Older DVDs -- In Your Opinion - Which Ones are Must Haves?

Cathlete
Hi,
I'm new to Cathe and I have all of the DVD's from the Body Blast, Intensity Series, and Hardcore series. I also have Body Fusion, High Step Circuit, Power Hour, and MIS. I'm thinking about getting Leaner Legs and I can only afford a few more with that. I wish I could buy them all, but I that is not "living within my means" at the moment. In your opinion, which of the older tapes are "must haves" and why. Also, please let me know what your favorite type of Cathe workout is to help understand your answers better. The more responses the better. I appreciate everyone's help in advance.

Also, what does everyone do when you're doing a rotation and you don't have a DVD or video that is required? How do you know what to substitute?

ETA: I should probably add that my goal is weight loss (mainly butt, thighs and lower abs) and muscle definition. I carry the majority of my weight in the lower body.

Well my top ones would be bootcamp and muscle endurance, and imax 2. Out of all of these imax2 is the cardio and the best for weight loss because you are in an aerobic state the whole tape. Bootcamp is more interval and has great stomachs. Muscles endurance is an all over body workout and it hits every muscle REALLY good. The abs are also fantastic. I always do Imax2 at least once a week and I alternate using the other because right now I am trying to define my muscles more. I wouldn't mind if I lost a pound or two but with the rotation I am doing I want to define more. Here is what I do Mon, Pymarid Upper Body and 30 min of cardio, Tues Imax2 and a yoga tape, Wed pymarid Lower body, 30 min of cardio,Thurs Power Max and yoga, And Fri Max Intensity Stregth and 30 min of Cardio. I also do abs about 5 days a week. That is what I did this week and tomorrow i will rest and then begin Slow and Heavy. Sun with chest and back and 30 min of cardio. As you can see I always try to get the cardio in but my goal is definition. I don't know if this seems like a lot but I usually do about an hour and a half each day. Some a little more but it works for me. I know I did't say bootcamp or ME but I will be doing Bootcamp next Fri. I really made my own rotation and trust me I have no formal experience just my gut and info from others. I hope this helps. Oh I also like Supersets and I really want Low max becasue it seem like everyone loves it. On the clips it looks good to. Do you have rythemic step or step blast because I have neither and would like an opinion about which one you or any of you who reads this prefers. Karen Hope this helps!!

Body Max is a good one to have. It is dated but it is a killer. You warm up with step then go into a step aerobics portion then you go into leg circuits....a couple minutes of step(high impact) then to leg weight work for a few cycles totaling about 20 minutes. Then you go to a quick cool down before doing endurance style upper body. It ends with traditional ab work and a stretch. The total workout is about 90 minutes.

For cardio I would consider adding Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max. Cardio Kicks is good intermediate cardio and Circuit Max has 6 cycles of aerobics (two hi/lo sections, two kickbox sections, and two step sections) interspersed with light weight work. I think the heaviest weight used in CMax is 8 pounds but it is a good cardio workout with a lot of variety.

If you want a whole series look at CTX(Cross Train Express). You work one body part a day with weight work and do about 25 to 30 minutes of cardio. Abs are included with several of the workouts and this series includes LL.

Slow and Heavy is good for when you want solid strength training but you either love this series or hate it. It takes a lot of concentration. You may want to wait on this one.

If I had to choose two workouts right now I would probably go for Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max b/c I like to have a lot of cardio options.

I would click on the DVD link on Cathe's home page and look at the previews and descriptions carefully and get what you think will best suit your goals b/c we will all have favorites for various reasons. You may also want to consider trading some workouts by other instructors if you have any for some of the older Cathe workouts you do not now own. I have several older workouts of Cathe's on video that I traded for. I one day want to get them on DVD but at least I have them for now. Have fun shopping!

Cathes DVDs sell very well on e-bay they almost sell for the actual price at Cathe's site. I am selling all my other videos and firmies, to buy more Cathe's DVDs. I also had great success selling, my non Cathe's tapes at Amazon.com.

For trading you may want to visit: VideoFitness.com

I hope this helps those that want to get rid of old Firm and other videos and dvds.

RE: Older DVDs -- In Your Opinion - Which Ones are Must...

Lorajc,

First I would either go the cardio direction and get Rhythmic Step + (contains MIC and IMax original) or Pure Strength. Second, the one above that you did not buy first. Pure Strength is a must-have.

Third, I would get CTX which includes Leaner Legs. It also does have the upper body split in it which is a great one-hour (yes it's a half hour but with warm-up and cooldown and breaks it's a good hour) workout. A very thorough upper body w-o.

I would have suggested CTX first, but since you already have the Intensities and the Body Blast series, you need some more specific all-strength or all-cardio ones to balance things out.

Slow and Heavy would be great to have for number 4. They are all good of course. Just trying to help you prioritize!

:)
