Good morning,

No workout yesterday, and I had thought there was no agility class but I was mistaken! The trainer called me afterwards to see if I was ok...she was worried that I missed class. I told her I thought there was no class, I had looked at the schedule and had the dates in my head wrong....duh....

Judy, good that you got the biopsies either way. Hopefully the results are negative and you don't have to have them removed, although how do you remember in the future which ones were tested or not? I hope you didn't get that snow that you were supposed to get. That's great that you are able to avoid eating wheat...although I want to get some answers to this problem, having to completely avoid wheat would be tough for me. I would do it though. That spreadsheet is a good idea. There are a lot of workouts I don't do much at all, but something makes me keep them.

Valerie, we have had one issue with the Garmin when we went to a dog show in Ohio....there was a detour due to construction and we ended up going 40 extra miles on the trip home...but we weren't sure if it was the Garmin or not...if we didn't have it, we might still be trying to get home...LOL....The DR office confirmed, they had not tested for Celiac....Have not done Cardio Supersets in a while, maybe have to go back to some of these workouts....so many and so little time!

Carolyn, glad you are doing well, and how nice that your club was recognized by that group!

Diane Sue, good job on the older workouts! I may look at the lower Push/Pull premixes this week for a lower body day.

A workout, then a trip to Target to get some gift cards...all my nephews (6) get gift cards, they love shopping on their own and its so much easier for me. :).

Take care,

I doubt there will be a workout today. I have my grandchildrenhere. I normally would have done one since I will have to take a break post surgery. I would like to record instructions so I can remember them all. I suppose that is not happening though.

Carolyn, that is great that your breast cancer recovery has gone so well. My daughter told me that they are catching it sooner and many that come through it and recover.

Lori, I hope that you continue to feel better. I avoid cold meds too for the same reason. I do not operate well on them. I find they don't hep recover much, but once in awhile I feel despairate for some rest, take half a dose and wish I hadnt. I saw that SB video in my email. Is it a link for the whole 22 minutes? I would like to try it.

Valerie I revisited Cardio Supersets recently. It is a good metabolic workout.

Carolyn, also hoping your recovery continues without incident. I am due for a mamm next month. I learned the hard way last year about getting one in December. I needed a f/up and it was an overly long wait with the holidays. This year I will just schedule in January to avoid that. Lori hope you are feeling better.

I am so completely miserable with a head cold that I go to great lengths to avoid exposure. I get a lot of help from cold meds, which I don't hesitate to take. antihistamines/decongestants make me feel crummy, but not as crummy as I feel without them. cold meds let me breathe a little bit and get some sleep. it always concentrates in my nose and sinuses. UGH. avoidance is my primary plan. I'm feeling optimistic that I dodged the bullet from jury room exposure last week. We used to get more colds when DH was exposed at work and brought the virus home. he's had better luck since retirement.

not sure what to do today. had planned on a fast walk in a park but it's wet and cold. good forecast for the week so probably another indoor workout today. not my favorite time of year. last year we were able to ride quite a bit but this year is so far colder and wetter. Not going mt biking in snow and slush.

Deb, cardio supersets is a good one. took me 40 min yesterday, faster and more smoothly than the first time. For me, repeating the same workout several times in a short period is working out well. speeds up the process, makes it more challenging. when I was switching to a different workout every time, I'm slower and way less efficient. maybe I'm a slow learner. I don't remember well from workout to workout. if I have to stop the disk and back up or change weights, it takes longer and is less intense. I want to work back to Cathe's higher level workouts. as I recall, cardio supersets, and slide and glide were the easiest from LIS.
a trip to Target on a sunday in December is brave of you.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I was very fortunate to have been diagnosed early. No family history of breast cancer and no symptoms or problems. I went in for my routine exam but I had missed the year before. I can't stress enough the importance of getting your mammograms.

Not planning a workout today. Take care.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did KCM's Meltdown workout...the total body one. Could not get my heart rate over 128...? Not sure what's up with that. I like the workout though...and actually upped the weights...we got the snow yesterday and overnight...John will have to get the snow blower out this morning, the first time this year. :)

Diane Sue, I can agree with wanting to record instructions...sometimes it's hard to remember it all, especially when you have just come out of surgery. When I got the scope done, I had John sit there with a pad and write down everything the DR said when I was done...I knew I probably would not remember most of it.

Valerie, you were lucky to miss that bullet with the colds and sniffles going on all around you at jury duty! It must mean your resistance is built up well.

A workout, then we'll see...I don't want to go to far with the snow the way it is...class tonight...

Take care,

Deb the scary part is you think and act like you are tracking just fine. the next day you remember nothing from after the procedure. important to have someone along who can take notes. DH is so funny after getting scoped. He sounds like he's a totally with it. Goes into "doctor mode" but ends up remembering nothing.. it's always funny to feed back to him things he said, who came into the room etc and he is always surprised. it's like a part of your brain for forming new memories is affected by the anesthetic, and it doesn't happen.

did x train bi's and tri's and core 1 yesterday

I am fastidious about washing my hands /sanitizing after touching "public surfaces" and also not touching my face eyes nose unless my hands are washed . Most viruses get transmitted that way rather than just being airborne. It's a learned behavior because most of us touch our faces often without realizing it. I have cut my colds down to almost none by following those steps plus getting a flu shot
I've even avoided colds when DH has had one by following these steps. It's not 100 per cent effective but pretty close. It's not easy to do at first because most of us subconsciously touch our faces a lot. . easy to grab a pen at a check out to sign, and then rub your nose or eyes, and that's all a virus needs to establish itself.

Yes it's 2 am. I can't sleep wish there was a simple technique for that

I can't avoid getting up to pee around midnight plus or minus and hour. not possible. and then I can't get back to sleep. I need to wake up enough so I don't fall on my face getting to the bathroom. that is enough to get my brain going and then I am up for a while. I did get back to sleep though. so "technique" is nonexistent.

Today I did RWH Low Impact HiiT One and Ab Circuits Pilates Based Abs. I really feel the ab workout. Pilates seems to get deeper into my ab muscles. I signed up for Cathe Live again with the discount coupon and I plan to substitute some Live workouts for others in my planned rotation. I also signed up for Chris Freytag's premium service for $8.00 for the year! I have been a part of her community for a while but had no plans to upgrade until I got the email offer that I couldn't refuse. It provides access to her workout library plus workouts from some other people. This will help when I want something less intense than a Cathe workout.

Valerie, l can't imagine waking up at that time of night and not being able to go back to sleep. I wish I had a suggestion, but I'm sure you've already tried anything that comes to mind. My husband has frequent problems with insomnia, but he is getting better at trying different things before going to bed.

Hello to everyone.

Today I did 4 Day Split Kickbox and lower body weights. Total time 67 minutes, calories burned 438. I had to make adjustments because I stopped after kickbox and restarted with weights. That is because the Fit Bit and Map My Fitness have different selections for weights and kickbox workouts. I find it makes a difference in how it reads the calorie burn. I had to stop and restart a lot because I used to do much heavier and trying to be careful. I would have to keep adjusting. Plus I started with the barbell. I really did not find a better way of doing the front squats. Maybe I should have just held one dumbbell. I find the heavier squats are more comfortable with the bar on my shoulders than two dumbbells at the sides that seem to pull on my shoulders. I felt bit weak here. I used to do those low plane lunges with 25's. I struggled with 20's today.
I really need to go back and fit in some extra stretching. I was hurrying to try to get out to the store and come back to do some tasks at home. I need to bathe Gertie before surgery as the surgery day is when she gets her Frontline and Heartgard. I want things done so I can relax for a few days. Plus no lifting stuff. My allergies are acting up. I have that crazy itching throat and am coughing like crazy. It started when we began using the furnace. I went out and got new filters and we changed them, and changed the ones in my air purifier. I did not get allergen filters for the furnace. I read that you should not use air filters to clean your air. They are for the purpose of protecting the air unit. The allergen ones make it work harder and is denser to trap smaller particles. It can mess up the blower. Also if you do use allergen ones you should have a tech come out and crank up the blower more. I hope the coughing is not a problem with the surgery. I can see me popping something out of place while near strangling coughing.

Deb, fortunately this doctor goes over a lot before the surgery. My husband will be there so that will help. Although he tends to forget what the said when he goes to the doctor for something. 128 is still considered aerobic. I would think you are getting something out of the workout but not like we are used to with Cathe's metabolic workouts.

Valerie, I need to be better about using the hand sanitizer I carry around with me. I keep hand sanitizer by the tissue boxes in the house and in my purse and workout space. I thought after reading your post how lax I was today though. Here I am fighting allergies and there are people all over Walmart Market coughing. Then, since I had not eaten today and it was after 1 I bought some dark chocolate and ate it in the car. I did not use hand sanitizer. Not a good thing!! Oddly I had a woman come up to me when I was waiting in line, she had one bottle of spice in her cart, and asked if I could spare a few dollars?? I just told her I was sorry and couldn't. It just seemed odd. Usually I get approached outside the store for money and cigarettes. I don't smoke so that would never happen anyway. I hate when they do that. I wondered why she was buying a bottle of spice if she needed money. What made me look up was she had a terrible sounding cough.
I usually have to run to the bathroom somewhere within 2 hours of going to bed. When we first moved in this house I would get out of bed and run upstairs to what is my bathroom. It was so dumb since all I had to do was use the bathroom adjacent to the master bedroom . I quit that one. I wide awake by the time I hit the upper floor and other end of the house. It takes awhile to go back to sleep. Sometimes it is near time to get up before I fall back to sleep. My Fit Bit generally gives me around 3 hours of actual sleep at night with restless periods and getting out of bed wakefulness. Add the coughing and there is a lot of it.

Carolyn, I always feel the abs working well in the pilates based abs. It sounds like you got some nice streaming deals that I am sure you will enjoy.

Good evening ladies,

Feeling better today finally. I never got out of my pjs yesterday. I did brush my teeth though. This morning I did both of SB Barre Amped Bounce workouts and ended with KCM's barre section from her body design dvd. Was about 38 minutes start to finish. I did use ankle weights and 3lbs hand weights. I bounced a little harder/faster than SB but not as extreme as the power jumps. 246 calories and avg HR was 121. I was happy with that. Felt good. I will still take it easy for the next couple of days until I am 100%. I am still stuffed up. My husband gets mad at me when I workout when I am sick and I tell him I always keep it light but sometimes I just need to do a little something.

Deb...that is nice you buy Gift Cards for your nephews. You're a good Aunt. :). I have not done the Meltdown dvd yet. Sounds like it may be good for me to try out now since I do not want crazy hard! I have done that before...get dates wrong and completely miss something.

Diane Sue...I would think if you are not a member you would not be able to see the workout. It is 22 minutes and harder than I anticipated. As I mentioned I do bounce harder and faster than she does but the barre section really got me. I do not have the bar attachment and you need it to do this workout. But I was able to put the rebounder under my wall mounted Barre and that worked perfectly. It's a little lower that I would like but works fine and I can live with it. I think one dumbell may have been better. Do you have one heavy enough? I go up to 40 lbs. I have never needed heavier. When is your surgery?

Valerie...I have been really good about bathroom time in the evening. For a while I was waking up everynight needing to go but for the past few months I have not had too. Subconsciously, I think GiGi may have a lot to do with it. If I get up, she wakes up and is all excited. So I'd rather not have that! I have been using a lot of hand sanitizer lately.

Carolyn, I usually have my mamogram in December and I make them a year in advanced. I do not remember if I made an appointment for this year. I will be sure to call tomorrow to check. Thank you. Again, so glad you are doing well. My close girlfriend just went thru it and is doing great also. Very happy.

Judy...how much snow did you end up with? We got about 4-5 inches. Not much but enough to make us miserable. I just reread you post and that was a great combinations of workout. I need to look up Power Hour. That one is a blast from the past!

Have a great evening all!

Lori, that sounds like a nice mix of lower intensity workouts. That is nice that you are feeling up to doing something. I am the same way and my husband gives me a hard time. I find that I often helps a bit as long as it is not really intense. I think that I can try that 21 minute rebounder workout. It says try for free on it. I should check it out in the morning. I have a bar for my rebounder so that is cool. I may not be bouncing for awhile. I have some heavy duty compression sports bras I purchased last time. Hopefully they are still good for holding things in place when I start back to workouts. I will be limited for awhile. I have the surgery on Wednesday morning. I will be glad when it is done. I am not looking forward to Wednesday though. I hate anesthesia. I always have to ask for something because I know I will be sick to the stomach. Getting out of the recovery room and home is always one of the tougher parts. When I had my knee surgery I sweat when I got home I nearly choked to death. My husband went to get my prescription and I had not eaten in many hours. I was hungry and grabbed a cold crab cake that I had made the day before out of the refrigerator and took a bite. It got stuck and I thought I was about done in and my husband was going to come home and find me on the floor. It hurt. I guess they had a tube in my throat or something and it was swollen. From now on soup or something first. Maybe this time will be easier. They said there may be a little snow in the north part of our state for Christmas. We probably wont have any though. One year we had to move Christmas to another day because all of us could not get out to my daughter's for Christmas.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Pure Strength-Back, Biceps & Abs; The floor segment of Buns of Steel; and the prehab segment of KneeHab.

Deb-we had our first snowfall this weekend too.

Lori-We ended up with about 9 inches of snow. Looks like more is coming this weekend :(
Power Hour was a good one. I think I'm going to continue with Pure Strength this week. I am enjoying the oldies :)

Diane Sue-you have a beautiful family! that is a great photo!

Valerie-I know how you feel :( I seem to not be able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time anymore. My fitbit usually says I sleep around 6 hours a night, but I wake up 2 or 3 times.

Carolyn- I'm going to have to try the Pilates based abs. That sounds like something I would like. I've never done a Chris Freytag workout.

I did cardio supersets again today. probably time to move to another now, that was 3x. tomorrow we want to xc ski again. will see how conditions are. last time really not enough snow where we will go tomorrow, and now there may be too much.

Judy, that is definitely enough snow to make a mess of things. I always got a significant workout shoveling! we haven't had much snow the last 2-3 years here, but this year is more likely to be a problem.

I don't remember the last time I slept thru a night. it is a LONG time ago. sometimes I get up and go right back to sleep but more of the time I can't. I read light weight stuff, do a xc word puzzle. that kind of thing. I've had an especially bad time since the election with all the ongoing issues. I guess this means I won't sleep well for the next few years.

Lori you are more dedicated than I am. when I am sick, I am sick, and I do nothing until I can breathe again. it always made me worse when I tried to get into working out too soon, and relapsed.... so it ended up lasting many days longer. so now I stay quiet until I am clear. whatever works!

I'd call 128 aerobic. when we hike or ski, I go for many hours in the mid 120's but then I am more of an endurance athlete. I can get a lot of work done at 128, it's a very efficient zone for me. I can keep it up for hours with occasional posture breaks.

diane sue I think I will be checking in tomorrow but if I don't, wishing you a safe journey on your surgery. great picture.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I was not feeling well...spent a lot of time on the couch. I did some errands in between. Tried to get the blood work done, but of course when I went, they said the DR had not sent in the order. I called the office and she said she sent it 3 times, (electronically), but would fax it to them and see if that worked.

Valerie, do you go to bed early? I never thought about why when we have that light anesthetic..you think and feel like normal, but your brain does not retain what is said and done...mmm...interesting. I always have to get up to use the bathroom, at least once a night, most times twice...and it doesn't seem to matter if I don't drink anything for hours before going to bed or not, even if I make sure to go right before going to bed. This just started happening in the last year or so.

Carolyn, nice that you signed up for Live again. I never heard of Chris Freytag, but that sounds like a good deal. What type of things does your husband do for insomnia?

Diane Sue, what a nice picture! Assume that is your granddaughter and grandson? I agree, doing front squats with a BB is difficult. KCM does those in her new workout. I find it awkward and hard to keep my weight in my heels. I tend to feel like I am falling forward. How do you bathe Gertie in the winter? Do you lift her and put her in a tub? I need to peek at my heart rate during a Cathe metabolic workout and compare. That was strange that the woman asked for money in the store, and she was purchasing a spice? Maybe she wanted it to pay for the spice? Sometimes the anesthetic for procedures can be worse for some people than the procedure itself. I think you are smart to have some soup on hand before you go.

Lori, glad you are feeling better. I have the same issue with the dogs, if I get up, they think its morning and want to go downstairs...LOL.... Any chance we can get an updated Live workout list? ( I hated to ask while you were not feeling well!)...

Judy, nice going with the old workouts. Maybe I need to get a FitBit just to measure my sleep patterns, although, I already know how many times I get up, it also feels like I wake up every time I turn over. :(.

A workout, and this afternoon I am scheduled to take Kylee to the university for a "stress relief" session.

Take care,

Chris Freytag's workouts are mostly intermediate in my opinion, however you can make them harder if desired. She also has some beginner workouts that she did for Prevention magazine. I did her 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme a couple of years ago and really liked it. Fight Cellulite Fast is another that I have done. I first discovered her on Fit TV.

Judy, Pure Strength and Maximum Intensity Strength are my first Cathe weight workouts. I have done the a lot over the years and they are still good workouts. I get nice results with them. I think I would get more sleep time if I didn't cough with the allergies at night. I was awake 2 times and restless (coughing and sipping water) 17 times) I ended up with 6 hours of sleep though. That is pretty good considering. I even had 131 steps after I went to bed ??

Valerie, I remember charts having 128 in the fatburning zone. I can see it being good for endurance. I can rarely fall back to sleep if I get up and read or something. I lay in bed and think. I have to think about things like what workout I want to do or cooking or something to fall back to sleep. If I think budget, fixing or other worries it seems to run in a loop over and over and then I am never falling back to sleep.

Deb, I am so sotto you are not feeling well. It is so frustrating having to wait for authorization and orders for medical treatment. I had to call my doctors office and labs multiple times to get things done. It felt like they put the papers down and forgot abut them or something. Yes that is my granddaughter and grandson. Those front squats with the bar make my shoulders and elbows hurt. I have tried shifting hand positions. The all do not hold the bar the same way. It makes me think they are finding their comfort zone. I give Gertie a bath once a month. She gets it in the shower with a handheld shower head. She just walks in. I think in some ways she has got where she enjoys the shampooing and attention. It has got where I have to warm the water first with the door closed or she runs tight in.

Today will be cardio and maybe more abs. Thanks everyone on the picture. The color is off. My grandson and I look like we have yellow hair and my granddaughter has a bit of red in the picture. I think I may go knock on the neighbors door and see if she answers. She has had a big package on her doorstep since the middle of last week. Maybe I will leave a note and bring it to my house and hope no one thinks I am stealing it. I have seen no one over there either. She does not have a car and told me once that she paid someone to take her to appointments and shopping.
An ambulance came and left with the male neighbor on the other side of us two days ago. We have quite a few 70 to 80 year old neighbors.

Today I did Live Vertical Loading. I like the concept of working down the body then starting over. It was quite a workout although my Fitbit says that I only burned 180 calories. I don't really worry about that when I know I've gotten a good workout. I also did Yoga Tune-Up 10 minute Quick Fix for lower back.
Pure Strenghth is one of the few Cathe DVDs that I don't have. I use many of the older workouts when they come up in a rotation. I really need to review what I own!
Diane Sue, it definitely sounds like you need to check on your neighbor. I would do the same. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Well, skiing didn't work. too much snow so we could not drive off the main road, and the plows left a berm so no place to park. oh well. will do a hike tomorrow. too cold and still icy for cycling.

Deb, DH doesn't even get much anesthetic because his scoping is so simple, but he still remembers nothing. me, they give me a huge load of drugs. there is no question I am totally stupid when I start to wake up. it's funny because I can still give him driving directions to get someplace that are accurate, but I don't remember doing it. definitely not a time to be driving! Deb, it's funny (in a twisted way) that with all the fancy fast ways to communicate ... still things don't get done as expected for no good reason. I drink a lot of water, much more than I used to, and it doesn't all process during the day. even if I stop drinking hours before going to bed, I still need to get up once or twice. It helps if I don't turn on any bright lights. I have a couple night lights strategically placed so it isn't overly bright. last night I got up once or twice and went right back to sleep, no problem.

Diane sue... check on your neighbor.... don't wait until late in case there is anything that needs to be dealt with. that is a long time for no activity unless she went somewhere. we have gotten a habit to notify at least two neighbors when we go somewhere. makes it much easier to tell if all is OK or not. maybe you can get her phone number for the future? I let our neighbor know where we go and when we get back, even for simple trips, like this mornings ski that didn't work. at least someone knows where to start looking if there's a problem.

I always try to have "light weight " things on my mind before falling asleep. If I read politics or see an intense movie ,it's the first thing on my mind in the middle of the night. we usually watch 2 episodes of whatever series we're watching. then get ready for bed around 8. we both like to read for a while before sleeping, and we like to get up between 5-6 am so this works for us. for falling back to sleep, crossword puzzles, word games seem to work pretty well and I usually can go back to sleep. we have a lot of jokes about the "mileage" I do at night. I move a lot even when I'm sleeping soundly. I'm not sure I'd want to find out how many times I wake up or how many "steps" I took. I agree, having some soup or other light dishes already made is a good idea. just heat and eat.

I have Power Hour but haven't used it in a while. I looked at Intensity the other day and will look once more but I think that one is not ever going to work for me. too fancy footwork. chris Freytag is not a name I recognize. I saw Cathe first on FitTv many years ago, but we haven't gotten that channel in ages. it was gone from the line up long before we dropped cable. I used to like it. but the cable dropped everything I ever watched leaving 20 channels of total crap.
