Peeps Check-in

Peeps:

Good morning! I was planning to sleep late this morning, but I am up with the chickens for some reason! It is still freezing in Texas. Brrr. Thankfully, it will warm up to the 60s by noon. That is still cold for this Southern Peep but tolerable.

My package from Cathe was delivered Thursday! I am looking forward to playing with my pretty pink stability ball as soon as I inflate it. I love the resistance tubing with the door attachment. I am very impressed with the strength and quality. The handles are soft and comfortable, and the tubing itself is stronger and "heavier" than the Danskin tubing I found at Academy. Even the medium tension provides a lot more resistance than other tubing I have tried. Cathe could whip some butts with these! I hope she films a travel workout someday. During the 2007 Road Trip, she taught a sculpting class with just bands and a stability ball. It was great! I am glad I ordered medium and heavy tubing. I may need to work my way up to the red one! I am satisfied with this for an inexpensive pull-up alternative. I do not want to invest in Cathe’s Power Tower until I see how my body responds to STS and make sure I enjoy it. Not to mention, I can do assisted pull-ups at the club.

I enjoyed my first Christmas party of the season at church Thursday night. The good news is that I did not overindulge. I ate around 6 bites of cream of broccoli soup, a small cheese sandwich with yellow mustard, and a few bites of several desserts. The dessert was too rich for my taste, and I left a lot of it on my plate! The tea was made with Splenda and was amazingly sweet. I hate artificial sweeteners, so I was not expecting to like this. The bad news is that the 6 bites of soup I ate was 6 bites too many! My game plan for the day was to eat light all day and make sure I was good and hungry for dinner. I did not have time to fix breakfast that morning, so I grabbed a Dr. Weil bar (and did not like it at all). Lunch was a whole wheat pita toasted and dipped in hummus. For my afternoon snack, I ate a few unsalted dry-roasted peanuts to tide me over until dinner. I was hungry, got caught up in the conversation, and ate without thinking. This was not restaurant soup, so I did not consider the possibility of MSG. It was not salty, but it dawned on me that I should not take a chance with soup. I stopped eating after 6 bites. Too late. I did not realize that cream of broccoli soup has chicken stock or bouillon in it (which is a hidden source of MSG). I basically need to avoid soups or casseroles unless they are made from scratch using organic ingredients (or Whole Foods soups). I puffed up like a microwaved marshmallow Peep again! Thankfully, the nutritionist I met with in February taught me how to recover from a food allergy crisis. It is time for my cycle to start too, so PMS bloat is part of the mix.

I am taking this all in stride. This is not "real" weight. I did not binge, and it is not possible to gain that much fat in a day. My cranberry lemon cocktail combined with plenty of water should flush it out in a week or so. I started to de-puff yesterday and feel much better this morning. So much for my plan to maintain and not gain during the holidays. I need to figure out how to deal with my food allergies and sensitivities in social situations. I do fine at home when I am in control of the ingredients. Social eating is more challenging because most people I know do not use organic or Whole Foods ingredients.

I am planning to meet a friend at the club this morning to jog in the pool and sweat out a few more pounds of bloat in the steam room!

Ellie, I am awake! I love Body Max 2. The cardio and weights premix is my personal favorite. I am sorry about your feet. I am feeling your pain. Soaking my feet in hot water and icing them after that helps me. Have fun at the birthday party. Happy birthday to your little rooster!

Karin, I highly recommend Cathe’s resistance tubing with handles. It is a great deal too at $13.99. I paid more than that for Danskin tubing a few years ago that is thinner and not as strong.

Wendy, one of my goals for 2009 is to learn to like sweet potatoes. I hate the mushy texture, but I like the baked sweet potatoes at Texas Road House. A friend told me that I should not wrap them in foil like regular baked potatoes. Do you have any other tips? How long do you bake them? What temperature?

Laura, where are you this week? I miss you! Robin and Catherine too!

Hugs and waves to Dani, Jerry, JJ, Judy, Vilma, and any other Peeps who visit today.

Blessings,
Heather B.

Hello Peeps and Good Morning Ellie and Heather!

Ellie
a 4am reminder ? Oh boy! LOL Sounds like your little guy is super excited about his day today. Try to find time for a nap if you can today and have fun.

Heather Good for you for not overindulging- I am so bad as far as eating during this time of year . All the triggers for me are out in full force so I make sure I have a water bottle with me at all times and keep a small apple in my purse just in case I am found outside of my house with food temptations. Its so hard.

That cream of brocooli soup yum.... I'm having issues with food that have hidden salt reason why I am always so thirsty and my hands feel tight. We went to a nice Greek restaurant earlier this week and at least there I was able to enjoy some nice salads and foods that didn't seem to have added salt but lots of different spicy condiments.

Whats your cranberry / lemon cocktail - Always nice to know if there is something out there to help the bloat

I hope you all have a great weekend Peeps I'm off to get started on my iTread Drills

G'morning Peeps:

I'm hoping to get in a kettlebell workout today. I have DH's company Christmas party this afternoon and I don't wanna go!:( He's the president and has to spend the whole time smoozing while I just hang around trying not to look stupid.

Ellie~ Go back to bed!! Oh my...I would be a mess if I had to get up that early knowing I was going to have a houseful of kids later in the day:eek: Hope the party goes well.

Heather~ From one puffy person to another....I hear ya! We had chinese takeout last night and that always bloats me up. I keep a pitcher of cranberry/water in the frig and it really helps to flush out my system. Have a great workout and enjoy the steam room. That sounds wonderful!

Vilma~ How do you like the iTread workouts? I just did my first one last week. It was #13 (I think) sprints with Grace. It was OK but its hard to compete with CC and Sean's dreamy voice.

Waves to all peepers who follow:D

Cranberry Lemon Cocktail

Peeps:

I am peeping in again to wave to Vilma and share my favorite cranberry lemon cocktail:

1 cup of water (cold for me)
a big squeeze of lemon juice (half a lemon for me)
1 tablespoon of pure cranberry juice (unsweetened and not from concentrate)

Just one cup of this upon rising every morning works wonders. The pure cranberry juice is expensive, but it lasts a long time. I like the Mountain Sun brand. Drink a gallon of spring water throughout the day. Warning! Try this for the first time when you are free to run to the bathroom every 20 minutes! Prepare to pucker up because this stuff is tart! Enjoy!

Hugs and waves to JJ! Are you sensitive to MSG? We can de-puff together!

Blessings,
Heather B.

JJ - I started out with the itreads but I do prefer Coach Sean over them hands down.

Cardio Coaches are just top notch all the way.

iTreads are good workouts and I find myself going very fast with them but nothing compares to Sean's words - He helps me get out of my blues and for that reason alone Grace and itreads can never compare.

I figured since I have them I should use them - I am now cycling through the ones I have at the moment.

Heather we were posting at the same time :D

Thanks for the recipe I have everything but the cranberry juice so I 'll be getting some today while on my errands in town.

I drink so much water that I think my body can handle it - well I'll try it out once I'm home for good lol just in case ;)

Peeps Check-in

Peeps:

I am peeping in for the third time today! I jogged in the pool at the club this morning and sweated out a few pounds in the steam room. I am taking another spontaneous trip with friends to Austin tonight. I am excited! We went on a Sunday night last month, and there was not much activity or live music. We are planning another trip to Whole Foods while we are there. Have y’all noticed that I do not plan my life more than a few hours in advance? LOL! I love my spontaneous friends! (I love my other friends too!)

Jerry, I just glanced at your thread in Open Discussion. I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but you can whip this! I was borderline before I started my fitness journey. Cardio works wonders! My blood pressure is excellent now. I am still morbidly obese (and hate that word), and my doctors are always amazed when they see my blood pressure. You need to check with your doctor about weight training as he knows your full health history. I just did a quick search online, and it appears that moderate weight training with more reps is recommended, but heavy weight training is not. It sounds like you were wise to cancel STS. Most of Cathe’s circuit and endurance workouts (like Muscle Max) should be safe. Check with your doctor to be sure. Straining to lift a super heavy weight for the last few reps is what raises blood pressure. Oh, I love Real Salt. It is less processed and more flavorful than table salt, and you only need a touch. Try adding it to the surface of your food at the table instead of mixing it in during cooking. You will need a lot less that way!

I need to fix my hair and hit the road! See y’all in the morning!

Blessings,
Heather B.
