Pentagenarials & Beyond: W/B 8/2

Lori, funny that that first thought was make coffee :) Yes, with no power that is a problem. Instant in hot tap water or some cold brew would work. It seems we never realize how much we take advantage of electricity till we do not have it. I used to appreciate the fact I had a gas stove top and gas fireplace when we had so many storms in another house and several days without power. I was able to close off all but the main part of the house and keep it fairly warm with the fireplace when it was out in the winter. The several days was hot!! like 100 degree hot and humid. After that I had lots of batteries, back up power, and lots of flash lights. No way was I having the problems I had again.
2 weeks is not long. Hope you don't have too much clean up to do from the winds.

Valerie, it sounds like you had a nice trip other than the near accident. Some people need to stay off the road if they aren't willing to pay attention to what is going on around them. Glad you came out of it okay. I never thought about back pack stoves or camping stoves.

Carolyn, nice work with Walk Strong 3 and yoga today. It varies for me on workouts. I do like circuit workouts when I want to get both in at once and don't have a lot of time. Kelly has quite a few weight cardio interval workouts on Raw. Her new workouts have been shipped out so I should have mine soon. The egg weights are expensive. Kelly did give a coupon offer when ordering from the company linked to her website. They were about the same price as Amazon though. I just think the gloves and light dumbbells should work about the same and not that expensive. That is what I thought with X10. You can tell I have not done them in quite some time.

We have a lot of big trees everywhere here, and it used to be potentially a long wait to get power back after a a serious wind storm. most people are all electric here. Our camper has propane, also camping stoves that work inside, and a barbecue. we never invested in a generator. the worst part about long power out..no lights. it is dark for many hours during winter and lights are a bigger issue. I love cold coffee so I can be happy no matter what.
since the putrid disgusting casino is close, this area is higher on the priority list for clean up after power outs. unfortunately we have a larger number of idiot impaired drivers. drugged up before they go to gamble. just had a fatal hit and run at 3 am the other night a mile from here. Our "almost crash" is not uncommon around here now. more impaired drivers. casinos bring in the dregs of society and they congregate around casinos. we lived here long before the casino got built. it was very rural. I would NEVER buy a house anywhere near a casino. the tribal "police" patrol the area but are not very aggressive.

cathy I have heard about male cats marking their territory by spraying but never had one that did. we had one kitty who did not get along with other cats, but he was still a great pet.

Today I did Total Body Giant Sets. My time was 1 hour 6 minutes with 281 calories burned. My average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate was 150.

Our next door neighbor (the husband) passed away Wednesday. He has had a very difficult time the last two years with complications from diabetes. He was only 60 and his wife is around 58. I feel very sad for her. She tried so hard to motivate him and to keep a positive attitude, but he just seemed to give up. His was a story that I have heard much too often of someone ignoring a diagnosis of diabetes until it’s too late. He told my husband a few months ago that he wished that he had paid attention to his diet and continued to exercise, but he didn’t.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Coffey Fit Raw Your Moves #1 47 minutes (43 actual as I had to mess with my fitbit since 10 minutes in it said my heart rate was 65) 173 calories burned, heart rate 110/151, 2.182 steps. Gertie got sick last night. I woke up and my husband had come in and cleaned up. I am guessing either it was eating stuff she got from my grandson or that I had given her her Heartgard just before I went to bed. She just went and laid on her bed after I gave it to her. She probably should have drank some water with it. She has seemed okay the rest of the day today. I gave her rice this morning and we took her for a walk this afternoon and she seemed fine. I noticed on her receipt for her dog food from the vet that it said she needed to come in a couple of months for a thyroid check? I was wondering what that would be about. We did not discuss anything like that. Just that I should think about running more tests on her next yearly visit to make sure everything is working well as she is getting older.

Valerie, I would like to have a gas stove top, but I don't think there is a gas hook up in our kitchen. Everything is pretty much electric other than the gas fireplace and heating. It is too bad that the casino moved in after you moved there. I am not surprised that the tribal police are not aggressive with dealing with things.

Carolyn, that is too bad that your neighbor did not take care of himself. I never could understand why people let those things go until it is too late. Nice workout today.

Yesterday I did a Peloton ride and today I did a 2.5 mile run and a .5 mile walk.

Deb-I hope you are doing ok

Lori-best of luck with your move! I remember when we had a big power outage a few years ago. I ended up mixing instant coffee in with my muscle milk protein drink. I was so glad that I had instant coffee!

Diane Sue-I hope Gertie is ok. I got the Egg Weights yesterday. I like them so far. I wasn't sure I would get them but after I visited the site they sent me a 20% off coupon so that helped me decide.

Valerie-I'm glad you didn't have an accident. That sounds like a close call. I have problems increasing my running mileage too. I think I will be more successful if I stick with 3 miles max.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend

I think I would like a gas stove, but we have never lived anywhere a gas line was nearby and didn't go to the expense of adding one via propane tank. . my parents house had gas so I grew up with it, but that was the last opportunity. Hope Gertie is OK and just ate the wrong thing.

Carolyn that is too bad about the neighbor. I spent 15 years (diabetes) blood glucose monitoring and did a lot of teaching. you see firsthand how difficult it is for some. there are people who don't even try, but others who have more difficult disease to manage. my brother is one of those who doesn't even try. I am not on speaking terms with him anymore (power grab with the will) but he had already had multiple bad infections in lower leg and feet and had lost parts of toes. he's had T2 a long time and refuses to do anything except minimal meds. wont do blood sugar, doesnt watch his diet/ weight, exercise. I put a LOT of energy into showing him how easy it was to do and what the eventual outcome will be if he doesnt get control, but he blows it all off. it is a relentless disease if not managed. it won't end well for him. he's in his early 60's.

I like all dark roast coffee, instant decafe and regular. I contribute a lot of $$$ to Starbucks! I will be surprised if I get beyond that mileage too. I hope the impact of running will toughen up some connective tissue so I can do better in other workouts too. I'm being very gradual in doing it again.

I did burn sets bi's and Tris, and x-train abs today.

Here I am playing catch up again. Wednesday I used the workout blender on Legs and Glutes. Thursday was shopping and yesterday I did MMA Boxing.

Chester Fred is his own unique being. I found him along the road as a 6-8 week old kitten, and his best friend was our 85 lb dog. Scared the heck out of me that he would accidentally be a dog snack as he had no fear. Now he's scared of a kitten and when he saw her in the crate slunk out of the room.

Lori glad you got your power back relatively fast. In the 20+ years we've lived out here we've had too many 4-6 day outages. At one point, they redid the power station we are connected to and that helped. But, we are on the bottom of the ladder when it comes to priorities. Wow only 2 weeks to go! And yes, keep all your equipment. The Fit Tower folds down pretty small for travel and it goes together fast, so you could keep it unassembled at your new place and only put it together when you want to use it.

Valerie glad you were able to get away for a few days. Glad you missed that near collision. Yikes! Michigan has a LOT of casinos. Some of them generate a tour bus traffic because of where they are located. People can vacation and gamble. The hikes sound great. I've never hiked with poles, but then I'm rarely going up much elevation. When I'm in Marquette next week I'm really tempted to get up early and climb Sugar Loaf, it isn't that high, but the view is spectacular looking out over Lake Superior. My knee has no issues with up, but hates down, so I would go up the steep way and come down the windy, more level way. Also, thinking about stopping in Munising to do the falls and a trail through a marshland and then doing the 9 mile drive through Seney National Wildlife Refuge to see what waterfowl is migrating through. Figure I might as well take my time going home Saturday as that day will be my vacation for this year. Just hoping that the traffic isn't horrible going north on Friday as the boys have never driven that far and don't need the added extra traffic. Normally I don't go north on Friday or home on Sunday for that reason, but it was the best day for them to move-in.

Hi to everyone I missed. Playing catch up is rough and I need to just not have to do it. LOL
Carolyn I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor. Lifestyle diseases take so many lives.

edited to add: I did Kick, Punch and Crunch minus the high intensity section and was pleased to find I could still do the pikes on the stability ball.

pikes on the ball! congrats! I haven't done those in ages. I think I can still do them since I have been consistent with ab workouts. two ab things defeat me.. levitation holds and sit outs. I keep trying sit outs but cant get the position right. levitation holds are not possible.
cathy I like poles for a dozen reasons. going both up and down, they reduce knee pressure and stress. help hugely with downhill "braking". they involve your arms and keep them moving. my hands get slightly swollen when passively hanging but gripping the poles, moving them totally prevents that, plus a few extra calories get burned. they help with balance on uneven terrain. they help immensely with slippery stream crossings to feel the creek bottom ahead of you, and provide a 3rd and 4th leg. rocks in streams are often slippery, and you can make sure of water depth before stepping. on a brushy trail they push branches or grass aside. I've used them for 30+ years. I get adjustable length poles. make sure they shorten enough. we xc ski and need poles. my favorites are black diamond flick lock poles. the length adjustment is the best. between DH and myself we have gone thru a few sets of poles. you dont need to spend $200 for decent ones. I'm getting a new set after breaking a pole last week. good luck on the drive. we are finding weekend traffic is back to pre-pandemic levels.

sorry to hear MI has a load of casinos. here they are mostly tribal. what a total waste of time and money!

I want to print fresh worksheets for some workouts. I cant remember how to do it. can anyone remind me?

Levitation holds are definitely not a happening thing for me! Even at my lightest weight, I couldn't do more than a very quick baby lift. There was no staying up.

There are 26 Casinos in Michigan all Tribal owned. Interestingly, the 3 in Detroit are listed as State licensed so those are apparently not tribal. Some are huge and some are actually quite small. The one I drive by in Christmas on my way to Marquette only has one restaurant and no lodging. I never have gone to one, so I don't pay much attention. The tribe who runs the one nearest us in Battle Creek is very big on natural energy on their reservation and at the Casino. There's a long line of solar panels along the highway beside the casino.

Can't help you with the worksheets, it's been years since I printed anything.

I’m taking a rest day today. I was feeling a bit tired which tells me it’s time for a little more rest. I had my virtual investment club meeting this morning. Three of our members are still working in the school district that I retired from and are very stressed by the situation with reopening. It’s so hard on everyone.

Valerie, I can’t help with printing worksheets. I print pages from the user guides for the later programs and add lines to make worksheets. The print is large enough for me to see quickly during a workout. I have a compendium of worksheets that someone on the forums created years ago that I use for the earlier workouts.

Hello to Everyone and have a great day.

I'm just finishing up printing and updating my workout sheets. I dont use them for everything but mine were tattered, duplicates, a total mess. microscopic print on many of them. a lot more organized now.

Today I did Coffey Fit Real Raw #2 Cardio Hiit , 38 minutes, 196 calories, heart rate 125/165, 3,372 steps. I then did Raw Abs Finisher, 19 minutes, 38 calories, heart rate 98/127, 307 steps. Total time 57 minutes, 234 calories, 3,679 steps. I got Kelly's new dvds in the mail today so will be using them next week.

Judy, you got your egg weights pretty quickly :) Nice work on the workouts this week.

Valerie, I always liked having a gas stove top for cooking. It just seems to work better and you can turn it up and down instantly. Then I like an electric oven better than gas. I have had homes with one or the other or both. The house I mentioned had a gas stove top and electric oven. I haven't went out and purchased a cup of coffee in a very long time. My daughter has brought me some once in awhile, but she always stopped at a coffee shop on her way from her house. My grandson worked at one for awhile. None are Starbucks though. I personally don't think Starbucks coffee is the best coffee. I had some Pikes Place or something like that that I ended up throwing in the trash. We have a new drive through coffee shop nearby. It seems to do a lot of business. I think I have a link saved somewhere and some of the older workouts log sheets saved on my older laptop. Glad you found what you wanted. You could always take one that you have and scan it and make copies. If it has writing you might have to white out though.

Cathy, I think MMA Boxing was my favorite of the 3. I never liked the one with all of the jumping over tubing and stuff. Nice job on the workouts.

Valerie, I did shorter workouts the last 4 days and feel like it left me a little more energy even though my sleep is down.

I'd like to try a gas stove. have heard others say the same thing...... cooktop is best gas, oven best electric.
a lot of people think starbucks is over roasted and call it Charbucks. I loved it the first time I tried it back in about 1970 something, when it was one little store in the pike place market. who knew what would happen?? I love the dark roasted flavor. not for everyone, but I love it.

most of the work sheets I had were printed too small, written all over, etc. they were not worth copying. WAY too much to white-out. I found a compendium of most of the older workouts from about 2 yrs ago, thru about X-train. that was what I needed. I have decent print outs of newer ones.

did Rev'd up rumble and the Ab workout.
