Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/28

Today I did a JS 15 Minute Calorie Blaster Walk, which was 125 calories burned. Average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 153. After that I did JS Lower Body Focus Circuit from her Boost Metabolism +Muscle dvd which was 35 minutes and 150 calories burned. Average heart rate was 111 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Deb, the continuous rain can be very depressing. We have it, too. Having to go outside with the puppy must be a challenge.

Judy, the LW workouts look and sound like they would be good. Do you save your downloads to an external drive? I find it interesting to see how different trainers approach fitness.

Valerie, good job with ICE Chiseled Lower Body. I like that workout. I almost always do low impact jacks in my workouts. I don’t feel that it lessens the effectiveness. Do you have the X Train dvds? Those are good and they have several premixes.

Diane Sue, I hope that roofer can figure out how to fix your leak. Nice workout yesterday.

Hello to Lori.

Valerie-LW is Linda Wooldridge. This is the one that helped my shoulder:

I downloaded it from her website for a few dollars but I just realized it's on YouTube also. You don't have to download it or buy the DVD. I agree about a DVD being a lot less expensive than PT.

Carolyn- I save downloads to an iXpand flash drive. Lori recommended this drive last year and I really like it. I can watch the downloads on my iPad or TV.

Judy, how do you use Linda Wooldridge Drop Sets since the workouts are so long? Do you do one set at a time, i.e, only the Glutes segment?

This morning I did Kelly Coffey Amped Up Cardio Live both combined workouts, 57 minutes, 371 calories, heart rate average 140, max 168, Met 5.9, 5,348 steps. I then did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Finisher, 13 minutes, 86 calories, , heart rate average 136, max 168, met 6.0, 1,122 steps. Total time was 70 minutes, calories burned 457, 6,470 steps. Roofers have been here. Two trucks at first. The original guys that did the fix and the roofer that came out to look at it was here for awhile. I saw his truck and him climbing down the ladder to leave when I came back from the post office. They have spent a lot more time up there this time.

Carolyn-For the lower body Drop Sets I did 1 segment per workout. For upper body I did biceps & triceps together and chest, back and shoulders separately.

Great workout Diane Sue! I hope they can get the leak fixed this time.

Valerie, that is funny about the licorice. My son in law hates licorice. He calls it something like anise but a not nice word. It is my husband's favorite. I like it, but generally will just eat a piece or two. I really did have some odd cravings though that were not typical of what I would normally have eaten. I drank milk!! I do not even like milk. Maybe she will be able to get a handle on it after the baby is born.
Yes, I know about those crazy leaks. I would have thought all of these roofers would have been able to track it down. We had a slab leak under our shower 3 years ago. Fortunately they were able to fix the pipe by taking out the wall along the side of the tub and using their cameras see where to fix it underneath without tearing up the floor. The only thing to fix after that was that wall space which was kind of curved. My husband found some of those mini tiles that was a multiple tan color to coincide with the old tile that is on around the tub and on the counters and he put up the wallboard and our son did the tile. It looks pretty good. I was afraid they were going to have to tear out the shower which is the old ceramic tile with sliding doors. The less impact or no jacks sounds good. I am not a real fan of so much plyometric stuff between leg work.

Debbie, sorry you have the rain to contend with, with the pup. It is not pleasant trying to encourage them when you are getting wet and it is muddy. That means paw wiping and floor cleaning. I taught my dogs from the beginning that they could not eat out of the bowl till I told them it was okay. So, they usually would just sit there and drool. With Gertie and Mudd I had a door between the kitchen and laundry and kept one's bowl there and the other in the kitchen. Otherwise Mudd would down hers whole which was her nature anyway and go for Gerties bowl. Gertie was a water hog when I was training her. I had to pick up the water bowl and allow drinks at certain times. I don't know if she was afraid of missing water since she was found on the streets or what. As soon as the bowl was down, she would drink all of it. And training was rough.

Judy, thank you for the link. I will watch and see if it might be useful.

we got a window of no rain, so did a 15 mile trail ride. about 1 hr 20 min. took longer as trail was a mess slowing us down.... downed branches and leaves. lots of wind.

Carolyn yes I have x train. I used that one so much I got tired of it. I did Flex Train a lot also. I used some of x-train the upper body workoputs recently. I should re-look at the whole series.

Water will find its way around and through if there is the slightest slip up. the original remodel we did 4 yrs ago was due to a water leak. the first time we turned on the shower after the remodel we had a huge leak. despite all the efforts, we ended up with a different water leak more times 2x. this is an upstairs bathroom so there is potential damage to everything below, but these were very small leaks and all is OK...

I have always hated, absolutely hated.... licorice , that horrible awful black stuff. I sometimes like mild anise flavor like in biscotti, but not licorice. that was my experience with dogs too. they would gobble down everything they could, their food or someone elses. GONE!

Deb, I ordered the 7 dvd series with pyramid.
most of the floor tile ( vinyl squares) did not need to be removed, just 4 pieces along front of the shower door. a few ceramic tiles on the wall needed to be removed and replaced for a different shower door, and the floor in the shower is now ceramic tile. the bathroom floor tiles are not really "tile", but big 16" squares of luxury vinyl. we will replace those ourselves after we leave the floor open for another week or two. want to be sure all the wood dried completely. we did not want to work with ceramic tile, need a tile cutter and some tile cutting skills.

Judy, I saved that link yesterday and am hoping to find the time to try it out. I have not done the 4 Day Split leg workout in a long time. That one is a good one.

Carolyn, nice workout today. I am hoping the roofers got it this time. There was a lot of hammering and noise. More so than the first time.

I keep getting on here intermittently. The roofers are gone. My grandson came by to borrow a tie and belt for his girlfriend's brothers wedding. He stayed for a little while :)

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Judy, 4DS Legs is a great lower body workout. who is LW? Oh, never mind, I see the video you posted now. :). Do you think that your shoulder issue is because one is lower than the other?

Carolyn, nice workouts.

Valerie, good that you notices the bulge etc before the leak got way out of hand. Agree, once they are bad, they are really bad. I like red licorice, like Twizzlers. I wish we would have used that type of tile in our bathrooms instead of ceramic. I hate cleaning it, the grout always looks dirty to me.

Diane Sue, it sounds like they are finally taking a serious look at the leak and fixing it! Ike loves his food! He sees me coming with the bowl and goes crazy jumping at the door of the crate. Then he inhales the food. No chewing for this guy.

Agility class with Kylee today. It will be a good break for the 2 of us to get away from Ike!

Take care,

Good morning ladies,

Going to try and get consistent with my posting. Need to change the time I sign on. Not cutting it at night any more since I am tired when I get home and the last thing I think about is more computer work. This past week I did a LEKfit sculpt and a Barlates Cardio Bounce. I also did Raw cardio overload v1 and also boxing and tubing workouts. I worked out twice with Chelise doing double fit plus we added SB’s 6 mins bis and tris to the end to finish off. We are enjoying working out together.

Judy...that was one impressive ride!! Good for you! I love the dropsets. They are long and hard. I feel so accomplished when I do them. That looks like a great posture workout. Heas it helped?

Valerie...I am glad I ordered the new series. The workouts look like something I would enjoy. Good for you signing up to WW. Can’t believe you have bathroom isses again. Good you caught it quickly.

Diane Sue...I liked the cardio overload. Have not done the new kettlebell one yet. Thinking I will do this today. I find Kelly to be refreshing. I am enjoying her workouts and personality. Same here in the FitSplit workouts. I love the weight workouts in this series. I do like the kickboxing workout too. We love our Instant Pot! I downloaded a couple of cook books and have been breezing through for ideas. I love boiled egs in the morning and they are amazing in the instant pot. Quick and the shell just falls off.

Carolyn...I still have a few more stubborn pounds to go. Perhaps WW will do it for me. It helped a couple of years ago. Kept me in line. Do you like the new program? I know the point structure has changed from when I used it last. I need to think about doing drop sets in segments. I have been doing the entire workouts. If I shorten them I would do them more often. Going to hit my ipad later today and make some premixes!

Deb...so glad to hear Ike is better. Poor little guy. That stinks the pillow did not help. I love that amazon makes it so easy to return things. Here is GiGi in her costume. She did not like it but played along with me. :)

Deb how does that work? You can go off and leave Ike for several hours in his crate? He will “hold it” if he can’t get outside crate?

We have ceramic tile now for shower floor and walls and around the tub Luxury vinyl on floors. Our house was not built to sustain weight of stone tile on floors and would need another layer of wood to hold up ceramic tile. Not happening!
I’m not a fan of ceramic tile floors. Hard heavy cold expensive . Anything that gets dropped is toast.
Luxury vinyl squares are fantastic for a bathroom. We grouted ours so it looks like slate but easy to clean and nice to walk on. It looks like stone without any of the drawbacks. Way nicer than sheet vinyl plus you can do it yourself. And replace a few tiles like we are doing rather than tear out the whole floor.

I’ve eaten red licorice. It does not resemble the black stuff at all. Rubbery . I got sick of it not a big candy fan. I’ll spend my calories elsewhere.

Lori so nice of Gigi to put up with you. She is beyond cute. I am only up 3 lbs from my last fling with WW but I never reach goal. It works for me if I stick to it. There is less tracking with free foods. I got tired of that part and also that so many veg recipes didn’t fit the old program. Newer program is much better for vegetarians

No workout this morning. We went and voted early since my husband is often home after the polls close. I may get in a quick workout in the morning before church.

Lora, Gigi is so cute in her costume, love the pictures :) You are doing well keeping up with the workouts with all of the work stress. I have been enjoying so many different choices with Kelly's raw workouts. I really do like her personality. Yes, eggs are so quick and easy with the instant pot. I made a Thai turkey carrot noodle bowl from my new Whole 30 Cookbook that was really good and simple using ground turkey. I have plans for a recipe from the same book for Instant Pot mushroom pork chops. I am learning how to use the instant pot for non instant pot recipes and adjusting time. It can be so quick and easy if you purchase the already spiraled or chopped veggies. I generally try to think ahead and have the veggies cut myself so I can just toss it together. It is so nice that you can saute things and then pressure cook without extra pans. I have used it once for a slow cooker pot of chili for family dinner recently. I did have to pressure cook to finish it off though. I learned that there is a higher setting on mine for the slow cooker that cooks hotter. The regular cooks more like on the warm setting. I remember reading this in reviews and someone had said they had to throw out meat that had been sitting there on warm all day. The chili was only in the pot for 2 hours and I wasn't worried as I had browned the ground beef ahead of time so it was not raw meat.

Deb, that is great that Ike likes his food. That is how Mudd was with her food. Gertie always chews and crunches her food. Thinking of crates and house breaking, Gertie would have accidents in her crate at t he start. Even when I put a box in to give her less space. We went through a lot of towels that I threw away till we got through that phase. I sealed our grout several times when we had it put in and it still is getting discolored. My son had us buy some stuff that should have been mixed with the grout when installed. I didn't realize it was supposed to be mixed in the grout, so it didn't get used. Working with the 7 eleven stores and building etc., I think that is what he says works best and it still isn't fool proof.

Valerie, generally pups do not want to go in their immediate space and that is why crate training works most of the time. The luxury vinyl sounds like a great option.

This morning I did WS3 Cardio Hit, a boxing workout. It was 31 minutes and 225 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Judy, thanks for the information on the flash drive. I wrote the name down so that I can look into it. I really liked the look of LW’s Lower Body Drop Sets for Glutes, which is the only one that I have previewed. I just can’t see myself spending 44 minutes on one body part!

Lori, it’s great that you are keeping up with your workouts considering how hard you are working. I really like the current WW Freestyle program. With limiting sugars and saturated fats it is similar to what I have been trying to do with my eating for a few years. That’s a cute picture of Gigi.

Diane Sue, we voted a couple of weeks ago. I like to get it done ahead of time whenever possible. I haven’t gotten on the instant pot bandwagon since I already have two slow cookers and two pressure cookers. I’m thinking about getting one for my middle daughter since they lead such busy lives. She has mentioned it a few times, but hasn’t gotten one yet.

Valerie, do you use any of your weekly points allotment? That’s how you fit in some items that aren’t as “points friendly”. You might have also noticed the rollover points if you don’t use all of your daily allotment. Some days I eat more than others and the rollovers are nice to have.

Deb, I hope you had a good morning at agility class.

Carolyn, I find I get some nice muscle when I work body parts in one longer session. It seems there are not many instructors with workouts planned out like that though. I got rid of my large slow c ooker when I got the instant pot. I never had a pressure cooker before.

I did ICE Low impact sweat premix for about 30 min, then core 2. the premix was not as long as I expected. I thought it went thru more exercises, so I did MM back at the end instead of going back to the cardio part. I really like supersets. used 20's and 12's. did not seem that hard but by the third set, I'd had enough.

Carolyn, I am not as structured as that. maybe that's why I don't lose much. I try to stay with the daily point total and ignore the bonus points. I am not someone who loses weight easily. I am getting resistance from DH, he wants pasta, and will end up making two dinners. I sometimes make what he wants and have a very small serving myself to avoid double cooking. cheese is the point killer. so is quinoa, rice, breads, pasta.
