Party Rockin' Step #1 - Review

Review of PRS#1: I conquered my fear and went straight to the more complexly choreographed PRS #1 video. I sailed through the warmup and combo #1 without issue. I broke a sweat by the end of combo #1. There were tricky parts to combos #2 & #3, but they were doable. Had I previewed the workout, I think I would have been able to do them without a problem at all. I was sweating steadily at this point. Combo #4 was trickier yet and I had to stop to watch what Cathe was doing-primarily because my back was to the TV for some of it. I noticed that she started throwing in some power 7s to keep the heart rate up in case anyone got messed up on the tricky stuff and ended up watching. Combo #5 is going to take some practice! Frustrating, but I will get it soon. She took some mercy by Combo #6 as it was a bit simpler than #5. The challenge at the end was not one, but two run throughs of all 6 step combos. I was tiring out as this was a second workout today, so I spent some time during the challenge watching while just basic stepping to make it easier next time. Then a stretch and done! My shirt was pretty sweaty by the end, but I wouldn't call it a complete soaker. This step video reminds me that Cathe had unique talent when it comes to step, which is where she got her start. Her cuing is excellent (nothing but practice and patience will help me with combo #5-it's not a cuing issue), her rhythm and timing are impeccable, and the music seemed just right for the personality of the routine. I couldn't spend much time looking at the cast because I had to focus on not having 2 left feet, but from what I could absorb, everyone was in sync. The Feelfitwear outfits look nice as usual and the blue Ryka sneakers matched the workout clothes-nice touch.

I'm planning to do this one (or part of this one, since I most likely won't be able to do it until 8:30 or so) tonight. I'm so excited for a new Cathe step workout!

step #1 review

Sorry to say, I had a terrible time w/ this one this morning. I'm an advanced stepper and enjoy flying around the step...but the combos in this seemed a bit awkward and sometimes unsafe. It wasn't ALL horrible but if you miss a step you could easily trip and fall. I think the cueing was sometimes being said AS you were doing it. I adore Cathe and firmly believe she consistantly delivers a superior workout. I'll just have to do this again and again to see if my opinion changes. I'm not a quitter! But party rockin step #1 just didn't float my boat, maybe next time. On a positive note....I did sweat and I liked the music!!!!

I'm going to be trying this one hopefully tomorrow. I was going to do it later today after lean legs. But I had to do a lot of yard work and here in FL, it's still 90+ degrees out and now I'm wiped out after an hour of yard work. I'm glad to here the reviews and I previewed it yesterday, so I'm hoping all goes well. I hate to bring this up with everything going on, but I wonder when they will have the new workouts in the workout manager? Well, no matter when, I'm still enjoying the workouts I've done so far and will continue to do over the next week. Thanks Cathe for more great workouts.

I'm going to do this one playing my DVD at 80% of normal speed. Its so much easier to learn that way, and the cueing is more in advance of the move that way also, so better for learning. I have a Sony inexpensive DVD player and just love the fast play/slow play option on it.

Bethj, How do you get to play 80%? i wonder if i can too. i did ok except combo 5. Then , when it came time to put it altogether, I couldn't do it. i had a total brain freeze. i agree with the other post about some of the moves seeming unsafe. I think if i were moving a little slower, i would feel safer. that being said, i did not have any issues of actually tripping. sorry about the lower case. Sine ios7, my caps button is hit or miss.

Your DVD remote should have a fast play/slow play button. You just tap the button until it shows the desired speed. If you don't have that button, you may not have that capability.

So is there no breakdown of the moves on this one? If not I will have to watch this one a few times just based on the clip.

I wonder how Cathe determines when she will breakdown the moves on some videos and not on others?

I'm sure I will be able to learn it but noticed that on the many DVD's I have, just curious really.

There isn't much breakdown. At most, she gives you a simpler option for some moves that you can continue doing if you get tripped up on the tricky moves. Good luck!

Most of the combos are fairly short with just two segments. Number 5 is the trickiest. I think you will be able to get it. It is not like step blast. I like step blast but I do not like the going over and over of each little segment before putting it all together. So for me, this dvd is great.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I think Cathe gives great cues and alternatives to some of the moves. I found combo 5 not that bad once I got the count down on my own, because I don't like all the spins. That's the only combo I changes on my own for that part only. I found the end with all combo together a bit challenging because of it being a new workout, I wasn't always sure what came next. But I'm sure that the more I do it, I'll remember better like all of Cathes olde ones. I cannot wait to try the step #2 in a few days. Later will be Flex train!!!

I just finished PRS#1 and loved it! I did the finished product twice. This is going to the top of my step list! I found the combos very easy to learn and the sweat factor was just right. I love when my brain needs to be engaged while I'm sweating it out! Cathe seems really happy in this series, love the energy!

I like the way she just throws the moves at me....It's a challage at first but if you do the workout alot the breakdowns get boring...me likie alot...good one Cathe!

Love love LOVE!!! I'm going with this is my favorite step workout ever. I love complex choreography and this one rules! Call me crazy but I've done it the past three days. Today was the day I perfected it. Combo 5 is my favorite now that I've got it down. The music is all great but especially in that combo. I really like the music on the stretch segment too. Cathe went above and beyond on this one. I was most looking forward to PRS#1 and it exceeded my expectations.

I did Party Rocking Step #1 yesterday. I loved this workout. I also found a couple of tricky spots in combo 5 and there were a lot of spinning moves. But, I was able to catch on pretty quick and I think I will be able to master it after a couple more times with it. Cathe is the best at step! Loved it!!! Looking forward to trying more of the new ones.. Thanks Cathe...
