OMG. Finally did my first Cardio Coach.

I finished CC4 about 20 minutes ago, my face is still red and hot and I'm exhausted. I kept hearing "are you giving your best" etc. and probably overdid it. I had real trouble reading the tiny digits on my heart rate watch but when I could the percentage was usually, like, 5-7 % too high. I now know I have to take it down a notch. But, holy cow, this is soooo what I need. Time DID fly, just like everyone said, and it was the first time I ever used my incline (I've had that treadmill for at least six years!). In a recent cc thread someone asked what you should do to occupy your eyes while doing CC (something I, too, wondered - up until tonight) and someone else replied that cc occupies you to the max so it's not like you need tv. Brother, was that ever the truth! There's always something you have to be doing or you're working up to it. Man. I'm worn out just THINKING about what I did.

Tomorrow, I weight train, but Wednesday is CC day again. I just did 4 but I also have 7 and 8. I am REALLY unfit (from a cardiovascular standpoint) and wonder what I should do: 7, 8 or a repeat performance at a more appropriate level? God, that was hard. I think I'm getting a headache. But I'm glad I FINALLY did it. Need new shoes, though. I'm just rambling so I'll stop now.

From my CC experience I think doing CC4 3 to 4 more times before you pick up 7 or 8 is the best option. With every successive time through a CC volume you see visible improvement in your fitness, and that helps with the next volume.

You could still do 7 or 8 if you are eager to experience them (I would be!). You can leave out the last challenge (which is typically optional in most CC workouts). Or you could customize by doing the warm up and proceeding directly to the longest challnge and then doing the cool down. Another option is to reduce the intensity and do the rest of the workout as an easy steady state with the music and Sean for company, once you run out of fuel.

Welcome to Cardio Coach Land. :)

Oh Yes Welcome to Cardio Coach Land!

Isn't he and his guided workouts absolutely terrific?

I have all of his CC's and I love them all. I really feel so invigorated after one of them and you must get CCPP so you can join us on CCPP day here the last Saturdays of the month. :7

I've done Vol. 4 twice and am forcing myself to stay with it for a few weeks before moving on to other volumes. Plus I just bought Cathe's Drill Max and B&G.

(GEEZ, where did all my patience go?!) :+

Ah, I'm trying to resist the tractor beam, too!;-) Of course, I've been trying to talk my DH into buying an elliptical so we could start using CC, but I don't think it's going to happen. :-(

Glad you had a great time with Coach Sean. I did a steady state run last week with my mp3 player on shuffle. Just so happens my CC mp3s are in the same folder as my music, so every now and again Coach would pop in to keep me company for 3 - 5 minutes. It was great. :)

I digress. :D

Does your HRM have an alarm on it? You could set your alarm to at least alert you to your 85% of heart rate reserve so you wouldn't go over it in the challenges. There are some Level 4 challenges in Volume 4, but maybe you want to keep it to High Level 3 until your cardio improves?

Also, do you have an option to have the HR be the only thing on your watch so it's big enough to see at a glance?

My HRM does have an alarm but, though I'm really bad with complex instructions, It sounds like the alarm only goes off if you're at the very top and at risk of heart attack. I wish I had a HRM with the percentage in HUGE digits I could actually read WHILE I'm running.

I know what you mean about the shuffle function on your iPOD. Chapters of cc keep popping up on mine, too. I know I already can't wait to jump back in. This is really exciting. I think I can finally get some serious cardio fitness because, for the first time EVER, I don't dread cardio. At last, someone's finally come up with a solution to my big problem.

My HRM goes off only when I reach past the given output levels for me, or go into the red zone. My heartrate levels are usually something like 150-170 so anytime it goes over 170, it starts beeping. I need to finish doing the fit tests so these numbers will be exactly accurate for me, but it is pretty close. I have the Polar F11, BTW. Then numbers are nice and easy to read, and the chest strap is fabric rather than hard plastic too.

This is exactly how I felt when I did my first Cardio Coach workout about 2 years ago, and I'm still totally HOOKED on it. It's pretty much the only cardio I actually enjoy doing. I'm so glad you're happy with your workout. Oh, I ditched my HRM. I go strictly by perceived exertion and I MUCH prefer it that way. ;-)

Okay, is the percentage number REAL BIG? I want the number to take up the whole face because I cannot read it when I'm moving. If it is or you (or anyone here) knows of a HRM watch that has big numbers, please share.

Just popping in to say "stick with Michele". In no time at all you'll be ditching your HRM's, too!! She's converted me!!

I forgot to tell you, Michele, that I did CCPP AUDACIOUS with NO HRM!!! I didn't even THINK to put it on!

Okay, sorry I hijacked. I'm exiting now...

That's right! Stick with me baby, I'll take you places! :7

Melissa, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your liberation from the HRM. ;-)

I feel the same way! Love Cardio Coach...everyone who is trying to resist, you know you are going to give in eventually so just do it already and join in the fun! Especially while the CC special is going on. I've never been a runner (even in my teenage years) and now I'm running like I've always done it and loving it....you feel so good after doing a CC workout!

I love CC Volume 6 where he says something like: You're going to look back on this workout as the best workout you've ever done...Right?

The first time I did CC Vol 6 was just a couple weeks ago out on trails and he was so right. It was the best workout EVER!!

April

Volume 6 is all I have, but I am dying, I mean DYING, to get more! I love when Coach Seans says, "Right?! ha (does a little laugh), Right!!"

I look forward to riding my bike now! :) :)

I was the one asking about "what to do with your eyes." Pretty amazing that you don't even think about it, isn't it? Congrats on getting through CCV4. I'm chicken and started with CCV1!
