Paul Katami's Kettlebell dvd's

I have just ordered both of these because they look excellent. If you go to totalfitnessdvds.com you get longer clips to look at and you can see that this man is very creative with KBs, makes circuits with them rather than doing each move alone for interminable rep counts. So switching it up, with different approaches to the use of KBs is good in my book.

;)Hi Clare,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the dvd's I mentioned. I stumbled across him at collage video.com and kind of wondered because I did view the dvd clips and thought his form was excellent for kettlebells. I do have Lauren Brooks, Anthony Di Lugio (sp?) so I know great kettlebell dvd's can be expensive especially when done by RKC instructors. In my opinion I don't want to waste the money on those kettlebell dvd's out there that are not done by RKC certified instructors. I don't mean to sound like a snob but with kettlebells great form is absolutely key and I want to learn good habits not get injuries. I viewed Paul Katami's clips from his two kettlebell dvds and I gotta say it looks great and his energy just gets you and I love that there is enthusiasm. I know I'll be ordering soon, just got to wait for the cash to do it. Too many exercise dvd's on my wish list and so little cash. LOL!!

I'd still like to know what you think of the workouts once you get them because I noted you said you did order them. Have fun!;)

Thanks again Clare for your taking the time to post.:)

love PK!

Nora,

I only have good things to say about my new boyfriend Paul Katami! :p I have both of these workouts and really, really like them. Each is about 40 minutes long and delivers strength, cardio, core, and balance work. Each exercise is done for 30 or 60 seconds (measured by an on-screen clock), and the idea is you can keep up with Paul & co. or go at your own pace. I like that he provides modification and challenge options on many of the exercises. In addition to the main WO, both DVDs have a clinic (tutorial) and a bonus core section (about 18 min.), so it meets the needs of beginners and those already familiar with kb's. I find Kettlebell Kombos to be a little more challenging.

Overall: Good form, good cueing and sequencing, and I like Paul’s personality. He’s motivating and doesn’t “talk down.” Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s gorgeous. :D

The one thing that’s disappointing is that the individual WOs are not chaptered.

I just bought that DVD too, but I haven't tried it yet. I haven't bought a kettlebell and am just finishing up Meso 1 of STS. I'll probably use Katami's as my 4th workout of the week during Meso 2. So far, though, I haven't made it past giggling with my daughter over the goofy picture of him on the cover.

I have both DVDs and love them. In fact, I just finished Drills, so I'm sitting here making a puddle as I type. These tapes have excellent queing and good form. Both tapes provide a strength and cardio workout simultaneously, so you get a lot done in 40 minutes. I'm having problems with my feet so I have to lay off of HIIT, I'm using these tapes as a low impact substitute. I highly recommend them.

what size kettlebell are you using?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has tried Paul Katami's : "Kettlebell Drills" or his "Kettlebell Kombo's" Dvd's if so I'd love to know what your thoughts and opinions on these dvd's.

Here's a link: http://www.collagevideo.com/workout-video/video-5936

Thanks in advance!;)

I have both of his KB DVDs and they are excellent. His instruction is suberb and since he does everything in 30-60 second increments, the workouts seem to fly right by! I torch a ton of calories doing his KB DVDs! They are worth the money IMO!

And just to enable people a teeny bit more, history has shown that these Paul Katami KB workouts are hard for totalfitnessdvds.com to keep on the shelf. They keep having to be re-ordered. If something sells like hot cakes, that's quite a recommendation right there!

totalfitnessdvds.com offer free shipping with orders over $25 and she will give you a coupon worth 10% off your next order. So I always get more discount with Mary than with collagevideo.com.

so... these are more lightweight kettlebell workouts? the descriptions say moderate, but weight seems to be different for kettlebells. I have a 20lb one, would that be too heavy for these?

I use a 15, which is the smallest I own. I feel comfortable with that weight and am plenty challenged. But 20 might be a lot to start with...

I was wondering the same thing. In the video clips it looks they are using lighter kettlebells. Does anyone know what weight they are using? I don't have a lot of experience with kettlebells yet. I mostly use a 15 and sometimes a 20 for Lauren Brooks volume 2. From looking at the video clips I don't think I could use a 15 for Paul's workouts. Does anyone have an idea of a typical weight to start out with for his workouts?

Thanks!

I don't have his workouts but I have seen the clips on Collage. I have been working out with kettlebells for almost 5 years and I would recommend going lighter on his workouts. They seem to involve many compound movements that also include some over the head movements. Based on this, I wouldn't go any heavier than 20 pounds. Actually 15 pounds might be better for some of the moves.

I have kettlebells that range in weight from 14 to 52lbs and I would probably use my 18 pound bell (I have 14, 18, 25, 30....). I might be able to use 25 pounds but I wouldn't be able to sustain it on some of the overhead movements.

From the clips, his workouts seem to have a more cardio feel, in that case I would go lighter.

I too will be an enabler......These dvd's are great!!! Great form, hard and fun at the same time. Great instructor!!

I think I will get the Kettlebell Drill DVD to start. I recently purchased an adjustable kettle bell but the DVD that came with it was defective. The reviews I have read on the Kombo DVD were not as good as for the kettle bell drill DVD.
