Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/9

I just got my workout in this afternoon. I went to my grandson's Christmas program and then ran to a couple of stores. I am tired now. I got up extra early to get ready and go out.
I did Les Mills On Demand, Body Combat Short workout #72, 21 minutes, 139 calories, met 6.0, heart rate average 142, max 177, 1,376 steps. This worked for a good warm up :) I then did Coffey Fit Raw really Raw, 38 minutes, heart rate average 118, max 159, met 4.6, 193 calories, 1,260 steps. Total time 59 minutes, 332 calories, 2,636 steps. This turned out to be a great workout. The pace was perfect and I loved it. I really like the use of the kettle bells.
I used a 15# kettle bell for most of the warm up where Kelly is using ropes. I did swings. I started out and ended with a few jacks. This is 30 seconds work and brief rest
1 arm dumbbell rows 15# , kettle 1 arm rows 20#
body weight squats knee up body weight, 15# kettle bell squats, 20# kettle bell squats
body weight knee turn in alternating sides and up
boxing side to side center punch
5# dumbbells side to side center punch
repeat boxing with no weight and then 4# dumbbells
kettle bell swings 15#, 20# 30#, ending with 15# American swing
bench- triceps extensions with leg extension 12.5#, , 20#, then 30# without leg extensions
lateral raise 12.5# 2 sets,
alternating arm upright row 20# kettle bell 2 sets
boxing hooks then speed hooks
upper cuts then speed upper cuts
hooks then upper cuts with 5# dumbbells
single leg deadlifts (scales) 15# kettle bell, 20# kettle bell, 30# kettle bell
abs on the bench, 15# kettle bell get ups 2 sets
sit ups on step 15# kettle bell 2 sets

Carolyn, I am much better today. I was cautious with the upper body work though. It didn't seem to bother though. I can still feel it a bit. I prefer hemp seeds over chia too. they taste good on salads and sprinkled in yogurt etc. They have more of a nutty taste. I have seen where they put chia seeds in over night oats. I have never tried it though. I don't know how many times I thought I pushed the button for one premix and ended up into a different one before I realized what I had done.

Valerie, I bet if you look online you could find plenty of ideas for chia seeds. I search out Pinterest all of the time for recipes. I looked at booties for Gertie once, but I had thought about them because she chews her claws and makes them so jagged. They even have nail covers that you can stick on your dog, but I figured she would eat them off. Anyway, after searching out ones that could be washed and remembering the urine thing, I decided I was better off letting her chew her claws and I will file them. I doubt she would leave them on anyway. I made a tail cover for my great Dane once because she was always wacking her tail on something and making it bleed. She had a lot of issues. She would not leave that thing on and her tail would bleed and splatter the walls. It was such an issue. The same with Mudd and trying to keep wraps on her dew claw that she tore. Even with a cone on she was able to get it off. I finally took her to the vet and they cauterized it. Maybe the dogs have to get used to that stuff from the time they are puppies. Hemp seed has quite a bit of fat in it. Not any more than nuts though.

Lori, I would like to have a new mattress. Funny thing is I liked the cheaper one we got for our guest room at our other house than the more expensive one that we have had for years. I bought memory foam for it and recently had my husband flip it over. He likes it, but I wake up multiple times having to turn to get comfortable and shake out numb hands. I had not thought of doing steel cut oats in the instant pot. I bet it cooks up much more quickly. Is the texture good? I always preferred the steel cut or extra thick Bobs Red Mill gluten free old fashioned. I guess grocery prices are like houses and everything else in different areas. I think for the most part things are pretty reasonable here. I went to Sprouts today and wanted more kale and they only had lacinto kale and some wilty red leaf. I didn't buy any. I will wait. Lacinto was disappointing the one time I purchased it and I swear I nearly choked on it because it had so many of those veiny parts to it.

Deb, are you finally getting some relief with all of the PT? I never had a desire to go for a walk when it is freezing out. Even now, if I know the mail is junk ( I get email notifications with pictures of my mail before it is delivered) I leave it in the mail box rather than walking across the street. Although sometimes the brisk cold air really revives me when I feel tired and lethargic during the day. I go out with Gertie in the yard once a day to clean up etc.. I hadn't thought of salted areas on the pavement.

Good evening ladies,

This morning we did a SB Bounce that really works the quads hard and then a San Fran circuit bounce. No bounce at lunch. Was too busy. :(

Deb...he has been complaining about the mattress for a few months now. We think it is about 14 years old. Can’t remember exactly when we bought it. You spend so much of your life in your bed so we needed an upgrade. I do not walk GiGi in the cold. All the walking I did with Chester and then none in the winter with GiGi. She goes to daycare twice a week and we play ball on days she does not go. Hoping she is happy with this. :) How often are you going to PT?

Valerie...that is one of the problems with my husband...I am always so warm and he is always so cold! Night time is a challenge. I usually prepare a hot water bottle for him..you know the kind we used years ago when you needed heat for aches or pains. Yup, he goes to bed with one!! It actually, is amazing! He gets his heat and I can have the house heat turned low with the ceiling fan on high!! Win Win!! My friend visited relatives in Ireland and this is what their family does in the winter months. She mentioned it on FB and I was all over it for my husband. I do not soak my chia seeds. I just throw them in the blender.

Carolyn...steel cut oats are amazing! Never had them before until my instant pot. I buy the Flahavan’s Brand from Amazon. They are imported from Ireland. I love them and so easy in the instant pot. I have been making them every morning with a mixture of water and almond milk. I also add cinnamon. Delicious!! I think it was Kick Max that I never clicked with. Need to watch it again.

Diane Sue...great workouts!!! Great the pain seemed to have subsided. Awesome. I am glad we bought a new mattress and will love it. The price is what I did not like. 14 years ago my brother sold furniture and was able to get our mattress at cost. Had no idea they were as expensive as they are!!!!! You should try the oats. You will love them. Tons of recipes on Youtube. I do 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup almond milk. Add cinnamon, set for 10mins then walk away. When done, I let sit on low until I can get to it. Usually, about 15 to 20 mins. Easy to do in the morning while I am getting ready. Set and forget about it! I then put in a glass pyrex bowl with cover and bring to work. Yes prices are all relative!

Hi to Judy!!!!!!

Good morning,

2 classes yesterday, driving in between...makes for a long but fun day.

Valerie, I never tried booties on a dog, but think that they have a purpose sometimes. When we are in the parking lot of our dog club, in winter, I think they put some type of ice melt on it that gets in Kylee's pads...once she started really crying, I thought she had cut her foot on something. Rock salt can be very painful stuck between their pads. I have not put any boots etc on her. Hopefully that won't happen again. I think I was trying to do those "overnight oats" when I used the chia seeds. Either that or some yogurt mix. Whatever it was, it was to thicken it. There are tons of things on Pinterest. Way too many mattress selections. My cousin bought a gel topper and said it is like having a new mattress. My concern would be the sheets...we already buy the largest fitted sheet, so adding 3 inches would make it impossible to put the fitted sheet on.

Carolyn, sounds like accidently selecting the shorter premix was just what you needed. :).

Diane Sue, glad you are feeling better. I don't remember what happened with the chia seeds and overnight oats, but it was not edible. The PT seemed to be working well, but this week my leg has been hurting again. I am really tired of all this. I didn;t do the PT exercises yesterday. Sometimes I think they aggravate the situation. I never heard of getting pictures of your mail in an email. Who takes the pictures and sends the email?

Lori, I bet our mattress is at least as old as yours. I could look it up, I have all the paperwork on it, but that would mean sifting through a ton of stuff...LOL... Yes, it seems like each pair of dogs we have as we get older get less and less of activity in the winter. We walked our pair before Kylee & Keegan every morning without fail, regardless of the weather. They were the ones that got the nice suede Sherpa lined coats. Going to PT every other week. Don't they have electric blankets with 2 controls, one for each side? If they don't they should! :).

Hi to Judy,

Take care

Today’s workout was Muscle Endurance, express premix, for 53 minutes and 234 calories burned. My average heart rate was 113 and maximum heart rate was 170.

Lori, I am not familiar with that brand of oats, but it sounds good. I looked it up on Amazon and I might give it a try. Kick Max is my least favorite of Cathe’s kickboxing workouts, but I don’t mind doing it occasionally.

Valerie, I feel the same about chia pudding. I like it best with chopped apples. I mix 1/4 cup chopped apple, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, 2/3 cup almond milk, 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon and vanilla and refrigerate overnight. I add a teaspoon of maple syrup or honey before eating. You can experiment with different fruit combinations and I have seen cacao or cocoa powder added to the basic pudding.

Hello to Deb, Diane Sue, and Judy.

Well Lori, no choice but to trade husband in on a new model!! ;);) I am by far the warmer sleeper of the two of us. mostly, blankets can be adjusted I start out OK early, but heat up as the night goes on. pillow top mattresses hold body heat, and the whole mattress surface gets warm. If I can't find a cool spot, its game OVER. we can't have heat on at night. I want very cool as does DH. furnace wakes me up every time it cycles on and off. I have an awful time in motels because you can't ever get the room temp to a decent level even with windows open. I want 60 degrees or less.
I'm usually the one who migrates somewhere else. the changing proportions of mattress/box springs has caused us plenty of headaches, as have the mattress toppers. the fitted sheets we bought for beds at the montana house are too bi for the mattresses. workable but you can't get them snug at all.

Carolyn, thanks I will give that combo a try. Not a smoothie fan, so will work at pudding. will look at Pinterest. already looked at EW, saw a recipe with coca that I will try.

we tried to xc ski this morning, and went for a little while but it was too sloppy/ wet/ mashed potato snow to be worth it. we could not drive as high as we thought, so it was a very short trip. will do something else later today.

Did rock em sock em. the full workout minus the snow angels. I can do jacks but not snow angels. even some jump kicks, I'm working on those.

I forgot to say that we were awakened by an earthquake this morning! It occurred in Tennessee and was felt here. Rather startling and very unexpected at 4:15 a.m. It was only 4.4, but still.... Our bed was shaking and doors rattling.

Today I did Les Mills Body Step #109 full workout. I kind of think it is better to get familiar with the workout because because they change step height and angles. This workout changed the height several times. THis was 56 minutes, heart rate average 131, max 172, 371 calories, met 6.0, 4,308 steps. I then did Coffey Fit Raw Floor Work # 2 since I still had not done this one. Yep, Debbie, I heard a toilet flush LOL This was 41 minutes, met 3.0, 136 calories, heart rate 99 average, 134 max, 202 steps. Kelly says you can add light ankle weights for those hip exercises, but I did not use any this time. I had light weight work in the body step (5# dbs) and want to do a heavier weight work either tomorrow or Friday so did not want to push it. Total time was 97 minutes, 507 calories, 4,510 steps. I need to type up the moves. I will post them. I am slow getting back on the computer today. My grandson came over and hung out for awhile before he went to his church for a get together. I think his girlfriend was meeting him there. He wanted help wrapping her Christmas presents :) we had a nice visit and played around on the piano. He loves playing music.

Lori, when I was living in England as a child, we went to bed with hot water bottles, extra quilts and later had electric blankets. Wonder we didn't electrocute ourselves. I guess the hot water bottles never leaked. My husband and I have talked about getting an electric blanket. Our room is the coldest room in the house. My husband goes to bed first and turns on the master bedroom bath heat fans and I flip them off when I go to bed. That adds a bit of heat. Our mattress is so old, I think we purchased it when my children were all still living at home. Since my oldest grandchild is now 21 I am guessing it is older than that. Those oats sound so easy. I will have to get some next time I go to the store.

Deb, I guess Ike is okay with riding to class now? USPS emails a picture of my mail that will be delivered that day. It is called Informed Delivery. I went to their website and looked it up. We have a friend that was telling me about them doing it. The only thing is, today I found it can cause some anxiety. I have a picture of 3 pieces of mail, two junk and one the electric bill. The electric bill was not there. I hope they didn't deliver it somewhere else. You can report missing mail. I pay online anyway. Yesterday when I went out to the mailbox there was a piece of mail for one of our neighbors lying in the middle of the street. It looked like a Christmas card. I took it to their house and no one was home so I stuck it inside their storm door. I don't know if they dropped it or the mail carrier. It was kind of windy yesterday. I find that sometimes, even stretching and rolling can set off inflammation if an area is already irritated.

Carolyn, it is not fun getting woke up by an earthquake. We have not had one for awhile. You do not get them often there do you? I have heard Aldis sells a lot of International food brands. If you have one they might have those oats. I think Homeland has quite a few International foods. I don't think I have seen that one at Walmart though. They don't even carry organic coconut milk which is the only kind I will buy. I don't kind Kick Max till it turns into all of the higher intensity impact stuff. I would prefer to skip that part. It was always a dread factor for me.

Valerie, I would never be able to sleep at 60 degrees without a lot of blankets. I keep our house at 68 at night and I use 3 blankets. As far as sheets, I hate when they are not smooth and tight. It is hard to find good fitting sheets. The last ones I got have an elastic band across the back of them to keep them from creeping up.

I can't sleep in that kind of heat, and the furnace going on and off wakes me up every cycle. never learned to ignore it. we go with 62 degrees during the day and off at night. I am fine with 50 at night. when we camp, it's colder, I am fine and sleep well. I always have trouble with heat, especially at night. hotels are impossible. I do NOT do tropical vacations! I use a cotton blanket and a bedspread, nothing extreme. I heat up over night .
Earthquakes are so scary. we had one 6. something, we REALLY felt it about 10 or so years ago. we were off xc skiing, and even outside it bounced us all over like a couple of marbles. did not cause much damage but we are at risk of a really big one here, like in the 9 range. that would be a very serious issue. we hope it never happens. getting insurance for it is ridiculous in cost and mostly not even possible. we've had other smaller ones since this is an active seismic zone but most we did not notice.

Good morning,

PT yesterday. Same exercises, etc etc

Did everyone see the first clip of one of the new DVD? It's the cardio one. It seemed more like a beginner to intermediate workout to me...but looks like fun. I am glad it is low impact.

Carolyn, wow, an earthquake! That had to be a scary way to wake up! We have had some small ones here....the only one I remember was when we were sitting at the table and a wine class kind of danced across it in front of us. Muscle Endurance is such a great workout....one of my favorite total body Cathe workouts. I still have the VHS copy, as well at the DVD.

Diane Sue, Yes, IKE is good in the car now. He is in a crate, and he plays with toys he only gets in the car. After class, he falls asleep. :) I can't believe that they actually take out someone's mail, and a person takes the time to take a picture of it and email it to someone? You mentioned paying for something online....do you pay for this picture service?

Valerie, I hear you on the hotel and sleeping issues. I don't mind it it in a hotel, as long as it is central heat/AC. I hate those hotels with the old fashioned heating/cooling unit that is by a window, and you control it yourself? The rattle trap noise drives me crazy. I thought at one time that only cheap motels had those, but I have been in some nice hotels that still have those thing...

Hi to Lori, & Judy,

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Pedal Power and today I did Amy Bento Slo Mo Strength-Legs, Arms and Abs.

Deb-I have done most of Cathe's Live Spin workouts. I haven't renewed the Live subscription yet either. I agree about the clip from the cardio workout. It looks like fun. You don't have to pay for Informed Delivery. Here's the link to see if it's available in your zip code:

https://informeddelivery.usps.com/box/pages/intro/start.action

Lori-We need to shop for a new mattress and bedroom set. We'll probably start looking early next year.
I love steel cut oats too. I'll have to order the brand you mentioned.

Carolyn-That must have been scary, getting woken up by an earthquake. Nice workouts this week! I love Muscle Endurance. That's one of my favorites. When I first started doing Cathe's workouts and only had a few DVDs I did that one a lot.

Valerie-I keep the heat at 68 at night. I would set it lower but Chris wouldn't be very happy with me. I have a hard time sleeping in hotels too.

Diane Sue-I signed up for Informed Delivery a few weeks ago. Last week we didn't get any of the mail for one of the days email's that they sent. I filed a missing mail report. Another email showed a photo of our neighbor's mail in with ours but the mail carrier caught it and delivered it to the right box.

Have a great day!

Judy

Ive never heard of informed delivery either. thanks judy, i'll take a look. I doubt it since we are rural, out in the county.
all the talk about Muscle endurance! I have it but not done in ages. I have so many discs I haven't used, I feel a little silly ordering more new ones..... but I did anyway. I tend to do one workout until I get tired of it, and then move on. old favorites gathering dust. I have all 4 spin workouts. 2 don't have the countdown timer. I need that. I like Pedal power the best. I get tired of the music, not the actual workouts. like Ramped upper body.....noted on the worksheet to turn off the music before starting it. I haven't figured out how to do part of the workout, go back to change to vocals only, then continue from where I was. I have to go to chapters and click up one at a time to get back. this is an old player, not sure if that's even possible. plus the older disks might not work the same as new ones.

we are not suffering, wearing hats /mittens in the house. we have a big house, very expensive & wasteful to heat it all, so we tend to keep the furnace set very low, warm the areas we spend time in. we bought it because we needed a place to live on short notice. there was not much available at the time, so this was the best choice. we have a wood stove, and use small space heaters in our offices. I still like it cooler than most people would, especially for sleeping and working out. most hotels rooms have no cross ventilation so opening the windows, if they open at all, doesn't help. and even if you turn off room heat, the room doesn't cool much. and yes Deb, those window things rattle and clank. Hotels always have mattress protectors under the sheets. I usually remove it and hide it because those are REALLY hot. I traveled a lot for work and had to find ways to make it work.

Surprisingly, we are eligible for informed delivery. I will run it by DH to see if he agrees.

DH is doing the yoga relax, aiming for 2-3x a week. he likes it and has seen improvements in some moves already. thank you all for the recommendation.

This morning I started with Les Mills on Demand Body Attack Express #101, 31 minutes, heart rate average 141, 164 max, 2,827 steps, 205 calories, met 6.0. I followed this with Les Mills Remix Combat and Yoga #1 doing the combat monitoring and the yoga separate. This was from Combat # 198, and Body Ballance Body Flow 69. Combat was 31 minutes, heart rate average 142, max 177, met 6.1, 209 calories, 2,762 steps. The yoga segment was 15 minutes, met 2.0, 34 calories, 50 steps. Total time was 77 minutes, 448 calories, 5,639 steps. There were so many push ups in this Body Attack. The last segment was so many push ups and just when you think you should be done they go for 32 more. I got up and did jacks and jogging! I will come back to read your posts in a little while.

Today I did Cardio Core Circuit, 4 of 5 circuits, for 43 minutes and 268 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 153. Of course I do mostly low impact movements instead of a lot of jumping. Earthquakes are very rare here, but they have happened before. They have been few and far between and never one this strong.

Deb, I saw the clip for Cardio Party and I am looking forward to it. I’m not sure that I would call it beginner level, but it does look like fun. I love the length of the workouts. They can stand alone or be combined with something else like the extended stretch. So many premix options!

Judy, nice job with Pedal Power and Slo Mo Strength. Informed Delivery is available to us, but we don’t use it.

Valerie, that’s great that your husband is doing Yoga Relax. I like my bedroom cool for sleeping, but I want the weight of a blanket or comforter on my legs and feet. Our nighttime temperature is 65.

Diane Sue, it’s good that you are still using the Les Mills streaming. You seem to be getting your money’s worth from it.

Hello to Lori.

Valerie, my daughter had mentioned getting earthquake insurance we all of this started from the fracking. I don't know if she did or not. Mostly because their house is built into the side of a hill and the base part is pretty old. They have done a lot of restoration. Then there is the pool built up above the lower part of the house. Just kind of worrisome. It has been awhile since I have felt anything or heard anything. I think the last time I was in bed and I thought my husband was shaking or something and woke up and realized he was not moving. The worst was when one rattled things off of shelves and a picture glass got cracked when things hit the floor upstairs. I think that we get used to the temps we are living with. We have friends from Wisconsin, and they keep their house so cold in the winter. I always want to leave a jacket on when we go visit. Most of the time I keep our house in the upper 60's though and I wear a sweater or just grab a hooded zip up fleece or sweat shirt jacket that I can slip on if I get cold or take off if I get too warm. When the heater cuts in I start sweating and when it cuts off I am grabbing for the jacket. I keep the furnace upstairs lower since I am up their for working out and downstairs most of the time. We light the gas fireplace once in awhile for extra warmth.

Deb, I think that the post office probably runs all mail through a machine that scans it and sorts it. I do not think there is an individual that just takes pictures of mail. Much like when we take our books to the library to drop them off, they go up a belt (like airport luggage) and are scanned and drop off into the proper bins. The library here has a screen where the grandchildren get a kick out of putting the books in the slot and watching them go to their spot. Things are so automated and digitally done anymore. I just meant that I pay my electric bill online, so even if I did not receive it I would still pay it and receive email from the electric company on the bill, so it is not a huge worry. I went back and read on the post office email and it says if a piece of mail does not show up in my box to wait 4 days to report it missing as it is likely to come later. Today it is pouring rain and I have junk mail out there so am not in a huge hurry to run out to the mailbox. The good thing is that it has been really windy and heavier rain and no leaks :) :) I have not looked at the video clip yet, but have heard about it. I think from the sounds of it I would like it. I am sure I will get them when I can.

Judy, it is handy knowing what is in the mail. When I am watching for my husbands check so I can take it to the bank, it is nice knowing ahead of time that it is on the way. Also it is nice to know there is nothing and I don't need to waste my time going out to the mail box. I had someone else get my mail and bring it a couple of weeks ago. I was all sweaty and Gertie kept barking. I looked through the peek hole and did not recognize her and did not answer the door. She stuck it inside the storm door. I think she is a new neighbor that rented a town home across the street. I forget about the premix on Slo Mo. That would be a good one for me when I am trying to get weights in and skip chest and shoulders. I have had so many push ups with the workouts I have been doing lately! More than I want to do.

Carolyn, I am just getting as much out of my free 30 day trial of Les Mills on Demand that they had a limited time offer for. I don't know if I want to spend 12.99 a month for it along with Kelly Coffey at 6.99 who is a lot easier on the joints. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot offered on Les Mills and I like it, but I might just want to spend the funds on Cathe's new workouts. I am thinking about it. Les Mills does offer modifiers on the workouts.

I had not done one of the Les Mills Body Attack workouts. These are floor cardio and show some modifiers as there is a lot of jacks, running forward and back, split lunge jumps, burpees, pushups, side to side moves etc.. No fancy stuff really. At least not in what I did today. They have little slowed down spots to catch your breath once in awhile. The last floor one I did was the Les Mills Cardio and these were geared toward the Grit workouts which are even tougher. They just did the moves with people moving at their own pace and there was a lot of plyo so I have only done one of those. I think I prefer the step and the combat. I have not tried one of the dance ones as that has not been something I am very good at. I will be tripping all over myself.

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday was a couple of BBS upper targets then we did a Sanfran 40min circuit bounce. Today was a lower body band workout that targeted the glutes and outer/inner thighs. We then did SanFran Boxing Bounce that was fun!

Deb...that is what we did. We bought a 3 inch memory foam and I love it! My husband not so much. He manages to make a “canoe” on his side. I turn the mattress regularly but the canoe comes back. The mattress is just too soft for him. I like the clip of the cardio party. Looks like a workout that will be great when you do not feel like a crazy sweaty workout. They looked like they were having fun. Great Ike is good in the car!!! Awesome!!!

Carolyn....wow the earthquake! That would scare me. The oats I ended up buying were based on the reviews and they are delicious. I have not tried other brands so I have nothing to compare. I like that they are from Ireland. My grandfather would be so happy! Great job on Cardio Core...I think this is one Cathe’s hardest workout.

Diane sue...We signed up for the same service from the PO. We like knowing what is coming. There has only been 1 time that I did not receive what was emailed to me, but I did receive it the next day. You certainly have been getting the most out of the trial. Good for you. 32 MORE pushups!! I would be doing jumping jacks too!!!

Valerie...funny I tell my husband it would be cheaper to trade him in!! Lol! He cracks up. I need to be in an energetic mood for the snow angels. I would love the keep the house cool. During the day we keep at 65. When we come home it goes to 68. Sleeping, back to 65. I would go lower to sleep, but my husband could not take it. He likes the warmth.

Judy...the slo mo workout just sounds so good. I will see if I can find a clip. Wow that is not good with your mail. So far it has worked great for us. I have been using it for a while now. Perhaps since it first came out. I like they even list amazon packages that come thru the PO.

Have a great night all!!

I did 25 running on the treadmill, and about 10 on part of the ab workout from S&S. I am skipping the one move I can't do, the side plank toe tap thing. I can't block my feet like that, and don't want to lean on one shoulder to that degree. runs are not long but a mile or two. I got away from impact and I need to lightly pound my knees a little bit to toughen them up. gradually build up. I feel good while I'm doing it. its like the jacks I'm slowly adding back into the mix. probably will not get to snow angels but jacks I should be OK with.

Good afternoon,

I had to be out of the house by 6:30 this morning to babysit. Just got back about an hour ago.

Judy, thanks for the link. I would never think to look at my email to see what mail I got. I guess if you are expecting something important, you could check from work by looking at the email. Also, just what you described in your post was pretty helpful too.

Valerie, with the issues you have had with your mailbox, that informed delivery system may be something you could use. What I like about the heating we have, is that it has 2 zones, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. We can keep the floor we are on at 68, and the upstairs can be lower during the day, when we are hardly up there.

Carolyn, I also like the idea that the new workouts can be made longer, but the actual workout is a shorter one. I like to do the whole workout, but if they are creeping up to an hour, I found myself always turning to the Time Saver Premixes, which made me almost feel like I was cheating.

Diane Sue, Yay for no leaks! :) do what you do in the winter, always have a hooded fleece on, rather than raise the thermostat. It also helps with the trips outside with the puppy. :). I don't have to keep taking a jacket off and on. Wow, your library is way more advanced than ours. We have a drop box, both outside and inside that the book just drops into a big wooden container, or if outside, a slide thing. The library people have to log them all into the system. They also have to manually re-shelf the returned books.

Lori, I like your "canoe" description. We have that in the center of our bed. I don't know what, if any, is the difference between a memory foam or a Gel topper....? I forgot what snow angels were....actually thought you were referring to what we used to do outside in the snow when we were kids. LOL...

Ike has another UTI. Finally getting a full culture done so they can figure out what antibiotic to use...( hello???). I am not pleased.

Any fun plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb-I'm sorry that Ike has another UTI :( This must be getting very frustrating. It sounds like they should have done a full culture sooner so they could have treated it properly the first time. I don't blame you for being unhappy with them.

Deb sorry to hear Ike has got UTI again. antibiotics don't work as well as they used to. bacteria are developing resistance due to such widespread misuse of them. now it takes multiple drugs or longer treatment courses to clear infections completely. if the antibiotics kill "most" of the bacteria, but a few hardy organisms remain, they start multiplying as soon as the drug is stopped and you get a repeat infection. hope the third time is the charm. is it possible he has a structural issue that is causing this problem?

DH didn't like the idea of email from the PO. I think I will put it on my phone anyway. yesterday we got a late delivery from either the PO or UPS. I had already closed our gate. they left it sitting on the road. "mailbox mail" was here, but if I'd known something else was coming I would have left it open. DH drives me crazy with his phone weirdness. he barely even turns his phone on but fusses constantly about what is on mine and how I am using it. no idea why we spent $650 for it. he won't give anyone the number.

I've removed foam toppers from beds before. yep, I'm a bad houseguest! heat off, windows open, and now tearing the bed apart!. I hate the sensation of memory foam, where you sink into the mattress surface and leaving a "canoe". I alwasys thought if you are leaving an indent in the mattress, its time for a new one.
we expect to have wind this afternoon, so good chance of a power out unless the storm doesn't materialize.

Deb, snow angels are the vertical jumps with legs out sideways and back in. those are too much impact. I do regular jacks or less jumpy steps. never did those. too much risk for a bad landing.

Today I did ICE Chiseled Upper Body for 47 minutes and 235 calories burned. Average heart rate was 117 and maximum heart rate was 154.

Deb, sorry that Ike still has an infection. Hopefully they can treat it completely this time. There was a time when I thought that I had to do a workout from start to finish exactly like the trainer, but my thoughts have changed over the years. I feel like my workout is individual to me and should match my abilities. I like to push myself, but I also want to enjoy the workout.

Valerie, I try to keep some high impact moves in my workouts too. I modify some but not all high impact movements.

Hello to Lori, Judy, and Diane Sue. Have a nice day everyone.
