Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/10/2023

Tuesday I did an easy 30 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes of rowing. Yesterday I went for a walk with Chris at the mall for about 40 minutes and did 25 minutes of Peloton arms and core work. Today I did 70 minutes of Peloton rides. I hadn’t done a longer ride in a while and it felt good to get one in. I’ll probably do some yoga or stretching tonight.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch and Cardio Quick Fix workout one.

Valerie-Great job with the walk. It’s frustrating to not be able to do what you want. You are making such great progress and I’m sure you will back to your normal workouts soon. We only give gift cards now. It just works out better all around for us.

Cathy-Great job with Step-N-Motion, STS 2 Mat Yoga. That really is old school!

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Basic Step #230, Raw Timesaver Intervals and CDorner Loosen Neck, shoulders, and hips. 20 lbs is too much for shoulder press for me too. I usually do 10-12.

Today I did Raw Upper Body & Abs, 36 minutes, 101 calories, heart rate 97/136. I added some cardio doing Raw TBTS Cardio, 18 minutes, 106 calories, heart rate 139/172 and finished with CDorner Day 12 Upper Body stretch which was perfect after the upper body work and quick also, 10 minutes, 28 calories.
Total workout time was 64 minutes, 235 calories. I got up early and went to the Dollar store to get things I did not get from Walmart before my workout. I do not like doing that but managed to get motivated to do the workout. Lucked out because there were only 4 customers in the store getting there early.

Valerie, it is supposed to rain tomorrow here. Good job on getting in some 5# curls. It is a good start. We have double ovens, one over the other and microwave above them which is over my head. It is not safe. I have to use a two step ladder to clean it. When I heat soup I set the bowl of soup inside a larger bowl so if something slops it does not land on me.

Carolyn, I have tried to get my appointments done before cold weather hits and chances of snow and ice. I think my next ones are in March unless something comes up. With so much craziness and then unusual viruses I prefer not to take so much chance with wandering around a store. I used to like taking my time and looking at things while shopping.

Judy, nice work getting in the 30 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes of rowing Tuesday, yesterday's walk with Chris at the mall and 25 minutes of Peloton arms and core work. Great job on today's 70 minutes of Peloton rides. 20# dumbbells is a lot. I guess there was a time when I did use 20's many years ago. Kelly seems to pick up 20's a lot. I used 12's today for overhead presses. 15's were pretty heavy and I was struggling Monday.

Hi to Cathy

No workout yesterday because I shopped. Then this morning around 5 woke up to DH yelling for help. Found him in the living room on his knees and unable to move. By that point he was having trouble breathing, which I think was a panic attack. Very severe pain in his right hip and a bit lower back. I called 911, and they got him in a chair and moved him to the stretcher and off to the hospital he went. I was flying around trying to think what to take etc. and in my sleep deprived state made interesting decisions. First I had to search down his glasses to take along, because he can't see without them, and he never lays them in the same place and I couldn't find them before he left. Then I found pants, sweater and socks and shoved them in a bag, and grabbed some food and water for myself. Realized after I was there and in the room with him that I hadn't thought about the fact that he'd been woken up meant he had no shoes with him, and it was only in the low 30's and I didn't take a coat for him. Oops. I did at least have a chance to warm up the car and the wheelchair got right next to the car. They gave him IV pain killers and did X-rays. Arthritis in that area, but no structural issues. He's waiting to get the call that he can pick up a 5 day pain prescription. In the meantime, he came home moving around better than normal, fixed his breakfast, fed the birds, went out and walked and just now about 2 hours later the meds are starting to wear off. He's got an appointment with his own doctor next week on the day that prescription ends. He had told them that he did a hard workout yesterday, and I was quite curious as to what his definition of that was as he doesn't do the really hard Cathe workouts. I asked him when we got home and he said MMA Boxing, but not the conditioning or abs. So here I sit at 11:30 and not a single part of my day so far has been normal. Oh, can I also say that during the time period from finding DH to get him and the EMT people out the door, my heart rate was in the fat burning zone.

Okay random thing, but has anyone come across the Stepper-ton workouts. They showed up in my Youtube shorts and look like such a blast. I did some searching and the studios are in England and the monthly on line membership is in pounds. Honestly not sure I could keep up the pace but it just looks like they are having so much fun.

Valerie that's great that you've started using light weights for some exercises. Hope the rain over on so you can get outside. Microwaves above stoves are not for me. I can usually manage to use them, but I avoid doing liquids in open containers as I'm too concerned that I can't get a good grip on them. I'd be totally good with a kitchen with lower cabinets and a couple open shelves, and the countertops. I can't reach anything beyond the front of the second shelf in our cupboards.

Diane Sue nice job with CDorner Basic Step #230, Raw Timesaver Intervals, Raw Upper Body & Abs, Raw TBTS Cardio, and stretching. I rarely ever do the old workouts because the moves aren't as fun, but that one was just so basic.

Carolyn great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix. I hope the appointments went well.

Judy nice job with the Peloton workouts.

Cathy-I'm so sorry about what happened this morning. That is a scary thing for both of you to go through. I'm glad he was able to come home and didn't have to stay in the hospital.

cathy what a mess of a morning! got the juices flowing for sure. good DH came back home with no serious problems identified. hopefully as he settles down he will piece together what started off the chain of events. best not to do whatever it was again.

I knew I wasn't the only one with an issue about placement of microwaves. our current house came with a combo wall unit oven/microwave. the cooktop was separate. off to the left. I don't think we were there much more than a year when the microwave died. there was only one brand that fit the opening but we chose not to buy one. we bought a separate wall oven, and finished off a shelf above it to house a microwave with its own circuit. weve had to replace the micro multiple times and its much easier if the appliances are separate units. combo units are very expensive. I refused a slide- in stove with the micro over the cooktop. what a bad idea even if you're a taller person. boiling hot liquids at head level? how crazy is that. besides, I like to use the cooktop and micro at the same time. too many conflicts.

dry today so walked again with my neighbor. 1 hr 15 minutes about 3 miles with uphill and down. cant walk fast yet. I need to check distance with the car or a bike some time.

I can reach all three shelves of our cabinets but not easily.. 3rd shelf is safer with a step stool.

Good afternoon. Another day of medical appointments behind us.

Cathy, what a frightening situation with your husband! I’m glad that you were able to get him to the hospital. It sounds like it wasn’t anything major.

Judy, great job with your Peloton rides and rowing.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Upper Body, Raw TBTS cardio, and CDorner Upper Body Stretch.

Valerie, nice job walking with your neighbor.

Today I did Raw TBTS warm up with Lower Body, 27 minutes, 93 calories, heart rate 105/126 following with Raw Glute Finisher with the fabric loop, 23 minutes, 79 calories, heart rate 105/144. I finished off with CDorner High & Low Impact Cardio 90's music calorie torching workout steady state, 32 minutes, 191 calories, heart rate 143/172. Total time 82 minutes, 363 calories, 4,922 steps.

Cathy, what a terrible way to start your day. I hope that your husband is okay. I am sure your heart rate was up there with all of that. I have not heard of Stepper-ton workouts. Are they step workouts. I do lots of CDorner workouts that are step and a lot have interesting choreography, but not hard to pick up on. She does talk a lot. I migrate to her cardio workouts because they are fun. The newer step workouts are a lot more creative on moves rather than just doing things like step up and down and straddle step.

Valerie, nice that you were able to get out for a walk today. It rained all night and was still raining a bit this morning here. My microwave is separate from the ovens. We had to replace the microwave at our last house and put in a convection oven and microwave combo. I did not use the convection often though. That one was above the stove hood, but not near as high as this one is. The closet rods and everything are high and some clear up to the ceiling. Cupboards in the kitchen go to the ceiling which is a high ceiling. There really is no wasted space other than I cannot reach the things at the top. Even the pantry is like that. I put rarely used large pots at the top, because I have to use a ladder to get them down.

Hi to Carolyn and Judy.

Cathy, I went and looked at the Stepperton workout clips. Those look like they would take a bit of practice with how fast they are and the twirling around. I am sure I would lose my footing. They do look like fun. Too bad they do not have at least one posted other than the 25 minute beginner one so people can see if they want to purchase a subscription.

Today I did 30 minutes of rowing and a 20 minute Peloton Full Body strength workout.

Cathy-I hope your husband is feeling better. The Stepperton workouts look like fun, but I don't think I would be able to do them. They are just a little too fast for me. I'm still at Basic Step level though, lol!

Valerie-Great job getting the walk in.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw TBTS warm up with Lower Body, Raw Glute Finisher with the fabric loop and CDorner High & Low Impact Cardio.

Hi to Carolyn

This morning I did IMAX 2 and Stretch Max with the band. Looking like Derek will delay his drive home at least till Tuesday and possibly Wednesday depending on how much snow Marquette gets Monday night. He's good on rent till January, so he can stay easily enough. So, he may actually get home after Nick on Tuesday. LOL

My husband said his hip was painful this morning, so he took another pain pill, but without those we have no idea how bad it would be. Hopefully, our doctor will be able to help.

Valerie great job getting in the long walk.

Diane Sue nice job with Raw TBTS warm up with Lower Body, Raw Glute Finisher with the fabric loop, and CDorner High & Low Impact Cardio 90's music. I'd like to be able to see an actual Stepper-ton workout to try. They are very fast paced, and lots of turning, so I'm not sure how well I could do them. Just looks like the class is having a blast.

Judy great job with the Peloton workouts.

Hi Carolyn.

This morning I did KCM’s Power Splits Lower Body for 35 minutes and 195 calories burned. My average heart rate was 122 and maximum heart rate was 143. I worked out earlier than usual then I did my Saturday morning markets afterwards. My daughter is arriving tomorrow and she asked me to pick up specific items for her. She needs probiotics and fermented foods to add to her daily diet. I bought some kimchi and picked up delicious pickles from my favorite farmer. The young woman who works with them makes amazing vegetarian and vegan prepared food items. I bought kombucha a few days ago so she should be all set.

Diane Sue, nice job with Raw TBST warm up with lower body, Raw glute finisher, and CDorner step.

Judy, nice job with 30 minutes of rowing and Peloton Full Body strength workout.

Cathy, nice job with IMAX 2 and Stretch Max. IMAX 2 is one of my all time favorite Cathe workouts. I looked at the Stepper-ton workouts too. They look like fun workouts, but there’s no way I could go that fast! I didn’t realize that they were located in the U.K. I hope that your husband is okay.

Hello to Valerie.

did another walk this morning, back to the state park. 1 hr 33 minutes. a nice morning again and early enough to miss most people. partly sunny and in the 40's so not bad for december.

Carolyn don't forgot about yogurt with live cultures. I like kombucha at least some kinds. I recently tried kimchi thinking I would like it. nope. bought a small package but way too cabbagg-y for me. Im flunking out on Korean food so far. DH would not even taste it. I'm not a fan of cabbage except raw. smelled too much cooking cabbage growing up and just cant stand the smell.

Thanks Valerie. She is allergic to dairy products along with citrus, and fish/seafood, something we discovered when she was about 8 years old. I did get So Delicious coconut milk yogurt alternative because she likes it for breakfast. It has some live cultures. I like cabbage and Kimchi is okay. It’s not something I would buy just for me. My husband had enough of it when he was stationed in South Korean and would not be eating it.

Great job with the 1 hr 33 minutes of walking in the park.

Today I did Raw Intervals 6, using 3 risers instead of the 4 Kelly used, 42 minutes, 234 calories, heart rate 137/157. Debbie did this one Wednesday so I am not going to type it all out. I followed with STS 2.0 Standing Metabolic Abs Warm Up, 10 minutes, heart rate 134/153, 55 calories. I finished with STS 2.0 Mat yoga, 22 minutes, 37 calories and CDorner Upper Body Stretch 11 minutes, 14 calories. Total time was 85 minutes, 340 calories. Tomorrow is family Christmas. I made two pumpkin pies. One is low carb.

Judy, great job on 30 minutes of rowing and a 20-minute Peloton Full Body strength workout.

Cathy, nice job on IMAX 2 and Stretch Max with the band. The fast pace turns, and step moves reminds me of some instructors I bought dvds from years ago. It would take me a long time to get the moves down. I would work on one combo section for a few days and add as I got the moves down. I felt pretty proud of myself when I got it all. Sometimes though I just gave up. It was annoying me more with myself than being fun. Those workouts do look like they are having fun though. I hope things get better for your husband. Maybe it is a nerve or something. Hopefully the doctor can help.

Carolyn, nice work on KCM’s Power Splits Lower Body today. I love Kombucha myself and have a bottle every day along with yogurt to help with probiotics. My favorite nondairy yogurt is Cashewgurt. I can't get that from Walmart though only Sprouts or Whole Foods. I wish it had more calcium in it though than it does. That is so nice that you got the things for your daughter that she needs. I have made my own coconut milk yogurt, and it tastes way better than those on the store shelves.

Valerie, I am glad the weather isn't bad and you got in a mile and a half walk. I usually buy Kombucha from GT, Kevita, and health aid. Choices are usually ones with ginger in them and not real fruity flavors. Walmart substituted my Gingerade with some that was passion fruit and guava and I hated it. Usually I mark what substitutions or tell them do not substitute.

carolyn no dairy is a bummer! and no citrus! I love greek yogurt and most other milk products. I cant get myself to like coconut milk. I use it in cooking, cookies but drinking it is not good. something about the mouth feel that I dislike. I bought a half gallon of it by accident, thinking it was almond and it ended up dumped. so many choices but I usually use non or low fat real dairy milk. I haven't tried the cashew version but I like nonfat. nonfat dairy has generous protein so I always get plain nonfat greek yogurt. it works well for breakfast, and keeps me from getting hungry half the day. I like kombucha but its pretty caloric and I tend to not drink my calories.
