Penagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/4

Carolyn I'm happy you liked that recipe. I love that one as does DH, and its so easy to make. I use a sheet pan with sides because there is some water released from the chicken/vegies that will drip in the oven.

got the water heater installed, and another run to Lowes to return the extra parts we bought but didn't need. then stopped and got labs done that needed a f/up. we got the water heater free, a direct exchange because the whirlpool failed way before warranty was up. not that hard to install but you need two reasonably strong people to manage getting water heater into/ out of truck and to/from basement. old one went back to Lowes. we are fortunate to be able to do this ourselves but it did take most of the day with the travel. had another appt this morning that got cancelled at last minute so will end up with indoor workout after lunch.

Lori definitely time to be careful with the virus. we have been careful about contacts this entire time and will continue to be. too bad more people are not cautious causing this thing to go on and on.

My sleep has went down more and more each night so I am dragging. Today I did Cathe Live 83 Crush It Low Impact, 35 minutes, 144 calories, heart rate 11/159, 2911 steps. I went bak awhile later and Did Walk Strong 3 Deep Stretch, 32 minutes, 32 calories, 70 steps. Total time was 67 minutes 176 calories, 2,981 steps. This was really a lot like Ice Low impact Sweat cardio. I did not use the mat. I hate trying to do cardio around a mat. I end up getting my foot caught in the silly thing. I also did not do overhead moves with the dumbbell even though they are light. My heart rate dropped out a lot on my Fitbit today.

It looks like lots of zoom classes tomorrow along with written and video work. The teacher was sick today and yesterday so we did not get lessons till this afternoon and scrambling to get it figured out and done since the teacher was not going over it. I did the first workout then checked for work or zoom. I went ahead and did the things we were going to submit later and went back to stretch and shower, then it got really busy. I heard on the news that they are talking about opening schools near the end of this month. I think short weeks dividing the classes to smaller groups with masks. I am not sure about the 6 year olds and young ones keeping masks on. Gosh, my grandson sits here at the table during zoom and his hoodie is pulled over his face or his head disappears inside the neck of his t shirt. He used a third of a bottle of my hand sanitizer yesterday trying to clean glue stick off of his hands after playing with it while I took a bath. My table, and bathroom had glue stick all over them. Oh, and my husband's end table was all sticky and suspect. Fortunately these are washable glue sticks. Yesterday was not a good day LOL I can look at some humor in it all, but at certain moments it is not funny. Like the marker on the wall behind the fort we built him with my puzzle mats and step bench. Today I realized a bottle of hand soap was emptied. Hmmm!. At least it is soap and his hands are clean. This helps get out of school work for awhile:p. I see other children doing stuff or being pushed to do work and think I hope this kind of stuff does not happen to the teacher. Probably not as bad as there is some sort of order in the day that is constant in a class with others doing the same thing. Plus interaction with actual live children in class is probably much more fun than an adult hovering saying here is a pencil and I need you to get busy.

Cathy, I had to laugh too when I read egg whites. I don't have any egg weights, I just use light dumbbells. I could use my handheld sand weights. Your walks at the zoo sound nice and calm:) Gertie is okay. She just had to get back used to being on leash and the fence not being there. She is happy now that it is finally up.

Carolyn, I have been lightening up on the workouts and shorter as well. Partly because of pain and partly because I am tired and do not have that much time. I bet that recipe will be yummy. I have not done much with recipes lately. I like to cook, but just have not put together ingredients for a particular recipe. I made a stir fry curry veggies from Taylor farms, but made my own curry sauce since theirs had sugar and carrageenan in it. I cooked up some chicken in the air fryer the day before and used some diced up with the veggies. That is as close to a recipe as I have been in a long while.

Valerie, I am not real good at taking an extended break. A day here and there and maybe shorter workouts maybe. Today was half stretching. Even if I get a workout in, I don't have a lot of time for the stretching that I need. I bet you are happy that you got your hot water heater installed. It is easier to use the Kitchenaid spiralizer than the manual one. Also it really requires picking the right shape and size vegetables to get the whole thing to spiralize nicely. When I use potatoes or sweet potatoes I need them to not be long and to be fairly well rounded evenly. Otherwise even with the Kitchenaid they hit bumps and things and then it may catch and be either off set or the end that sticks into the potato while turning will keep moving and dig a hole in it. I can choose pretty well. I end up with about a half inch slice at the end and I just chop it up and cook it. Carrots are something I have given up on spiralizing. It is too difficult to find a thick enough carrot to do that. I have tried and used what I got, but definitely too much work. I have used parsnips which are great when made in crispy spirals, but they are the same way in difficulty as carrots. Works awesome for apple slices and peels at the same time. Makes pies and crisps easy and quick.

Judy, I bet it will be nice to have a weekend off. I miss my husband having weekends off. I wish they would get someone hired so he can go back to his 3 day weekend that he had.

Lori, that is very thoughtful of your friend to get tested before visiting. I bet you are worried since someone from your work tested positive. I know that you will really enjoy the visit. So, are you working from home for now?

No workout today since I shopped and went to the dermatologist for a spot on my cheek. A few years back I had some pre cancerous sun damage and wanted to get this one checked out. It's just a sun spot-I asked him if that was another term for age spot and he looked a bit chagrined and said yes. New doctor as my old one left, and this one is a quite cute, 30 year old. :)

So yesterday, I rather screwed up my Fitbit for my zoo walk, but I pieced it together. I was interested to see that while the GPS included my drive home, because one of my oops was not stopping it, it did not add those miles in.

The Finished Step workout I created got me 55 minutes, ave bmp 129 and burned 264 calories. I knew when I did it, it would be a steep curve as I hadn't done some of those workouts in awhile. I've since gone in and edited it. I removed what I think was Athletic Step as it turned out to include drills, and I removed all the 5 second breaks I put in as they weren't needed. I had to skip the last one which was Body Max yesterday because I was running late. With the edits it's about 50 minutes long now.

Valerie when I shopped today I noticed that they had set of 5, 8 and 10 pound weights now, and more kettlebells, too, so maybe it'll get easier to find weights in stores now. Glad you got your latest water heater issue taken care of, wonderful you can do it yourselves, but what a pain.

Lori glad you had a good visit last weekend. So, you went back to work today. Good that your office is taking all the proper steps, but still unsettling to know it happened I'm sure.

Judy great workouts! Enjoy your time off.

Carolyn that's a great calorie burn for a short workout!

Diane Sue, so sorry to hear that your sleep issues continue, I hope you find a way to resolve them. I never use the mat when she puts it on the floor for cardio. Mainly because my legs are so short that I can't cover enough distance and it's really nothing more than a visual aid and I can get just as good a workout with it.

another seriously interrupted day. our appt with a outdoor landscaper got cancelled at the last minute by him. so I did the grocery shopping instead.... along with getting some propane tanks refilled. one tank needed to be recertified and that took a while, grocery story was crazy busy, and they have dismantled the one way aisle pattern, plus another store shelf reset making several things hard to find. when things get moved around, the overhead aisle signs need to get switched too. needed coffee ground. it all ended up taking WAY longer than expected. instead of an hour it took about 2.5. just frustrating. usually goes pretty fast that time of day. got home, unloaded and got dinner rolling. ended up with time to do stacked upper body premix, so went heavier on it, plus abs. one of those days!

cathy I have yoga mats that are bigger than cathe's, longer and wider. for a long time I thought I was being wimpy until I looked a little closer! diane sue, I also worry about catching a toe on the mat edge. I do those workouts on open floor instead instead of around mat edges now. I don't like doing things around edge of the step either for the same reason.
being sore and not sleeping sounds like it could be over training.

Judy its an easy recipe. I love the napoleon peppers. they are packed in a water base, not oil. I accidentally bought oil based ones once and didn't like them. they are mildly sweet. leftover sauce is good with eggs, or fish as well as chicken. Peppers are usually around olives and pickles and tend to be on top shelf. for me, a real stretch. I always keep those peppers in the pantry. Love them!

plan on riding this morning, leaving shortly.

This morning I did Cardio Party + Extended Stretch #1 for 49 minutes and 293 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 151. The Greek meal was delicious. There was a lot of prep work with chopping, mincing, and dicing, but the results were worth it. The chicken breast was even cut in cubes since it was cooked on skewers.

Diane Sue, nice job with Live Crush It Low Impact and WS3 Deep Stretch.

Cathy, great job with creating your own step workout. I can understand why you would edit out some of the moves from Athletic Training.

Hello to Deb, Valerie, Judy, and Lori.

back from the ride, 1 hr 42 min. nice. the trails close soon so this might be the last one until spring. we can still ride the roads but to prevent erosion, the trails get closed nov 1. there are some days open to hunting too.
carolyn, could you post a link to the recipe? If you liked it I probably would too and I even have a jar of greek olives begging to be used.

I envy you doing cardio party. I have watched it sometimes when doing something else and might eventually be able to do it. I am such a klutz on that kind of workout.

This morning I did Live Cardio Boxing Bootcamp. It's a good solid workout, though at the end when she was flipping between pushups and sit ups, I believe I told her she was insane for the pace. Ave bpm 130 which is high for me and 244 calorie burn. Then I did Step Box Extended Lying Stretch since that workout has a really short stretch at the end.

My parents went on a road trip today to get out of the house and stopped by for about an hour. We sit on the back porch masked. Nice getting to chat in person. Boys got together and went exploring in Nature tonight. The younger one loves that kind of thing, and it's really nice to see his brother getting out, too.

Valerie sorry to hear that you day got messed up yesterday. I hate when stores do resets. Though it does bring customers together if everyone asking others if they have a clue where something went. Like you said it just adds time and is so frustrating. Great that you still got in a good workout. Glad you had an enjoyable ride this morning. We all need to enjoy the nice weather we still have it. We hit 78 today, probably our last really warm day. I still have windows open. We've got a few more days over 70 and then we are back into the 50's.

Carolyn great job with Cardio Party! Fun one.

Hope everyone else had a great day!
