Good morning,

No workout yesterday, I didn't go to agility class either. The weather was awful and I didn't want to drive out in it.

Judy, probably a good idea to rest your upper body. I hope the chiropractor is able to help. Doesn't ab work involve your neck a bit?

Carolyn, good that you were able to find a lock set for the door. A new door is so nice to have. Will it be wood or painted?

Lori, having that 2nd jumpsport was a good thing to do. Good that the ladies are getting back into the lunch workouts. We are now watching the current season of Suits....all caught up finally! Did you go to see Gigi yesterday?

Diane Sue, good that you are getting to do some upper body work, and going very slowly. 48 guests at a 6 year old party had to be crazy!

A workout, then Housemax for me.

Take care,

Deb, I don't blame you for not wanting to go out into bad wearher. I would have done the same thing. Yes, that party room was really full. The children took the tables and adults stood or sat on folding chairs around the walls. Although the children only sat long enough to have their cake and goodies. Fortynately that part is not long. My granddaughter had them line up with their presents to give my grandson and kept it pretty organized. You can tell she works with the aftercare at her school.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did SB's Outer Thigh Target. It was on the rotation from Friday so wanted to make sure I fit it in. I then 2 of her streaming bounce workouts plus the cardio section from her DVD. These are not as intense as the power jumps but I love them just the same. Total time was 66 miniures and 435 calories.

Deb..the weather has been pretty good here. Cold but no rain or snow this weekend. We did not see GiGi this weekend. My husband felt it would be too confusing for her and wanted her to stay focused. The trainer is calling her a very sweet firecracker! The videos he sends melt our hearts. This has been hard. :( but she really needed to get her energy controlled formher safety.

Carolyn..there are times I need a few days off and it always does me good.

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did one of the timesaver premixes from S&S Total Body Giant Sets.

No workout this morning, I have an appointment for a re-check with the ENT on the nodule or whatever that is in my throat.

Diane Sue, who better to have a kid's party like that than an day care person? :)

Carolyn, I hope you are feeling better soon,

Lori, great workouts! So you get Gigi back this coming weekend? I bet she will be ecstatic..

Take care,

we did more .log rolling and chopping. I have to back off on the chopping. my left wrist is not happy with it. plenty up and down the hill with logs, and then did a 40 min spin after. the first spin workout. I've decided the countdown timer is nice but not essential and I like the music better on this one.

I forget if I said, we dusted off and cleaned our record collection. all oldies from the 60's ,'70's. they cleaned up nicely. we bought a cheap turntable and are listening to a different one during the time before dinner. willie Nelson and simon and garfunkle held up surprisingly well. Peter Paul and Mary did not. I had a lot of Motown stuff, so-so. funny how some music is fine and how some is annoyingly dated. It is so clear that often the title track is the only good song, and everything else is filler. we will sell or give away the things we don't like. not worth that much money.

yes Lori ease them back into it. no reason to get everyone sore and over worked. it's been months, let them slide back into it . Will be so nice to get your puppy back. Nothing like a Happy dog!

I feel more like myself today. My workout was Ramped Up Upper Body. It felt good to work with weights today. I just read one of the articles from this weeks newsletter that seemed like Cathe was writing to me. The article was on how workouts should change after 50. She discussed some things that I am learning about myself such as need for longer recovery periods and the need for flexibility training like yoga. I think that's what I was feeling this weekend.

I am doing week four of the Strong and Sweaty rotation and definitely ready for a change. One thing that I find odd in this rotation is that some weeks Ramped Up Upper Body and Bootcamp are done on consecutive days. Since Bootcamp has upper body work included I have avoided doing them back to back.

Valerie, your outdoor work is impressive. I can't imagine doing the things that you do, both leisure and home maintenance work.

Hello to everyone.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Boot camp, timesaver 7 no upper mix, 35 minutes, 251 calories. This still has the metabolic weight sections so it is not exactly no upper. I did not do the push up/fly combo. Instead I just did some lunges off the step with dumbbells. I then did Strong and Sweaty Abs, (no push ups or pull over moves) 14 minutes, 68 calories. I wanted to ta bit more weight workout so I did Total Body Giant Seats rounds 5 and 6 with the stretch(last lower round and arms round) 19 minutes, 109 calories. I finished off with Les Mills Pump Flow 21 minutes, 46 calories. Total time was 89 minutes, calories burned 474. I have an early appointment tomorrow, but am hoping to get in a bit of cardio before I have to be there .

Lori, I keep reading up on how to help the lymphatic system and rebounding comes up on everything. I am hoping to start back soon. I also read doing a hypoallergenic diet for a couple of weeks can help. The only thing is when I looked at some plans, I would have to give up dark chocolate, nuts, pineapple (which I just purchased) , caffeine, and quite a few other things that I normally eat that I would consider healthy. I may have to try it though. I found some stuff on lymphatic massage and a few you tube videos for self massage. How much longer is Gigi going to be gone? Hopefully training is going well. It is for her own safety and I totally understand.

Deb, I checked out the Total Body Giant sets premixes but did not see one that would fit what I wanted to do today. I will like it when I can do the entire workout. I have used the lower only mixes though. It wasn't hard to pull out an upper body round that was doable though. I did more triceps extensions instead of the close grip press though.

Valerie, log rolling and chopping would be more of a workout than most workouts are. I hope your wrist is not injured and it is just a bit of overuse. Funny thing on the dvd music today. I noticed that there was some screechy sound on Total Body Giant sets that reminded me of the sound the garbage truck makes when it comes . I thought of you when I made a spinach, walnut, apple salad from pinterest today. It has a cup of shaved Brussels sprouts in it and pomegranate seeds ( I used some frozen pomegranate kernals) It was pretty good. I blanched the Brussels sprouts a bit because I like them better that way. I still have a lot of Brussels sprouts to do something with.

Carolyn, I have learned not to be so hard on myself. It used to be that I could not let an instructor go heavier than me. I felt determined that I had to do what they did. I have learned that you can get excellent results going lighter and with more rest. I sort of feel that SS Boot Camp has a bit more of a cardio feel. Doing the mix that cut out the upper body segments only cut off about 10 minutes of workout time. If you did it the day before an upper body workout I would use a premix like the one I did or go very light on the upper body work. I did an older rotation once that used the Low Impact Series and a good portion of the workouts uses weights. Doing some of those back to back had me hurting. I finally had to switch out some workouts.

Good evening ladies!

No workout this morning. Was tired from all the bouncing this weekend! At lunch we did SB Arms and this ended up being my only workout It is under 15 mins and it was perfect for the first day. I'll have to say though for a short light weight workout this one has a bite. Tomorrow I have a 12 min standing abs ready to go.

Deb...I hope your appt goes well. We do not know who will be more estatic..me and Bob or GiGi! The video he sent this morning was or her and another dog gently playing. It was so sweet.

Valerie...can't believe you did a spin workout after the log rolling and chopping. You amaze me! That is really awesome you have such a great vinyl collection. They all did good today. We are all so busy and knowing the workouts are shorter really motivated everyone.

Carolyn...that sounds like an interesting article. I have not had a chance to read her newsletter yet. I love that she sends a weekly one out. Great job on getting to week 4! Good for you!

Diane Sue...you always do such hreat workouts. You will be at full steam in no time. Since buying a rebounder I try and bounce most days sonce learning how wonderful it is for your lymphatic system. Every article about rebounding mentions it. I could never do that diet and give up nuts and caffeine. We pock GiGi up on Saturday and it could not come fast enough. The Bellicons are so much more expensive than the Jumpsport can't believe you still have to buy additional cords to adjust the firmness. I have never tried one so I can not compare but I am very please with the Jumpsport.

Have a great night...I am off to bounce for a bit!!

Lori, I am sure the Gigi will be as happy to see you as you are to see her. I always thought of the Bellicon as the Cadillac rebounder because it is so expensive. I kind of like the way you can choose the colors of the bungie cords when you purchase as well ad the strength. I doubt I would ever get one. They cost too much money. Anita Champion on you tube got one and it looks pretty cool. I haven't done her workouts for awhile.

I did total body metabolic again today. that is one efficient workout for me now although I'm adding in more reps on several exercises, and am using cathe weight thruout. I plan on going up from 5 to 8 lbs on several moves next time. ended up getting a load of interruptions and distractions when I was about to start a workout, so did a familiar one instead of a newer one.

the log work was not as hard as I used to do. I am getting arthritis in my left wrist. when I overuse it, it gets unpleasant. the thumb joint is deteriorating along with another spot. not sure how much more wood chopping is in my future. I wear a brace at night to give it some rest but I don't want to over use it because the joint is important for bike riding too. I let DH do the work today and did the shopping and then TBM later.

I have tried shredded Brussels sprouts but I like them much better cooked. salad sounds good otherwise. I love pomegranate seeds but the season is over a month ago here. I love salads like that. I have a favorite one with lettuce, chicken, walnuts, sliced apple with a reduced apple juice vinaigrette. so good!.

I am doing an overhaul of my recipe files. bought some new plastic sleeves and file folders and will update and weed out one group at a time. I prefer a written copy in plastic sleeve.. I guess I'm a messy cook! things we like keep evolving and there are a lot of oldies that can be replaced with new things I enjoy more.

Good morning,

No workout for me yesterday, I had the early doctor appointment. The nodule (or cyst) on the muscle near my vocal cord has not changed. One more re-check in 4 months and then no more unless something happens with it.

Valerie, that log rolling/chopping is some workout! You would be surprised at how many people want old LP records. Try looking on Ebay and see what some may be going for.

Carolyn, I agree, the S&S rotation is kind of strange...maybe since I only have the 5 discs, and it just seems to repeat..I don't see the "plan" in it. Like you said, Boot Camp then the upper body one 2 days in a row doesn't seem right. I keep saying I need to print the one with the ICE workouts mixed in...but have not done it yet. Maybe that has some structure that makes sense.

Diane Sue, I don't know how you do all those different workouts at the same time...do you sit down prior and figure them out?

Lori, that 15 minute lunch workout was good for the ladies to get back into the swing of things, and good for you since you did so much this past weekend. I bet it will be Gigi that will be over the top when you pick her up. Happy Bouncing!

Taking Keegan to our breeder friend for grooming....he needs a professional to "clean him up" a bit. Then class at noon with Kylee...then pick up Keegan....a busy day in the car. I hope the weather cooperates.

Take care,

Carolyn. I agree that cathes info on workouts after 50 has good ideas. it reinforced the importance of warm ups cool downs and stretching. I always include them now, where I used to skip over them. I never like working the same areas on consecutive days unless the activity is different. I don't spin two days ina row but would spin one day and hike or do the elliptical the next. I also would not do two upper body workouts in a row unless the focus was very different. a little overlap is OK.

Today I did the SS Bootcamp. I reviewed it again and decided that I wanted the cardio and lower body work. I used lighter weights on the upper body segments. From a practical point of view I had more time to do it today than I will have tomorrow.

Diane Sue, I remember that the Low Impact Series used a lot of weights in the workouts to get the heart rate up. Bootcamp reminds me of some of those.

Valerie, the recipe organization is something that I need to do. My binder is too small and needs to be replaced.

Deb, that's good news about the nodule. I have all of the SS rotations printed but I haven't tried any of the others. I do like more variety in my workouts so I am looking forward to finishing this one.

Lori, I am glad things are going well with Gigi. I know you will be glad to have her home.

Today I did Rock 'm sock' m kickbox, 50 minutes, 397 calories. I had an appointment this morning and went to the grocery store. To morrow will be a pork roast since my daughter and family will be over for their Wednesday night dinner. My surgeon had offered me a free choice of fillers, botox or the stuff that grows lashes? Anyway, I went in today and got botox. I expected just to get my frownie lines (the 11's) done but they also did a bit around my eye area. The said I had nice skin. Didn't need a lot of work. Anyway I am to go back so they can see how well it did and where I might want improvements. I am thinking there is no way I am going to be able to go back repeatedly for the procedure even if I loved it. In some ways that sort of stresses me out. I just thought it would be fun to see how it works. My daughters office talked about doing it but her and the other doctor do not care to do it. They deal more with skin cancer, peels, skin conditions, teen acne and that sort of thing. Also, I have been loving the 100% pure line of natural skin care products. But, they have started changing packaging from tubes to little bottles and upped the price. I am almost out of my CoQ10 and A night cream so was searching on Amazon. I found another company that does not have as extensive of a collection yet but is pretty much the same and ordered their Super Fruits Face Whip Organic with Vitamin C, Alpha Hydroxy Acid, licorice root. I am hoping it works as well or I may be wasting my money. I tried recently using a Cetaphil face cream and ended up with breakouts so that one was out. I always end up hunting for the perfect product at a lesser cost and waste a lot of money. Usually I can get enough coupon savings and get the 100% Pure at Beauty Brands. They do not carry the whole selection though.

Valerie, I hate dealing with arthritis myself. Good you are lightening up a bit. Nice work on increasing the weights on the metabolic workout. The salad I made had a vinaigrette and had walnuts, applea, pomegranate kernals, Brussels sprouts, spinach, and called for raisins but I used dried cranberries instead. I have another one I have been making a lot that that is a cranberry avocado salad that has almonds, avocado, and cranberries with mixed baby greens. I have been using either kale or a mix of kale and spring mix. It has a poppyseed dressing that is the one that called for the white balsamic vinegar. I really like it and have added some apple to it once in awhile. Also the one with the Brussels sprouts says yu can make it a meal by adding some protein source to it. I always have eaten a lot of salads. My grandchildren used to question why I ate salad all of the time. Generally if some one picks something up for me they will bring me a salad. I have shifted a bit recently to soups quite a lot though. Sometimes I have both. I was looking at my workout pages sprea out on my desk yesterday and thinking I need to pick up those sleeves. It would also be a good way to keep my paper recipes that I print. I have been typing some of them into a journal book with evernote on my tablet. I have so many recipes. I hav my mothers recipe box and my grandmothers recipe box with all of their hand written recipe cards in them. I also have one of my own. I started typing some of those into my tablet. Funny, I used to think that the warm up on the original I Max was way too long. I think it was 14 minutes. Now I always welcome the warm ups. I never skipped them though. I would do 2 or three entire dvd workouts in one sitting and I did every warm up and cooldown/stretch . I wanted the exact calorie count for the workout in my logs. I guess I am kind of OCD about that for the most part. I am much better now since I mix and match workouts a lot. But I do prefer adding an extended stretch and I hate workouts like Insanity that start right out at a high pace. I feel like I need a warm up before the warm up.

Deb, that is good news that there is not a change in the nodule. They told me I need to come in in 3 months and have the nodule on my thyroid checked. I guess I should set that up before long. I keep thinking I am going to be done with appointments for awhile. I still need to get Gertie in for her yearly shots. With the surgery and everything they have been postponed a bit. I still have a couple of months left of her Heartgard. I am hoping to fit that in this month along with the dentist and another recheck for me. Sometimes I start with a workout and then form a plan when I look over the premixes if I don't know them well yet. Yesterday I did pull out a couple of sheets of premixes to look over. Sometimes I just know what I want to do. Today was one of those days that I did not have time to come up with something other than just one workout as is. I already had the workout laid out last night. Also yesterday I had kind of contemplated the Muscle Meltdowns from Ice for my arms. I may do that another day. I like that they do 5 exercises in a giant set on those. They do not have as many exercises per giant set on Total Body Giant Sets. I hope the weather is nice for you with your running around. It is sunny and in the 60's here today. I think we may have a cold front coming in. It has been a pretty mild winter so far, but that could really change.

Carolyn, I had more shoulder and elbow pain when doing the Low Impact series on a daily basis. I sort of feel like the low impact helped the knees at the sacrifice of the upper body with the weights swinging around. Some of it is how quickly it is done. Yes, SS Bootcamp does remind me of that. If my shoulders get tired from the overhead stuff I do some biceps curls with the moves or just hold the weights down by my side, depending on what the rest of the move is. I don't want to hurt when I am done. It is pointless to workout if I am going to constantly be sore and injured.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a Spinerval and today I did KCM Total Body Kickboxing workout 2 and XTrain Core 2. I like the XTrain Core bonuses more than the S & S one. I will try the S & S bonus again at some point. I feel pretty good and my shoulder/neck seem better.

We got a few inches of snow overnight and it's very cold out. Winter has definitely returned! I was spoiled by a couple of weeks of unusually warm weather.

Deb-yes, ab work does involve the neck and that may be a big part of my problem. I'm going to be more careful with ab workouts and try not to strain my neck. I don't like driving in bad weather either. I'm staying home today. That is good news about the nodule.

Carolyn-I read Cathe's article on how workouts change when you are over 50 and I felt like it was written for me too. I am having a hard time accepting the need for extra rest days, but my body has been telling me that is exactly what I need. When I was in my 30's and 40's I would go for weeks at a time without a rest day.

Valerie-We need to clean up our record collection too. We've been on a Rush kick lately. We watched "Beyond The Lighted Stage" and R30 this weekend.

Lori-Great job on the bouncing workouts. I bet you can't wait to see Gigi!

Diane Sue-that is so true, that you can get great results going lighter and getting more rest. I have to keep reminding myself about the more rest part..

Back from mt biking. went to our favorite place to ride. it's been quite dry for a couple weeks so no mud at all. probably 50 ish, but warmer in the sun. rode for 2 hours. this is the first ride since fall on real trails. a few minor crashes, unexpected dismounts, and hill walk ups. there's a certain pitch I can't ride up, though DH can now. I get off rather than tip over, and I don't think the calorie burn is any different if I ride up or walk pushing the bike. these are short steep sections or a couple of tree "rooty" parts. steep grades. doesn't amount to much mileage. I wish I could do them.

plants are all amping up . still cold but feeling spring like for sure.

deb, great that the nodule is just sitting there. that is what you want!.

Judy we have a bunch of off the wall records and then the common ones that every one seems to have. we are enjoying the music mostly. so much more to it than what is on air these days.

ETA I do recipes in 8.5 x 11. I keep them in sheet protectors, and then store them in categories in pendaflex folders. I have a fair number but most are not active all the time. some get retired but I am reluctant to trash things I've made and enjoyed. I need to copy and refile a basic group of recipes for our new house. we will not be near a store so I need to be prepared ahead of the last minute.

Lori I hate interruptions too. I'd just talked to my sister and she called back urgently because she'd cut herself in the kitchen. not a big deal unless she gets infected but she was very upset. once I get the disk going I don't like to interrupt except for maybe water breaks.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did SB's Butt Lift followed up with one of her streaming bounce/barre. I did the barre moves off of the trampoline since I do not have the bar on this one. Easy enough to do. 39 mins and 231 cal. At lunch we did two 5 minute Pop Sugar standing abs that I strung together for a nice little 10 min workout. The ladies are loving these quick but intense workouts! I love them because they are great pick me up 1/2 way thru the day. When I came home I noticed SB uploaded a cardio bounce 13 min workout so I was compelled to try it out and it was short but great and I was feeling the burn during the barre sections. My son left for a few days so I get my workout space back for a bit. Yeah!

Diane Sue...the smaller Jumpsport I bought I chose red bungie cords and I love it. Costco had either black or red. I remember researching the bellicon and did like all the different colors and you needed to also select firmness. What concerned me was at the time I had no clue what firmess I would want! I found that very confusing. I made the right decision for me going with what I have. I have done a couple of Anita's workouts. She is fun and in such amazing shape!

Valerie..congrats on increasing weights. I hate getting interrupted when working out. My family knows once I start do not interrupt me unless my Mother is calling. She passed away 23 years ago so she will not be calling. I have arthritis is my right big toe. Only place. So far it has not bothered me too much. So afraid one of these days I will need to alter my workouts. Hoping this is still far off. Nice your are organizing your recipes. We need to really do that. Great you were able to go to your favorite place to ride. Not even thinking aboit Spring for a while! It is actually snowing at the moment here in New England!

Deb...that is great the cyst has not changed. I agree it was a good decision to do short workouts at lunch. This getting them back into it and feeling good about themselves. Keegan will look so handsome afterwards. When I had my Collie he looked so beautiful when he was recently groomed.

Carolyn...I do that a lot...switch a workout around from a rotation due to time. SB's rotation are usually shorter workouts so I am usually adding on!

Diane Sue...I do not think I will ever try fillers or botox. No way could I afford the maintenance. When my friends tell me what they spend it blows my mind! I does look great though and you will love it. I have been using Retin A for over 10 years now and it has done wonders for my skin. Most people are very surprised when I tell them my age. My Dentist expanded his practice and does fillers and botox...apparently he does it to himself because my husband and I noticed recently he is looking really scary. He needs to stop. Very nice you have your mothers and your grandmothers recipe boxes. Even more special to have their hand written notes. I have a few of my moms with her notes that I have treasured. I always smile when I make one of her recipes.

Judy..nice workouts! Glad your shoulder feels better. I also like the Ice core workouts over the S&S. For a while I felt really guilty taking extra rest days. I do not any more. If I need one I take it. Since I discovered Barre I have completely changed my workouts. High Reps with lighter weights really work for me.

Have a great night all!

Judy, I find d o me of the weighted ab stuff causes my neck to hurt afterward. I used to use much heavier weights than Cathe doe d. That and very long ab workouts probably are part of my neck issues now.

Valerie it is nice that mid winet you are able to get out for a good ride. It has been spring like here lately. My plants need some water. It has been kind of dry.

Lori, I think that for the I would want the firmer jump surface on a rebounder. I saw S b had added new bounce workouts. Is it just one? For some b reason I thought it was two. I won't be keeping up the botox. I am not going to go find a job to support my face . I am always on the lookout for good products and at home methods for my skin rather than spend loads of money if you st a y with a good program it helps keep the skin in good shape. Too bad there was such a push for sun tanning when I was growing up. I think a lot of women are working on reversing suren damage. I think dentists are taking in some botox work for tmj. My younger daughter mentioned getting it for that. It seems like having access would be tempting for some people to over do t using it.

Good morning,

I can't believe it's February already! No workout yesterday, but I did get Keegan to the groomer, and Kylee to class. The snow wasn't so great while driving the 45 minutes to the groomer, but it settled down by class time.

Carolyn, I think if you use really light weights in something like BootCamp, even if it's after a heavier weight day, it would be ok.

Diane Sue, that's great that they gave you a free treatment. I feel the same as you, I would lke to try, but I don't think I would want to continue with those, so that is why I wouldn't start. I know me, once I start and like something, I would want to keep doing it. I get nervous about going "overboard" I wish I could be so creative with salads. Can you post the one with the poppy seed dressing here?

Judy, Glad your shoulder/neck is better. I don't remember the ab bonus from xTrain....still have not done the S&S one.

Valerie, great that you were able to get a good ride in. Hopefully those minor crashes were nothing causing any damage. Agree that walking the bike up hill is better than a possible fall.

Lori, great workouts with the Ladies. LOL about not interrupting your workout unless your mother is calling. :). Keegan looks great. We had him clipped instead of striped, I need to get used to how he looks now. Clipping is easier on the skin. I feel the same about the fillers etc, some people don't know when to stop. I also have some of my Mom's recipes, hand written on cards or paper. She had one for "Chef Salad" which was just lettuce & tomatoes! Too funny, I am sure that is from when they just got married.

Work this afternoon, then class right afterwards....this is the last class for me on Wednesday nights for a while.

Take care,
