Pentagenarians & Beyond: September 27, 2026

Good morning. I'm feeling a lot better today. i really felt awful yesterday, a combo of the very difficult drive and sitting and bouncing for 13 hours. plus the UTI. i had a terrible night sleep too. i didnt have proof yet it was a UTI but i was quite sure. when i was a little kid i had a lot of infections but grew out of it by time i was 8 or 9.

Today I did Jane Adams Yoga for 18 minutes. Saturday was my rest day. My daughter arrived for a long weekend.

Valerie, I’m glad that you’re feeling better today. It sounds like you had a nice trip and visit with your friends.

Judy, great job with your Peloton walk and Peloton Upper Body.

Cathy, great job on Pyramid Pump Upper Body, Live Advanced Step Choreography, and LiTE To the Mat.

Hello to Shannon.

Field mice are always an issue in Montana. we have brought them home with us in our car and our truck. hidden somewhere in the engine or underneath somewhere. we put mesh screen on some of the vents to prevent it, b ut its not 100%. they can get inside the passenger area easily from the frame so its smart to catch them before this happens. this time after Dh had taken the camper off and parked the Ford 350 truck, Puss was busy working the truck from underneath. finally DH opened the hood and set Puss up on the top of the fender. he went right to work, walking around on top of the engine and reaching down wherever he could. ( truck had not been running and was not hot.) unfortunately no luck. mice can chew up wires and one time some rodent ate the bottom out of the windshield washer fluid container. cost several hundred dollars labor to replace it because it was hard to reach. we park in the garage when we can but the camper is way too tall to fit. we ended up setting up mouse traps instead but it was hilarious to watch him try!

Good morning, ladies. This is going to be a busy week with several commitments after work. Let’s see, I need to go clear back to Friday. Friday ended up being a rest day because I needed to get groceries and didn’t want to do it on Saturday. Saturday I did a six-mile power walk, and man was it hard. Sunday I lifted weights PHA-style. This morning I took some comp time (lots of overtime at work lately) and did a 5-mile power walk.

Power walking is an extremely inefficient use of the human body, LOL. I go as fast as I can, but I just hit a wall. I really pushed it on Saturday and then calculated my time and speed. A 15-minute mile, or 4 mph, is considered the beginning of power walking. I averaged 4.1 mph. I think I was going faster sometimes, but I just couldn’t maintain it. I can go faster on the treadmill, but of course the belt provides assistance, and it also offers a lot more give than a hard asphalt road!

Judy – nice work on all your workouts. You are very consistent, and it seems like you fit a lot into each day.

Cathy – Oooh, Live Advanced Step Choreography sounds fun! You’re so lucky that you can still do step. So, did you go to the zoo?

Valerie – Your drive home sounds awful, especially with a UTI. I’ll bet you’re glad to be out of the car! I’m sorry your back limits your hiking. I remember you’d do some awesome hikes when I first started posting a while back.

Carolyn – Your weekend sounds very relaxing with yoga and a visit from your daughter.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Fit Cardio Kickbox, no weights. That was 21 minutes, 135 calories burned, average heart rate 123, and maximum heart rate 158. Then I did Step Boss Chair Stretch for 16 minutes.

Shannon, great job with power walking and PHA style weights. I‘m enjoying having a relaxing weekend with my daughter. This is the first time since losing my husband in February and my youngest daughter in April that we haven’t been drowning in grief.

Valerie, that field mouse problem can become expensive when they chew through vehicle wiring. My husband had that happen on his truck several years ago.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Carolyn i know! as you probably found out it can cost thousands to get it all redone. just the windshield washer container was expensive because it's not easy to access and they had to take a lot of things apart to get to it and fit in a replacement. it was a hard milky colored plastic. we park inside the garage with all vehicles but when the camper is on the truck, there is no way. if we are camping somewhere. frequently used campsites get a healthy population of aggressive mice, and when it gets cold at night they look for warm places. Puss alerted us to a mouse being in there and DH saw it but it was deep inside the engine. haven't got him yet, but several mouse traps under the hood with PB.

unfortunately i found out this morning that my doc wont do the local anesthetic procedure because of the antibiotics. need to be 2 weeks out for him to do it. another delay. not what i wanted to hear but i had the sense to call before we drove to the office. we did a road ride on our regular trail this morning instead. 15 miles an hour 20 minutes. it was pretty cold, 50 degrees. with the wind chill it takes getting used to.

Shannon can you alter the course you walk to get in some hills instead of trying to go faster? first i will say i dont know anything about power walking. I find the up and down of hills changes my posture enough so i am happier and its a good workout.

Good morning, ladies. I have an event at work this afternoon/evening that I have to attend. I'm going to try to get in a little stretching before I go, but no promises.

Carolyn - Oh my goodness. I had no idea you lost your husband and daughter. That is just horrible! I remember your husband had health problems from when I was posting before. Was it just his time? Whatever the reason, it's not easy to lose your husband. How did your daughter die? I'm so very sorry.

Valerie - I had a mouse problem in my car one winter. Fortunately it didn't do any damage. But my word, the little monster stored GALLONS of acorns all throughout the engine. I opened the hood and put a fan face down in there so it was constantly blowing air and making noise all night. He left. We don't have a whole lot of big hills out here, but the route I take does have low, rolling hills. They make a difference, but they're not steep enough that I have to slow down, if you know what I mean.

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body, 41 minutes, 177 calories burned, average heart rate 115, and maximum heart rate 139.

Shannon, my husband had Parkinson’s Disease and my daughter had Metastatic Breast Cancer. My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015 but his condition really started to deteriorate last year. My daughter was diagnosed with MBC in March 2020 just at the start of the pandemic. She did well for a long time and was still working until March. Anyway, it has been a very difficult year for my family, but we are doing better.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Cathy.

Sunday I did LMR2 Balance Fusion, and LMR Restorative Yoga. Yesterday, I went to the zoo in South Bend. Beautiful day out, couldn’t have asked for better. I went home through Kalamazoo and stopped at my parents for awhile. Today I went to the local zoo, and it’s another beautiful day. Low 70’s and sunny.

Valerie I’m sorry you had such a hard drive home, so many stressful things to deal with. Hope you find your mouse. When I had Nick’s car over last winter, I got a new cabin filter before giving it back to him and it had an acorn in it. No sign of any others. ‍♀️

Shannon it’s great that you can get in such long walks. Here, I’m limited to the paths in the backyard. We get too much traffic out here to walk safely.

Carolyn that’s so nice that your daughter was able to come visit you.

Hi Judy.

I walk a lot most of the time. even now with the back issue, i try to get in mileage, just broken into shorter segments. shannon, we live on top of a hill. everything is down and then of course, back up. the road is a good workout on a bike. walking on asphalt made me more sore. when i walk in our yard like cathy mentioned, its quite steep but i can make small loops and go up and down for a half hour to 45 minutes as long as i repeat some sections. it works if time is short, weather is marginal or we dont want to drive anywhere. its mostly uneven soil, grass, weeds thru the trees. we have many many very big trees. we did not clear cut our lot. the trees keep the brush down, so walking is reasonably clear. there is nothing more unpleasant than walking thru a field of dripping wet nettle and blackberries! we run the mower over pathways so the grass/weeds arent too tall. the park we walk at is similar. the softer dirt surface is easier on your feet and joints but use what you have. i dont have to go that fast to get out of breath. each walk up the hill more than does it. as does riding up the hill on my mt bike. traffic is not bad in our neighborhood but the hard surface beats me up.

cathy we had to add some screening on the subaru on some vents. mice are so small they managed to get inside. our truck has picked up mice before too but if they get into the engine area there are a lot of places they can get into the cab. we keep a box of Kleenex in all vehicles. if something shreds up Kleenex in a pile, we know we have another mouse. i keep the vehicles vacuumed free of food crumbs, but mice will eat almost anything. fall is the worse time.

Raining a lot to day so will do an upper body workout soon.
