Omega 3

I've recently purchased a couple of different kinds of Omega 3 supplements, but haven't yet added them to my regimen. The one I think I'll like better came from Nature's Sunshine (I got a distributorship through a local holistic doctor, but I've never sold the product - I only purchase it for personal use). At any rate, the reason why I think I'll like Nature's Sunshine's Omega 3 better is because it includes lemon extract, which is supposed to suppress the "fishy" aftertaste that I guess other Omega 3 supplements have to contend with.

Speaking of Omega 3's: I went to my local Wild Oats store today and was going to buy some catfish (I know...not the best source of Omega 3, but I just love catfish). They didn't have any, but they recommended a fish from Vietnam called Basa. They actually gave me a free filet to try. I came home, baked it for lunch with a spiced cornmeal coating, and it was superb! If I hadn't known it wasn't catfish, I would have sworn it was! So, if you like catfish, give Basa a try!

Yes, I take fish oil capsules three times per day. They are inexpensive and contain Omega 3s. Sometimes you can find the capsules (filled with the fish oil) two for one.

I also take one Multivitamin and one Vitamin E capule daily.

Cheers!

Hello!

I have not noticed a fishy taste with my Omega 3 capsules (thank heavens).

I am using Natural Origin Fish Oil soft gels, 100 mg.

I bought it at Wal-mart by one bet one free for 150 softgels.

I take ground flax seed (which I grind myself) regularly, which is a good whole-foods source of omega 3.

I also discovered that one of the 'weeds' in my garden area (purslane or 'pigweed') is edible, and is a good source of omega 3 fatty acids. It actually tastes good as well (I tested it on several other people, and they agree it tastes good, so it's not just me who thinks so, LOL!)

Weeds....hmmmm.....very interesting. I pulled weeds today. Maybe I should've checked them first to see if they were edible :7

It is very important to know the source of you fish oil. Make sure that it comes from only small fish. You want to make sure that it is free from heavy metals, PVS's and dioxins. Country Life is a great brand. Nature's Way Fisol is a good mercury free choice of fish oil and has the added benefit of being coated to withstand stomach acid and no after burp fish taste.

I ordered omega 3 by Twin Lab. I've used their stuff before but it was only about $8 and I have no idea if it comes form small fish. I didn't even know to look for that.

The best thing is ground flax seeds, as Kathryn mentions. If you can't be bothered with the labor of that, then purchase some very fresh 100% organic, unfiltered, cold-pressed flax oil. Barleans and Spectrum make a decent flax oil. They also tell you the date on which it was cold pressed, so choose a recent bottle. I put a couple of tablespoons of it on my vegetables and rice. I love the taste of it. Not everyone does though--my husband can't stand "ruining" his food that way so he takes it straight.
