Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/27

Today I did Metabolic Blast, Double Standing + Floor Premix and I added on KCM Your Healthy Back. I really like the Double Standing Premix and will do this one again. It's starting to warm up here a little, but it's still only 12 degrees. It's supposed to get into the 40's by Sunday.

Deb-I'm sorry about your pain. It does sound like it's from shoveling snow. It was really scary to know the gas company was in danger of not being able to supply enough fuel to everyone with the extreme cold. There couldn't have been a worse time for them to have a fire. I remember the gasoline shortages in the 70's.

Valerie-That is horrible about insulin and other drug prices. $500 a week is insane! I agree that consumers are not being protected.

Carolyn-That's a good combo that you did today. I will have to try the Pyramid Pump Up Only premixes too. So many options with all the premixes in this series.

Hi to Lori & Diane Sue!

Have a great day!

Judy

Lori, I hope that you get some rest. Those extremely stressful times can really wear you down quickly.

Judy, I have never heard of things going wrong with gas companies and having to lower the gas usage for heating before. I do not like getting up and it being really cold in the house. It is good they got it worked out. I need to look at the Pyramid Pump lower premixes and see if there is one that eliminates the cross back lunges.

Deb, I am so sorry about the shoulder pain. Did you do some upper body recently and then the snow shoveling maybe made things worse? I have work up in the night with pain in areas that I could not remember doing anything to cause. I have done the same thing with babysitting grandchildren or picking them up from school. I tell my daughter I will pick up her children as long as the weather is not bad. To go to their schools I have to drive on some country roads with fields and the like. I remember when I lived out there and even during some heavy rains the fields filled with water and overflowed the roads. I do not drive in that stuff. When I did daycare for the grandchildren, after a couple of those incidences and having to locate grandchildren in the process, I refused to drive. A parent had to bring them to me if they wanted me to take care of them. Although one of them was when I left my grandson in a field to practice football and a storm hit and took out the power lines, our fence and totaled our fifth wheel. I was frantic not being able to get out and trying to locate my grandson. My daughter who was teaching finally found him. His coach had tried to take the boys home, but couldn't get through and took them home with him. No, I will not drive in it and I try not to feel too guilty. Crosswords are so much fun. I used to buy crossword books and keep them in the car for when I went to pickup grandchildren at different schools and there were lines to wait in. I kept pencils and colored pencils for them and they would do them as well. They often came back to the house and wanted to continue with it.

Valerie, I never played sudoku. I bought it for my oldest grandson because he liked to play it and did not like the crossword puzzles. Yes the drug prices are ridiculous. Insurance costs are crazy and they do not want to pay for as many things now. Every year I think maybe it will stop, but it just keeps going for the worse. It is wrong for insurance to drop paying for something that does not have other options for replacement.

Carolyn, nice workout choices today. I got out my 2019 Silver Script and medicare books to look over costs. Silver Script raised their monthly cost which made my social security cost of living increase nothing as I now get a lower Social Security check than I was before. Also the prices have increased some in the new formulary book. I was paying 34 dollars for the paquinel generic and it went up to 47 dollars. I am going to see if moving my prescription to CVS will make any difference as there seems to be a dollar difference between pharmacys. I have been getting my prescription from the Arthritis Center Pharmacy which I do not see on the network pharmacy list. Anyway, it is worth a try. I have always used Walgreens, but after the problems with them when I was sick, we have decided to use the new CVS store. It is easier to get in and out of anyway. At least right now. It is on a corner that has not grown up with businesses yet. high income homes on one corner and vacant land on two along with an older house that has been there for years by itself on a corner. I am sure things will keep building up out there. You can see planning around that and the road work they are doing is a kind of give away as well.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Pyramid Pump Total Body, the Up Only premix, 59 minutes, 275 calories. There were a couple of moves that I just did not do, ( any of the side plank ones), which was ok.

Carolyn, thanks for the info on the details on the Cardio Crush for Body Weight & Bands.

Valerie, kudos for doing Sudoku puzzles...I like them but get very frustrated on any that are beyond level 1 . Maybe your neighbor can benefit from that link I posted yesterday. It seems like the info provided are for commonly used prescriptions. I was expecting to feel something from the shoveling the next day, but it took over 48 hours to materialize. That is what confused me.

Judy, thanks for the info on the Metabolic Blast double standing premix. I think this is the only one I have not done yet, so not sure what is eliminated in that premix. I plan on doing it tomorrow, in its entirety, then see what premixes would be good. I always wonder how many people actually heed the call out to use less gas for heating.

Diane Sue, those places you described would not be ones I would want to be driving on in bad weather either. I feel bad that I could not help them with babysitting that day, but it was horrible outside and on the roads. They probably need me this Friday, but I am waiting to see what the weather is supposed to be like before committing. They did not ask me for yesterday, as it was bad I assume they found someone, ( sometimes a neighbor will help). Good luck with the prescription research. Wow, CVS is $20 higher...?? I wonder of you called them out on it if they would match the lower price of another place?

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Good morning. I spent about 25 minutes on the elliptical last night while dinner was in the oven. I wanted to preview a few of the new workouts, so stuck in rev'd up rumble. sorry to say, the sound track is too loud. I am further away from the TV when on the elliptical but I had to turn it to vocals only when I could not hear Cathes voice over the background. I will try again when I actually do the workout. seemed easier than what I expected. I didn't get thru the whole thing though. I did some of the ab workout. the first exercise is step outs. the position looked like I could bump my thigh where its still sore I skipped and did the others.

My neighbor switched to a different medicare supplement starting right now. I'm sure he looked into insulin prices before he switched. no guarantee that won't get tweaked during the year. maybe the drug companies have finally tried the price squeeze on too big a percentage of people to get away with this. it is hard to understand why we continue to let Big Pharma get away with this when every other civilized country has decent health care for everyone.

I have gotten pretty good at sudoku. I usually start at three stars, skip anything easier. they get easier if you do them regularly and have a method. I also like word Jumbles, crosswords. our paper carries the NYT puzzle and the LA times. I can do the first few days of the week but usually can't get thru the sunday one without looking up a whole lot of answers.

I didn’t do a workout this morning. I just didn’t feel up to it today. I had an appointment earlier and now I’m baking a pound cake for a Super Bowl party tomorrow. I don’t plan to go, but my husband will.

Deb, nice job with Pyramid Pump. I will choose an up only premix when I do the workout again. The Calorie Crush from Body Weight and Bands is different than what I imagined. Initially I didn’t think I would try it at all until I previewed it. I could easily see how it would work for me with low impact modifications and it’s only 8 minutes. I liked it.

Valerie, I have a friend who does Sudoku, but I can’t seem to get into it. I like word jumbles, and crossword puzzles. Rev’d Up Rumble is definitely easier than Cathe’s other kickboxing workouts which is why I did the Calorie Crush, Abs, or Stretch with it.

Judy, great job with Metabolic Blast double standing premix. I need to give that one a try. There are so many premix options to choose from!

Hello to Lori and Diane Sue.

I did the metabolic blast, sort of. I started at regular speed but quickly slowed it to 0.8. it isn't that hard, but a lot of fussy moves I find confusing. I'm someone who has trouble doing different things with arms and legs. I found it difficult. not 'out of breath" difficult, but even slowed down I could not get a lot of the moves right. like my rhythm is off by half, and when they are I will need to do this a few times before I can judge realistically. did the #2 abs and the triceps pyramid. I watched calorie crush but didn't do it. totally wrong bra for any serious bouncing. it was OK sound volume-wise. comparing it to ICE total body metabolic, I thought it was easier cardiovascularly, but fussier moves. I had to do ICE TBM a few times before I got all the things down too.

I crank thru Jumble and sudoku most mornings. different news papers may rank puzzles with different star ratings, so a 3 star here, might be a 1 star or a 5 star somewhere else.

This morning I did Cathe's Rock Out Knockout timesaver #1. I originally planned on doing the whole workout with the heavy bag bonus, but plans changed after I started. This was the cardio segment and the glove segment with warm up and stretch, 39 minutes, 302 calories, met 8.5, heart rate average 121, max 158, 3,231 steps. I also ended up skipping the planned stretch. I may do it tomorrow since it is my day off. My daughter called and wanted to go to lunch. My husband met us there on his way back into town. We ate at a restaurant off of the lake where you can look out at the lake.

Deb, my daughter mentioned good rx today too. She said she has so many patients that have thought CVS would be lower like I did, because the Silver Script sort of pushes them with their special extra care card and sort of what would seem a sales pitch for CVS but they say you do not have to use them. But, they were the highest. From my understanding looking at the pricing, there is a certain price range on some medications. I will research some more before I decide if I want to move my prescription because what I paid is less than most of what I saw there and we do not have all of those pharmacy's nearby. When I have appointments I follow the weather during the week, because I will cancel if the weather is bad. I refuse to go out.

Valerie, with a few times through you will probably get the moves down on this Metabolic workout as well, or maybe there is a premix with less of the fussy moves on it. Not all other countries have great health care. Many pay way higher taxes than we do so they pay for that health care another way. Their vehicle taxes are outrageous as well. Some countries have people that end up coming to the US to get the healthcare that they could not get in their own country. We do have more choices for ourselves than they do. I do not think there is a perfect health care program and with people making big money off of it, there probably never will be. I see way too many older people working in the stores and businesses that should have been able to retire, but higher insurance and prices have swallowed up a lot of people's retirement checks, if they have one, and social security sure is not going to take care of them.

Carolyn, do you think Rev'd up and Rumble is easier than Rock'm Sock'm? I always thought it was easy unless I did the blast with it. It seems like it is a bit more boxing oriented and less foot work.
