OT -- Ladies, what kind of cookware do you have? Brands Please!

I am in need of new cookware -- but it is so expensive -- tell me what works for you and why you love it! I respect all your opinions! Thanks.

Calphalon. LOVE IT :)

For any brand that you decide, wait until there is a sale or a clearance for a new style, feature, etc. My mom bought mind fo rmy birthday one year and the only reason why I got such an extravagant present for a birthday is that she got it almost half off! And at half off, it was still rather pricey ;)

We got the entire Wolfgang Puck collection as a wedding present and it's wonderful. Expensive, but well worth the money!

Farberware pots here!!! A "family tradition" of sorts...:)

I have some Tools of the Trade stuff to as I got them as a gift but I like the Farberware better.

Have a great work out!

I spent a lot of time researching cookwear about a year ago when I needed new cookwear. I absolutely hate (no offense toasty :) ) nonstick cookwear. I learned how toxic it was after I got some birds as pets. I didn't like it much pre-bird because it always gets scratched and I don't want to have to baby it as much as you need to. Now that I have birds in the house I have to be very careful cooking with it because teflon emits fumes that will kill birds within seconds if overheated. Anyway... through my research bird safety research I found out all sorts of other nasties on teflon, like everyone in this country has it in their bloodstream. DuPont agrees with this statement but quickly follows that it is in too small amount to matter.

Sorry...I got off track. I wanted stainless steel and ended up going with Farberwear because it had glowing reviews and was within my budget. It's ok but not great. The sidewalls of the set I got are very thin, if it got dropped hard I'm pretty sure it would bend. I do have one large stainless WearEver skillet however (good luck if you want a set with skillets that are not non-stick :-( ) that I LOVE. It is much better constructed and easier to clean then my Farberwear. If I did it again I would spend more and get all WearEver stainless.

Good luck

Pam

I've been using Cuisinart's stainless steel cookware for a few years now and love it. It's good quality without the outrageous price (like All-Clad). I have some non-stick and some regular.

I bought Pampered Chef about 4 years ago. They are very pricey. I have the lifetime guarantee.I am not overly impressed with them. I have had Silver Stone that lasted longer. I accidentally scorched a stir fry in my large fry pan and it is now pitted and things want to stick to it. I really need to contact them for a replacement. The pans that I have had the longest are revere ware copper bottomed stainless. I bought the set 30 years ago. I still have a sauce pan and my children are using some of the other pieces.

Everything I have is Chantal. I like the you can take almost all the pieces from stove top to oven and not have to worry about harming the pan or pot.

I also love that it comes in colors. I have the dark green and it looks great enough to serve company.

I use Command Performance Gold. NOn-stick (I also won't use non=stick, or aluminum cookware/bakeware). I got it at HSN for a good price, IMO.

Farberware--I have a set that is 20 years old and still going strong, and my mom's set must be +50 years old at this point. Also Calaphon--my bf cooks and he loves how it heats evenly. Amazon periodically has sales on it and you can also find it in lots of outlet stores. The cookware that I drool over is Le Creuset, which is wonderful! but ridiculously expensive, even in discount stores. IMHO. :)

I have All-Clad, which I absolutely ADORE, but which is also unbelievably expensive. If you're looking to invest in cookware that will last forever and cook like a dream, All-Clad is it, but the cost can't be ignored. I think it conducts heat more evenly and quickly than anything else I've used, and they have absolutely every standard or specialty piece you can think of. It comes in a few varieties, including stainless (which is what I have) and non-stick (some pieces). Have fun shopping! :)

I have Calphalon, and most of my pieces are over 10 years old. I have been pretty happy with it, although it is a pain to clean (can't put in dishwasher). It heats nice and hot and evenly. There are other drawbacks besides the cleaning - I am finding that the finish is wearing off from some of the pots I use most frequently - I think that my mother in law put a few in the dishwasher once and that definitely damaged the pots. Also (and I would love to know if other Calphalon owners experience this) on my big 12" skillet, the handle is so heavy that it weighs the pan down and it doesn't sit evenly on my burner.
I am starting to shop around for some new cookware as well, so I would love some input from others as well.

Hi,

I have Calphalon and love it! It doesn't stick and they last.

My mom bought me some beautiful cast iron pots & pans from Chef's Catalog a few years ago. Problem is, I don't cook LOL. :p (OK sometimes I grill steaks or something, but I don't really think of that as cooking)

Anyway, they don't get used much, but they look real purdy hanging in my kitchen. :)

I have a couple of Calphalon and the finish is wearing off of them, and it happened quite quickly, and I did NOT put them in the dishwasher, and they were $$$ and I am not happy. They did get a lot of use.

Stainless is where its at, IMHO. That is what I am going to try next....I want ones with clear lids though. Having trouble finding that, with the right combination of sizes that I want.

I had the same problem with Calphalon and will never use that nonstick stuff again!

I would love to have All-Clad, but my budget will not allow it, so I went with the good old copper bottom Revereware and have no major issues with it at all. My most beloved pieces, however, are my Le Creuset Dutch Oven and my Emerilware 12" saute pan.
Stainless is the only way to go, IMO!

You kind of have to look at how much cooking you do and what type of cooking. If you're planning to really dive in, get the good stuff. If you're just browning chicken breasts or making spagetti, don't. I have pots from Calphalon (over 10 years old), Cuisinart (really like this and as it's stainless, it's okay for the dishwasher), Analon which is also nice. All-Clad is another good brand. When it comes to cookware, unfortunately, you get what you pay for (and sometimes not even then). Calphalon quality has gone way down since they've started introducing their different versions. The anodization process has been shortened in order to produce more, and as a result the pots aren't as nice. If you cook alot (or plan to) and want stuff that isn't going to burn your food, etc. you will have to pay more, but it will be worth it the long run. If you take care of them, they will last a long time. Nonstick is fine but use only hard plastic, heat-resistant utensils. Otherwise they scratch and the teflon can get in your food. Additionally, they are not good for use at high temperatures for the same reason. Stick to anodized aluminum or stainless steel. Research boxed sets - they are usually 8-10 pieces and are the most economical way to purchase these items. Another website to try is www.cooking.com. They have most top brands and offer really good prices. Happy cooking!!:) :9

Anolon Advanced with a hard anodized coating. It's not the non-stick coating, but it cooks like non-stick.

I got the 10 piece set at my bridal shower last year - LOVE IT!! It's very durable, cleans easily, heats evenly, and is oven safe (even with its rubber coated handles).
