OMG! Started STS over. Major DOMS.

I started over with STS this week. I did the first legs w/o yesterday. I knew I was in trouble when I was doing the last sequence of ball squats and my entire body was trembling violently. I swear it's like I had never lifted a weight before. I had great results with my first round of STS, hence, the reason for a 2nd rotation so soon. My legs were so wobbly as I came down the stairs after the workout. I knew I would be in trouble today. My butt and quads are more sore than I've ever experienced. It's crazy. I didn't increase my weights from the first STS rotation so it just goes to show that those endurance workouts full of exercises you don't do routinely will whip your butt into shape. OMG. Just thought I'd share as I sit here groaning, haha!

LOL! Well thanks for posting this! Now I know what I have to look forward too! I'm finishing Meso 3 right now (doing 6 month rotation) and then going on vacation. When I come back I'm planning on starting again only doing the 3 month rotation this time. DOMS here we come! :eek:
 
I started it again last Monday and did legs on Wednesday. I am now able to walk like a 34 y/o instead of an 80 y/o! I didn't even use weights for the lunges, wall squats (just don't want to bulk up too much)....I had some mild soreness a couple of days after with the 2 upper body workouts.

I am excited to be starting the program again:D I can't believe it, but I missed doing all the kinds of push ups!
 
I'm jealous!

I just started my 2nd round of STS, doing the 6-month rotation (after completing the 3 month rotation in April). I took 1 month off of STS, doing cardio, circuits and some full body workouts, and am now in week 3 of the longer STS. So far, I definitely feel worked, but no DOMS like the first round. After my first time doing M1 legs, I couldn't walk right for several days. I actually bought Epson salt and took a bath to recover (and I hate baths). So I was prepared for the worst doing each workout twice (and with more weight than the first time). But so far, no DOMS at all. And I find that I actually miss it! Weird, huh?
 
OH the DOMS the 2nd time around!!!! I finished STS, took one recovery week then started the June 09' rotation. Yikes! I truly thought that it would be easier, Ha! I could
b-a-r-e-l-y just barely sit on the potty.:eek::D I am laughing and enjoying it the whole time 'cause my legs look Great!
 
No joke. Sitting down on the pot is the most painful experience. I wait til I can't wait no more, ha! I told DH that I was going to have that problem because I knew it would arrive the following day. He laughed in disbelief and yet, here it is. Oh my!

This thread is interesting to me. I am getting ready to go on a 2 1/2 week vacation but squeezed in STS 1, 2 and 3 this week. I thought my backside was going to fall off it was so sore! Upper body a bit, but not so much as lower. Why is that? Just to add, I finished a 3 1/2 month complete STS cycle about 3 weeks ago.
 
Did you retest your 1RMs for the 2nd round? I really don't want to. I am getting a little bulky right now moving into Meso 3 of the first round. I know I need to clean up my diet though. I just don't really want to lift heavier.
 
Me too Tracy! I was under some weird dellusion that it might be easier the second time around....boy was I wrong! :eek: I'm sweating and grunting and groaning just as much as the first time. The only difference is...I also got great results with my first round of STS so I expect to get more of the same -- that helps me keep pushing forward with it. :D
 
Lynne, I think I read a response from SNM that 1RM testing really only needs to be done once a year.

I could be way off though, as I can't quite remember where I saw that. I'll look for the thread later.
 
Great!! Thanks for the warning. I'm starting up after the 4th of July!!:p

I decided today to work the reverse bicep curls and the wrist curl exercises to get my forearm ready by then! Hope to anyway!! They hurt all the time now!
 
SAME HERE!! it is just as hard!

EVERYONE, we have a check=in for the 2nd time around STS'rs (is that correct?) on the check-in thread. come and join us. it is called the STS summer ladies.

oh, and, uh, thanks tracy, i'm doing the first legs tomorrow, now i'm really looking forward to it.:)

i'm always telling cathe how insane she is for her workouts, but i keep doin' em , so what does that say about me????:)

I started again this week. I actually skipped Meso 3. Just didn't want to go there. I decided in the middle of the week to start M1 again instead of waiting till next Monday. I did legs yesterday, shoulders/bis today and back/tris tomorrow. I did cardio Sun/Mon/Tues. I reset my 1Rs. I hardly ever get DOMS in my lower body (more a felling of tightness rather then actual DOMS pain) but I think I'll get them for sure for upper as I did the 1st time around. . We'll see tomorrow. Even tho I didn't do M3 (I only did Disc 37) I really think M1 is my fav. The last 2 days I've really enjoyed my workouts. I think I made a mistake in M2 by doing 8 weeks of it. I was getting burned out. This time I'm doing the 3 1/2 month rotation. I got great results with M1 the first time around. Hope this time too.

Well, I can't find that thread.

I imagine it wouldn't hurt to re-take your 1RMs whenever you feel it might be necessary. I don't think I'll officially sit down and do it again this year (my strength gains aren't that spectacular), but I do make changes in my workout card as I go along, so technically...I am re-doing some 1RMs that way.
 
I also remember reading somewhere that you didn't need to retest the 1RMs for a year. I'd go with that. And I have also just adjusted my weights according to the notes I made on my first time doing STS. I think as long as it's hard, you're moaning and groaning and barely getting through it, it's all good.

ok, what is the deal?? i did disc 3 yesterday , legs, and i am so sore today!!! and i rode horses this morning and thought i was gonna die!!! NOTE TO SELF! don't do legs the day before i ride.

Well, I can't find that thread.

I imagine it wouldn't hurt to re-take your 1RMs whenever you feel it might be necessary. I don't think I'll officially sit down and do it again this year (my strength gains aren't that spectacular), but I do make changes in my workout card as I go along, so technically...I am re-doing some 1RMs that way.

I have two more workouts on Meso 3 - thinking I'll start up again after recovery week. What do you think about adding 5% to all the 1 rep max numbers?
 
oh those DOMS

ITA with the original poster. I started Cathe´s June rotation last week and had a hard time walking for 3 days...worse than STS first time around :eek:
 
wouldn't 5% be a pretty big increase? i am doing what tracy is , by just using my notes from the last time and adding maybe 1# to them. some of the stuff is still really hard even with the same weight. i forgot how hard meso 1 is. i have been more sore this time than the first time. go figure. and i did read that post from snm about doing your 1rm once a year.
