Opinions on this bench?

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

The bar that Cathe uses is only 5' long, weighs 5 lbs and about 1" in diameter. An olympic bar is usually 7' long(although they have 6') weighs 45lbs and the end that the plates go on are bigger requiring olympic size wts. Now you can get a standard barbell in 6 or 7' that just takes regular plates like you use with the Troylite. If you are planning to get the Gold's Gym bench that we've been talking about I would recommend either a standard 7' BB or an olympic BB. The others just don't fit well.

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Thanks, Catherine. I had two bars. One my DH got for me from Play again. It's used one, came with screw type locking system. It's pretty long. I guess it must be 7'. I don't like it takes too long to change plates while I am in the middle of workout. I bought another one, kind of short. It might be 6' long, with clip type locking system. I don't know how much exactly the long bar weight. I had to check it.

I can't wait to get my bench.

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

I picked up my bench/rack this weekend and I love it!! It was a very straightforward assembly, DH put it together for me although I could have done it on my own. Used it this morning for hamstring/quad/ab work off the side of the bench (knees to chest). I am really going to get great use out of it. Thanks for the recommendation!!

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Yeah! Glad you like it! I am supposed to be able to pick mine up Wednesday. I can't wait!

ETA - WooHoo!!! I just got a notice that I can pick my bench up today!!! :)

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Liann, I can't wait for you to get it. You're going to love it. Lorie (lederr) got hers this weekend too. I wonder if anyone at walmart is scratching their head wondering why this bench is suddenly a hot item. :)

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Thanks Everyone!

Liann, Woo-Hoo, let us know when you get it home!

I am just getting ready to open my box and carry the parts downstairs. DH said he would help me put it together tonight! :7

Melissa, sooo, you are saying that the 5' bar works but just not great? I'd love to be able to use my Troy Lite & my 45# Olympic bar when possible....

THANK YOU....you all have been so helpful and ENABLING! DH thanks you too!

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

yep, i got it yesterday. i had seen an entire display of tons of them about a week ago in that exact wal mart store. when we went yesterday, there were NONE!!! so, i went to the next closest wal mart and there were two left.

here's a funny story...so, xDF and i are trying to get the thing to scan because we went to the self-service because we had only one thing and there was no line. we first asked the lady at the desk if she could use her gun to scan it and she said, "this is SELF service." mmm-kay. so, of course there were tons of barcodes and we didn't know which one to use. now, this is a pretty heavy box. so, we're moving it around, trying to scan it, it's not working. moving it again, trying to scan...you get the picture. i look over at the lady and she says, "oh, you can just punch in the barcode numbers without having to pass it through." THANKS A LOT, LADY!!! i asked her why she didn't feel the need to tell us this from the beginning. i am sure you can guess what she said (i am not $hitting you), "because it's SELF service."

anyway, i went to fitness resource and got an 80 inch standard barbell (it weighs 20 lbs.) so i could use my other weights. then, play it again for some more plates (new ones are only .50 a pound) and a 35# db. i just need some plate mates then, i think i'm all set. now, i just have to convince someone to come put it together for me.

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Yeah Lorie! Glad you got yours! Sorry for the hassle with getting it scanned. (I bet that snotty lady couldn't lift it like you did! :7) I just got all my pieces taken out of the box in the garage and carried to my basement. (My hands are freezing from all that metal being out there for two days!) Wait til you see all the pieces! DH MAY change his mind AGAIN! Ha! I plan to help him put it together tonight. I'd get started right now but don't have time. Good Luck! Glad you found one!

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Yay! Enjoy your new benches, ladies! ;-) Don't let all the parts intimidate you, the squat rack is the easiest. The bench may take a little time.

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Hi Debbie. Exactly! My 5ft bar works, but just not great! I'll try to describe my issue: when I put the bar on the squat rack, the pieces of metal that the plates butt up against end up being on the inside of the rack. So when you slide the plates on the bar, they hit the squat rack bar holder-thingy :)7). So, I have one set of spring clips on my bar that butt up against the squat rack bar holder-thingy, then I put my plates on, then another set of spring clips to hold the plates in place. Did I lose you yet?

This doesn't really leave alot of room for plates. I keep it loaded with 25lb plates on either end and so far haven't run out of room yet and I'm up to squatting 108lbs. Eventually I'll either have to invest in another set of 25lb plates or a new bar.

Or maybe both if someone wants to enable me...}( !!

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Thanks Kathy! I'll report back after it is all sitting pretty in my workout room! (Put together that is!) Melissa~Thank You. I THINK I understand! Ha! Once I figure out all the THINGIES (Ha!), I'll be ready to go. I am so happy you all enabled me even though DH wasn't so sure. I think he's coming around since he wrote and volunteered to put it togehther for me and he was glad I bought it as he knows how much I like my fitness TOYS! He DID write too that he wondered what toys Cathe would be using NEXT series! ;-) Oh goodie, goodie, I can't wait!

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

I knew I could count on you Debbie! I actually went to Target last night and they had one set left. Nice Reebok ones with rubber on the outside just like my first set. I was hoping they were on sale..;( .

I'm kicking myself though, may have to go back tonight and snag them!

Enjoy your new fitness toy! Glad DH came around!!!

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Thanks Catherine! Never in a million years did I think that I could squat 108. I've been working on it for a few weeks, just trying to tack on an extra rep or two each time. I can get to about 10 reps, then I'm spent and can barely walk the bar back to the rack and it's only like 2 steps!

Congrats to you on 107.5! :7

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

That's great!!! And I know what you mean about getting the bar back to the rack. It seems such a long ways away lol. Actually, shhhhhh don't tell anyone esp DH, I am looking at getting a power cage for squatting so I can safely dump the weight if I need to. Yesterday when I tried to do a second set of 107.5 on the second rep I failed. I have my step with 3 risers under me so I just sat down and called DH to get the wt off my back and then had to help him get it to the ground cause his back was hurting  I can not use the saftey catches on this one, just to close to the rack, if that makes sense. And as I go heavier I worry about that.

RE: 4 those of U that got the rack!

Catherine, YOU ROCK, that's an excellent idea about putting the step under you to sit down! I'm definetly going to start doing that. There have been several instances where I really didn't think I was going to make it back up!!

And your secret is safe with me about looking at a power cage..;-)
