Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/12

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, unless you count sitting at the computer for hours with HP on the phone a workout. I was exhausted mentally that's for sure.

Valerie, what does your DH do for heartburn? Is he on PPI's?

Diane Sue thanks for the info on that bone broth protein. I need to go over to his site and look at that. Anything that is "healing' interests me. Hope all went well at your Dr appointment. Your cake sounds delicious.

Carolyn, I really like the Live version of Push/Pull. Is that the one you did? Agree, Tom Cruise does not fit the "Jack Reacher" image at all!

Lori, is there a spot on Amazon that lists the credit cards that get points? The problem have with Amex is that it is not accepted at all places. I have a Chase Visa that is a Southwest Airlines card, but to tell you the truth, we haven't flown SW in a while.

Dr appointment this morning...then work at the office. I also need to still get some stuff for the PC...call Microsoft and get help activating Office again.....sometimes I just hate technology, but we are now at a time when you can't live without it.

Take care,

TodayI did HiiT 30/30. I worked out earlier because we have a contractor working here now. They are working on our entryway replacing rotting wood and installing a new door. We are going from double doors to a single door with sidelights. It makes me anxious to have someone working on the house for some reason.

Valerie and Diane Sue, I like to use chicken breasts instead of thighs in some recipes. I prefer to use bone in breasts because they seem to have more flavor and they work better in the slow cooker.

Deb, I did Push Pull from the DVD. I haven't done a live workout in a while. I'm finding that I like the predictability of knowing what happens next and I don't always have time to preview a live workout.

We had a nice dinner at home for Valentines and of course I ate the dessert!

Enjoy your day.

I've been sore and gimpy for the last week with pain in my hip joint and on the bottom of one foot. yesterday after riding, I decided to take a short course of NSAIDS. Have them on hand for occasional use.
I felt strong after yesterday. there's one big hill ... long, steep, a turn near the top. it looks like you are at the top, but you make the turn and climb continues. anyway, got up it yesterday. I could do it by the end of the season last year but proud since this is only Feb. I took one dose of the meds, the pain went away in hours. what a relief. I always worry about the worst scenario... like I need a hip replacement etc. should have done this days ago, but I prefer to let things get better without help.

Deb, DH avoids hot spicy food and Indian food. the only meds he takes are antacid tabs when needed calcium carbonate. he sleeps with the head of the bed elevated, doesn't eat before bed time. no alcohol. It isn't a big issue usually. I know he took H2's or PPIs for a while but not for long.
Nothing like a few hours with tech service to burn you out. we've had a good run for a while but have been there. hope you got it worked though.
I tried to watch the Jack Reacher movie with Cruise but didn't like it. I didn't get through it. I don't like action movies very much.

DH doesn't like to eat meat off bones. won't eat fish with bones either. I quit buying and stick to bl/sl. between the two of us with our quirks, it's lucky we can eat together.
Upper body workout today after major shopping and some food prep.

diane sue.. bone broth sounds like you would use it in soup. it doesn't sound like it would 'go" with chocolate and honey or vanilla. what is it? .

Today I did Rapid Fire Sweat, 72 minutes, 634 calories. I then did Strong and Sweaty Ramped Up Double biceps timesaver, 21 minutes, 127 calories. I finished off with Barre Amped Strength and Stretch upper body stretch, 13 minutes, 29 calories. Total time 1 hour 41 minutes, 790 calories.

Deb, sitting at the computer for hours trying to fix something is tedious and always leads to a tremendous headache for me. I spent 6 hours on my daughter's once and went home with the worst migraine afterward. The problem ended up being between the firewall and Yahoo. I was just trying to set her up with an Avast anti virus account when her husband was out of country.

Valerie, I am with you on holding off on the nsaids at first. I tend to try stretching, rolling , and ice and heat for awhile. If it gets unbearable for too long then I resort to taking something. They do have a pure bone broth protein from Ancient Nutrition which Dr Axe sells. You can use it in soups. Really it is surprising that the vanilla is not too bad. Today I made a chocolate smoothie with bee pollen, bone broth protein, and some coconut, and So Delicious coconut milk. It was really pretty good.

Carolyn, I would imagine that the bone in chicken breasts would have more flavor. Funny thing is I started buying boneless when my children were young and one time I took my daughter and friends to the mall and she got Kentucky fried chicken. She wanted to know what that was in her chicken. She wouldn't eat it because there were bones and she thought that was gross. I also recently read something on bone broth and cooking meats and the fact that we are losing some nutrition by not having bones in our meats anymore. I keep thinking I should get one of the whole organic chickens from sprouts and cook it up for some homemade broth. I can hardly find beef soup bones anymore. Sprouts used to put them out. Maybe that will change. There are butcher shops around if I would just search one out.

Good evening ladies!

No workout this morning as I needed to go in very early. Well that was the plan anyways. Right when I was warming my car and putting my jacket on my boss texted and said he did not need me in early. Not sure why he did not text me the night before! Oh well...I was all ready so just headed to work and did my grocery shopping at the supermarket close by.

Diane Sue...amazon does accept visa for points. Just depends on what Bank issued it...I think they take Citi Bank and Chase not sure of the others. 790 calories! Wow that is impressive!

Valerie...soryy the snowshoeing did not work out. That is terrible to have the pains you have been having. I would be in a bad mood if that was me. You are fortunate the pain went away so quickly.

Deb...hope things went well at your doctor's appt. I will look to see where you tie in your cards to amazon. It has been so long that I linked mine! Is your computer all set now? Hoping so.

Carolyn...I love the three HiiT workouts on that dvd. The pyramid one is my favorite and I have done it many times. Dessert on Valentines Day is always nice. :)

Have a geat night all!

Hi Everyone,

I think I was fighting something this weekend as I had chills and body aches and didn't feel like doing anything. My stomach was a little off too. I didn't even try to do a workout Saturday or Sunday. I felt much better Monday. I did indoor rides Monday and yesterday and today I did a 10 Minute Solutions Core and Ab workout. My shoulder is still sore, but I think I can get back to upper body work tomorrow or Friday.

Deb-I'm sorry about your computer issues. I hope your doctor appointment went well.

Carolyn-I agree about knowing what happens next in a workout. I love the Live workouts but that is probably the main reason I don't do them as often. HiiT 30/30 is a really good one.

Valerie-I'm sorry you have been sore. I try not to over do the NSAIDS either, but they can really help when you need them.

Diane Sue-Great workouts! I previewed Rapid Fire 1 and I can't wait to try it. Looks like a fun and effective workout.

Lori-I ordered the Apple watch strap from twelve south, I think that's the one that you have. They didn't have it on Amazon but I was able to get it from the twelve south website. I'm looking forward to trying it out. I have an Amazon Visa card so I get points back on Amazon. It's 3% back for Amazon purchases and I think 1% for all others.

Judy

amazing what a few drugs will do. my hip is back to 100%. I don't know what caused the issue but I will keep it going for a week at half dose and see how it works out. it totally knocked down the discomfort in maybe 2 hours!. my foot is still sore but not as bad.
I did Ramped upper body, the whole thing. it actually goes pretty quickly if you don't stop often to record weights etc. it looks like a lot more on paper than it works out to be. I didn't do cathe's weight on most of it.... did 25 instead of 35, 15 instead of 20, 10 instead of 15 etc. still felt like a good workout especially at the speed they do it. I can always do triceps at her level and could go higher. I always can kick butt on triceps!. Did NOT like the sound track on this one. one song in particular. I had a note to go to vocals only, but didn't take time to do it. I should have. I feel like I could go up on weight significantly on this one if I do it a few more times. nothing tricky here except the lateral side raises with the little partials. wow ...those are nasty. even 5 lbs feels over whelming. I am just holding in place and not going up and down.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I had an early Dr appointment, then went to work at the office.

Carolyn, so exciting getting the entrance way spruced up! That was my favorite part of our recent "re-do".

Valerie, so glad the meds worked on your pain...I must have missed that you were snowshoeing....I thought it was from all that work you do over and above the normal workouts!

Diane Sue, Nice workout! I really like the dark meat of any poultry...I do like breasts, but always get boneless. They sometimes seem dry to me, if just baked or broiled. plain.

Lori, that is too bad that your boss delayed telling you that you didn't have to go in early, but at least you got your shopping out of the way. Thanks for the info on the Amazon/credit card points....I would love to get hooked up with that. I spend a lot on Amazon. I have a Chase Visa, but it is a Soutwest one so I bet there is no way they would give me Amazon points for that. How do you get a plain Visa that is not already sponsored by someone like Southwest?

Still have to call Microsoft and get my Office programs activated, and my internet provider to get my email linked to Outlook...ugh...it is ever easy?

Take care,

Deb we tried to do a snowshoe or ski but very icy on the roads from some freezing rain in the mountains, and could not get even close to where we wanted. Plus my hip was so sore I wasn't confident about walking on 'shoes since I need to walk wide. That's where my hip hurt. biking was fine and weather was lovely andSpringy. anyway, the pain went away as soon as I took one pill. Advil didn't help at all. so I guess I don't need a hip replacement yet !
More food texture issues with dark meat poultry. I never liked it. now that I can buy only the parts I want, it's a win-win. if you like the thighs, you can buy those separately too. even the turkey this year was a stand alone turkey breast. when you roast it by itself, no need to over roast it to get the dark meat done.

I am surprised how much I liked Ramped up. I've done all of it before in pieces, premixes, but maybe not beginning to end. Took less time than I expected and no "dread" or waste- of- time moves, meaning things that are too hard or too easy.

My workout today was more flexibility. I did a warmup from Turbo Barre, then Barre Amped Thigh Work and stretch. It was a nice change of pace.

Lori, I have not done the HiiT Pyramid workout. I always select one of the others. 30/30 is the easiest. Too bad having to get up earlier for work only to be told not to bother. I'm glad that you were able to do something productive with your time.

Deb, what happened to your computer? I hate to spend time trying to solve computer issues.

Judy, glad that you are feeling better. I am previewing my Rapid Fire workouts and I plan to try one tomorrow.

Valerie, Ramped Up Upper Body is a great workout. I really like it too.

Diane Sue, it's wonderful to see that you are getting back to normal with your workouts.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Today's workout was Cardio Slam timesaver step cardio only premix, 18 minutes, 130 calories. This was for a nice warm up before weights. I then did Strong and Sweaty ramped up double back minus the stretch mix and double shoulders minus the warm up premix, (still took extra time to write weights down and change things) 52 minutes, 256 calories. I am moving up on the upper body weights somewhat. If something feels uncomfortable I drop the weight or skip it. My strength is coming back. Biceps yesterday was pretty much all Cathe;s weight , but I was able to do some isolation work for biceps before I was able to start other things that indirectly pull in some chest too. . Today I started with 25's for the 1 arm rows but by the second time through all of it I went for 20's. I had a 30 ready since Cathe was doing 35# but I soon discovered that was ay to heavy. I could feel it pulling some in the chest. pull overs was really light at 15# and then a 12# dumbbell. Overhead press I did one set of 20 and dropped to 15's. the rest was Cathe's weights. I have decided to skip a chest workout this week. I still want to do Susan Chung Rapid Fire this week and it has a metabolic weight segment in it so I do not want to do any other upper than what is on it. I finished off with Les Mills Flow, 21 minutes, 46 calories. Total time was 91 minutes, calories 432. I need to go set up a second Roku I bought for my husbands birthday (which is not here for a few days yet) I hope I do not run into issues since I already have one hooked up. I want to move it, because it is a stick , to the bedroom so Bill can watch programs on Netflix, Amazon, and Vudu while working out. So, I bought him a Roku 3 for the livingroom television which has the stick right now. I think it will work better for him. Hopefully I can keep them on the same account. I kind of dread the set up just in case there are problems.

Deb, It sounds like you had a full day yesterday without a workout. I wish I could like chicken thighs. They cost less and they have some nutrients that you do not get from chicken breast. Yes, the boneless chicken breasts gets dry easily unless they are cooked in a soup or casserole type of dish. I do like them just fried up in coconut oil though.

Valerie, I have not done Ramped Up Upper as a total workout yet. I was thinking today that it shouldn't be too bad since each body part is only done once and it flows nicely through the moves from finishing one part and moving to the next. I think when I am ready to do chest, the moves do not look like too much to tackle. I will probably do knee push ups at first.

Lori, my visa is a CU visa. So, I am betting it won't work. That is too bad they didn't let you know before hand to not come into work that early.

Judy, I hope you are feeling better. Whatever I had felt almost like the flu but with a 99.9 fever at one point. I didn't feel like doing much for awhile. The Rapid Fire workouts do have a modifier for moves. I always feel at first like I am not working that hard but then I start racking up the calorie expenditure and by the end I feel like I have really worked out. I do not have a dread factor for any of them. Sweat seems like it has quite a lot of punching and upper body stuff. I had not done it very many times because I purchased just before knee surgery and of course I couldn't do kickboxing for quite a long time. I pulled all 4 workouts out of my case so I could work them in for awhile.

Hi Everyone,

No workout today. I started feeling sick again last night and felt horrible this morning. I had a bad sore throat and earache. I went to urgent care and they said I have pharyngitis and an ear infection. They tested for strep, which was negative. I guess they had a bunch of strep cases the past few days. The doctor gave me a prescription for 5 days of steroids.

Deb-I got my Visa from the Amazon website. I'll try to find a link for it.

Valerie-I really like Ramped Up Upper Body too. It's short, but really gets the job done. I'm looking forward to getting back to S & S soon.

Carolyn-I was planning to do a Rapid Fire workout tomorrow, but I think I'll have to wait until next week.

Diane Sue- I had a fever this morning and I'm still having chills. My temp was normal at urgent care.
I think I'll go ahead and order the 4th Rapid Fire workout. I'm really looking forward to doing them.

Hi to Lori & Caitlin,

Judy

Judy, I hope that the medicine kicks in and you feel better quickly. I love all of the Rapid Fire workouts. I think it is hard to choose a favorite as they each have a different format. I have used the premixes a lot. Each has some ab work that is somewhat different from the usual ones. There are lots of different kicking and punching sequences. You have plenty of time to learn them. In sweat she adds on as you pick up the moves. There is a lot of strep going around. My daughter used to get it often when teaching. I have never tested positive for it when they test. They did a test for it when I first went to the doctor with the lymph node problem. Also for mono.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, but I am going to do a treadmill workout this morning, even if I have to force myself to go down there and do it.

Valerie, glad the med worked on your hip. I really like S&S Ramped up too! Almost a perfect upper body workout. No dread factor for me either.

Carolyn, great job with Turbo Barre....one of Cathe's hardest...IMO. Something happened with my computer when I uninstalled the printer drivers because the printer was not sending the documents I was trying to print to the print queue. The diagnostic stuff said I needed to install new drivers for the printer, but should uninstall what was there first. Afterwards, I could not get the home screen to fully load on the desktop and it went downhill from there. I had to have it reset to factory settings, which basically brings it back to where it was when it came out of the box. All my files and documents were backed up on my external hard drive but all software has to be reloaded etc. The printer now doesn't exist on this pc, so maybe just installing it from scratch will be ok. I am not going to do it though will be calling HP to help. Probably more than you wanted to know...LOL :).

Diane Sue, great that your strength is coming back...smart to drop down in weights especially for chest, pull overs etc. Did the Roku install easily? I really like using chicken thighs in soups.

Judy, I hope you are feeling better once the meds kick in. Not sure what pharyngitis is. Good that it wasn't strep.

A workout, then hair cut/color for me today.

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Busy day yesterday. shopping at Costco, office max, feed store, and a fair amount of cooking too ...squash soup for lunch and a tofu stir fry for dinner.
Did total body metabolic again for an uncomplicated workout.

Deb good for you.....just do it. You will feel better after you do. just comfortable level. Computers are such a pain when something gets "off" I've been lucky for a long time without issues like that.
Judy so sorry you are so sick. do the usual ...stay warm, rest, fluids. hope you feel better soon. Hope your DH doesn't get it too. double misery.
Diane sue..Cathe used 35's in Ramped Up for one arm rows too. I am good with 25's maybe 30's eventually. especially when Ramped up does more than one exercise targeting the same area in fast sequence, I don't push too hard on the first move so I have some strength left for the second. my goal is all reps completed before pushing up on weight for the first one. 35's sound pretty far of a reach for me. I will go to 25s with weighted gloves next. I remember grabbing 30's once .... thinking they were 25's ...and not noticing until I was done and couldn't understand why I was so spent.

Today I did Rapid Fire Results. It's a great workout and not hard to learn. I did not use weighted gloves and I followed the modifier for some moves. I didn't do the compound weights round because I plan to do weights tomorrow.

Deb, I was having a similar problem with my HP printer and Windows 10, but it seems to be resolved now. I kept having to reinstall the print drivers.

Hello to everyone.

Today I did Susan Chung Rapid Fire Results, 74 minutes, 572 calories. I then did Ice Core 2, 13 minutes, 52 calories. Total time 87 minutes, 626 calories. My husband and I went tot he Garage for lunch today and I am sure my bison burger was probably more calories than I burned. Loads of gooiness, but yummy. Bleu cheese and peppers. It was spicy. Tomorrow I will do lower body. My grandson 6 is spending the night tonight.

Judy, I hope that you are feeling better today.

Deb, if you can get back into some short workouts, maybe you will eventually feel like doing them regularly again. For me it is just a habit to workout. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I do not have to do a workout if I don't want to. Yes, the Roku's both work fine and I only had one glitch and that was because my laptop seemed to lose the internet right at the point where I had put the cod in. The new Roku installed the channel line up automatically anyway. I also had a hang up when it asked resolution of the television screen, I had no clue. Then it froze a box on the screen saying I hadn't chosen a resolution. I couldn't get out of it so ended up unplugging the Roku. When it came back on it went back to where I left off so all was good. This Roku 3 has a much better picture quality than the stick did. The stick was simple to set up in the bedroom. I didn't have to do much other than plug it in and push the source switch. My husband was happy this morning when he was able to use something besides old dvds that he has watched over and over.

Valerie, there was a time when STS came out that I had worked up to 40's for 1 arm rows. I have since dropped to 30's or 35's for slower paced workouts. I picked up a 30 with Ramped up and after a couple of reps I knew that was just too much for me right now. I am afraid I would strain something else. That is funny on grabbing heavier weights and not noticing. I have done that before. I have a pair of dumbbells that I can change the weight plates on so I can get some other weight increments since I have some 2.5 lb weight plates. I sometimes go up 1@ by adding a dumbbell that has a handle onto the bar. The gloves are a good idea to raise the weight slowly. Squash soup sounds good.

Carolyn, the metabolic workout on Rapid Fire Results is 15 minutes and they use 4,5,,or6# dumbbells. Chris (the guy) uses the 6# and Susan uses 5. I used 5 today. There is a good premix on there that does each section adding one of the weighted metabolic segments to it. I always liked it. There is also a couple of premixes where you can do two of the kickboxing cardio segments with two of the metabolic strength segments. I almost did the one that had biceps and triceps with the two cardio kickbox segments. You will get lower body and more kicks with the upper weight work.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did a Cardio Coach workout on the treadmill.

Valerie, what is your recipe for squash soup? I love squash! Great job with the weights on Ramped Up.

Carolyn, I don't want to mess around again with this printer, so I will call HP and have them do it remotely. They did it once before, but somehow it got messed up and I decided to do it myself. Bad idea. Is there a web site to view the Rapid Fire workouts? It sounds like this is a set...do they come together?

Diane Sue, I take it The Garage is a popular restaurant in your area? That burger sounds spicy all right! Nice that the Roku was easy to install.

Agility class this morning,

Take care,

Deb, nice work on the treadmill yesterday :) Yes, the garage is a chain. There is several in our area. The Generally I get their taco salad with bison as my meat choice. They tend room grass up their buns, I guess the grill them. I did not eat the bottom half of the bun because it soaked up so much wet with the paper in the basket and I was picking up wet paper with it. I finally got a fork and knife to eat it. Their taco salad is lnot so greasy and it just has a couple of large tortilla wedges with it that can be removed. They are always very busy. I thought about trying their Baja tacos. It has breaded fish in it though.
