Peeps Check-in
Peeps:
Good morning! I was planning to sleep late this morning, but I am up with the chickens for some reason! It is still freezing in Texas. Brrr. Thankfully, it will warm up to the 60s by noon. That is still cold for this Southern Peep but tolerable.
My package from Cathe was delivered Thursday! I am looking forward to playing with my pretty pink stability ball as soon as I inflate it. I love the resistance tubing with the door attachment. I am very impressed with the strength and quality. The handles are soft and comfortable, and the tubing itself is stronger and "heavier" than the Danskin tubing I found at Academy. Even the medium tension provides a lot more resistance than other tubing I have tried. Cathe could whip some butts with these! I hope she films a travel workout someday. During the 2007 Road Trip, she taught a sculpting class with just bands and a stability ball. It was great! I am glad I ordered medium and heavy tubing. I may need to work my way up to the red one! I am satisfied with this for an inexpensive pull-up alternative. I do not want to invest in Cathe’s Power Tower until I see how my body responds to STS and make sure I enjoy it. Not to mention, I can do assisted pull-ups at the club.
I enjoyed my first Christmas party of the season at church Thursday night. The good news is that I did not overindulge. I ate around 6 bites of cream of broccoli soup, a small cheese sandwich with yellow mustard, and a few bites of several desserts. The dessert was too rich for my taste, and I left a lot of it on my plate! The tea was made with Splenda and was amazingly sweet. I hate artificial sweeteners, so I was not expecting to like this. The bad news is that the 6 bites of soup I ate was 6 bites too many! My game plan for the day was to eat light all day and make sure I was good and hungry for dinner. I did not have time to fix breakfast that morning, so I grabbed a Dr. Weil bar (and did not like it at all). Lunch was a whole wheat pita toasted and dipped in hummus. For my afternoon snack, I ate a few unsalted dry-roasted peanuts to tide me over until dinner. I was hungry, got caught up in the conversation, and ate without thinking. This was not restaurant soup, so I did not consider the possibility of MSG. It was not salty, but it dawned on me that I should not take a chance with soup. I stopped eating after 6 bites. Too late. I did not realize that cream of broccoli soup has chicken stock or bouillon in it (which is a hidden source of MSG). I basically need to avoid soups or casseroles unless they are made from scratch using organic ingredients (or Whole Foods soups). I puffed up like a microwaved marshmallow Peep again! Thankfully, the nutritionist I met with in February taught me how to recover from a food allergy crisis. It is time for my cycle to start too, so PMS bloat is part of the mix.
I am taking this all in stride. This is not "real" weight. I did not binge, and it is not possible to gain that much fat in a day. My cranberry lemon cocktail combined with plenty of water should flush it out in a week or so. I started to de-puff yesterday and feel much better this morning. So much for my plan to maintain and not gain during the holidays. I need to figure out how to deal with my food allergies and sensitivities in social situations. I do fine at home when I am in control of the ingredients. Social eating is more challenging because most people I know do not use organic or Whole Foods ingredients.
I am planning to meet a friend at the club this morning to jog in the pool and sweat out a few more pounds of bloat in the steam room!
Ellie, I am awake! I love Body Max 2. The cardio and weights premix is my personal favorite. I am sorry about your feet. I am feeling your pain. Soaking my feet in hot water and icing them after that helps me. Have fun at the birthday party. Happy birthday to your little rooster!
Karin, I highly recommend Cathe’s resistance tubing with handles. It is a great deal too at $13.99. I paid more than that for Danskin tubing a few years ago that is thinner and not as strong.
Wendy, one of my goals for 2009 is to learn to like sweet potatoes. I hate the mushy texture, but I like the baked sweet potatoes at Texas Road House. A friend told me that I should not wrap them in foil like regular baked potatoes. Do you have any other tips? How long do you bake them? What temperature?
Laura, where are you this week? I miss you! Robin and Catherine too!
Hugs and waves to Dani, Jerry, JJ, Judy, Vilma, and any other Peeps who visit today.
Blessings,
Heather B.
