Good morning,

Yesterday was a rest day, only activity was agility class.

Judy, we did get snow, but not as much as they predicted. We were able to go out and about with no issues. The one time I bought that pure stevia, it came with a teeny tiny spoon to use for the same reason, the amount to use was so small it had to have its own serving spoon.

Valerie, great that your foot is almost back to normal. Did you already see the doctor or is that coming up? I am envious that you are having spring already! I am one that would rather have a teaspoon of maple syrup in oatmeal than any of the other types of sweeteners. I could always "taste" stevia, truvia etc. Seemed kind of chemical to me.

Diane Sue, that was a long time working out! 16% body fat? That is awesome! Keep the 2 pounds. :).

Lori, yes, it seems like they grow from a puppy to full grown in a heartbeat! My cousin just got a Golden puppy, he is a bundle of fur, and so cute. Good that you got the travel case. Yes, you can sub anything that has a KB with a dumbbell. I have an external hard drive, but do not know how to use it! The last time I thought I backed up my whole system, my tech guy said nothing was on it...:(

Hi to Carolyn,

A workout, and HouseMax for me. We have our dog club's annual awards dinner tonight. Unfortunately, no awards for us this year. Definitely next year though. :)

Take care,

Hi Ladies,
Today is a rest day. The weather here is rainy and cool which is perfect for relaxing.

Deb, enjoy your dinner tonight.

Valerie, I am glad that your foot is getting better. I have never had plantar fasciitis but I understand that it can be very painful.

Judy, the Barlates set looks interesting, especially the Step Barre Fusion. That one really appeals to me.

Diane Sue, 16% body fat is amazing. You should be very proud of getting it down the way that you wanted. The 2 pounds are good pounds although I can understand wanting the achievement without the added pounds.

Lori, as always you are getting in a great combination of workouts.

Have a great day everyone.

Deb, I will cancel the doc appt. He can't tell me anything about this I don't already know. I made the appt in case it didn't get better and needed a cortisone shot. I had this once before so it's not chronic for me. some people suffer from it all the time! the first steps in the morning are agonizing. I used crutches for several days, I could not step down on it at all. Ice helped the most. the first morning, I called DH on the phone because he was downstairs already, and asked him to bring the crutches because I couldn't walk. the diarrhea made it important to get to the bathroom. OH what a bad combination!
I most likely stepped on my foot wrong in the middle of the night running to the bathroom. I don't remember if I had shoes on or not. It has healed quickly. today I will do a workout, probably a short spin and then some weights. I feel decent for the first time today.
diane sue that is amazing. 16%. wow.

Lori Gigi is not a puppy any more!. such a pretty dog. can we get more pictures?

I may try plain stevia or just skip it and use my big spoon of brown sugar. I use so little sweetener otherwise, but oats need it.

anyone enjoying the Olympics? we are lucky the local NBC channel is carrying it because we can't figure a way to stream it.

Good afternoon ladies,

Today was the “Off” day from the rotation, but I still felt like working out so I did a bounce from the 4 sites that I stream. I started with BBS, then a LEKfit, then a Bellicon and ended with SB. Total time was 77 mins. Was fun bouncing with different styles.

Deb...fingers crossed for next year for your doggies. Oh no! Nothing on your hard drive! Well that stink’s. I have 3 external hardrives. One I connect to my tv that has the workouts of my favorite instructors. Then one that has my entire library...then the other is the back up of my entire library! I have another that has some workouts too. Can never be too safe! :)

Carolyn...been rainy and cold here today too. I have not left the house and do not plan too. I just colored my hair and plan to take a nice relaxing bath with some epson salt. Does anyone still use epson salt? My mom always did and I am just used to it.

Diane Sue...I have no idea what my body fat is. I know I am not as low as you though. That is amazing!!!! Other than being weighed at my physical last week - I do not weigh myself at all and have been going by how I feel and the way my clothes fit. I was very pleased at the doctors, so will keep not weighing myself since it seems to be working for me. :)

Valerie...I am glad your foot is better. I will post some pictures tomorrow. She is so beautiful and was hilarious at the Vet. The tech walked in and she would do a circle then drop for belly rubs...doctor walks in and same thing. They all loved it. She is a cutie! I have not watched any of the Olympics. Been meaning too but just have not had the opportunity.

Have a great afternoon all!!!

Rest day and family day today. Brunch was pancakes. Not really on my eating plan, but with no breakfast or lunch I had pancakes and coffee:)
It was so cold today. Windchill was somewhere around 1 below. Our church had to use electric heaters to warm the auditorium this morning as there is a glass leak in the outside line and the utility company said it was a bigger job than anticipated and did not get it fixed Friday. They just cut off the gas to the line. We had to dress warm this morning. Still no precipitation here in the city. Temps will be back up tomorrow and I have errands to do. Last night I finished crocheting a pair of Amigurumi manatees qt midnight for my granddaughter's birthdays. She loves manatees and gets books about manatees all of the time. This was a mom and baby one. Both are small.

Ladies, thanks on the body fat %. I really was feeling like I should not have posted about my obsession with all of those details. I guess by now you all know I am a bit over the top with details being right.

Deb, your agility classes are workouts in themselves. Enjoy the awards dinner. I just started putting things on an external drive. My older computer was backed up to CD's and the newest is backed up on a thumb drive that is labelled. Those things are not always that reliable to keeping things. My daughter lost a whole external drive of teaching files that she had saved. She was never able to replace all of it. Fortunately she has friends that helped a bit.

Carolyn, I like the cool rainy weather days where I can just sit and relax and read. Enjoy the rest of your day :)

Valerie, the combination of foot pain that is that bad and having to make trips to the bathroom would be terribly miserable. I am glad the foot is getting better. I imagine staying off the foot would help immensely. I was always bad about continuing trying to do things. Brown sugar would be my preferred sweetener for oatmeal with maple syrup as the secondary sweetener. I just always feel that all of the artificial sweeteners do not taste right. Stevia is the best as far as taste, but it still does not taste that good and I want my food to taste really good when I eat it, not just be tolerable.

Lori, nice job on stringing bounce workouts together. It is funny I used to always call it rebounding and now I tend to just call them bounce workouts :) My obsession has led to me having two different manual bodyfat calipers ( one really requires help), a digital caliper that measures 3 areas and calculates for you, and the Omron. I think I mentioned all of these before. Oh, and my scale which I don't pay much attention to except pounds. I sometimes think it is just stuck on some readings. I tried tapping it to help it recalibrate. Maybe it needs reset. I have had to do that as well. I really do not weigh often. I used to just stick the scale in the cabinet and pull it out to stand on once every couple of months or so. Gigi sounds so fun.

I felt much better and did a workout today. weird with the foot. It went from definitely needing crutches to walk, to almost nonexistent problem in about 24 hours. not complaining!! I did a 35 min spin, the Icy core workout and the triceps MM. for a total of about 1 hour. felt great.

yes, I get my oatmeal for breakfast and I want it good, not just "bearable" to shove down. I can use way too much honey or maple syrup though, so brown sugar is best choice.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live PHA 3. Another great PHA workout. This one could be my favorite out of all of them.

Valerie, glad your foot is better. Maple syrup is my "go to" for oatmeal. According to the NG's, something about how it metabolizes slower or something? Carolyn will know...

Carolyn, what is the info the NG's say about why maple syrup is better than sugar?

Lori, great way to incorporate all your streaming sources! Yes, apparently there nothing on the external drive after I thought I had backed up my computer. I guess I am really clueless as to how to use it. It did not come with any directions. I thought that was strange, so I figured you just plugged into the USB port etc. It showed up as a device, but that was it I guess. I can see why the people at the vet would love Gigi.

Diane Sue, that is too bad about the heat in church...brrrr.. Can you post a pic of the crocheted manatees? I am the same with stevia or any of those sweeteners, even if they are natural.

Hi to Judy!

A workout, then Puppy class this morning,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Saturday I did PHA Training and last night I did a short yoga session. Yesterday we had a mix of snow & freezing rain most of the day. It looks like this week will be a little better, but I see snow in the forecast for next week. :(

Deb-I want to do the PHA 3 Live workout this week. That's too bad about your external drive :( I have one that I use for backups and I also use Drop Box.

Valerie-I'm so glad your foot is better! Nice workouts! I mostly use the Now stevia in tea.

Diane Sue-That's great about your body fat, 16% is awesome! I agree with Deb, keep the 2 pounds!

Lori-That's a great idea to hook up an external drive to your TV. I have a usb drive with spinerval downloads on it, but I could get a lot more on an external drive. I agree about never being too safe. I think I need to pick up another drive and start organizing my workout downloads and getting them all in one place.

Caroline- I think I'm going to like the Step Barre Fusion too. That one caught my attention and was why I ordered the DVD. I plan on trying it this week.

Have a great day!

Judy

This morning I did Kick Max, 74 minutes, 483 calories, Met 6, heart rate 121 average, max 162 max, 4,543 steps. I then did Fit Tower legs, glutes, and core time saver core and stretch, 19 minutes, 63 caloreis, met 3.0, 228 steps, heart rate 91 average, 126 max. Total workout time was 93 minutes, 546 calories, 4,771 steps . I have to get out and do errands and start getting some cleaning and tasks caught up. I am finding that the older Cathe workouts seem to have a lower metabolic listing and calorie burn that seems more realistic. I am wondering if it is because I am doing cardio ones that do not require weights or something that boosts metabolism a bit more? Although not all of the newer ones require weights, but then there are a lot of to the floor and up moves. I guess I am just trying to figure out the method to it. I guess I could google. I am planning on doing Kelly's Strength and Stamina #1 tomorrow and adding the Build and Burn Upper to this.

Valerie, that is great that you are so much better and got a workout in :) I also use black strap molasses occasionally. It has a strong flavor, but with some cinnamon is tasty to me and it provides iron for those who need it.

Deb, I will come back later and post a picture of the manatees. Enjoy exercise and puppy class today :)

Judy, it is odd, but tea is the one thing that I can drink hot without cream or sweetening and the same with iced tea. I like unsweetened. The only tea I like with some cream is Chai without sugar. I am hoping to fit in a bit of extra yoga in later. I don't have that many workout downloads yet. Just Cathe's, RWH, S&S, Fit Tower, and Fit Split. I probably should put them in a Cathe folder though just in case I ever purchase any others.

I've tried maple syrup, honey, and agave on oatmeal. I over do it. I have better control with brown sugar. always some kind of fruit on oatmeal. winter is half an apple. It's almost the only "straight" sugar I use. I don't like my coffee sweetened. I have tried again and again to like tea, but I don't. I get a funny dry mouth feel from tea. seldom drink it hot or iced but definitely not sweetened. so this is a big deal over not many calories and my blood glucose levels are fine.
.
Wow blackstrap molasses is strong stuff!. I use it in baking occasionally not straight.

I am off to the store this morning. will look again at the plain stevia options. this doesn't probably amount to enough calorie saving to be worth it. If I used it in coffee and tea too, then it would add up to significant but oats are the only thing I like sweetened .
its sunny today so will ride later. no soreness from yesterday's workout.

Today I did Intensity, the step only premix, for 37 minutes and 259 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate 167. This is a high impact step workout but I made it mostly low impact for me. After that I did Yoga for Strength and Stability by Nadia Narain for 21 minutes and an additional 53 calories.

Deb, maple syrup is high in B vitamins and has minerals including zinc, manganese, and potassium. I buy the dark color which was called grade b until recently. It has a more robust flavor and a little goes a long way.

Valerie, I sometimes use brown sugar if I’m having my oatmeal with apple and cinnamon. You are right, it’s such a small amount that you should use the brown sugar if you want it. As we all know, any sweetener should be used in moderation, but you want to enjoy your food.

Diane Sue, pancakes for brunch sounds good. No heat in the auditorium should make for a shorter service :). I have no idea what my percentage of body fat is, but it’s certainly less than it was! I agree with you about the older workouts as compared to newer ones. Many of the newer workouts are designed to have a cardio effect in addition to the strength training.

Lori, I use Epsom salts for a good soaking bath too. I add lavender or some other essential oil for the added aromatherapy.

Judy, I will be interested in your thoughts after you do the new workout. Did you like her Drop Sets? I read that it’s hard.

Hello to Janet and Melanie.

Carolyn-I do like Drop Sets. It was harder than I expected. The first one I did was Chest & Triceps and I was sore, in a good way, for at least 3 days afterwards.

Diane Sue-I think you are right about the older workouts and the Met values. I don't like sweetener or sugar in coffee but I do like cream.

Lori-I also use Epsom salts for soaking. It really seems to help with sore muscles.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was Tabatacise and this was my only workout. Didn’t feel I needed anything else. Tomorrow the rotation calls for Shred Cardio and Pull. I find this odd after Tabatacise. I will sub in another workout but still do Pull.

Deb and Judy...I sent you the Live Excel sheet. It has been since October that I last updated! Yikes! So sorry!

Diane Sue...pancakes and coffee sound great! Once in a blue moon when we go out for breakfast I will order blueberry pancakes and I enjoy every bite. Yum! Funny about your details. I love reading everything you type no matter how detailed. :). We all have our obsessions. The manatees are adorable. So cute. SB and Lekfit calls them Bounce workouts so I have been using that term more frequently than rebounding. I for some reason think I did not care for Kick Max. Will need to take a peek at it.

Valerie...so glad your foot is better! Yeah that it moved on quickly. I love oatmeal but limit when I eat it due to the high carbs. So when I do eat it it better be delicious! Growing up I loved cream of wheat with maple syrup and a little milk. I have been following the news how there will be an agave shortage soon! Just saw this today.

Deb...once it shows up as a device you need to copy to it. Think of it as a USB drive or thumb stick some call it. Good to know about PHA3. I like to do a total body on the weekends. I have not watched the clip yet but will do so after I post here.

Carolyn....funny when I used to do Intensity I did everything but the step portion! This is one tough workout! I never knew that about maple syup. I will make sure I buy the dark. Love the nutritional content. Never thought to add Lavender to my bath. I started getting interested in essential oils and this is one that I have.

Judy...the hard drive I have hooked to my TV is 2TB’s. The other backup ones are 4TB’s each. These are huge hard drives and they work fine on one of my TV’s but too large for another to read. I started doing this a while ago. I have an older laptop hooked to the tv and the hard drive hooked to this. Would take to long for the laptop to boot up so one day I just hooked the hard drive straight to the TV. Now I never use the laptop and I love it. Everything is at my fingertips. No changing discs...just press a couple of buttons and the workout is there and I am happy!

I received my lab results. My diabetes is in great control, my cholesterol on the other hand is not. Came in at 221. With diabetes I need to be at 100 or below. So pretty sure she will be prescribing something for me. :(

Carolyn, I used to buy the grade b maple syrup too and then couldn't find it anymore. I know some of the other natural sweeteners have some nutrients and fiber in them like coconut sugar. I use that in place of some of the brown sugar in recipes just to make it a bit healthier. Sometimes I would rather just do the strength work by itself and the cardio by itself. I think having it mixed into the cardio and then having strength days can sometimes be too much without enough recovery. Particularly as I get older.

Valerie, I agree with the others, I would stick with the brown sugar since it is just your oatmeal. I love the strong taste of black strap molasses. Maybe because my mother used to get it or sorgum and make cornbread that she would dip it in. :) I used to make my children gingerbread cookies with black strap molasses and wheat germ. They loved it. I recently made cookies with it and some nut flour added as part of the flour and my family that was here for Wednesday dinner loved them.

Lori, I felt that some of the workouts in the one month Fit Split rotation being done after each other were a bit odd. It felt like a lot of thought was not put into the rotation planning. I did it as it was set, but I was glad when I was done with it. Have you used Purple Player? I would like to sign up for Kelly Coffey's Raw for a bit, but am not sure if I have to use my tablet that I have the Purple Player app on. I have not tried screen mirroring with it. I see the feature on my tablet, but have never tried it. I used to have a dread of Kick Max because the 4 rounds of kickbox were all low impact, which used to feel light to me, but was just right today. The other reason is the drills in the last part that have a lot of impact. I used my rebounder for some of it and that worked great today. It ends with the conditioning drills which I used to do by themselves. Actually I took note that there is a premix that is the low impact kickboxing and conditioning drills with the chair. I used the Fit Tower for this :) If you saw my notes, I even keep the exact time started on the workouts and make other notes. I write down Cathe's Met values and calorie burns for comparison. I get rid of that part after awhile. I also use epsom salts with essential oils. I like the scent of rose or ylang ylang. That is too bad about the cholesterol. Could you adjust your diet to help? My son in law has a problem with it and of course my daughter monitors him like a hawk. She said he got it down by adding exercise and eating oatmeal every day. Also, he started taking his lunch to work instead of eating out.

Lori-Thanks for the Live spreadsheet! That is awesome! Your TV and hard drive setup sounds perfect. It would be nice not to have to change discs. I'm sorry about your cholesterol :( Is the 221 total or LDL?

Diane Sue-The manatees are so cute! I agree about having weights mixed in with cardio. I enjoy the metabolic workouts but I prefer to have weights and cardio separate. I just signed up for Kelly's Raw streaming to try it out and I didn't have to use Purple Player. Her streaming is through Vimeo. I can log into it on my iPad but I haven't tried mirror it to my Apple TV yet. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow.

I will try a few other things while working with brown sugar.. I bought some pure stevia today to test, in a while. I have maple syrup I could try but I tend to get heavy handed with liquid sweeteners. I'd like to use less sugar. I keep sticking my spoon back in to get a little more!. I find blackstrap overwhelmingly strong. won't be using that!. I use a ton of cinnamon however, an amount most people would cringe at. Funny, I used to get the grade b also, and it had a more intense flavor but haven't seen it in a long time now.

Lori 221 is a little high but it depends more on HDL and, like judy said, LDL. If your HDL is high, then a 221 might be fine. there are different ways to interpret the numbers.

The Manatees are adorable!

we did a mt bike today, 90 minutes. it was 39 degrees and just fine going uphill, but shade spots and downhill were COLD. so we cut it short and will wait until a few degrees warmer.

Thanks ladies...I need to talk to my doctor to explain...

221 total
81 hdl
126 ldl
140 non hdl

The total, hdl and non hdl were all flagged as high. :(

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Cardio Circuit Challenge Express. 38 minutes, 227 calories. I checked back in my notes after doing this one, and found that I rated it a 2out of 5...way too many exercises to have to modify. I guess I should look at my notes before doing a workout, not afterwards.

Judy, I think you will really like the PHA 3 workout. Looking into Carbonite for automatic backup. Do you like Dropbox? Is it an automatic back up program? We have lucked out with the weather...some freezing rain but not too bad.

Diane Sue, when you say that the older Cathe workouts have lower metabolic numbers and calorie burn, do you mean what is listed on Cathe's workout manager? Where do those come from? I drink both coffee and tea black, with no sugar or honey etc. I like iced tea sweetened, although I can drink the unsweetened one with no problem. Love the pic of the manatees.

Valerie, I think the spoon you get with pure stevia is about 1/16 of a teaspoon. Great that you are back to riding etc. Too bad about the weather.

Carolyn, thanks for the info on maple syrup. I knew it had some good benefits. :).

Lori, Great that your lab results were so good. 221 is high?? The important number is the ration between LDL and HDL. I would look into that further before taking the meds...they can have so negative side effects. I also found that some of the workouts in the FS rotations did not make sense being back to back. I can look at copying to the external drive, but what do you copy in order to get all your files and programs etc?

A workout, then class this morning...

Take care,

Lori, here is what is on my results regarding "good" ranges etc: My Dr says he would not put me on meds even though the total and my LDL are higher than the range they like to see because of my HDL and the ration of HDL to LDL.

High HDL is good! But maybe because you have diabetes ( see note below) they are using a different standard ranbe.

Component Your Value Standard Range
CHOLESTEROL 259 <199 MG/DL

HDL 90 MG/DL >50 MG/DL

CHOL/HDL RATIO 2.9 CALC <5.0 CALC

LDL CHOL (CALC) 151 MG/DL 0 - 100 MG/DL

LDL-C is now calculated using the Martin-Hopkins
calculation, which is a validated novel method providing
better accuracy than the Friedewald equation in the
estimation of LDL-C.
