RunninTeach

Cathlete
Hey there, everyone! Happy Saturday :D

A break for the legs today – I still have some faint remnant of DOMS going on in the tushy, so the rest will be appreciated. Later, it’ll be CTX chest, back, and shoulders.

Wendy:: cracked up about the “Am I weird?” comment…Nope, I’m right there with ya. After LL yesterday, I was sopping wet and had to change my shirt before the run… I know, I know ~ I’d just start sweating as soon as I got out there, but I was just too drenched to be comfortable…It could be the shirt, too...It's a new Nike one and the material's a little weird...Good luck in today’s race! Looking forward to your race report. :D :D :D

Diana:: who is Ms. Fit?…I am doing the Aug. 04 Body Fat/Legs & Glutes…Holy moly ~ 45 lb. barbell curls!!!! You ROCK! :D

Angie:: CONGRATS on the 2 lb. loss :D :D :D. Now how ‘bout you come over & shake some sense into my scale??…Maybe it was the zig-zag of the calories…Yeah, I have to say, I just don’t care at all for complex choreography or workouts that feel danc-y…1) b/c I do not have the coordination, and 2) it just brings to mind Jane Fonda or Olivia Newton John for me – and that’s not to insult the folks who enjoy step. I guess it’s just not my style. One of the things I really appreciated about Tony is that no one moved in sync. Everybody was just working hard at his/her own pace. I *do* do a little step – like in DM – it’s simple enough for me to catch on for the most part or at least “look busy” doing my own moves at times. *lol* I know people say they can pick it up if they study, rewind, and practice, but I’m often so busy with other things, that I just don’t want to invest that much time in it. Who knows, maybe over time, I'll learn to like it...I have one more week on this rotation…Bounce a quarter off my butt?? *lol* I wish!…Thanks for the tip on deepdiscount ~ those are great prices. Of those you mentioned, I only have JL’s Get Ripped Slim & Lean and Get Ripped to the Core. I have done each of those maybe twice. They’re not bad at all – they just don’t find their way into my rotations. There are things about her w/outs that I like (ex: how the screen will show the weight amounts everyone is doing, being able to view the exercisers from different angles, that they are good workouts in and of themselves) and things that grate on me. Jari, to me, is a little annoying. I can get past the fact that she looks like Skeletor Barbie, but the constant yammering about how many carbs you’re burning and the hollow pep-talk stuff works me a little.

Hi to Laura & Nancy, if you're out there!

Hi P90X buddies!;-)

Happy Day!! DH has gone fishing and he was supposed to take the boys but it's raining. Actually they were supposed to go to a tractor pull then go fishing after the pull, but the pull got rained out and DH thought the kids would get too bored being in a small fishing boat all day. He's probably right, but I was really looking forward to a day all to myself. Oh well, I really don't have anything planned for today except for to finish my book and I'm near the end so it won't take too long. After that, I really should do cleanmax b/c I'll have a garage sale in August and I need to get things together, marked, and ready to go. Which means, it's time to go thru the boys rooms.}( x( They're not looking forward to it, nor am I. LOL!

The boys and I went biking yesterday for a change of pace with my cardio. We just rode to mom and dads house on the lake which is only about 4 miles away. The trip there only burned about 135 cals b/c it is mostly down hill. The kids stayed there and swam and I came back home and burned double the amount of cals. Then I added on CM section 1 and a stretch. I kinda felt like it was an easy w/o but my bottom sure does hurt today. I think it was from the seat though since I don't ride the bike very often.:7 Today is supposed to be Bootcamp, but I just did that one last week so I may substitute. I read the new blog update and am so excited for Cathe's new w/o. I only did KM once and I know I have it in my garage sale bin b/c I didn't like it, but I think I may drag that out and try it again. Everyone just raves about it, so I feel like I'm missing something. Now I just gotta do it again and give it another shot.

Cathy - I think it will be pretty lonely in here today.:( So, do you do RS or SB or do you just steer clear? My first Cathe video was Allstep, and I almost passed on Cathe b/c of it. I was so damn mad at that video. I was doing Kathy Smith and Gin Miller before that and the choreo is nowhere near as challenging as Allstep. I was really glad I stuck with it. I found out later that AS is NOT a good video to start with. LOL!
I'm so glad to hear your input on the videos. LOL on the comment about skeletor barbie *LMAO*! That description is right on!:D So, you think it's worth a flat $8.25? Which of the 2 w/o would you recommend?
As far as the scale goes, just look really mean before you get on. It seems to scare the scale. Next week when I'm hopefully feelin like my normal self, the scale might then decide to deliver the bad news. Honestly, I really didn't feel like I deserved it this week. Isn't it weird how that happens?

Wendy - Good luck on your run! I hope you're getting good weather for it.

Diana - Ummmmmm, your making me think that I need to get some more weights for my barbell. I only have 25# for my barbell.:( I hate the barbell for some reason. I much prefer free weights, they are easier for me. But, easier is not better - someone please get that thru my head! LOL! I also need to get 30# barbells for Cathe's new routines. I looked for them in walmart a couple of days ago and of coarse, they didn't have them in stock.}(
So, how was the body step class?

Time for another cup of coffee and some cheerios. I'll be in and outta here all day since I really don't have a plan of action today and I just can't stay off Cathe's site.;-) BBL!

Angie

CTX chest, back, and shoulders are out of the way. A quick post here & then I've gotta get ready to meet a friend for lunch & a movie. She & her husband moved to Florida a couple of years ago, and while she does come back up here frequently to visit her kids, we tend to lose touch & often can't get our schedules together. So it'll be nice to catch up.

Angie:: Rainy days are perfect for curling up & reading, aren't they?...I have to say, I do like KPC more than KM - but KM grew on me over time. I just love adding the KM cond. drills after a run...I've never even *looked* at RS or SB...Imax 2 was one of the first ones I started with, and I quickly said HELL NO! and sold it on eBay...I think Basic Step + Cardio & Weights came with my step, but I gave it to a friend sight unseen b/c I had no intention of fooling with that step. Oops. Probably shouldn't have done that...Ooh, I'm jealous! I love biking outdoors - but I don't ride anymore, don't own a bike anymore either. Where I live, traffic is thick and it's just not so pedestrian-friendly. I love visiting my fam in Germany, though, because I bike ride almost every day. I just love that aspect of the culture - which is throughout Europe, really - of riding your bike regularly - to the store, to a friend's house, to a beer garden :+ ...I do think the Jari w/out is well worth having in your exercise library. When Wendy gets here, I'm sure she can give you better input b/c I know she has done them much more than I have. It's been a while since I've done either of them, so my comments are really only general.

OK, gotta run. Wonder where our speedy cheetah is with her race report??

Ciao!
Cathy :D

LOL...I'm here I'm here. I just stopped by after eating something to read a bit but I'm pretty tired so I'm gonna go lay down for a bit. I'll give the report in a bit when I wake up and have a little more "oomph" in me! I will tell you though that this was not a race for time. I took it easy pretty much the entire race and my time showed it. That's okay though cause that's what I wanted. :)

Good Morning Ladies,

I thought the bodystep class was really fun. Then again, I really enjoy stepping. I posted a link in yesterday's check in so you can check it out if you like. My bootcamp instructor is trying to become certified for bodystep and needs to film herslef teaching a live class. With bodystep you are to keep your core tight at all times, and stay close to the step. All the propulsion moves are up off the step, it really focuses on height. They also have numbered routines so next week's class will be the same exact moves again. Kind of like doing a video over and over again. Then in about 3 months they have another one with new songs and new moves.

Today I need to do a cardio workout and Quads, Calves and abs. I'm actually thinking about doing GS legs. Of course that's not really a heavy workout, it definitely works the legs.

Cathy-I didn't know you were zig-zagging calories. How is that working for you? Do you use fitday or another site to track your calories etc. I've been tracking on both fitday and weight watchers. Ms. Fit (karen sessions) is female bodybuilder who offers online training. She also provides meal plans including ratios for protein, carbs, and fat. Here's her website http://www.theelitephysique.com/

Angie-I think it's great that you went bike riding with the boys. When my boys were younger we would ride bikes on the weekends or they would rollerblade while I ran. I miss those days. I think we have a lot in common ms. angie. I also love RS, SB, and AS. Kickmax isn't my favorite but I do pull it out occasionally. It has some nice premixes. I prefer KPC over kickmax. Imax 3 is another one of my favorites.

Wendy-How was the race?

Time to get started on laundrymax and cleanmax x(

Have a great weekend girls.

Good afternoon ladies

Sounds like we all have a busy day goin'on.;-) I haven't gotten to my book yet since I got struck with "the mood" for cleaning after my cup of coffee. I think it was the combo of the rain, realizing that I had a lot of cleaning to do for an impending garage sale, and my java. Gotta love the java!!! I've been going thru my closet in the spare bedroom.}( ;( I still have baby, toddler, and maternity stuff packed in boxes in there. Ummmmmm....that stuff is definitely going on the garage sale! I kept a few outfits that I LOVE so that I can pass it on someday. I am such a pack rat. It's a hard habit to break. I also got rid of about half my scrubs since I haven't used them in years and have my doubts I ever will. I really should get rid of them all, but ya never know. I know, I have an issue...with the pack-rat demons. }( Maybe next time I go thru the closet I'll be able to get rid of more. I also have a lot of hand made quilts and blankets that I will never use. But how do you get rid of those things when family members gave them to you? Especially ones that were made by grandmothers who are no longer with us? OY! So, back up in the closet they went. :7

Cathe - "hell no" to IMAX 2??? You crazy girl!! LOL! It is my absolute fav - can you tell? LOL!
I really should get KPC. I hear so much good stuff, but I really don't like kickboxing. Do you have to be a kickbox fan to like it?
I just read an article in the paper that a local railroad, which is only about 3 miles away from us will be "re-topped" for a recreational trail. I'm hoping it will be a good bike trail. That would be great! I really don't like to bike on our road with the boys much either b/c it is so busy in the summer b/c of the nearby lake. I would much rather bike by myself so I don't have to worry about them. But, I figure that they need to learn how to do it someday....and I want to make sure they are being safe.
I would love to go to Germany!:) How often do you visit? Beer gardens????? Yup - definitely my kinda place! LOL!!

Diana - Yes, Ms. Diana - I think we do have a lot in common. I chuckle sometimes when I read your posts b/c I can sooooo relate. :)
Do you think you will keep doing the body step class? Seems like it would get a bit boring after a while? Maybe doing it in a class format would be different though.
So, what is Jarod doing now that he is back?

OK - back to the basement. DS just walked by and accused me of stalling......can you believe that???? :D LOL!

Hey Girls!!

I'm Back!!!! We had a good time and the weather was great. We really missed the heat wave. It was so much cooler down there. We had to leave the beach some days because we were so cold. I'm glad to be home though. No place like home. Two weeks down the beach is a long time. I went through four books and watched a ton of movies. I get restless after a while. We all have great color. I know....we're bad!!!!! We only brought down light weights and did some endurance exercises only. (PH, LL, etc.)

I'm doing cleanmax too, Angie. What else is new??? I just came in from washing all of that salty air off of the car. It was filthy. I usually just go to a car wash but I really just felt like doing it myself and playing with the hose, lol.

I have a lot to catch up on. I'll be back later or tomorrow. I took my mom home with me for the weekend and gave her live-in the weekend off. My brother and his wife are coming by later so I have a ton to do.

Okay, have a good day!!!!!!!

Nancy

The race...funny story...I left the house a few minutes later then planned. I drove to the race with my friend so I went to her house and we took her car from there. We had a little issue finding the place which took a few extra minutes and then it was HORRIBLE to park! We drove around for a good 5-10 minutes to find a spot and then had to walk almost a mile to get to the registration tent/start line/etc.

Well, we asked this guy where the registration area was and he told us it was by the start line. Turns out it was several blocks back from where we came from so we had to run back and forth. We were literally RUNNING cause we were sooo late we were afraid we weren't going to make the start of the race! I broke out in a sweat running back and forth! Once we were bibbed up by friend had to use the bathroom so she told me to go ahead and she'd look for me. Worse case scenario was that we were going to be along the beginning of the race route and would jump in when the runners passed us. Well I was able to get in line and she followed a few minutes later.

The race ended up going off almost a half hour late!!! That is the ONLY reason we made it! Then we couldn't remember where we had finally parked the car. We were so worried about getting to the start on time that we never looked at a street name or anything! LOL It ended up not being bad though as my friend recognized a landmark right off the kick but between walking to the race area and the running back and forth pre-race and then walking back to the car post-race we HAD to have added an addional 2 miles of walking/running on to our day. LOL

Now for the actual race...It was probably the biggest race I've run in yet! We were seeing bib #'s into the high 2000's! As we were running (near the back of the pack), after everyone spread out a bit, we could see the direction we were headed in probably atleast a mile ahead of us b/c of all of the people in the race. They looked like a bunch of marching ants they were so far away! LOL It was a nice flat course but it was HOT. Not a lot of shade although there were several towns people nice enough to have their hoses or sprinklers out for us. That is my fave part of summer racing! We took it slow. I only pushed up the speed a bit at the end when I could SEE the finish line very near to me.

I was wearing my garmin and did not start it until I got to the start line (since I'm slow and was at the back of the line). At the 5 mile mark it was 55 mins 7 seconds. At the finish line (5.07 miles) it was 55 mins 48 seconds. I looked at the official clock when I finished but can't rememeber the time and am really not concerned with it. I know what my 5 mile time was. I averaged just over an 11 minute mile. Like I said, it's on the slow side for certain but I wasn't in this for the speed today. They had snacks post race so I grabbed myself a water, a plain bagel and a peice of watermelon. YUMMY! Then I even got a cup of coffee as they had Dunkin there as well!

Hey again.

My plans for this weekend have changed a bit. Originally I was supposed to spend the night up in North Jersey but now we are coming home after dinner. This means that I will have time to work out tomorrow before we head up to DH's mom's house for dinner so I can do GSBS&B timesaver tomorrow! I will rest on Monday and begin my new and final week with the Pyrmids on Tuesday.

Hope everyone is having a good day...I have to get ready to jump in the shower now. We are leaving here in like an hour.

BBL!:)

Hi again girls

Another cleaning break!;-) The spare bedroom is done! There's a lot of cob webs that wound up in my dyson. It's been forever since I have been down there and it looked like a room in draculas castle.}( Thank god for dyson!! I would actually sleep there now. LOL! I also found my KM DVD in a garage sale box and put it back in my collection. I'm tempted to try a premix today in leiu of BC but I haven't quite decided yet.

Nancy - WELCOME BACK!!:) ;) You were missed! Ummmmm....not sure what to make of that comment with the hose. LOL!
So glad to hear that you had a good time and good weather.:)

Wendy - Geez - sounds like you must've been exhausted before you even started. LOL! I can't wait to start a running routine and then someday enter into a race. Speed will not be my motivational factor either. I just am in awe of those folks who run those races. I know I can do it, but I just need to bite the bullet and start training. Congrats to you for finishing, especially since the start didn't go off very well.;(

I think I'm gonna go and read a few chapters and then go and w/o. If I still have energy after all of that, I have the dreaded basement closet that is just calling my name! For now, I think I'm just gonna ignore it.

Later all

Diana:: I am not following a deliberate zigzag right now, but when I look back at the past two weeks on FitDay, I see that I am sort of staggering my calories unintentionally…I should be more strategic with my eating…the zigzag has worked for me in the past when it’s been deliberate…Right now I am just tracking calories daily and trying to keep within FitDay’s recommendations…Thanks for the info on Ms. Fit ~ I will check out her site.

Angie:: I absolutely busted a gut when I read the comment about the hose b/c, of course, I was chuckling, too, when I read that…Also cracking up re: Imax2…Sorry…I know I probably blasphemed by saying I hated it…I think you do have to like kickboxing to be into KPC or KM. It’s sort of like the step for me – if you just don’t “get it,” you’re better off spending on something you DO like…Oh and I hear you on the pack rat syndrome ~ you ain’t alone, sister! :p :D…My parents and sister are here, but we do have a whole host of extended family throughout Germany…I usually stay with members of my dad’s side of the family (my mom was from East Germany, so I don’t know her side of the family as well)…My father took me over to visit at ages 4 and 11, and from age 12 on, I have been funding my own trips whenever possible, usually every few years. Counting them up, I think I have made about 12 trips. I feel fortunate to have had those opportunities, but it still doesn't feel like enough. The goodbyes have always been difficult, and I’ve gone through most of my life feeling torn between two places I love dearly where there are people I love dearly. Last spring I obtained dual citizenship. I have no doubt my fellow CABS-lovers would enjoy it there! :D Prost! (Cheers!)

Nancy:: Glad to have ya back…sounds like you enjoyed yourselves thoroughly.

Wendy:: *lol* about your pre-race running around ~ been there last month with Pine Beach. I think I *just* made it to the starting line with a minute to spare. I still don’t know how I managed to find you at that point!…Anyway, great job! I agree, big races like that are fun. I especially like when folks get dressed up in wacky costumes. Why did I think tonight was Hibachi dinner? Enjoy the time at the ILs.

Thank you Diana for suggesting a pre-mix on KM. I couldn't help myself - had to try it. I did the cardio leg premix and, although I wouldn't say I LIKED it, it is definitely is a keeper! I don't know why it never occurred to me to try a premix before - DUH! LOL! I feel my legs right now and have a feelin' I will be feeling it tomorrow too.:) It definitely made me sweat!

Cathe - Dirty minds think alike. LOL! I had to give Nancy some crap...I'm sure she expects no less.:p
Wow - 12 times to Germany. So, I assume you speak German? How long of a flight is that? Are you planning a trip in the near future? I'd love to go....maybe someday.;-)

Hey Wendy - Was wondering what you think of Jari Love's w/o. Which one is your favorite. I was going to buy one on deepdiscount b/c they are so reasonable at $8.25 apiece and no shipping. I'm in a dangerous "I want a new workout" mood.}( ;(

Hi again,

DH and I got Jerod signed up for tackle football this morning. I think he may need new equipment as well. The football helmet alone is $75 not to mention the cleats. He wears a mens size 9 which is more expensive than the kids shoes. DH is having him try on all helmet and shoulder pads to make sure they still fit appropriately.

My bootcamp instructor called and said she was taping another class today and tomorrow and asked if I was available. I just got home from bodystep and did my leg workout at the rec ctr.:) I will be doing S&H Chest & Triceps, a coremax segment and bodystep class tomorrow.

I'm marinating some chicken breasts for dinner tonight. I hope we have some frozen veggies in the freezer???

Wendy-great job completing the race. Sounds like you had to race to start line, what a PIA. I've mentioned before, the half marathon is my favorite distance. If your planning on a run/walk strategy, this fall is perfect.

Angie-bodystep is the same routine everytime, but they come out with new ones periodically. I think the one we're doing is 67, but the website states the latest one is 69. I did better today, my second time and the live class is fun. It is definitely not as advanced as Cathe and the choreography is more athletic than dancy. I can't say that I will take the class on a regular basis (but it's free while she's filming) since I love my Cathe workouts.

Cathy-did you download the fitday software??? Is it better than the free version? I use the free version so can track whether I'm at home or at work and I'm not sure I could do that if I downloaded the software.

Nancy-You came back to us! I get it...I love washing my own car and playing with the water-squirting the kids etc. It makes me feel young. Glad you had a great time on your vacation. Your dedication shows-I've never taken weights on my vacation.
