so long since I have done it.

Valerie, so far we have had such a mild winter. They sanded the freeway and had everything ready the last time we were supposed to have snow and we really did not have much of anything. It is supposed to be in the 70's the next two days. I don't envy you having to clear the snow. Our last two homes had very long driveways and clearing was a huge job. Of course one of the heaviest snow storms we have had since living in Oklahoma was when my husband was out of country. I tried to clear my way out because the snow stacked halfway up the garage door and the front door. A neighbor saw me and came out to help. I never liked ketchup. Maybe you could make your own and that way you could adjust the sweetness. I have made my own barbecue sauce from some paleo recipes that use very little sweetener in them. I like barbecue sauce on some things but unless I make some sauce I usually skip it. I have seen recipes for barbecue sauce that used fruit as a sweetener, like peaches. That is interesting how the HFCS changes over time.

Good afternoon ladies!

Bob and I took the day off knowing we would be up late watching the Superbowl. Was nice to sleep in a bit this morning. This morning I took GiGi for a 2 mile walk. She is so much like Chester walking. She is so strong and already drags me. Trying to get better control but it is so hard...at least it makes a great workout. Came home and subbed in SB's Adv Lower Body Fire for the lower scheduled for today. I then did 2 of her streaming bounces. One of them was the adv that really burns the glutes. The one move I have yet to get thru without having to stand out of it a couple of times is the supported chair. You are in the chair position while your full weight is holding and leaning from the bar. Wow this gets me everytime. I can do a regular chair position on the floor but the unstability of the jumpsport while leaning back burns. Total time was 58 mins/335 cal.

Deb...the collar is part of her leash and it works as a choke collar at the same time. I do not like it as I swear she is going to choke herself she pulls so hard. But this is what he recommends. She is doing great in the house and so much better with Nilla and the cats. It is the walking we now need to get under control.

Valerie...I need to pull up the Xtrain core workouts. I liked the Ice ones if I remember. Seems like it has been a while since I have done them. I did not know most companies allow a 3 month trial on mattresses. Good to know when bying one. For New England our Winter has been somewhat forgiven. I type this while watching the weather and they are saying a snowy mix tomorrow. All things considered we have had a cold but not a crazy snowy winter like we have had in the past.

Carolyn...nice job doing rythemic step. I think that is included in another dvd I have. I have never done rythemic and when I bought the dvd knew I never would! Thanks for the clarification on the fit points. Makes sense now.

Diane Sue...great job on PHA! You are doing awesome. I love incorporating my Jumpsport in all my workouts whether it is for warming up or cardio. Love it. I have been doing really good with bouncing pretty much everyday. Hope your dentist appt. went well.

Have a great night all!

Lori, that supported chair move sounds like a good one. I purchased Gertie one of those all in one leashes and I loved it till we were outside and she pulled and it broke. I ended up going back to the choke collar. I tried a harness but she did not do as well with it. With the choke chain she pulls way less. I hate it too. The one like yours was not quite as good for pulling but still worked pretty well. My vet liked it. He said he is always having people's dogs get loose that have just a collar with a leash attached. I have had Gerties slip right over her head and I hate putting it on tight. Gertie is not as bad as she used to be with pulling. If I do not take her out for awhile then she gets all excited and will pull more. It is definitely a workout when you are trying to control them. She is 79 pounds now. We stop and make her sit and wait when she pulls till we give her the go ahead to walk.

We used one of the "pinch" /spike collars with our dog, mainly because it held it's shape and didn't go loose and fall off like a choker. his head and neck were the same size so it would fall off. I'm not sure what current thinking is on training dogs to walk with you, but they should not be pulling at the end of the leash like a marlin on a line. we trained our guy not to do that. he would walk next to us between us or in front of us and not forge ahead. he was a pretty smart dog, but using the pinch collar helped. it didn't hurt him. didn't slide back and forth and scrape all the hair off his neck like a regular choker either. I went to a doggie obedience class at the Y because I didn't know how to train him.he. Was about 70 lbs we took him hiking and backpacking with us . He had to be able to follow orders tso avoid trouble plus he slept in a tiny tent with us.

Did ICE boot camp. some of it is hard and some easy. Too much time moving the step around. about 50 min with the stretch.
