Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/28/2024

Today I did STS 2.0 Metabolic Core Warm Up, 10 minutes, 44 calories, heart rate 113/130, 563 steps. I used the 5 and 10# plates for this. I then did CDorner Kickbox and Core tabata"Turbo Tabata" with an extra 4 min warm up, 39 minutes, heart rate 108/157, 140 calories. I finished with CDorner Day 30 full body static stretch 18 minutes. Total Time 67 minutes, 212 calories. The Kickbox core alternated a kickbox tabata with a core tabata. I had to modify some of the core as each tabata had two moves and one was in a plank. I stayed off of my hands and did some on my forearms as knee drops and ended up doing a side plank on arm which she finished off with later. It was a good workout though. The bear move was difficult so I did the forearms again. My right wrist arthritis is really painful right now. It needs a break. I put some Biofreeze on it before bed and that ended up just making it hurt more and feel like I put ice on too long.

Cathy, good work on STS disc 20 legs. I hope things are helpful for your husband, so he does not have a stone again. We only have one Whole Foods so if they don't have something I just do not get it. I think all of the stores seem to be kind of low in stock on things. My problem with delivery, I will order more than I need of Kombucha because often they will be out of some, or limit how many, so I order at least 3 of various varieties so I at least get some. My husband drinks zero Gatorade and he likes fruit punch. That flavor is almost always unavailable so I order it along with other flavors that he will drink, so they do not try to send orange. Obviously, orange is the least liked. For chicken breasts Sprouts was my last option for whole breasts of a decent brand and type. I buy laundry and cleaners from Amazon.

Valerie, good idea to take it easy today. I am being a bit easier on myself till I get some of this arthritis flare under control. I did no impact on the kickboxing workout. I just wasted too much time trying to find a workout today. My original plans had too much that would bother my knees or wrists. I buy things like Jovial cassava pasta and Lakanto syrup and gold monkfruit for recipes, and nut butters.

Carolyn, good job on Jessica Smith Fat blaster. I cannot get Amazon fresh here. Most things like that take me to Whole Foods on Amazon. I prefer ground bison. I tried a roast once and because I like my meat cooked pretty well, it was really tough, but my dog enjoyed it. I suppose I could find another way to cook it than just roast it. It is the expense and waste that I don't like. Whole Foods here carries a lot of local stuff. I like the scissortail kale from there which is local. They were out of the Elemental coffee which is a local coffee place that has specialty coffees and tea downtown Oklahoma City. The one my granddaughter got me for Christmas had a bergamot flavor note and was wonderful coffee. I usually get Bell and Evens Chicken from Whole Foods that has not broth and additives and is organic.

Judy, great job on the Peloton ride and reaching your goal! I have learned to check sellers on Walmart and Amazon. I prefer items to be shipped or delivered from Amazon or Walmart. It saves a lot of problems. I hunted all over Amazon for a particular brush head and sellers were questionable. One had Olive Garden as a seller. Walmart was the same way. My husband forgets to check those things once in a while. That is sad Walmart was no help. At least Amazon generally has the AtoZ guarantee for most things. I have found if I buy cosmetics off Amazon to make sure the seller is Amazon or the actual brand. I tried to buy an IT item once and the seller was a company that seemed to sell car parts. I figure it will be one of those things that goes on like it has been around for some time and the female didn't want it or something. I they pick up sales items and sell them. I rarely shop Target unless I have a granddaughter asking for something from there. One wanted a gift card and then they started sending me all kinds of adds. I wish I had more close shopping places that were not in heavy traffic and large shopping areas. Plus not so safe places.

I did a walk in our yard yesterday for half an hour and then did most of the therapy exercises. I have some new things that I will do maybe every other day.

we've had good experience with amazon. some 3rd party sellers are fine but not always. I prefer to buy locally but Im not driving all over the county looking for things we need when it can be delivered here often the next day. tired of the "supply chain" excuse. Target is another one. the store is convenient , next to costco but I almost never find what I need there despite spending a long time looking for it. their in- store customer service is awful and the check outs beyond tedious. they have a CVS pharmacy that has half empty shelves and products organized in stupid ways. I get a headache every time I go in that place so I seldom do. maybe its a fine place for families with kids but I bat about 5% at finding what I need.

Today we did our park walk. did it in 1 hr 11 minutes today. took 90 min the first time. it helped that it was windy and water choppy so no birds to look at. we take binoculars but some days its not worth it.

Today I did Ramped Up Upper Body, Back and Chest only timesaver. My time was 39 miles and 149 calories burned. My average heart rate was 109 and maximum heart rate was 149.

Diane Sue, great job with STS 2 Metabolic Core Warm Up, CDorner Kickboxing and Core Tabata, and CDorner stretch. Bison steak is very easy to overcook since it is so lean. I looked at a couple of the videos on the Wild Idea Buffalo site to get tips on steaks. I haven’t tried a roast.

Valerie, nice job with walking in your yard for half an hour and therapy exercises. Shopping in stores like Target is certainly harder than it used to be. I just don’t do it very often anymore.

Hello to Cathy and Judy.

Shopped yesterday. This morning was STS Disk 21 Back and Biceps. Ugh Biceps. On the second barbell curl double wave set, I had to stick with the first, lightest weight. My husband passed his kidney stone last night! Amazing how a tiny little thing can cause so much pain.

Carolyn nice job with Jessica Smith’s 30 Minute Fat Blaster, and Ramped Up Upper Body, Back and Chest only timesaver.

Judy congrats on achieving your 150 miles for January!

Diane Sue great job with STS 2.0 Metabolic Core Warm Up, CDorner Kickbox and Core tabata"Turbo Tabata" and stretch. Sorry to hear how much your arthritis is bothering you. When you are ordering from Whole Foods, do you not have the ability to add notes so you can specify substitutes you want or don't want?

Valerie I'm glad you got a good walk in. Bird watching is a plus and minus when you're out because if they are interesting it slows you down, but if there isn't any you can get in better exercise. I can't do it at Whole Foods, but at Meijer for those occasional items I have to track down, or when they've played their lets move everything around game, my app lets me see the area, aisle and location within the aisle of the item.

Cathy since this park is on a bluff above salt water, we usually take binocs. if the water is quiet we can usually see ducks and water birds. some seasons better than others. in winter there isnt much in the trees and shrubbery . if breezy and water is choppy, its too hard to ID anything. we usually can look from a couple different spots but yesterday was not worth carrying them. even whales and dolphins are hard to see if its not smoother.
I do pretty well at grocery stores finding things since most use similar floor plans. both stores have apps but do not say location of items in the store. Target and CVS defy logic. there was a digital "look up" system at Target last time I was there but it didnt work. sent me to the wrong place.

we were going to try to walk in the mountains this morning but it was raining as we drove that direction. rather than waste gas and time, we bagged it and may try again this weekend. snowpack is pitiful and its already Feb so at least I wont miss a good ski season.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Fit, workout one, which is kickboxing interspersed intervals of lower body strength. That was 30 minutes and 198 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 158. I made some whole wheat hamburger buns this afternoon and I’m pleased with the end product. I’ve been so frustrated with trying to find a decent whole wheat bun!! Now I will have some in the freezer when I need them. I had forgotten how much better bread tastes when made with fresh milled flour that still has all of the nutrients. So much healthier.

Cathy, great job with STS disc 21 Back and Biceps.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

Yesterday I did 45 minutes of Yin Yoga. Today I did 10 minutes of shoulder mobility work and an easy 10 minute row. I worked yesterday and today (4 hour shifts) and will be working 6 hours tomorrow.

Diane Sue-Great job with STS 2.0 Metabolic Core Warm Up, CDorner Kickbox and Core tabata, and CDorner Day 30 full body static stretch. I’m sorry about your wrist pain. I hope it gets better soon.
I’ve always had good luck with Amazon and no issues doing returns when necessary. I agree about making sure that Amazon is the seller or that the actual brand is the seller.

Valerie-Great job with the walking and therapy exercises. The last couple of times we went to Target it was a bit chaotic and disorganized. Usually we find what we are looking for but not always.

Carolyn-Great job with Ramped Up Upper Body, Back and Chest only timesaver and KCM’s Cardio Fit, workout one. The whole wheat hamburger buns sound really good.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disk 21 Back and Biceps.

This morning I did Live Cardio Challenge Express and Stretch Max 1. Ended the stretch a few minutes early because Tux's help went from manageable to not so much and apparently he doesn't want me to share that because he's now going between me and my laptop and making my cursor jump spots.

Valerie sorry that the rain messed with your plans to walk. We're supposed to be getting a few days with sun, but so far it's only making short appearances.

Judy nice job with the rowing, yoga and mobility workouts.

Carolyn great job with KCM’s Cardio Fit.

Hi Diane Sue.

And now I'm going to give up using my laptop and go do something else. Ugh

did the drive to the "snowshoe" place this morning. no snow. none. usually there is 5-6 feet of snow this time of year but not this year . a few patches after we got off on the trail itself but not walkable. we went for an hour and that was it. yesterday I did all the therapy work. I will do that today too. it might burn off the clouds later but socked in this morning.

carolyn I made some focaccia a short time ago and froze most of it. so good with soup. whole wheat is much better tasting than the white store stuff. I have to keep myself in check or I would eat half the loaf.

the target here has added a grocery section. their check outs are NOT set up for it. they finally added some self check outs for people who bought 1-2 things and dont want to get behind people with carts full.

congrats Judy on hitting 150 with the peloton. thats a lot in a month.

therapy done for the day! my focaccia is about half whole wheat. I cant get it light enough with all whole wheat so I settle for middle ground. it has a lot of fresh rosemary in it and on top. I grow a bush on the deck but our 9 degree stretch might have done it in. too soon to be sure.

Today is my rest day. I went to the Farmer’s Market for the first time since mid December. It was finally mild enough for me to go there, but I didn’t linger. I only wanted a few items and I got those quickly and went on to indoor grocery stores-Sprouts and the Fresh Market.

Judy, nice job with Yin Yoga and Shoulder mobility. The recovery type workouts are very important.

Cathy, good job with Live Cardio Challenge and Stretch Max. I’m glad that you could get them done while your cat tried to participate.

Valerie, I’m sorry that you were not able to snow shoe. Great job with the therapy exercises. When I bake bread I freeze half, both to keep it fresh and to avoid temptation. Once it’s completely cool I slice it and just keep out enough for 2-3 days. It doesn’t take much of it to be satisfied when the entire grain is used in the flour. Focaccia is so good with soup.

Waving hello to Diane Sue.
