Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/24

This mornings workout was Party Rock'n Step #2, 53 minutes, 372 calories, met 7.0, heart rate 143 average, 181 max, 4,552 steps and Coffey Fit Raw Core Movements, 24 minutes, heat rate 93 average, max 121, 79 calories, met 4.5, 161 steps. Total time 77 minutes, 451 calories, 4,713 steps.

Deb, you were lucky that it was in and out. I left without a few things that I wanted, because aisles were so congested it was just not worth it. Now I just have to hope that the weather is good enough next week to hit the store. Between it starting the weekend, in between storms, and the first of the month when people get paid, I think it all made it extra busy. I am hoping for Gertie to get over this, but if it stays to long we will go to the vet. She does not like me spraying the stuff on her. I do it before I feed her and give her a treat each time. This gives it a bit of time to dry so she does not mess with it. It dries kind of thick like dried silicone. I am guessing so they can't lick it off.

Valerie, I don't remember what carries the heart worms. I remember being told before. I wonder if a signal booster would help get the internet to work in other rooms. I had to do that in our last home since it was 3 levels and so large and just did not carry well from the downstairs family room at the lowest level, up to my workout room on the upper level.

Ok I looked it up, yes heartworm is transmitted by mosquitos. it is most prevalent in the south and southeast. it is an awful disease. if an infected mosquito bites your dog, he has a good chance to get heartworms. the disease is transmitted by mosquitos, not directly from dog to dog, like measles transmits in people. mosquitos pick up the worms from other infected animals when they take a blood meal from them. infected animals ... other dogs, coyotes, other wild animals etc,. then mosquitos pass it along when they bite the other animals after a short incubation period.
prevention is the best method. treatment is very serious and expensive. it is not hard to understand how the disease works. pictures are hard to look at. it spreads like malaria does in people... via mosquitos. its less common in cats, but there is no treatment if they get it. https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics
Deb, If I were you I would preventive treat your little guys. I would not take the chance of them getting it if it is possible to contract the disease in your geographic area. It is not a good strategy to test them for presence of the worms and then treat them, because the worms are so damaging and the treatment so harsh. Ask your vet to be sure because I am definitely not a vet
we rode our local trail this afternoon, 15 miles. it felt hard. about 1 .5 hours. It was cold. some snow patches left, but avoidable.

This morning I did Ellen Barrett’s Fusion Flow which was 45 minutes and 154 calories burned. My average heart rate was 101 and maximum heart rate was 140. The workout has cardio benefits in addition to stretching and strengthening without leaving me worn out. I like that.

Judy, you can find a few Ellen workouts on YouTube and video clips on Total Fitness and Collage Video. She started a streaming site last spring and is no longer making dvds. Some of her older workouts on Amazon are way too expensive now.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry that you had such an awful shopping trip at Walmart. Good workout today with Party Rockin Step and Raw Core Movements.

Deb, I hope you can find a way to make the bike less of a dread workout time.

Lori, I hope that you are doing okay.

Waving hello to Valerie. Enjoy your afternoon.

Good morning all!! I am still here! Ended up doing a lot of work travel this past week. Up early and home late. Needless to say I skipped several workouts from my last week of rotation. Going to get them in this week so I can say I did the rotation!! Lol! A lot to catch up on. My husband is traveling today and I am snow prepping. Ugh. Hate being alone during storms. He has a work food show in Boston today and tonight so it made sense for him to spend the night tonight and not be driving when the storm is its worst. My son is coming over this morning to help me with some prepping and I am making him breakfast. He will do anything for a hot meal! :)

I started reading this week’s post and will post on new thread when it is started!

Talk to you all soon!
