Opinions needed on sister situation!!!!

I have a sister who is also allergic to cats. She has two. Go figure. Two of my best friends are very allergic. We run an air filter in the room they stay in during visits and it seems to help a lot with their symptoms. Here's another vote for the cat.

Ir is extremely easy to see a doctor and get a prescription for zertec for a short while to help her with her allergy problem while she stays with you. Suggest that she do it, welcome her to your home but keep your cats where they belong: in their home!

Your luck the cat would tear up furniture or make a potty mistake at the MIL's, and wouldn't you hear it then! I agree with the above poster who said, cat stays, let sis stay at MIL's!

I don't know. I'd proceed gently on this one. The college years were the last time I spent meaningful and significant time with my sister. After marriage, careers, children, and 1000 miles between us, she feels like a stranger to me twenty years later. I miss the old sister of my heart.

Especially if physical distance is possible in your future relationship, I might consider bending a bit for her. Even if we do not plan to be distant from a close one, we never know where our destiny will carry us.

True, but to be fair, I think sis is the one who needs to bend.

What's easier - her getting a shot/taking a daily pill or uprooting the routine of at least 3 other people and a cat?

Reba, good luck! I hope you'll keep us posted on the outcome.

Cathy :)

I agree that the cat should stay. I can't believe sis would ask that of you, well actually yes I do. Family members will do that. Do you think that if a friend was staying that they would ask that of you? I don't think so. I think that family needs to remember their manners too!

Personally, I think it's rather bold of your sister to ask you to give more up, like your cat, since she will be staying with you in your house. You will already be giving up privacy, change in routines, more groceries, etc.. Talking it through to what is fair and logical on both ends. For cats, I was more allergic to my old half breed Siamese than I am to my new half breed Burmese and my long hair Persian (whom are brothers) combined.
Hope it all works out and keep us posted.

There are lots of over the counter antihistamine medications for your sister! A prescription for zyrtec or allegra is pretty expensive and I personally find that claritin, alavert or even benadryl work just fine! My parents just left from a 3 week visit and dad is allergic to cats...I have 3. He did just fine with either Flonase or Nasacort allergy nose spray.

Here's another vote to keep the kitty at home.
