p90x vs cathe

Okay for those of you who have done p90x and cathe, I've never done p90x I wanna try something different been doing cathe workouts since 2005. My question is can you go from doing cathe to p90x????

Yes, you can. Lots of us have done it. You may find that you need scale weights a little or use some substitutions/modifications at first for some exercises, but going from one to the other is completely doable.

Modify and scale and don't get intimidated by what you see them doing on-screen.

Try doing a search and P90X and you'll get a lot of hits that might help.

Okay but it sounds like your saying p90x is more intense than cathe? or no

IMO - NO I think Cathe is tougher. I have done P90X and remember missing Cathe during that time. I finally subbed her cardio in rather than Tony's. That's just my opinion though, you may feel that P90X is harder.

Not Gayle... P90X is as intense as you push yourself when it comes to the weight work. You are lifting based on what is heavy for you. For the most part, the tempo is based on what you can do within a certain time. In the X, you don't work one body part to total exhaustion. For example, all the bicep exercises aren't one right after another. I've found Kenpo and Legs&Back got more intense as the rotation progressed!!! Plyo was always intense for me. For others, it isn't. Intense cardio isn't the number one priority or focus, especially for the classic rotation. Just my opinion.

ETA: Perhaps Gayle is referring to the chin-ups/pull-ups/push-ups. Modify on those if needed. Your reps will increase as the program progresses.

Exactly. Some people get scared off by the number of chin-ups/pull-ups/push-ups...especially since Chest & Back is one of the first workouts in the rotation.

That is said just beautifully!
Let me add that X can "seem" harder than Cathe if you have only ever done Cathes endurance work... The X is not about endurance - its about either hypertrophy or strength...There arent any 24-32+ reps in the workouts...Everythings 8-10 or 12-15 based on your goals. (except a few that are max reps/16 reps)

Thanks for all your info. I just did a forum search and came up with lots of info. I just want a change something different. The commitment sounds great. I do follow rotations (FitnessFreaks & Cathe's) but just a change of scenery. Plus it has the nutritional plan. Thanks again guys I will be ordering p90x!!!!

Hey Jess! I absolutely love P90X. In some ways, it's tougher than Cathe. I find that I really pushed myself a LOT harder on the weights than I ever did w/ Cathe. Now going *back* to Cathe, I can lift a LOT heavier on her workouts!! I also could NEVER do chinups/ pullups before P90X. It really gave me a ton of strength & definition in my upper body like nothing before. The cardio is not as intense (except maybe Plyo) but you can sub in Cathe cardio (Kick, Punch, & Crunch or KickMax for Kenpo, etc).

Please send me an email if you have any questions! You can click on the link in my sig! Take care!

I also agree that in some ways its tougher than Cathe. Even though Cathe does a lot of pushups, I did so many more in P90X in so many more variations. I feel I pushed myself harder with P90X and that I could because it's a push-pull method whereas with Cathe, most of her stuff is doing each body part to exhaustion. The toughest part of the X is the chinups and pullups. It takes a lot of strength to do them and again, he does lot of different varieties. I find P90X Abs/Core Plus to be tougher than Cathe's core work and I like it because he does hanging, standing, sitting and lying abs. Like Jess, I could also lift heavier once I went back to Cathe. I also agree that his cardio is not as intense but I think of it as more of a strength training program.

I haven't done P90X. I was going to order it when Cathe announced STS so I decided to wait and get Cathe's instead. So, have you considered preordering STS? It's supposed to be ready to ship around December so you'd be finished with the first rotation right around the beginning of tank top season. ;)

i find the way he does upper body safer than cathe and more effective. working one body part at a time,3 sets like cathe can cause more stress on the shoulders. he does i set of each body part and repeats.
